Cookie's journal to finally getting it right....

I think I have commitment issues.. I have an on again/off again/on again relationship to this site. I am back for now though

I decided last year in May to have WLS. I was going to get the LapBand. I went for my first appt w/ LapBand in June. After doing more research, I decided that I wanted to get the sleeve.

I have been trying to get approved thru the insurance since last year. I found out last Thursday that I have been approved.

The doctor office has to wait to get the official approval letter from the insurance (they have verbal approval but need the letter). Then I will be scheduled for a class and get my surgery date.

I am really excited! I am so tired of the up and down with my weight. I feel like this is the right decision for me. I am ready to finally be healthy.

Well, I got approved! My surgery is scheduled for June 12th.. I can't wait. I started my liquid diet yesterday. So far, so good. I am doing a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then a low carb supper.

Tuesday is my surgery. I am weighing in this morning at 251. I wanted to be at 245 by my surgery date, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. That is ok, though. I just want to get this over with and move onto a downward spiral.

I am not nervous yet. I suppose the morning of surgery I will be. I am excited right now, though.

I wish you the best. Sounds like you know what can work for you and have the motivation. Like so many others I am still trying to figure it out. It's very exhausting to say the least. I hope you share your progress with us. Good luck!!!

I was sleeved on the 12th. That morning I weighed in at 248.8. This morning I weighed 240.8. I have lost 8 pounds in 6 days.

The worst part of this surgery has to be the drainage tube that I have hanging out of me. I haven't been in much pain. They had me hooked up to a morphin pump in the hospital. I hardly pushed it. The afternoon after surgery, I decided I didn't want anymore so I haven't had pain meds since then. They make me nauseous so I would rather just be in a little bit of pain than to hurl.

I stayed in the hospital for 2 days. They told me I could go home the day after surgery but I was still really light headed so I opted to stay in until the next day.

I still get light headed but today has been better. I am on a full liquid diet until 6/28. Then I will move onto the mushy stage. I can't wait for that stage. I am going to blend up some meatloaf.. lol. I am not really "hungry", but I feel like I want to eat. It is the head hunger messing with me.

I keep having dreams that I am eating a sandwich or doing things that I shouldn't be doing (like going swimming), etc. I have walked only for 10 minutes at a time because I get dizzy.. I have been doing light housekeeping like dishes and laundry. For the most part, though, I am relaxing. I have even been taking naps. Today is the first day I haven't taken a nap.

Well, I will continue to update you all. Hope you are all doing great!

Congrats Kandi!! Sounds like you are doing great. I am soooo interested in your journey! I love reading success stories, and you are on your way.

I know the liquid part is no fun, so hang in there! If I had to do it, I would certainly be ready for some mushy meat loaf by then!

Continued success!! So exciting!!!

feeling better each day. I even went for a mile walk last night. Still dealing with light headedness but I think that will pass when I am able to eat.

No, I haven't posted on the WLS board.. I actually forgot about it. Hunger??? yeah, I am feeling hungry. But not the kind of hunger you would think I would feel after not eating solid food in 11 days. It is a wierd combo of feeling hungry and full. It is the head hunger that kills.

Well, starting the second week after surgery, I hit a little stall. I have finally started losing again though. I am now at 236.4. I have also progressed from the "liquid" stage of the diet to the "pureed" stage. I am so happy to finally be eating again!

I can only eat a small amount of food at a time. And I have to eat it really slow.

I read alot that refried beans are the go to choice after WLS. They have protein, are mushy and oh yeah, GOOD!..

Deb,

I don't go back to work until the 17th.. I am milking my time off I could have easily went back last week. I do think I am going to shorten the time and go back on the 12th though. I am feeling good. We went to Big Bear (mountains) and walked for a couple of miles around the lake today. It was really nice to get out of the house!

Today's weight: 234

yep, I did it. I put it off for a long time because I didn't want to see myself as a failure and not be able to do it on my own. But, in not wanting to see myself fail, I ended up gaining much more weight.. lol go figure.

I had VSG (the sleeve) on June 12th. So far, I have only lost 15 pounds, but I know it isn't coming back! The surgery was a breeze, too!

How are things with you?

Glad your knee is better, D! Hope all is well.

I am still stuck on the 15 lost. I am concentrating on upping my water today and getting in a little extra food. I hope this helps.
