She than goes on to saying that potatoes are highest on satiety index. You can also have sweet potato. She does not talk about butternut squash, so I don't know if that will be effective for me.

I looked through the PNP book last night and couldn't find anything about not using the potato? Did you find this in a book or forum?

Thanks Marika. I plan to try a little apple or sweet potato, 3 hrs. after dinner. I fit her model of sugar sensitive with a alcoholic father and a mom who overeats sweets.

Don't want beef either, having a hard time trying to get back on track. I had my shoes and purse and was on the way out the door to buy binge food but was able to talk myself out of it for now. I have been reading PNP I think my book it revised and is not the original so no mention of the apple, anyway I don't know if I trust her or not?

I don't know if I buy the whole serotonin theory as well I had week long binges that included lots of carbs and I was only getting worst not better so I totally understand what you are saying. Bottom line is I binge less if I stay LC. Allowing higher carbs is a recipe for disaster for me. I know I can handle most veggies and I am trying to have high protein/calories breakfast since past 2 days. I know I have to stay away from my trigger foods, otherwise this will not work.
I hope, Jeanie you can white knuckle this binge monster and don't let him take over your strong will. Take care

I do find that carb binges make me feel better mentally and physically after I have been strict low carb for a few weeks, problem is more often than not I snowball out of control. She does say that the potato keeps the binges at bay along with 3 protein meals and that over time if you continue to binge you decrease endorphin/serotonin receptors and so you end up binging more often as the body tries to keep the balance.

Well I have nothing to lose so I am going to try eating 2-3 protein/veggie meals as hunger dictates and 3 hrs. after dinner I will alternate with either about 1/2 of a honeycrisp apple or sweet potato. I really need to get back to regular exercise as well I know that is good for the mind and body.

Thanks for being here Marika. I am thankful you posted in my journal as I was so close to a binge and would right about now be feeling horrible.

You are welcome, Jeanie.

Exercise will help a lot. I started lifting weight yesterday in addition to my morning walk.

I won't bother with the apple or potato tonight as I think I already ate enough carbs today. I have to make this diet work while incorporating some of the foods I love or I will never stick to it. Today I had a hearty homemade beef/veggie soup, chicken, yocheese and a protein bar. I know the protein bar is not the best choice, but I just wanted something other than meat or veggie and it beats binging on junk, so I will just have to be okay with it for now.

I am having the strongest craving for pizza! I can actually smell it and find it weird as pizza is not usually something I eat or miss. It is so high cal but I may try to make one of those cheese crust thingies later.

I never made it. I ended up going shopping and getting Leslie's new Radio Remixes dvd and some groceries to make a pot of chicken soup.

I just feel so guilty knowing that eating this way is harmful to my health and yet feel powerless to stop it for any length of time. I never regret waking up in the morning feeling happy and energized knowing I didn't binge the day before, BUT always regret the day I did binge... I wish I could bottle this horrible feeling and never forget how bad it feels.

I know what you mean, Jeanie I hate the guilt that comes after binge. You will feel better again so it is not worth dwelling over it. I wish there was an easy way to fix this. We are trying so many different things and something will start working eventually. We just have to patient and celebrate everyday that we eat clean. I am feeling in control now but I know that I am only one step away from binge. What I am doing now is working at this point but I am in no danger part of my month.
Tomorrow is another day, Jeanie.

Thanks Marika. I'll just keep trying.... I have no one to talk to about this who understands, my DH just thinks it is as simple as just saying no. He sees the strict obsessive side of my eating but not the bingey behavior. He would never understand and would just think it is simple as not buying the carbage, it should be that simple but it is not and honestly I can't even explain why I do it.

I totally agree. People who never binged will not understand or can't even imagine how difficult is not to cave. I have never binged in front of my DH. He might have seen me finishing my binge but never the whole process.
I dread the day when my cravings re-surface and I pray they never will. I have made a pledge not to even have a bite of my binge foods. I know it will be painful but I will be testing my will power. There is no other way. I either cave and be miserable and continue the cycle of clean eating and binging or stop it permanently. I hope the big breakfast I am eating now will help me. Although I am a bit skeptical as I tried LR breakfast before and I still found myself binging when PMS striked. I am debating adding carbs to my breakfast as per Big Breakfast Diet book. I am going to add some butternut squash to my morning protein and see how it goes. She says in the book that serotonin levels drop in the afternoon and if you don't get your carbs early in the morning this causes one to binge later on. I think I have nothing to lose by trying to add carbs to my morning protein. Will let you know how this goes.

I don't know, but I would never eat cake or donut with breakfast. I can see eating some starchy veggies or fruit and just about it. Today I had some butternut squash with high protein meat and I am not feeling that great. I am starting to look at some carbs with interest now and it is only 3 hrs after my big breakfast So I don't know if big breakfast diet makes sense. I am not going to experiment with it anymore. Will go back to my high protein breakfast tomorrow.

How is your day going, Jeanie?
I don't know if was a coincidence but after my big breakfast I had very bingey day. Just horrible My promise not to touch my trigger foods went out of the window in a second when the cravings took over.
I think LC is just not for me. When I restrict it back-fires on me. I end up eating those carbs sooner or later. I can delay for few days but eventually I binge. I believe LC does more damage to my body than eating carbs on daily basis. Not to mention what it does to my constant TMI issues.
