Gracie's Mind & Body In Sync
Well, after all these years, I've decided to start my own journal.

It gives me the chance to refer back to some data that will be a lot easier to find.

I joined LCF in 2001 with about 30 lbs. to release! The original Atkins (red book) worked it's miracle, but once I released that weight, I didn't come back to LCF until years later when I had put 10 of those 30 lbs. back on.

I was truly under the mistaken assumption that I had my weight problem licked......well, with menopause, post menopause, and all that other good stuff, I learned that not all things remain the same.

And, actually, that turned out to be a good thing, because at my age of 72, I feel blessed that learning never stops, no matter what age. I actually find that exciting!!

Anyway, trying to condense this for brevity's sake.

In August 09, I started HHCG and lost that ever-haunting 30 lbs. again.

With all the talk about re-setting the hypothalamus, I had great expectations that once it was re-set, I could eat what I wanted and when I wanted it. NOT THE CASE! LOL

I did 5 rounds of HHCG protocol; the first 3 took off the thirty lbs., and when I went into the next stage of P3, I maintained anywhere form 3-5 lbs. Not bad, considering most folks stayed in that same range.

Then, came P4.......quite dreaded because the rules weren't as laid down as they were in P2 and P3.

In P4 we had to learn how to eat in a more healthy way.......well, even before HHCG, I was eating healthily, just too much of it all.
I found that HHCG did not help me with portion control so much as it did with discipline. Every day I felt as though I were sitting in a classroom and checking everything off and wondering what this food or that food would do to my metabolism.

Now I am 72, and I was raised on an extremely healthy diet, so I was used to all the good meats, good fats, veggies and an occasional dessert.
That sounds good to me, but after protocol, these types of basic foods started to react differently in my body.
That startled me, because I knew my body was treated well for many many years, and what the hey was I doing to it now...........

So, after the first 3 rounds, when I lost the 30 lbs., I quickly gained 10 of those lbs. back and did a 4th and 5th round to shed them.

Was I to do HHCG for the rest of my life to control 10 lbs. I don't think so!

While HHCG did open a door for me to get to where I wanted to maintain, I knew it couldn't be on a long term basis. After all, I had already been doing it since August 09. I decided that was long-term enough.

Then, I found JUDDD.......quite by accident when another LCFer and I had been talking about a 'rotation diet' I had done many years ago. This diet had you eating nothing on one day, and whatever you wanted on the next day. It worked. The 'nothing' day consisted of vitamin wafers, and they were sustaining, but I would go to bed each low day and dream of what I'd have tomorrow. Tomorrow came, and no hunger.l I wasn't using ****** at the time, and was writing all my foods down on a steno pad.

This is getting a bit too long for me to scribe anymore thoughts right now, so I will continue later.

My first laugh!!

metqa 02-12-2012 05:54 AM

Oh! You changed the Title, How Nice it is. How was yesterday? Any soothing words of wisdom?

sazzie 02-12-2012 06:08 AM

This weekend I am trying to use MUDDD because we had dh's birthday dinner at home on Friday, and yesterday was his actual birthday.
Later today, we'll be headed out to Daytona to see Jeff Durham, and surely, we'll visit some eatery along the way.

Last weekend I tried MUDDD for the first time, and it was not only very comfortable but also successful.
Trying to duplicate the pattern this week, but so far, not as successful.

Our cousin is in town for an extended stay and he used to be a chef, so going out to dinner on Friday was not an option. Boy, can this man cook!!!
With friends and family and a chef to cook our meal, we couldn't ask for more!

I haven't gotten weighed yet this morning, and not sure if I will. My UD calories last night were way out of line, and I know JUDDD is forgiving, but not that forgiving. :)

We shall see!

metqa 02-12-2012 06:27 AM

Sounds Like Fun! You should get one of those aprons that say "kiss the Cook" and give it to Chef Cousin... or would it be Cousin Chef! Have fun today and hope the food is good!

sazzie 02-14-2012 11:30 AM

Well, you gave me such a good idea that I went and ordered a full length black chef's apron and am going to have my friend embroider something like.........Chef Richard.....but want to get that French feel to it, so have to put that little hoodinky thing on the 'r'.

On the bottom, I'll have her put a little something else like 'the best' or something a bit more original.

sazzie 02-14-2012 11:41 AM

Well, it looks like I got through this past weekend with relative success.

Friday's nite UD dinner was incredibly awesome with cousin Richard (ex-chef) doing all the cooking.....and, oh what cooking!!!!

Saturday, I just felt comfortable making it another FD, so I did.

Sunday, I made a DD, and simply had a very satisfying pumpkin OMM before we left.

That surprised me as I was sure we were going to have dinner out, but it was so dang cold, we decided to come right home. It's freezing with temps in the high 20s at night here in Florida, and am sure glad I didn't get rid of my winter garb.

So, yesterday, my weight was back down and took another 1 lb with it, so enjoyed another UD.

I am so loving JUDDD as it is so flexible and I have since stopped worrying about putting on lbs. and not getting them off, and then some, within a day or two.

Eating good foods and feeling wonderful is a combo I am most happy to claim.

Yesterday's UD brought me up the same lb. I released the other day, so all is good!

Today I am having 3 HN hot dogs, sauerkraut, pumpkin OMM, and tonight I will be having the cabbage, tilapia and cheese combo, if I'm hungry; if not, then, that's good too!

metqa 02-14-2012 12:33 PM

That sounds sweet about the aprons. If you do it be sure to post a pic

Glad your Judding is going so smoothly. You make me wanna get some tilapia, but it's not fatty enough for me right now. how funny is that!

Happy Valentines Day!

sazzie 02-15-2012 07:47 AM

Yesterday turned into a MD and I am eating quite freely, and am amazed how stable my weight is.

I will enjoy an UD today, but think I'm going to try to lower calories a bit because I want to go down a few more lbs., so have to figure out a new ratio...... maybe 100 calories lower to start. Will keep my DD calories 500 or lower.

metqa 02-15-2012 08:16 AM

That's a .. Wow, I'm still impressed even though I did HCG, that you can keep a 500 cal goal. I don't think I could do that unless I had a really filling UP day before and then it would be carryover wouldn't it!

Let's see if your lower calorie goal nets you some loss. Fingers crossed!

Kissa 02-15-2012 09:17 AM

Hi Gracie, just spotted this.

Lovely to see you journaling, I must pop over to mine soon.

Indeed, Metqa, along with some treats, I do make sure I up my protein/fat and veggies on UDs.......I especially think the extra protein is sustaining me on my DDs.

HHCG........after doing 40 days each of 5 rounds of 500 calories @ day, JUDDD is a no-brainer for me.

My last two rounds were targeted for those last 10 lbs that kept creeping up by 3-4 months into P4! Got very wearisome. Also, in those last two rounds, my skin took a beating!! It was fine before them.

Cindy, so glad to see you over here.

I finally decided after all these years to stat a journal so I can pinpoint any personal data for myself, even though I do keep a diary in ******, I like to have a cross-reference.

I would have started one much earlier, but I was away from LCF for about 6 years after I released 30 lbs. I maintained that weight for about 6 years, and then whammo. Fortunately I caught it in time before the excess turned into more than 15 lbs.......thus, HHCG, and now JUDDD.

I'm feeling so much more relaxed with JUDDD and so glad I revisited it after being acquainted with it even before I was an LCF member......although by a different name.

sazzie 02-16-2012 07:20 AM

Boy, did I ever overdo the sodium yesterday, ingesting over 4k mg!!!!

Had a craving for salty crunchy again, and that always does me in, so not sure what my real weight is this morning. If I can guess, then I'll say 2 lbs. of fluid which makes my true weight the same as it was yesterday.

Today is a DD, so that's a good thing.

I'll weigh in a bit later as I'm always a bit lighter after a few cups of coffee. I'm one of those folks whose weight reduces after drinking about 4 cups of coffee in the morning.

lindaokc 02-16-2012 07:36 AM

Wow, Gracie!! Looks like you are having phenomanal success w/ JUDD! Congrat, gf!

I am starting a diet again, trying to go low calorie, but know that it will slow metabolism even more, so maybe trying JUDD? Don't know that I can do it, but hubby is trying to help me this time. He has been so successful keeping his weight low because of his diabetes. Had about 700 calories yesterday, going to try to keep it low today and then an up day tomorrow....we'll see.

Discouraged by the weight gains and trying and failing and.....well, you know, lol.

All I can do is continue to try and see what happens. :D

You and Metqa inspire me.

So good to see you here. :hugs:

sazzie 02-16-2012 07:59 AM

Linda!!!! :hugs::hugs:

I can't tell you how happy I am to have you visit my journal.

YES, YES and yet another YES to trying JUDDD!

Knowing you, I think that it is the perfect WOE for you!

What are your UD calories, Linda??? Find out what they are and make sure you eat up to them, or at least very close to them

May I suggest that you do not do two low calorie days in a row?

If you do that, then three things MAY happen:

l) You may slow your metabolism, and you certainly don't want to do that.

2) You'll go so hog wild on your UD that you risk going way above your UD calorie allotment.

3) Having more than one DD at a time can be discouraging and then you go off track completely.

I think that once you get into JUDDD the DDs become so much easier and actually, look forward to them.

Please keep visiting with me in my journal, and we will BOTH be the successes we're meant to be in the weight release arena.

lindaokc 02-16-2012 08:30 AM

Ahhh, thanks for your encouragement, Gracie. What a sweetie you are. I am only going to do the 2nd DD today because I am just starting. I think it is too soon for the metabolism to mess up, especially since I got 35 min on the elliptical this morning. Then thinking of transitioning to the UPDD regimen. I tried JUDD before but couldn't stick with it, maybe this time will be different. I certainly hope so.

How do you figure out your DD's calories? I just thought you would go as low as you could on calories on the DD's and then eat more on your up days. Is there a formula to follow?

Went to a new Dr. yesterday just so I could have a GP. At my age, I need one.:D I am heading off to a bio identical hormone replacement specialist today just because I don't know how long my current Dr (not the new one) will continue to do it. Most Dr's around here don't do it, so I have to go clear across town (about 30 mi.) to go to this one. Not happy about that and might decide it's too far if I have to go in every month. Enough about me.

I'm so glad that you are finding this the way to go and that it suits you so well. That's what we all yearn for, to find what works for us. You and Metqa have both done that and I'm hoping I'll find what works for me shortly.

I'm glad to know the DD's get easier as time goes on. It was the DD's before that did me in. Too much like the hcg days, I would imagine, lol.

Yesterday and today too, my DD's are not as low as yours. Just enough to drop the water weight, between 600-800 calories. I need to decide what my calorie limit will be on DD's..as well as up days.not sure how to do that. I got the book, not sure where it is now.

sazzie 02-16-2012 09:24 AM

HERE is the link to find your UD and DD numbers.

Scroll down and put your stats in and make sure you check lbs. and not kg; and inches instead of cm.

Now, keep in mind most folks stay in the 500 range, but there are those, including myself, that started higher and worked their way down.
You are at 700? That's still makes for a wide bridge between DD & UD calories. That's where a lot of folks start!! So that's good!

Make sure you use ****** or some other app for calorie counts.

Those 500 calorie days are so dang easy that I look forward to them now.
Of course, I do use certain staples on DDs and they easily enable me to keep my calories low.
I use the pumpkin OMM every DD.....it is my favorite staple.

I'm sure you've already seen the DD recipe thread. There are so many good recipes there.

Ask away if you have any more questions. I want you to succeed so much, my friend!!!! :hugs:

sazzie 02-16-2012 09:35 AM

Well, after my morning cups of java, I re-weighed and the result is 1.2 lbs gain from yesterday's UD. That's about my average gain with each UD.
************************************************** ***********

I'm c/p my post from Weight Management to find it easier.

I've been so crazy stable within the 1-2 lb range for a few months now, that I'm truly tempted to bring it down a notch or two.

What makes me stay in this range is the security of knowing my body is feeling comfortable, and my eating is so amazingly free.

Do I go up against my body and tell it what to do, or do I listen to it because it usually knows better than I?

Yea, I think I'll try and reduce my UD calories for at least a week, and see if my body fights it, or comes along peacefully.

DD calories will remain the same between 300-500 and an occasional fast, and I think that 100 calorie decrease on UD shouldn't make my system fight too much, eh?!

I do want to re-start my weight training, thus the reason for bringing my range down 3-5 lbs.

I'm not too sure whether I should decrease my calories by 100 or increase by 100. Seems that a true test of one week should give me my answer.

metqa 02-16-2012 10:10 AM

Gracie gives some good and easy to understand advice, Linda! ;)

Gracie, I'm sure that gain will come off with some fluid intake.

lindaokc 02-16-2012 11:17 AM

Thanks for the link, Gracie. I input my stats and it said 2200 up days and 446 down days. Pretty close, but I might take liberty with the down days until I'm used to them. Doubt I'll do as much on the up days. Tomorrow is an up day, so went out this morning and bought some chuck eye steaks. :jumpjoy: We will have them for supper tomorrow (w/ melted butter) and figure out the rest of the day in the morning. Not doing too bad today in the hunger department.
Thanks again for all your help. :hugs:

 Do I want to start a journal? Think I'll wait and see how this goes.

sazzie 02-17-2012 08:57 AM

Down 1.8 from yesterday's weight, but am still in the same range.

I'm still not sure whether I should increase my UD calories or decrease them.

If logic serves me, it would seem that I should increase them since I've been doing JUDDD since October, and if there were any metabolic healing, it would have happened by now.

If I continue with the decreased amount, then I'm not helping my metabolism, although in the past two weeks, I've had a couple of very high days. Even with my detailed account of ****** calories, diary, and whatnot, I still can't figure this baby out.

It's wonderful that I am maintaining, but dang it all, I want it lower, 5-7 lbs. lower.

Yep, frustration is the mood of the morning, but I'll get over it as I get over everything else.

lindaokc 02-18-2012 07:22 AM

Patience, grasshopper.......;)

I certainly understand the frustration. We just want to know the "WHY" so we can figure it out.

You will do great and whatever decision you make, it will be the right one. Enjoy your week end.

metqa 02-18-2012 08:25 AM

Happy Saturday,Gracie!

sazzie 02-18-2012 03:08 PM

Yep, I got over it all, and fast, too! :hyst:

Last night, we went downtown Jax for a golf appreciation night, and it was an UD, so I had 2 slices of pizza, btw, which was horrible. Feel like I wasted calories on that mush!!

So, if I had decided to decrease my UD calories, yesterday was not the day, cause I came in at over 2000 calories what with all the other stuff I had.

Anyway, was up 2.6 lbs., but the strange thing about all this is that I'm not concerned about it as I know it will come off in the next two DDs....boy, that's a new mind set that I'm still trying to grasp. Wonderful, and one of the main reasons I love JUDDD so much is that it is so forgiving.

I had close to 2000 calories yesterday, and I know that's a bit much for this body of mine, and except for that crappy pizza, I did enjoy every bite.

I'm also thinking that I should be more accepting of this weight I'm maintaining. I'll be 72 next month, and as long as I remain healthy, stay active, look good in my clothes......then, what's the big deal.

JUDDD is a WOE that allows for a gradual decrease in lbs., so I'm sure that if I relax my expectations, things will take care of themselves.

I imagine for those who have more to lose, then the reduction in weight is a lot faster.......I'm in my range, so I now proclaim to be content, and simply go with the flow.....after all, that's the promise I made to myself when I started this........I just needed to remind my own self.

Boy, this journaling seems a bit more detailed than my personal journal.

Anyone else reading this would be bored to tears, so I'm grateful that I have this little space to just type away and air my thoughts.

sazzie 02-20-2012 08:36 AM

Monday and today is a DD.

Yesterday's UD netted me a .2 gain and was very pleased that it wasn't more than that.

Had a very satisfying UD yesterday with a bit more protein than usual (about 90 g.) and it left me feeling content without that usual craving I have in the evenings.

Each night I've been having hot almond milk with Nesquick and it puts me into the most sweet sleep.

Will be having my staple pumpkin OMM later on today about 3 ish and then some fresh brussels sprouts, 2 HN hot dogs and some Laughing Cow.
I really am not that fond of the cabbage/chicken/LC combo, but since I have the sprouts, will be using them.

I also have some fresh Chinese cabbage from my co-op I'll be using Wednesday.

We have a weekly drop-off of fresh organic veggies from various farms in the area.
I don't have too much experience with turnips, but will learn.

metqa 02-20-2012 08:40 AM

Hey is your nesquick the one with the bunny on the front? is it liquid or powder? is it regular or sugar Free? I just found this powder chocolate milk with a brown bunny on the front, and it says it's sugar free. I havn't tried it yet but I was gonna heat up some milk and mix it in for hot cocoa, cheaper than Swiss Miss I figured.

Chunk those turnips into a stew, or slice them into rounds and make a gratin with them or slice them into fries and sprinkle them with nutmeg, salt, pepper and parmesan and oven fry them!

sazzie 02-20-2012 08:58 AM

Yep, bunny in the front; sugar free; powder; 35 calories.

I've tried Swiss Miss and for 10 more calories, I prefer Nesquick.

I don't like powder in envelopes for some reason, and is another reason I like the Nesquick.

sazzie 02-20-2012 08:59 AM

Oh, thank you for the turnip recipe......that sure does sound good!!!

Think I'm going to slice into rounds, and bake them w/seasonings.

I had sweet potatoes done like that yesterday!!!
