Gosh, it's so beautiful here today in Florida......no heat, no a/c.....just sweet breezy air coming through the windows.

Weight is steady as she goes, but I am starting to see a decrease in numbers.
Because I'm not in any hurry, I'm just crusin' along.

This Sunday I will have been on this planet for 72 years and I have to say that I can't believe it.

Where did the time go? What have I accomplished? Where am I going?

All these questions to ponder, and yet, when all is said and done, the time will continue as it has; my accomplishments were many, and only the Lord knows where I am going! I sure don't!

Getting back to earth now. Haven't had a MD is quite a long while, so will be making Thursday a MD, Friday an UD, Sat a DD (hopefully) and Sunday will be another UD.......which will bring me right back to rotation on Monday.

I wanted to make sure I got that down in black and white so I don't forget. I'm finding that my pc audio reminders are a lot more effective than my note writing in helping me remember all those little tidbits I must do.

I have reminder notes all over my desk, including a shopping list that I forgot to take to the store the other day. Now, that shopping list is in my handbag, and so off I go..............

I have your journal bookmarked and just don't have time to read it through. So I am just jumping right in!!! Today is Ken's 16th birthday!! I made the most gorgeous cake ever for tonight. I had to take pics. But my diet is shot to hell LOL. Oh well, that is why we always have tomorrow right?

Happy early Birthday!! March is a fabulous month for a birthday. We have 3 kids with March birthdays

Hope your week is a great one. We don't want our Gracie asleep on the couch for her special day.

Dawn!!!!

So good seeing you here!!

This past week was a good one with not too much going on!

Feeling very relaxed almost to the point of laziness, yet being active with the gym and bowling.

I was given an IPod that I want to put some tunes on so I can start walking again. I used to power walk a few years back, but hurt my foot really bad, so haven't done it at all. I miss it, and want to try it again, but I'll be careful not to get my speed up too much. Don't want that foot pain again.

I have to have music when I walk.

Vincent will be here on Sunday to drop Averie off for the night while he and Daddy go golfing. That will give me some one on one time with the little chipmunk, as I call her.

I really wanted to join the Zumba class at the gym, but the hours are not compatible with mine. They have a class from 5:30 to 6:15pm and that's a bit late for me. I do go to the gym in the afternoons but it would be too much to weight train then to Zumba.....

My workouts are really getting tough now. I'm pressing 164 lbs on the legs and calf raises.
144 on the row, and that's a real challenge....still only at 64 and 46 on the arms; tris and bis respectively. My upper body is weak, but most women are weaker on the top.

I'm going to start with some wall-push ups at home or whenever I think of them to try and get my arms stronger.

I really want to use my Total Gym on intermittent days, but I know better than to work those same muscles two consecutive days.

My weight is holding steady with a hint of a downward trend, and that makes me feel quite happy as I've increased my DD calories to about 650-700 mostly because of my workouts.

Top range is anywhere from 1600-1800, with some days being lower. although tonight it will probably exceed that as we're having dinner with friends.

Haven't meditated in a number of weeks now, and miss it so will be doing a session tomorrow. Today will be too busy.

It is tomorrow, right? Or did I miss it totally? That could have happened. DH's aunt has been to a specialist and we are dealing with her stuff right now. And my stepmom is in the hospital for they don't know what yet. DH"s aunt has had her gall stones removed, her gallbladder out, a hysterectomy and STILL has the same problems that started all this a year ago she is no better, actually worse. She is having "pressure" and they are now investigating the bladder so see if that is the problem. DH is feeling pressure because he is her caregiver now He has been shuttling her around to every appointment, having to deal with her in the ER. It has been draining. So I can see how I have missed somethings around here.

Have a great weekend with your little chipmunk. Enjoy time with the grandkids. You amaze me with your dedication to exercise. Ever since I started the hcg I keep forgetting to get back to it. I have get back to it...and soon. hcg has spoiled me rotten.

Hey Gracie!!!

Hey Dawn, I hear you on the difficulty of getting back to exercise. I have it on my yahoo calendar, and I'm embarrased at how often I used to do it and I'm not doing anything now. I need to get back to it. I wanna do the slow burn but I can't make myself set aside the 15 min. I don't wanna be wiped out in the middle of the day!

Dawn

Girl, you have had a stress-filled year, to be sure. It will all come together in the right time......stay strong, as I know you are!

Metqa,

Believe it or not, Slow Burn doesn't throw me for a loop for the remainder of the day. It's only for about a half hour to an hour afterwards that I need to recover, and after that, my energy level is heightened.

I'm at a point now that if I take a protein drink (Pure Protein from Wal-Mart) before I start driving home that by the time I get home, I'm back to normal. It only takes me about 12 minutes from the gym.

I've been back a short while, and I can already see definition in my bis.
Of course, my body is holding a lot of muscle memory and evidently, it was craving these heavy weights.

I'd much rather do 15-20 minutes of very intensive work then be at the gym for an hour or more doing the conventional 12-15 reps of each muscle group.

My S/B trainer once told me that S/B achieves about 3x as much as conventional training, and I believe him.

I don't know if you're going to have a spotter when you start training, but I would highly recommend that you do. Good form is crucial along with the appropriate weight to start out!

If I remember correctly, I started out with 40 lbs. on the leg press in March '09, and each time I went I increased it 4 lbs (2 on each side). My trainer was with me at all times, though.

Today he doesn't have to be with me, but I do notice him watching me from time to time, and I feel so secure in the knowledge that he is monitoring me.

I babysat for my grandbabies all day, and that tired me more than my workout!
It's the constant eye on all three of them especially the baby who is just starting to walk.......OY OY OY...........

thnks for that detail Gracie. I've no gym membership so I'll be doing it alone. cant get BF to go along with the idea. I only have a few home weights, so my own body weight will be my goal to overcome I guess. I got some adjustable ankle weights and a 10# vest adn 1,2,3,5,8# hand weights. if i ever start and get too strong for those ( pffftt) I'd consider adjustable hand weight, but not in the budget now.

sorry my typing is truncated, my nails are wet. I rarely pain my nails and always ruin them soon after anywya so trying to be careful.

Happy, happy Birthday, sweet friend.
Hoping your day will be wonderful!!

I'm so glad things are going well for you. Great idea to start the walking. Hubby uses his MP3 player to download talking books on and listens to them while he walks the treadmill at the gym. It's going to be awhile before he goes again since he is having rotator cuff surgery tomorrow. He won't feel like doing much and will be in a sling for a month or more.

Watching 3 grandchildren at once? Yikes!! While fun, I'm sure it was exhausting. They grow so quickly too, darn it.

I also would like to start the slow burn....I'm such a sissy.

Metqa, your typing is just fine!
You can definitely use any weights to do slow burn......just lift slowly to a count of 10 for concentric, and 10 seconds for eccentric.

I sometimes use isometric on the concentric for about 2-5 seconds.

You can also do isolated isometrics. For your arms, simply clasp your hands behind your back, make a muscle and hold for as long as you can.......15-20 seconds. Ya know.......the Greer style! It does work!!!

Then, you can adjust the height of your arms behind your back and get all those fibers active.

Hi Dawn, Metqa and Kissa
Linda, it was a mixed day Sunday. We get a weekly fresh veggie delivery and Peter decided he wanted to cook the beets......early in the morning........well, I think I have an allergy to them because as he was cooking them, I started to feel nauseous. Never did like them......the one food on earth! Well, it brought on a headache and I had it all day.
I've always hated, and I know that's a strong term, but have never been able to tolerate the smell of beets! Oh, and lamb, too!

Oh dear, I know you'll be busy with hubby! I had both shoulders done, as you know, and it was painful!!!!!
Make sure he does the therapy, no matter how much it hurts! If I hadn't worked through the pain, I would not have had a complete recovery. It was tough......and, btw, that's how I gained to 163........because the ortho guy told me to do NOTHING, and so I did nothing! For 6 months!!!!! My instincts told me better, but authority always was a winner throughout my life.

I was looking through some old threads and came across this:

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/hc...2010-a-50.html

Post #1493. I can hardly remember that was me!! I liked looking through the old thread because of all the familiar names. What a trip down memory lane. Maybe a few posts would spark a smile in you too. Another trip down memory lane for me this year---we are going back to Lake Lure, NC where those pictures were taken. We have a weekend scheduled there to meet up with my SIL from NJ. Should be fun!! Cannot wait to look like that once again too!!! Have a great Tuesday, Gracie!!

Nice to "see" you here too Linda!!

Gracie, I'm laughing that you mentiond the arm thing because I've been trying that for over a year. i can claps my hands at my butt but could not lift them up at all. I kept trying it and now I can lift my clasped hands about 6 inches away from my butt. I'm so happy.

I'll use my simple weights and do what I can. i think even if I don't increase the weight quickly I'll get some benefit if I do ANYTHING. emphasis on anything, I'm not there yet! I'm still doing pretty much nothing, but I'm thinking about it!

Dawn, I remember those pictures as if it were yesterday. You were so up in the stars about attaining your goal!

I know you're really having a hard time of it this go-round. Concentrate on getting this round done, getting to some kind of maintenance, then hop on over to JUDDD.

I'm going to revisit that thread you posted and I'll let you know if I find anything significant.

If you can clasp 6 inches above your butt, that's great. Don't worry about getting all 3 stages in......do what you can......cause a little can go a long way.
Oh, and Metqa, you don't have to increase weight quickly if you don't want to.......like I said above, a little can go a long way.
Funny thing is when you start.....well, I know you know this, cause you've been there...........you don't want to stop.........

Exercise can be addictive, but I have to train myself constantly for that addiction to set in..........make sense?!

Imagine that!!!! Trying to form an addiction to something!!!!

Well for the first time since I've started JUDDD 5 months ago, I am so full on an UD and don't have all my calories in me!!

I've only had a little under 1200 calories, and I know I can't fit in another one.

I've even tried drinking some cappuccino with sweetened butter pecan creamer, and I put extra in to increase calories!

I am stumped!!

This has never happened before, and I'm truly at a loss as to what to do!!!

I could gag down a few tbsps of coconut oil or peanut butter, but even the thought makes me burp! I've always believed that listening to my body was paramount, so listening, I am.

I sure hope today's calorie numbers don't sabotage my efforts for tomorrow's DD.

This should be interesting!!

Had a gain of 1.2 after yesterday's UD. I only had about 1200 calories......that's a big NO-NO!!

It's still in my range of .04-1.4 fluctuations, but I'd better well make sure that tomorrow, I get all my UD calories in.

The scale should prove interesting tomorrow.........but, isn't that what most of us say almost every day?!?

Anna, so glad you finally made it over here!

Ah, a workout, eh?! Got mine in today and I kicked my butt! Worked extra hard today and even added some conventional weight training techniques in addition to my regulars.

Did a full body stretch afterwards, and it felt so good........

Shirl, so happy you stopped lurking and posted!

Ya know, I have no objection to the 'flower talk' in my journal if you choose!

I was going to journalize earlier today, but didn't want to put off getting to the gym. I love Sundays over there.........usually not a soul there, but other folks must feel the same way as I, cause there were about 15 total.

No waiting for the machines, and I went through them like wildfire.

Now, for some reason, instead of feeling energized, I'm feeling too pooped to pop.

Could be that it is a DD, but I had 40 grams of protein immediately afterwards.

Gracie, I'm hoping some of your motivation for exercise will rub off on me. I really need to get fit! I had knee replacement surgery in December of 2008 and it's still hard for me to climb stairs or inclines. I think it's a GOOD thing that we live in a multi-level home and I need to do the stairs a lot! I belonged to a fitness center for a while after the surgery, but then I thought I could exercise just as much at home. And I could if I'd just get off my duff and do it!!!

Ya know, Shirl, I have always been a self-motivator, but I'm finding that in these last few years, I can't say that as much.

I have gym equipment here on my lanai.......Total Gym; Sprint Master;
Easy Shaper; exercise bands, 5 varying hand weights. I also have a couple of other handy dandys, and oh, yes, the DVDs........and the list goes on.

Going to the gym gives me a sense of security in knowing the trainer is watching me for the most part, and I like the discipline. I was raised in a girls Catholic school, so it is innate with me. Funny, I never resented it like most gals I know!
Anyway, back on to exercise!!

It was Linda (OKC) who got me re-motivated after being away from the gym for three months.

We have helped each other throughout the years to stay motivated, and when one of us is down, we pick up the other.......well, she picked me up and now it's my turn to pick her up again. She's nursing her husband right now who had rotator cuff surgery, so it will be awhile.

Anyway, I'm blabbing, but I have to credit accountability with getting me back to my program. Coming to LCF, reading the exercise thread has helped me a great deal.
I don't do cardio, and some of those gals really work it, but I'm not there nor do I think I ever will be.

I couldn't agree more with you that it is a good thing you live in a multi-level home. I miss that set-up very much, and have mentioned it to Peter a number of times.......
I remember when I was raising my children, we had 3 flights of stairs......I used to carry a hamper load of clothes down to the basement for washing each day..........wow........just thinking about it........I stayed in good shape for a lot of years, and now I know why!

Today, in retirement, I feel as though I have to look for physical activity and in reality, we do!

I have osteopenia and my primary reason for going to the gym is so that it does not develop into osteoporosis.

So, both you and I have a primary health issue that can be addressed by going to the gym....body beautiful is a close second, however!

I would be more than happy to cheer you on, Shirl!

Gracie, thanks for your thoughtful response.

I guess what I meant to say is that I'm hoping to get motivated by seeing what a great role model you are! My DH is a wonderful role model in that he exercises hard every morning...sit-ups, push-ups...real strenuous stuff...and never has belonged to a gym. Also, while we are both "retired," he continues to work part-time, often 3-4 days a week as a bailiff in the courthouse. He loves the work in that it is interesting as are the people he works with.

Now I really understand a lot more what a serious commitment you have to exercise, and I applaud you!!!

I used to belong to a place called "Contours" where they offered circuit training...much like Curves, but machines were different. I really liked the fact that it was so convenient...could even ride my bike there, which was doubly helpful...and it was a fast way to exercise all the muscle groups, both aerobically and with weights. Really felt bad that place closed and I don't think there are any Curves in business here anymore either.

Oh well, enough with my excuses...they aren't getting me where I want to go!!!

I keep meaning to post in my journal on a daily basis but lately haven't been.

In order to keep my rotation going, I've been going to dinner every other Friday with our friends. It's worked out very nicely since I've changed the rotation! I see some of these folks during the week, so it's all good.

My bike saga:

When I was a young gal growing up, there was a blue bike (that came from I don't know where) in our basement and I used to beg my big brother to fix it for me so I can have a bike like all the other kids.

Well, I've thought that throughout the years, that bike never got fixed because my brother was in cahoots with Dad to NOT fix it because they were worried I would get hurt.....natural...but much much too protective.

Anyway, fast forward to a few years ago, I rode a beach bike and while it was OK, it didn't give me the 'ummph' I thought I should get from riding. It was a 24" bike. Basically, a kids' bike.

One day, last year, while riding with neighbors, we came to an intersection, and I had to make a decision whether to crash into a parked car or fall. I opted to fall.

Haven't been on a bike since and finally, I gave it away to a cousin who was thrilled to have it.

It didn't curb my desire to ride though, so yesterday morning, I decided to try yet another bike, this time a 26" adult bike.

Dh and I went over about 7 am to Walmart and purchased it

The minute I got on this bike in the Walmart parking lot, I said 'YES' this is what it's supposed to feel like.

I am not sure what made the experience better with this bike; the difference between the 24" and the 26"; the Schwinn brand???

What prompted me to get this particular bike is one of my neighbors had just purchased one and my other neighbor and I were admiring it. It is a Schwinn beach bike and the price was right at $149!

She told me there were two left, she bought the one, and dh and I drove over there and we bought the other.

If I seem overly excited about something so many others have done for years, it's because I am.

Because my dad and brother were afraid for me, it cemented a fear within myself.

I wanted so badly to overcome this fear, and while it's not entirely gone, it's well on its way out! I wanted to enjoy riding, and now, at the age of 72, I can!!!!

Congratulations!!! I loved riding my bike. I don't ride now because I can't find a bike that fits my size that's not a kids bike and is affordable for me, and my city is not very bike friendly despite the newly painted "bikelanes" that they painted on the road ( by bike lane they mean the narrow strip right next to the curb , not a full lane big enough for both car and bike.)

I hope you enjoy more bike riding, it's so freeing to be able to go places without a car and enjoy the sunshine and the wind, ... and sometimes the rain as well!!!

Metqa,

Oh no, I know what you mean by that narrow strip! I've seen them.

Fortunately, Palm Coast is a walk and bike friendly city and the paths are beautiful here.
I intend to fully enjoy my new bike! Oooh, I love, just love walking in the rain, but I think I'll keep my bike away when it rains!
