Yes, it is a tradeoff. Thanks..but most of the weight was through low carb LOL. Well when I think about it, I guess I lost almost a pound a day...but I doubt it'll keep going that way. Really Deb, I'd eaten pretty bad some days so the gain happened quickly. Now that I'm eating healthier, my body is going back to what it knows..hopefully the 160's again. Ugh, I really miss it now although I was complaining about being 'stuck' there earlier this year LOL. Isn't that how life goes?

Down 1.8lbs, I'm so happy the weight is going down hopefully it will continue. The kale drink is doing wonders, I have so much more energy, my appetite is shrinking and I'm getting in my fruits and veggies like I'd wanted to begin doing again daily. I exercised today as well and it felt so good to sweat...I kept telling myself I'm sweating some of this fat off!!

Hey Shari, happy to see such positive posts over here. For that drink, do you have a "recipe" you follow, per se, or do you just kinda throw the items in the blender?

Thanks in advance!

Happy Friday Eve, lady!

Well, Happy Friday...a week and a day late!! I kinda follow a recipe but I add more of the stuff I like vs. what I don't like now. I'm kinda blending a recipe from G and from my ex who is drinking "mean green" drink mix. I'll post about it below.

Thanks Deb!! You too (a week later haha).

I didn't mean to stay away so long. I pretty much had a very nice weekend as I attended a barbeque hosted by one of "the moms" for August and September birthdays. Needless to say, I pigged away and threw in the towel after that. I woke up Tuesday feeling the extra bloat so did a low carb day. I watched a movie my ex told me about as I'd shared with him that I was drinking a kale drink as a meal replacement. It's called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It's a documentary that talks about the correlation between eating less fruits, veggies and health ailments that can occur as a result of this. He drank what is called "mean green" to include kale, celery, ginger root, cucumber, apples, 1/2 lemon and his metabolic levels greatly improved plus his skin disease cleared and he no longer had to take steroids. It was great to watch. I decided to do a 3-day fast to cleanse my system. I said I'd go 7 days if I could make it but today is day 3...I don't know (although he said the 3rd day is the hardest..he went for 90 days, I believe, drinking only the "mean green" and water and lost a tremendous amount of weight...not what I can do but what a great detox). Since Wednesday when I started the fast I've lost a little over 6lbs and feel so much better physically, of course it's the mental aspect of wanting to eat other food that is getting to me. I've been wanting to get back to more fruit + veggies and when I hit an all time high (since 2009) of 190.2 in late August, I knew I needed to start making changes. I'm 177.6 today, still not at my settled weight of 168 but working my way down.

It's taken me 2 hours just to type this....between interruptions so gotta go. I'll try to visit other journals over the weekend. Hope everyone have a great weekend!

Down another 2.6 lbs, 175 even...so happy it's moving downward. I'm on the fence about breaking the fast today. It's been 3 days which is the minimum suggested amount of days. One thing I want to do is to continue to drink the veggies and fruits daily. This morning after exercising, I made another drink from the program the guy, Joe Cross, who documented the film suggests. It's 1/4 watermelon, lemon (he suggests lime but I prefer lemon), 2 handfuls of blueberries and 6-8 kale leaves. At first I was not thinking I'd like the addition of kale with watermelon but it's very, very good..like a dessert. OH I forgot to add that I also add a bit of Truvia to sweeten the mixes.

This is what he suggests for when you start eating other food:

Think about protein in a new way.
The typical American plate is 50% animal protein, 25% overcooked vegetable and 25% starch like white potatoes. Recreate your plate by shifting to 50% plant foods like vegetables or some fruit, 25% lean protein and 25% whole grain.

I'll see how I feel later today, right now I'm satisfied. Have a good day all.

Thanks Deb. Every once in awhile, I have some kind of mental push that allows me to do fasts...it's usually short lived though.

I broke my all juice fast on Saturday by having two sweet potatoes for dinner; had the same yesterday. I added a splash of olive oil, cinnamon and truvia and was in heaven. I want to get more into the habit of appreciating/eating more plant based food with smaller portions of meat. I was totally neglecting the need for veggies which is not very healthy plus I needed a serious detox after eating all over the place during the summer. I'll see if I can do it as I've never totally given up eating a lot of meat every day as a lifestyle, only way to know is to try!

I didn't weigh yesterday but did today and I am down 1.8lbs to 173.2. I feel sooo much lighter, cleaner and my clothes are fitting like they should again LOL. I'm going to try spaghetti squash tonight....it's something I've wanted to try but never have. Also I've been working out consistently, I need the stress reliever. G and I ran the steps at a college's stadium and he challenged me with strength training workouts...I was like puddy afterward But looking at him kept me motivated

Quick post...doing very well on the veggie/fruit drink. I'm down to 170 even!! And that's with TOM present so hopefully I can see the 160's again very soon. I've been eating buttercorn squash, fresh green beans and had meat once-chicken breast, roasted. I don't even want meat as much as before but I still get a taste for it every once in a while which is what I was aiming for. I feel so much better and with exercise, wonderful afterwards. Work and school with the boys has kept me busy but I'll try to come back later on today to visit other journals and see how everyone is doing. Happy Friday eve!

Thanks Deb, yes I feel a lot better and it's all because I'm now eating healthier every day and exercising 4-5 days/week...who knew that could work? The reason juicing is better for me is because it's all together instead of me picking this for breakfast, that for lunch and dinner and so on. I have my one container of mixture and sip on it throughout the day. And how can I complain about eating sweet potato, squash, nuts, etc. too?

Wow you are doing fantastic! I left you a message in my journal about the drink. I love that documentary! He is such a straightforward dude - he just goes up to people and tells them they are fat and need to juice! I guess people are cool with it because he was obese too. I would love to try juicing on my DDs. I'm skeered to try it for more than a couple days - do you get obsessively hungry?

Great! If for no other reason, it reiterates how much of what we eat really, really impact our health. My ex, who could not have stable glucose readings is now having perfect readings between 70-100! Very impressive to me

Well I tweak mine so that it's more tasty to me but with the same ingredients. His 'mean green' consists of

1 cucumber
4 celery stalks
2 apples (I use Granny Smith like in his documentary)
6-8 kale leaves (I buy a bag of kale already cut and use a couple of handfuls)
1/2 lemon
1 tsp ginger (I use ginger root and cut pieces off)

My adjustments:
Since I'm not a big fan of celery, I just break off a piece of stalk instead
I only use 1/2 cucumber/day
add a bit of Truvia
other tweaks I've noted above..also after making it a couple of times you'll know what you want more of and less of...

I also drink in the morning his "Go Red" drink made with

1/4 watermelon
1/2 lemon
kale (2-3 handfuls)
bluberries (couple handfuls)

Use google to find more information I don't think I can post a link to it...

I love the documentary. It was very inspiring. I almost cried at the end when I saw how much weight Phil had lost. He looks so healthy. OMG, when his brother had that heart attack, it scared me straight!

My husband is struggling with his diabetes. I may have him try juicing for awhile since he wants to go Vegan. Maybe this will help him make the transitions.

I'm buying a juicer tomorrow

Thanks for the recipes! So you just use a blender - I don't want to invest in a high priced juicer until I'm sure I will like the drinks. They sound good!

Hi everyone!

Meek~ yes, I will drink a 'red' drink in the morning/afternoon and the 'mean green' throughout the day. If I feel like I want to eat something, I've had butternut squash, fresh green beans, sweet potato, spinach (fresh), rotisserie chicken breast and nuts. Oh I definitely believe in it since I'm doing it and I can witness how it has drastically improved my ex's health. Plus G drinks his own version and he looks better physically and says he feel better too. It provides so much energy and you don't have that 'heavy' feeling in the gut LOL, wow!

Gracie~Yup, blender works fine for me. The juicer will just keep the 'pulp' of the food from the drink but that part doesn't bother me. A juicer is just not in my budget right now either but I do want to invest in one in the future, maybe it can be a Christmas gift. Happy Friday to you too!!

Well I did not hit the 160's as I'd hoped. I got into a large can of nuts yesterday and even though I wasn't hungry, I ate way too many. So I'm up 1.8lbs to 171.8. Nuts are recommended but not as many as I ate
