Thank you Shari Well we had a strange weekend, and it was hard. She wanted me to go on home Saturday night ( to her house) she said she would be fine. However, the next morning I go in to find her in tears and totally confused.

She had a bad reaction to the morphine and in the night tried to rip off her cast piece by piece on her arm. She couldn't remember where she was or what was happening. So the doctors have taken her off morphine, and are using other meds. By the time I headed to my house yesterday, she still was not totally out of it.

One of my other sisters was with her over night, and she said Mom was much better, but was trying to get up by herself to go to the bathroom every hour last night. Found out it was a urinary tract infection.. so they have her on antibiotics. Today she is better.

I will head back there tomorrow to help get her into some kind of rehab for a week or two. Then we help her get home where the 5 of us sisters will take turns getting her back to health!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Prayers continue that she has a speedy recovery!!!!! She's blessed to have such wonderful children.

You must be exhausted? Have you all considered having her move in with one of you?

When my mom fell back in Feb. the nurses told me that UTI's and the anitbiotics that go with them often cause disorientation in older patients. My my was scaring us w. memory and focus issues and she is much better now. I hope you find a good facility to help your mom recover. I went through a similar situation this Spring w. my mom and learned a LOT!! She's home on her own (morning caregiver daily, lifealert necklace) but it has been quite a rough stretch. Hope she recovers quickly and you let your sisters share the load. The lion's share of my mom's care fell to me and that was a rough patch to be sure!!

OH Julie, that is right! I sure would feel overwhelmed if I had to do this alone. My heart sure goes out to you!.. Thank god your Mom recovered and is doing well now. I am hoping for the same for mine. The confusion was very scary!

My thoughts went to my Dad during that time, and he was the same way. I just can't lose another parent this soon!. Today she thinks she can just get up and go, so it sounds like her pain meds have finally worn off. Thank the lord!..

Well I got some rest last night, but Mom's first night in the Rehab/nursing home did not go as well. She couldn't get anyone to respond to her nurse call button and had to go to the bathroom badly. They don't have a walker in here, so she couldnt do anything. Ugh. Oh well, I am here now, and today is a new day.

Deb so glad you are able to be there with your mom today. I hope they can work out the situation with her need of a walker as well. Make every minute with your mom count as I know you will.

Hang in there Deb. Rehab homes are very frustrating and the poor communication, short staffed, slow moving places make me want to run screaming from the building sometimes. But, eventually, they do seem to work out the kinks. Be aggressive. Ask lots of questions, request equipment you think would help (The PT and OT were the most helpful) and encourage your mom to be the squeaky wheel. That's the only way the staff would come when my mom needed help. She developed bed sores and rashes from being left in the bed for too long. It was a setback to be sure.

It sounds like your mom is motivated and strong. My mom was/is lazy and will do the bare minimum to get by. I hope your mom is able to get up on her own and move around. That'll help a lot!!

Thanks ladies This is a daily adventure for sure. She really wants out of here, but she has to learn first how to do it. She HATES being in this situation where she can't do things for herself. AT least her attitude is good about getting well. The complicating factor in all this is her arm cast that goes up over her elbow. She can't use her left arm at all, and trying to do things one handed and one legged is not easy... ugh.
