Oh, THANK YOU! Those little ninja squirrells swarmed the joint and cleared out all the high carb junk vexxing me. I AM FREE!!!

How is everyone? I've been crappy, but seems silly to complain about something that's not a real problem. (Oh, woe is me! I eat too much and can't stop eating sugar! I'm depressed even though I am healthy and loved and safe, wah wah wah... what a bunch of BS. WAKE UP, ANG!) so, chucking it behind me and starting anew. Been sewing and working on stuff and managing my family and doing fun stuff and trying to stay off the internet.

you guys are the best!

Love you Ladies! Nah, I hit rock bottom a few days ago. Seriously, ROCK BOTTOM. I looked in the morror and just burst into tears. My face had lost all its beauty, puffy and blotchy and what the hell? My gut was spilling over my jeans, my sweater was too tight, I was just a depressed hideous mess. I felt awful. I couldn't stop eating bad stuff. It made me feel worse and made me eat even more. Finally I felt so sick and disgusting I just stopped everything. Seriously, rock bottom. I've been clean and sober for three days now, and the junk is still working itself out of my system, but I'm feeling better. No Easter treats for me. No sweets. I'm done. I give up.

But, on the bright side, I looked through the blog Tiggy recently mentioned on her journal-- and it spoke to me. Really resonated with me, and lightbulbs were popping back on all over this dusty fat warehouse. I still need to read more of his articles, but I already know I love him, as much of what he says has been proven to me over the years with my own experiences. It's one more nudge in the right direction, I think.

Ang you gotta hit rock bottom to move up, you are a self saboteur like myself we were talking about this on the badger thread, as soon as you start having success you F yourself up, maybe fear of failure, maybe you feel not worth it? I don't know but I did it for years and so many of us do, it was easier to cave then to deal with success, find what you need to do it, you know how to be successful it is beating your mind!

Hi Ang! Thanks for stopping by my journal. I did save his life and it hit me when I was in the shower that night. I started crying and realized if I hadn't gone over there he would most likely have just died on the floor. Scary, crazy week.

Happy Easter!

aaaawwww, thanks all! (Big hug Laura! HERO!)

I've decided to eat more fat and less protein. All my low carbing experiences were essentially higher fat ratio, but still I ate loads of protein. After exploring Attia's blog and revisiting Gary Taubes ( ) this time around I'm going to pay more attention to eating the fat and staying in ketosis-- versus focusing on the LC of just meats. "Less protein" does not mean low protein. I'll stick to 100-150 grams or so, which is a nice satisfying hunk of meat with each meal.

Essentially, my goal is KETOSIS, and focusing on what will keep me there. Sounds stupid coming out of my mouth, because DUH: KETOSIS. Hello, Low Carb, have we met? Well, just eating low carb willy nilly only helped me to a certain point, and then I floundered and regressed. I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently I didn't. Live and learn, try try again and all that jazz. I had my very best losses when I ate my simple three meals a day last december-- well, that was because my protein was limited (three portions a day, as opposed to grazing protein all day or whenever hungry) and that naturally bumped up my fat ratio. I guess I didn't realize that was what was happening, but it certainly seems true. During that time I felt great, slept well, in a good mood and dropping pounds. Good times. Why I spun out of control I have no idea, but I really really lost it.

So, my current plan is pretty easy:

Fat and lots of it, completely unrestricted
Average protein portions
As few carbohydrates as I can possibly manage (won't give up lc veggies or berries, just be very mindful of how much.)
Aim for only three meals a day, but won't shoot myself if I need a snack. A FAT SNACK.

That's about it. Nothing revolutionary, nothing strenuous. We'll see what happens. I'm fairly optimistic, as hindsight teaches me all this clicks with what has worked in the past. We are all differnet and have different levels of insulin resistance and therefore all different needs to tame the fat storage beast. We'll see!

Sounds good! Love to hear you with a plan! Woohooooo!

* Like I said before, the only difference from the LR I have been doing is the big arse breakfast and no snackies! If you get a major amt. (50 g. Or so) of your protein in at breakfast (eating it within 30 min.s of waking) it will keep you going till lunch and at times, till dinner. The plan also calls for fat! Skipped lunch 2 days in a row here. Not hungry!

50 sounds like a lot, but if you use hamburger, it isn't bad. (I heat up one and a half patties for breakfast) Steak was good, but the cost is an issue.

Very interesting stuff, and you've given me something to think about with this. Barring the severe calorie limitations of the hcg diet, I've always lost and felt my best getting the vast majority of my sustenance from fat.

I've always wondered just how much this kind of thing varies from person to person. I sometimes get sidetracked when I see other people on LCF reporting remarkable success from simply eating all they want of anything that's low in carbs. One sees people who lose forty pounds in a month on a diet that includes sugar-free candies made with maltitol, nuts and nut butters, yogurt and cheese, fruits, etc. in seemingly unlimited quantities. It's easy to think, "ok, I'll just do that and sooner or later, the weight will come off." And I'm sure it does for some bodies. Just not for mine!

I think the ultimate lesson here is to listen to YOUR body and learn from how you feel--just what you are trying to do!

I know, Jess, right? After reading Gary Taubes, and now the "war on insulin" blog Tiggy pointed out, it is more clear than ever that each and every one of us has a different degree of fat storage problem. When I was young I ate garbage all day long, lots of it, especially sugar, and i was skinny as a bone. Clearly I did not have a broken down fat burning system at that point. My tipping point was going on hormonal birth control in my late 20's, and I was instantly fat. No matter what I did, the weight kept piling on. Clearly that particular birth control pill damaged my hormonal system and from then on it was all whacked out and stored fat instead of burning it as I always did. Now I am left dealing with a broken system, and the only solution is to not feed it carbs, or too much protein where the excess converts to glucose and keeps one out of ketosis. Then there is my husband, who can eat carbs daily and is always the same weight. He doesn't have a broken down system like I do, so no need for carb restriction. That's why we see so many crazy stories out there that works so well for others but not for ourselves. We are all special snowflakes with different special needs, lol.

Do I know all this for fact? **** no. But, all my personal experience is pointing to this being true. Time will tell if I'm right and I break that freaking 250 barrier once and for all. Will extra high fat be my key? I dunno. Gonna try!

By the way, I GAINED 30 POUNDS WHILE I WAS ON MY BENDER. Seriously. I am not kidding. A few months eating bread and cake and WHAMMO! 30 freaking pounds. No wonder I'm a flipping mess.
