Sounds great!

So, with Atkins induction... is that like all protein & fat? Curious.

Atkins Induction is mostly fat, moderately protein and low carb (20 grams or less.) And the carbs come from mostly veggies and dairy. There is very little leeway with Induction. Technically, you aren't supposed to stray out so far as to have sour cream or cream cheese, but so far, I have. I had sour cream last night for a snack (a spoonful or two) and tomorrow I fully intend on making my "famous" pork tenderloin and then making the cream cheese and mustard sauce that goes with it. It's on the verge of spoiling so NOW is the time.

If I have veggies, they're very basic like lettuce, a little onion sauteed up in my scrambled eggs, or something like that. I don't think I had a single veggie in the past two days. Some days are like that. I'm happy with the foods I'm eating so far and I'm in it for the long haul. It's the first time that it's made sense to me to only weigh once a month. How liberating! I can do no wrong.

That sounds great. Like "eat fat get thin" (I hang out there...even though I don't quite fit), nice gals & they do share lots of recipes & tips. APRIL FOOLING FAT CHALLENGE.

Do you have problems with regularity? How do you keep things moving? That is my problem with such a diet, I get bound up & can't handle it anymore.

So, you're in ketosis & not feeling any hunger then either?

In ketosis, no hunger. I'm at that place where I have to remind myself to eat and then I eat twice a day. The first time is so that it's early enough so that I can take all my vitamins (if taken later, they complicate insomnia issues) and the second time is in the evening after work so I can enjoy a little vodka without getting too tipsy.

I take two Magnesium Oxide tablets in my group of vitamins that I take. I used to only take the one and people kept telling me to increase my Magnesium. But I had read somewhere that Magnesium competes for the same receptors as Calcium and if you don't keep it total balance, you gain in one respect but lose in the other.

So I threw caution to the wind and I take Mag Oxide 400mg (with Chelated Zinc), 2 tabs once a day. I take the one Calcium with D 600mg. So far, I am moving on a daily basis. It doesn't have great "form" but it's moving. Before I took the two Mags, I had trouble. So everyone who was telling me to take more Magnesium: You were right!!

Just curious what diet you follow Debby ? I know you are in maintenance, but there are lots of things you don't eat - from allergies only , or because of your WOE ?

Ah, that's cool. Glad its working for you. Thanks, I will check out that group & recipes. I might just do a few days to get back into ketosis. I'm not liking the hunger I've had this week.

I'm surprised alcohol doesn't interfere though. Hope that doesn't end up causing you problems.

Juli, that's great!!! Can't wait for you to join us. You'll have alot of reading to do to catch up. If you don't have the time for all that, you can come to the last 5 pages or so and that will get you pretty much up to speed. But there are alot of great pics and I think some video clips in the thread so skim through at least.

I'm fasting this morning so I can go get my lab work drawn while I'm down near my Dr's office. I'm a foggy-headed girl who should not be typing without coffee in her system. Time to get ready and head down to do those two things, then will swing by the farm and walk Cowboy. Hope that's all I end up doing. Someone might try to recruit me to do something else. "A warm body" and all that jazz.

I'm not having a good day. I feel depressed. Cried a bit and hugged Chloe. Thank God for this little girl. She's the one who will get me through the next 9 months. How am I gonna do this? He's not even gone yet! OMG! How am I suppose to hold it together when he's just gonna be trying to make it back alive? How can I be happy when he's going through Lord knows what!!! Yep, I'm bawling......better go! Sorry to be such a downer.

You're are definitely NOT a downer and you can lean on me anytime you want while he's gone. I agree! Chloe will keep you busy and filled with love. I really don't know what else to say to you about how you'll cope. But coming apart at the seams with fear won't change one thing. It won't protect him. So I hope that you can find a way to meditate and "dwell" on some Scriptures that comfort you. Find time everyday when you are falling apart (or close to it) to rest in the everlasting arms! He is the Rock. The Psalms are so wonderful (Certain ones. Others are pretty gloomy.)

I used to find comfort in Ecclesiastes. If you've never read it, you should check it out.

The Dr appointment was fine. "Normal!" I actually asked to get a copy of the report because I'm an RN and I hate to be told something is normal without getting to read it for myself. Then she started to show me how to read the report cause there were graphs on it and my personal Dr (who was the one who read it) wrote three notes at the top of the first page. This test was measuring the elasticity in the large arteries but can't test the small ones. The large ones have the usual amount of elasticity for someone of my age, weight, etc. But I fell into the lower range of normal with cardiac output or "stroke volume." My heart isn't pumping out quite as much blood as it should be, but it isn't terrible. Still, I don't consider that to be "normal."

I got a copy of that report, and also of the chest x-ray (which really WAS normal) and the Echocardiogram. I haven't had a chance to look over that report yet. Was running all afternoon and got home just after 5pm. Cissy was glad to see me.

I did some grocery shopping, lab work done, walked Cowboy, bought a new mailbox (finally), checked air pressure in all of my tires with new nifty tire gauge and each tire was only in the mid 20's psi. Topped them all off. I'm so tired of leaky tires but it happens with tires that are mounted on these fancy rims. Next time I will not get rims like those. I am SICK of checking tire pressure. Been doing it for as long as I have had these tires and I bought them new. Had them resealed a couple of times and nothing helps.

Back to the Dr visit, here are my vital signs while sitting on the table in the examination room:
128/80, 82, 95% room air O2 saturation, clear lung sounds, normal heart sounds, no abnormal sounds to neck arteries. Just what I told that "other Dr" would happen if I did what she wanted and came down for her to look me over. Vindicated!

Also got to see what I weigh. I took off my shoes and was wearing ankle socks, stretchy fat jeans, a bra and a sleeveless tank top (I took off the jacket that goes over that) and the scale said I was 205. That's pretty good considering I had drank a good amount of water and the Dr's scale always weighs me in at least 3 lbs higher than the home one, taken when in the buff and truly empty. So that's great news. It confirms what I already knew; that Atkins is getting me back to my "happy place."

On my way home from my shopping spree, I see that my landlord texted me to say that Back to Basics has mail boxes for $9. I texted back that I just bought one in the last hour. So it was 5pm as I drove past B to B and they close at 5. I'll go buy one in the next few days and take the other one back. About half what I paid for the one I got.

In other news, my poor Mother learned that one of her dear friends has passed away. She was friends with her when she lived out in Las Vegas and they stayed in touch via phone and cards in the mail for all these years. A week or so ago, my Mom called her number and it was disconnected. She tried her cell and it was also disconnected. Mom was worried and thought maybe she was in a convelescent home. I looked at the Las Vegas Sun newpaper online and couldn't fine the woman's name when I searched for it in the paper so I was hoping she was okay.

Mom finally wrote a short letter and addressed it to her friend but put "or family" on the envelope. She got a call back from the woman's son today and she learned all the awful details. The woman had a fall and then many complications, renal failure and then one day her heart stopped. She was 89. She feels so bad about it. Now I'm trying to find her obituary online and coming up with nothing. It should be there because her son said he had it put in the Las Vegas and the Boulder City paper. I encouraged Mom to call the son (he gave her his number and said to call anytime for anything) and ask him to send her a copy of it.

We never know how much time we have left, regardless of our age, lifestyle or family history. My Mom said, "She died while we were at the pizza place." (Celebrating my sister Teresa's birthday on March 3.) So sad.

I only ate an ounce of cheddar cheese after the labs were drawn so I could race to the farm, then when I finally got home, I had two cans of tuna with mayo. I'm really enjoying that right now. I'm off tomorrow and don't plan on leaving the house so God-willing I will make that tenderloin and clean this house!

I filled the bird feeder in the back yard and set up the patio table and chairs again in the back yard. It's beginning to look like Spring. Slowly but surely!

Have a very relaxing and blessed night, ladies. I'm way behind on my threads here but I will just do what I can and do the rest tomorrow.

OMG! The google spell checker button isn't even in my toolbar anymore! What happened to it? Do you guys have google toolbar? Can you please tell me if you still have the spell checker and if it's still working for you? I hate mysteries!

Interesting results of your tests. Will they perform a "stress-test" on your heart? Or any other heart tests? I'm glad you got the results & are checking them out. Very important... might be good to get another opinion, or see a specialist?

I'm so happy for you that your weight is coming down. That is for sure great news on weighing on the Dr's scale, late in the day in full clothes... I will not weigh after dressing, drinking, or eating & always after I empty my bladder.

I'm doing eat fat-get thin today. Kind of interesting. Adding more magnesium too (thank you). My calories are sure adding up fast, but I'm going to just go with it. Can feel the ketosis starting right now I'm also going to start using more salt, while on this. Lack of salt may be part of my "swelling" problem, even though it does cause water retention, apparently it also stops it if you use the right kind of salt. Go figure...

So, how did you feel at work today? Any BP issues?

I only walked Cowboy and walked slowly on very soft footing because he had soor feet. I was in and out of there in just a little over a half hour. I felt fine doing that. He was a good boy and seemed to tolerate the activity well. I let him eat some grass after the walk to reward him for walking three loops around a grassy field without trying to eat along the way. Then I hear Chelsea (other barn girl) calling my name. "Cheryl, NO GRASS!" His hoof issues are related to something related to eating grass. I was there all that time with the ferrier last night with all the other high-up ladies and no one said to keep him from eating grass, just to keep him from running around. Always some new curve ball coming at ya.

I'm glad you are in ketosis already! Sounds like you're enjoying the plan for a change. I have no trouble getting enough salt cause I tend to use plenty. Sorry about the swelling. Where does the fluid collect? Is it worse if you are sitting a lot or standing a lot?

The next test that I have scheduled is a stress test, but it's a new kind and it's better (supposedly) than a stress test. You are seated on a bicycle and there is a mask of sorts over your mouth. Maybe one of those tube things that they have you blow through for other respiratory tests. I won't be seeking a second opinion. Not at this point, anyway. But at least having all these tests done now, I will have a baseline. Something to compare future results to to show progression of whatever is going on.

I hope that my lifestyle changes will stick this time and that will help me turn back the clock. That alone will help more than any medication on earth! I know that in my soul. I hope I can get off many of these meds over time. Then I want to find a Naturopath of my own!

Wow! I just read the echocardiogram report. Only mild tricuspid and mitral valve regurgitation. No wall thickening anywhere. No elarged heart! Remarkable considering how much I've put my body through for 50 years. Praise God is all I have to say!!!!

I had a regular stress test a few years ago but it was "normal." The one I'm having done next week is done on a bike and there is less "artifact" or jiggling of the electrodes that are stuck on your chest, trying to read your heart rhythm so it's clearer.

The thing that bothers me is I used to be a smoker. If I add the years I smoked when I was in my teens and early 20's with the years I smoked after becoming a nurse, it comes to about 20 total years. And I didn't just smoke things that were legal. Unfortunately. (My sorted past)

Sleep tight, loved-ones. Will catch up with you again tomorrow. And as always, whether I say it or not, I mean "God willing." (I can't tell you how devastated I am to be without a spell checker!!!)

Glad your tests were ok. It's a mystery why your BP drops like that. Mine drops when I'm low on Potassium.
I keep feeling ill in the mornings. I think it happens when my sinuses are a mess. It doesn't sit well with my stomach. My son use to fell "sick" in the mornings and the dr said thats why. After eating or drinking something its ok. Or sometimes I just chew up 2 or 3 Tums and that helps. I have to start taking my sinus pills at night to dry up my nose.
I have to go.....BBL Chloe wants my attention!

Do you have bad Spring allergies? Things are starting to bloom (tentatively.) I wonder if your son had post nasal drip. I tend to have that and sometimes in the morning before I have woken up, it will cause me to cough. When I blow my nose, the coughing stops. I know, gross.

I've always had a slow resting hr and lowish bp. It's the spikes that I'm worried about. I think Atkins was just the ticket to start me feeling better. Shed some major water weight and there is less fluid volume in the body to have to push around through the vasculature. Makes sense, doesn't it?

I am finally going to eat! It's 3pm and my tenderloin is "resting" for 10 minutes. I've got the cream cheese/mustard sauce all made and it just needs to be rewarmed a bit in the microwave. Then it's going to be scarf city! I'm hungry and I rarely feel hungry on LC. But not eating until mid-afternoon is pushing it.

It's borderline too late to take my vitamins but I'll take them because I didn't get them yesterday. Won't go two days without them. I really don't feel vitamin pills are something we need every single day. Sometimes I think we go a little overboard with supplements.

I found a way to restore my google spell checker button. I got no response to my pleas for help but I texted my landlady and she said reboot the modem. That didn't work so I uninstalled the google toolbar and reinstalled it and walla! Back in business. That's all I care about. I'm a rotten speller and I need that back-up.

Time to eat! BBL.

It wasn't up to par. I don't know. Maybe it was defrosted for a bit too long. I ate some but threw the rest in the trash. Not worth taking a chance on something that wasn't tasty. Oh, well. My own fault. I over salted it, too. It just didn't crisp up like it normally does and the flavor just wasn't the same. Bummer but I'm still good for food. My freezer is full and I have lots of things in the fridge, thank you Lord!

I'm lost without my spell checker. Wish I knew what went wrong in the first place.

Too bad you didn't like your tenderloin. That stinks you had to throw it out.
Guess what? I found some women to talk to about my ds's deployment. Especially this one lady. She seems to be a person I can talk to about my fears and concerns. Strange I found her on LCF. But so glad! I'm glad she pm'd me.
Well, watching storage wars....gonna go. Ttyt! Good night!

THAT'S WONDERFUL!!!! God is good, honey. I knew you'd find a support system with at least one other woman who can relate to what you're going through. Praise the Lord! I'm so happy for you. She can give you comfort and support in ways that I can't even come close to giving. My heart's in it but I lack the personal experience that needs to accompany it.

Don't ever forget that "God is in it." He's not "out there somewhere", He's right there within the sound of your voice; whether it be a quite whisper or a loud cry of despair. That much I know for a fact! He hears us, and He cares. And He's all-powerful. The answer to our prayers isn't always what we want to hear, but that doesn't mean He isn't listening.

Do you remember that song by Garth Brooks? It's about unanswered prayers. Sometimes they work out for the best. Either way they work out, it is God's will. And that is something that is beyond our comprehension. It's so hard to take when it doesn't go in our favor, but we have to trust that it's all a part of the greater plan and to carry on.

I sound like "Miss Philosopher" tonight. Sleeping meds and vodka at work. Time to say goodnight and give you a squeeze. Sleep well, Tammy. Tomorrow is another day. Let's hope and pray it is a good one, and pray that we are protected and under the Grace of God. AMEN!

Wow! Busy day. I just got home. Did the 3-hour class at the farm and most of the time, another lady and myself were in the barn. We each had one horse and were to instruct 2 people each how to approach a horse, lead them into the barn or their stall, groom, and all sorts of basic stuff. I felt out of my element in that roll but it was pretty good. I just don't like how the higher-ups like to break the group into smaller groups and have them sent to different areas. People miss so much of what's going on in the other "arena" and no two people teach the same thing or the same way. I think it's an @$$ backwards way to go. Someday I'll bring it up in a meeting. (Of just us barn folks.)

After that, I drove to the little garden store in my little town and bought the half-priced mailbox. It is normally $19 and is only $10 right now. Same exact mailbox I bought at Home Depot the other day. I will put the saved money to good use. I also bought a packet of Morning Glories. I want to plant them in a couple of planters and have them run up the columns of the front porch. That will look pretty!

Then I drove to the Library because I needed to print out a few things. My printer is as good as dead and I don't know why. New ink still doesn't help it. The pages are so hard to read. I just think it's on it's way to the landfill. It's still good for scanning things so I guess I'll hang onto it. Way more info than you needed to know.

Got the documents printed and kept thinking to myself that there were three things I needed to do at the Library. Got home and remembered what it was. TAX FORMS. I went in through the upstairs entrance where the computers are so I never went downstairs past the tax form table. Will go back on Monday.

Then I went to the old abode, to filter through more stuff with a fine-tooth comb. I can finally say that I have everything I truly want from inside the house, upstairs and down. I may bring my outdoor fire pit over there this week and set it up in the front yard so I can burn personal papers that I don't need to keep. Years of bank statements and pay stubs and all that sort of stuff. I can't just let it go to the dump when they come to empty the house out and get it ready for sale again. So I will go and burn all that stuff. Asap.

Loaded up the back seat of my car with all that stuff and drove home. Was shocked to see it was nearly 4pm. I have not eaten yet today. Only had a couple sips of my coffee before heading out the door for the farm. Reheated it and am about to drink the rest now. I'm not hungry but I need to eat something.

Fed the dog, kicked her out to go potty, got the mail (the upstairs couple really are getting married. I thought they were) and now I'm here with y'all. I'm tired but very satisfied with my progress today. I feel fat cause I was stuffed into these jeans that are a little too low on my trunk. I can't wear anything but "mom jeans". I pull and tug and readjust anything else every time I sit, stand, bend over, get into and out of the car, etc. It is AWFUL! I couldn't wait to get them off. Now I'm in comfy pj's.

Going to rest a while now. How is everyone else doing today? Hope you're having a nice, warm weekend.

Hi Cheryl,
Sounds like a successful time at the ranch. Even with the extra challenges.

That's pretty cool that you don't get hungry. I don't make it too far without at least 2 cups of coffee.

Can you believe its snowing like crazy here? Adding up too! So crazy.

Your printer sounds like mine... good scanner, printer is getting worse & worse all the time. Time to replace. I think I'll buy one that scans, faxes, & uses only black ink. Never use the color, it always dries up & just costs $$.

I am having a relaxing day, doing dh books... almost done.

Have a great rest of day!

Wow Cheryl you have gotten so much done today !! WTG ! I hate going through old papers and such.....so tedious, but it has to get done.
Don't know how you did all that without eating ....... I don't get "hungry" like before LC, but I still have to eat something ! ~~ especially after coffee and my am meds ~

Getting some stuff done here too.... beautiful day ! I can't believe you are getting snow Debby !! Crazy ! ( Yeah, I'm jealous )

Think we might go out for mexican food ......yummy

Have a great Saturday !

It's snowing??? I haven't seen the weather channel or anything that reports weather in the world so I had no idea. Well, you sound like you're going with the flow! Maybe you can get one more cross country ski experience in before Spring officially appears. Better you than me! I think I might lose it.

Laura, my body doesn't really require food until dinner time. I don't know why that is but if that was a good way to lose weight, you sure can't tell it by looking at me!

I love Mexican! So not LC, though. What do you get?

I got a beef fajita taco salad - no beans, no shell.
Sometimes I get chicken breast smothered in mushrooms and onions and topped with cheese with salad on the side.
Guacamole

I find it pretty easy to eat fajitas and such without tortillas ( which I dearly love ) Texas does have the BEST mexican food - we try it in other states when on vacations and it is TERRIBLE ~~~ course we're biased

Yep! Snowing! The whole Pacific Northwest is getting participation... course ours turned to snow. My DIL is quite angry about it she hates snow. I wouldn't want to ski on that snow, its too wet & would end up going through on the driveway to dirt... enjoyed my elliptical instead, nice & dry!
DH had to pull out our motorcycle trailer for a friend to borrow. He said the snow in back of our shop is almost 4 ft. deep! Its in the shade, so didn't melt much.
That Mexican meal sounds mighty fine Laura!

I've eaten the fajita meat and veggies and cheese and done without the tortillas. I haven't eaten at one of those yummy restaurants in so long. I love Chili's restaurants. You're so right about TX having the best Mexican food but we have to get what we can get. I really love refried beans and it's a bummer (oh! and the rice) to have to skip those things. But the salsa is still legal for us LC'ers!

Isn't it amazing how long snow lasts in the shade? Did you mean the whole pacific northwest was getting "participation" or precipitation? I knew what you meant but I find things like that amusing. Had to highlight it so none of us missed it.

I'm glad you had a good warm dry day of exercise indoors.

I'm heading to bed now. Just checking in to say goodnight.
