My weightloss roller coaster..... (lots of pics & story)

Hey everyone.

I've struggled with my weight most of my life. In early 2007 I was as large as 315lbs with a 44" pants size. (6'1) 20 years old

I had finally had enough and myself and a friend of mine became very dedicated individuals at this point. Within a year I had lost over 100lbs down to 207.

I looked and felt great. I was very strong from all the weight lifting I had done during this time and my confidence was at an all time high. My diet consisted of a lot of Subway, a lot of brown rice and other such items that now looking back on it are what ended up causing my rebound shortly after. In late 2007 I met a girl and fell in love. The time consumption of a new relationship combined with a desk job lead me to stop most of my heavy weight lifting and return to a mostly sedentary lifestyle. My diet started to slip and eventually I had returned to my old ways completely. It didn't help that the girl I was with at this time had no motivation for improving her own health or weight.

Fast foward to 2011. I split up with her in early January of this year but it wasn't till around July that I stepped on a scale and realized I had slipped bad. I was up to 255lbs. Devastated and feeling depressed that I had made so much progress in 2007 only to let it slip over the next 3-4 years was quite the emotional shock. I have no idea where my head was at during that time or why I let myself get back to this point. I knew I had to get the weight off. Due to some minor injuries I incurred during my weight lifting days before I knew that I wasn't going to be able to lift with the intensity and dedication that I did before. I started looking for alternate ways to lose weight in a healthy manner. That is when I stumbled across some information on low carb. This lead me to reading Gary Taubes books, finding this forum and becoming totally dedicated to low carb. I am very thankful and happy I've made this lifestyle change. My diet is now 100% better than before and my body was responded quite well to the reduction in carbs. The weight has been pouring off and my appearance has improved dramatically. I know I'll be able to keep this up for a lifetime as my cravings for carb related foods have completely gone away. My exercise is mostly walking / sprinting 3-4 days a week.

I am happy to say I am now once again under 210lbs, as I stepped on the scale and weighed 209.6 today. My goal weight that I am currently pursuing is 190lbs. I haven't weighed that little since I was 14 years old.

Now, for a few pictures.

2007

315lbs. 44" Pants

Late 2007

207-215lbs 34-36" Pants

Now fast foward back to this year in July / Early August. I am now 25 years old.

255lbs. 40" pants

And finally, after 5 months of low carb... 209.6 and back down to 34-36" pants and large shirts.

My face has thinned out greatly as well.

Thank you low carb, and thank you low carb friends. I plan on posting more often here now as I continue my weight loss on my road to 190

It really is. As I said before I now feel more "in control" than ever before. When I lost my weight the first time I took it for granted. Now that my diet has changed in such a dramatic way I feel confident I can continue this lifestyle for as long as I chose to.

Congratulations! KUTGW!!

You now know (having read Gary Taubes' book -either one) that you didn't regain your weight because you got sedentary right?

I think it has sort of a secondary effect on my weight gain. Going back to a sedentary lifestyle effected my mindset, my energy levels and my mental health which in turn reflected on my diet and other aspects of my life. I do understand now it was mostly in my diet returning back to being very carb intensive.

Okay, over at ************, I almost had a near virtual fist fight with someone at the boards because some $&*#)*@# basically contradicted ANYONE with a post on a low-carb thread about how "carbs aren't evil and you gained weight because you were sedentary". OOOOOHHH it made me mad! (it was a post about someone was type 2 diabetic and how doctors are advising low fat high carb diets....this guy didn't have type 2. I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know anyone who does. )

AND this jerk even said that Taubes' book is just a bunch of brainwashing.

Needless to say, after he pretty much would pick on anyone praising low carb, I reported his butt!

When I hear these kinds of comments and claiming that they read the book - it confirms 1 or 2 things. They either didn't read the book or they read the book but didn't 'get it' either because it was beyond them intellectually or because they are so attached to their old paradigm.

Either way, it is pretty much an exercise in futility to argue with them. I only take on this kind of discussion when there is an opportunity to learn something new.

Exactly. This guy is ignorant, and I highly doubt he even read it. However, i should point out he seems to be one of those bodybuilding types - and someone else who was the same agreed w/ him on a post - so I think for bodybuilders carbs like brown rice & quinoa are absolutely essential. For the rest of us who are just average joes, LC is fine.

Oh and to OP - Awesome job!!

You look fantastic! Keep up the great work! The hardest part is keeping the weight off (as many of us can attest to). Stick to your lifestyle and visit here often. That's what helps me keep it off!

One other thing I noticed- after scrolling back and forth at your before/after pics - In the pics from '07 when you're around goal weight that you are now, and the pics from now, you definitely look a lot smaller now even though the weight in the two pics are around the same.

Anyone else notice this? I think LC has something to do with it

I've also noticed this. I was very strong at 207 before. I was benching 315, squatting over 400.

Here are two more pictures from 2007 which I have listed as 213lbs.

My face seems much fuller at that weight than it does now and my body seems much larger. Unsure why that is aside from the dietary changes.

My diet when I lost my weight before consisted of this:

Instant oatmeal and cream cheese bagel in the morning

Publix Deli Sandwhich and 6 boiled eggs for lunch

Subway for dinner and brown rice, with a large protein shake after.

Now my diet consists of eggs, bacon, meat, broccoli, almonds, peanuts and lots of cheese. I am sticking to under 20-25 carbs a day if I can help it.

Oh! Just found this one. This one was taken in JULY of this year.

Blah! It's amazing what a difference 40-45lbs of fat can do

Thanks Ladies for the nice comments

I am actually having a major time with self esteem and confidence at the moment. After splitting with my ex in January I've dated but not had much luck. It's so easy away from a mirror to forget what I look like now, which imo is much better than before.
