Hey Cle! I'm ok for the most part. D & I were able to have our "date night" Friday, so we saw the movie "Ride Along" (Kevin Hart was hilarious!) & went to sushi place afterwards.

On another note...health-related:

I've been having really bad jaw pain again, which is frustrating. My insurance didn't approve me getting a CT scan of my sinuses, and I'm not paying it out of pocket b/c it's ridiculous, so I'm frustrated b/c I don't know how to proceed from here. I've worn my nightguard the last several nights & it seems to make my pain worse the next day. I just don't know. I seriously think it's related to my sinuses still b/c it hurts to even touch my face, my teeth/gums feel sore, & I have been congested for awhile now. I also get headaches quite often. I take OTC pain meds, but they don't seem to help. I've tried Aleve, Goody's extra strength powders, Bayer aspirin, Advil, sinus medicine, etc. Nothing seems to help, and it makes it really hard for me to function. I get in very bad moods b/c it hurts so bad, but it seems like no one knows how to help me. My bf alluded to stuff "being in my head," which really pissed me off b/c I know how bad it hurts. My mom said she went through the same thing with my dad b/c he thought she was a hypochondriac, but she has issues such as fibromyalgia, sarcoidosis, etc. She also complains of jaw pain, so I know it's not just me.

I feel helpless right now.

Hey Jayce, I had the same problem years ago and even took off work as an emergency to go to the dentist because the pain go so bad and I thought I had a tooth infected....face was swollen on one side, teeth/gums hurt, headache-very sharp pain, felt like a knife was being pushed through one side of my head from the top to bottom of jaw (graphic but it was extreme and that's the best way I could describe the pain). I was dx with TMJ finally by primary doc after going to the dentist and they said nothing was wrong so I made an emergency appt. with doctor..I needed relief. After she dx me, the ONLY relief I was able to get was from taking very strong pain medication and anti-inflammatory medication, which for me is Flexeril. My doc said when I'm stressed I must clinch my teeth together (some other do this and others grind excessively but I don't because my teeth doesn't show wear and tear of a grinder) while I'm sleeping so I'm unaware that I've just caused my jaw to become inflammed. I had to look up TMJ because I'd never heard of it, but maybe google and see if you have the same symptoms. You mentioned having congestion so it may not be TMJ for you but your other symptoms are similar to what I had. Do you only feel this pain when you're congested?

I feel pretty certain that I have TMJ...I just found it curious that I usually have congestion or sinus headaches around the same time (I have allergy issues, though). I get clicking noises at times when chewing, I have issues with my jaw feeling "stuck" b/c it gets sore during chewing, and then you add in the fairly constant jaw pain, tooth/gum soreness...yea. O_O I guess I'm just worried about the cost of seeking a TMJ specialist b/c it seems like my insurance weasels out of stuff -- like I dropped approx. $375 for the nightguard, which I totally regret b/c it doesn't seem to help & I didn't really have the $$ to spare. I am at my wit's end, though.

I just want to be able to function normally in everyday life. That's my main wish right now. It's hard to convey the pain to someone who has no idea what you're talking about.

I had TMJ as a teenager--the jaw "clicking" got bad enough that my jaw locked up sometimes. What a horrible feeling to have. I got braces and the mouth guard and had both for 2 years... and now only once in a blue moon does my jaw "click"--but then again, I don't chew gum anymore and try to be mindful of how hard I bite down. Would your dental insurance cover for a referral to a specialist? Many carriers do...make a phone call and ask. I hope you can get that taken care of and get some relief!

I totally understand, you're right. People think you're exaggerating when you try to explain the pain...I often use the description I stated earlier about the knife part, so I know people think I'm exaggerating when I try to tell them about the pain. It's like childbirth, you'll only truly understand it when/if you go through it. I came back on here tonight because I was thinking of you and feeling your pain. I never saw a specialist, my primary care doc 'treated' me because I guess I was/am lucky that when it happen, Flexeril (I said in last post it's an anti-inflammatory but it's a muscle relaxer) is all it takes to help relieve the pain along with eating food that doesn't require me to do a lot of chewing for a day or so. Plus I'm a gum chewer so I have to really be cognisant of not chewing too long or too often. Also, maybe because of the sinusand congestion this makes the situation a lot worse because you're also having to deal with your nasal passages inflammed and irritated, along with your jaw that's also inflammed. Now that I'm typing, I do remember my doc also gave me an antibiotic just to make sure inflammation wasn't going on from something else... I hope you find relief!

yes, this too! The jaw clicking is a sure sign that TMJ is going on....glad you don't suffer from it often now.

Jayce, so sorry honey! Ask your Doc about taking Sudaphed for your sinus issues. Sometimes my sinuses get so bad I can't put my back teeth together! Sudaphed usually helps. I hope you feel better soon!!

I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain My DS has issues like yours and suffers a lot with allergies too... so I can totally relate. Will your insurance not let you go to a specialist? You definitely need to be seen by someone who knows how to help you!!

Hey everyone! My apologies for not getting my booty in here to respond. I appreciate each & every one of you taking the time to interact with me here...I was feeling really down last time I posted & frustrated, so thank you for being such good LCF's to me!

Shari: I'm going to consult with my PCP to see what he thinks...I may mention the Flexeril option. He's a very kind man & always spends a lot of time asking me questions, etc. on the rare occasions I see him, so that may be a good starting point. I have noticed that Ibuprofen seems to help the most as compared to other OTC meds. I haven't been wearing my nightguard recently b/c it seemed to exacerbate the pain. I'm not sure what to do & feel frustrated w/ myself that I paid so much $$$ for it! I guess it does me no good to obsess about it though...

Lisa: I'm not sure if I can get referred to a dental specialist. I did look on my dental insurance site the other day, but the 2 TMJ specialists I'd found locally aren't in my "network." Ugh. I know they will be pricey, so IDK. I will give it another look, though! I'm glad you don't suffer much anymore from it!

Blonde: Is there a special type of Sudafed that gets prescribed? I thought Sudafed was OTC, but maybe I'm thinking of something else. How are things with you now that all the celebrations are over?

Dani: Sorry to hear your DS suffers from bad allergies -- that definitely sucks! I have congestion & sinus headaches pretty much year-round. It just varies in degrees of severity. I need to start using the Nasonex I have ever day to see if it will help!

Cle: Heyyyyyyyy, boo/soror! I totally forgot today was the "wear red" day, but I do have little red feathers all over my tank top -- does that count? You're an inspiration, and I'm so proud of the progress you've been making. Can't wait to see you soon!!!

Well, this has been a really good morning thus far: I weighed in at 213.4 (YES!), and today's the 3rd morning I've worked out in a row. I go around 5-5:15 a.m. I've never been a morning person, but I'm proving to myself that I CAN do things I thought I couldn't do...it just takes a little extra effort. Food has been really good this week -- I've been bringing lunches/snacks to work. Made an EmilyBites "deep dish pizza casserole" WW recipe last night, and it was yummy! Having leftovers today.

Tonight we're going to the Norfolk Admirals hockey game -- should be fun! I love hockey in person (I'll admit it -- I enjoy the rowdiness...lol). My bf bought tickets near the glass surround the rink, so it should be a great view. I think this'll be the 1st hockey game the kids have attended, so I'm looking forward to it.

Hey Jayce! Happy Friday! Good job on the working out and showing that scale who's boss. I'm a huge hockey fan too! I go to as many Minnesota Wild games as I can. One of the most fun sports to watch!

Hope you have a great weekend--fish fry Friday for me. We're going to a casino to eat, then try our luck a little.

Sudaphed PE is OTC. The other Sudaphed is also OTC BUT you have to get it from your pharmacist...at least we do here in CA. Hope your feeling better!

The following is an excerpt from a relationship article, but I thought it was great advice overall & spoke directly to me (admittedly neurotic at times, lol):

So what do you do when you realize you’re scared of what you want? What do you do with the belief that you’re not good enough? You simply become willing to move beyond the fears. Often times the awareness of our fearful patterns is enough for them to be released.

Sometimes I will even say to myself “I hear you fear, but I’m not going to let you determine my actions right now.” Instant personal power.

This opens the way for you to step beyond the limiting beliefs you carry about yourself. The truth is, you’re good enough right now in this very moment. There is nothing to prove. Become curious about your beliefs and behaviors. Invite them in, question them, and watch as they melt away.

Thanks, Lisa! The scale was up a bit this morning, but I wasn't surprised b/c I "indulged" this past weekend...I started an 8 week challenge today, so I was getting some cravings outta the way. Lol! The hockey game was slow for awhile (no big fights -- LOL), but our team finally scored near the end (was 0-0 before that). One of my fave moments was when I was dancing in my seat, and then ended up on the jumbo-tron...hahaha! The kids starting dancing when the camera was on us, so they got a kick out of that.

How was the fish fry & casino??? I've never been to a casino, but I'd like to go one day. I don't think I'd be much of a gambler, but I'd like to try the slots. LOL.

Ahhh, ok...gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. I have been taking Mucinex, which has helped with the congestion somewhat. Been taking Advil/Ibuprofen for the jaw pain, which is on & off. Sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly! Hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks, Dani! We did have a good time...I really enjoy hockey too. Saturday we got to go on a double-date with friends, so that was nice too. Things are really good right now, and I'm happy.

************************************************** **********************************

Well, as I said above, I started an 8 week challenge today...it's fairly intensive & is based off of earning points for different things. Took me longer than usual yesterday while grocery shopping b/c I'm trying to limit foods to 10 g sugar or less, so I put some things back that I'd initially reached for. I am thinking this will give me an extra "push" to get to 210 & then reach Onederland!

Oh, forgot to mention, one of my indulgences this past weekend (which was totally worth it), was breakfast made my bf -- a recipe from Food Network for "Croissant French Toast with Caramel Apples." O-M-G!!!! That was one of the best things I swear I've ever tasted. Lol.

Scale was down this morning, which is good. My official 1st challenge weigh-in was 216.8 on Sunday a.m. (up from 213.4 Friday), and today I saw 215 even. Did really well with my food yesterday & had a nice calorie "cushion" left over. I need to work on significantly upping my water intake today!

I tried something new at Subway yesterday -- I researched the nutrition ahead of time, which greatly helped. You can customize your sandwich online -- GREAT planning tool! I got the oven roasted chicken with provolone, lettuce, green peppers, black olives, sweet onion sauce, & olive oil...very, very good! The oven roasted chicken is more filling than the sliced turkey I typically get.

Exercised the past 2 mornings on the Arc trainer...I have a love/hate relationship with that thing. Lol! I'm looking to incorporate some different types of exercise since I'll be doing it a lot more with this challenge. I really need to try some classes, break out some of my DVD's, & do some body weight exercises or use my dumbbells. I think variety will be a really good thing!

I know! I can't believe it's almost a week away till I leave for Florida! Hope y'all will be having better weather than us...lol. It's super cold right now. They're saying we may get a sleet/snow mix today in late afternoon -- hoping work will let me leave early if that's the case b/c I have one of the farthest commutes.

My car's next door at an auto shop b/c I'm getting 2 new tires...fun, fun! I found a 10% off coupon on their website that the girl didn't even know about it, but they're going to honor it, so it'll save me around $20. Hey, every little bit helps!

Saw 214.2 today, so weight's going back down. Had another great day food-wise yesterday -- made the Bubble-Up Enchilada Casserole (WW-friendly) again last night, and brought leftovers for lunch. Love that stuff!

Exercised this morning -- 23 mins on Arc trainer (leg targeting program...hurt like heck!) & 7 mins walking the inside track.

Got in more water yesterday (I'm supposed to drink half my weight daily for the challenge), so I'm going to aim for that as best as I can.

Bf's going out for drinks tonight w/ his cousin who's visiting from out-of-state, so I'm kinda looking forward to some semi-alone time with a book...LOL. I get tired of watching TV sometimes (although we did catch up on this week's The Following episode -- love that show!), so it's nice to unwind in a quiet space with a good story & some hot tea.

Doing great!

Enjoy your quiet time tonight. It is nice being able to sit and do nothing but read. Great way to spend an evening!
Love The Following! Haven't seen this weeks epi yet, but man, this season is all kinds of twisted, isn't it? I love it!

Hey Jayce! Good for you on indulging AND being able to take the weight back down! The 8 week challenge sounds like a great motivator! I did one a couple years ago--a 6 month challenge and I lost over 30 pounds during that time--sure wish I could have kept it off. LOL

I had to google the bubble-up enchilada recipe. Sounds good! I make a bubble taco bake that is simliar, but probably not so WW friendly.

Have a great day!!

214.2 again this morning -- happy to see that considering I had major tummy issues for the whole evening. Not sure what triggered it, but I was bloated as could be. Stayed under my calories, though. I've been using the acidophilus pearls, but they don't seem to help at all with my digestion. I think I will go back to PB8 that I used before. I know I didn't drink enough water yesterday, so I will really work on that today! Some days it's harder to do than others...

Exercised this morning & really pushed myself. I was dripping sweat by the time I left, but I felt good endorphin-wise.

Time for a snack b/c I didn't have breakfast this morning, just a FiberOne bar & half banana. Think I'll have some 2% cottage cheese I have in the mini-fridge here...thank goodness! Planning on having Subway for lunch since I still have $$ & rewards points to use...will probably get the oven roasted chicken again. Yum!!!

Dani -- This week's episode was pretty good! I really love to hate Emma as a character, but that actress plays her soooo well. I did end up reading last night after the kids went to bed, but I got sleepy pretty early. I'm reading Safe Haven right now...never read any Sparks' books, but I like it so far.

Lisa -- Yes, this challenge is definitely helping me find some new focus. This is the most I've exercised on a regular basis, so I'm sure it'll help my metabolism. That website has some great recipes! I know Lexi on here makes stuff of hers quite often also.

213.6 this morning. Tried something new for my workout today: started w/ 10 mins. on treadmill, then step-ups, walked track, did 2 sets of 3 minutes on rower, walked, did 2 sets of dumbbell shoulder presses, did jump-ups, etc. That was the first time I've used the rowing machine, so I was proud of myself for trying something "new" even though I get self-conscious at the gym. Exercised Mon-Fri mornings for the 1st time ever, so I'm proud of that as well. I finally kept that promise to myself: even though it's been hard, it feels good also!

The rowing machine is awesome! I loved it so much while I was going to the YMCA that I got one for home! Really works your core.

Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day weekend!

The good news: I saw a new low # Saturday morning -- 212.6! The weather was in the high 30's, so I walked outside at a school & did some calisthenic moves. I enjoy being outside, so it was a nice change from the gym.

The bad news: food-wise, I did terrible this weekend. I kinda figured it would happen b/c we had events to attend -- a kid's b-day party at Dave & Buster's Saturday, then dinner with family at a local German restaurant, then my sister, bro-in-law, and bf's cousin came over to our place for drinks. I had a ridic amount of alcohol Saturday, especially b/c I don't typically drink much. I had 2 Skinny Long Islands at D&B's, a glass of Riesling, a Crispin hard cider, and then I made several drinks at home. I definitely went overboard...smh.

Yesterday, we went to see the LEGO movie w/ the kids, so we all split a large popcorn. I also had a couple sugar cookies (large ones, mind you) that I'd brought home on Valentine's Day. Oy VEY, am I retaining some major bloat! The friggin' scale said 217.8 this morning -- that's a little over 5 lbs in 2 days. CRAZINESS!!!

Exercised this morning...did 20 minutes on the elliptical, then 2 sets of step-ups, & walked the track the remainder of the time. It's funny b/c I've been really sore on the sides of my butt all weekend...not sure what that's from??? Maybe it's b/c I did lunges Friday.

I did receive several comments this weekend that I was looking good...one was from my sister, and the other was a neighbor who hasn't seen me up close in awhile. She asked me how much weight I'd lost. That felt good!

Going to focus on getting my water in & tracking food like normal. I am leaving for Florida early Thursday morning, so I've gotta start making a list for what I need to pack. I am so looking forward to warm weather, Walt Disney World, & meeting one of my long-time LCF's Cletra!

Job well done on reaching the new low Jamie!

You had an eventful weekend, and we know that happens from time to time. I too, was around so much junk food and high carb food while chaperoning my niece's sleepover.

Today is a new day though! Wishing you well today, and kuddos on the morning exercise.

That is some crazy bloat, Jayce--but at least you know you didn't eat 5 pounds worth of food and that it will disappear in no time!

Sounds like you have a fun vacation planned! Hope the week goes by quickly and that you thoroughly enjoy your fun time away!
