I'm not following any specific plan at the moment; just taking it easy and trying my best to make the right choices when faced with hunger. That's all I can do.

It's a bright and beautiful afternoon here in DC. I'm going to get out and enjoy the sun later...

No plan as of yet; however, I purchased the 17DD Kindle version as well as the audiobook (listen while working/bus/train) and have been reading since yesterday. So far so good!

Kudos on the gym membership!!! I'm going to walk today and hopefully make it a habit. I feel so much better when I exercise. Don't worry, you'll figure it out. I think the 17dd would work well and you only have to commit to 17 days. I'll be here no matter what you pick

WOE: 17 Day Diet--Cycle 4 Maintenance
Start Date: 1/27/03
Here to support you in whatever plan you choose to follow. C1 days 1-17 are the most restrictive and therefore have the greatest weight loss; exercise 17 min/day. C 2 days 1-17 (or 18-34) are alternating days of C1 with added protein/healthy carbs; weight loss slows but need to add more exercise time. C3 days 1-17 (or 35-52) are least restictive and more food; weight loss slows but add even more exercise time.

I suggest you only read the intro chapters to the science behind the diet and the chapter on Cycle 1 until you pretty much have it memorized. I didn't read chapter on Cycle 2 until a few days prior to transition; same with Cycle 3. This way you have a good grasp of the protocol.

I've been on maintenance now for a few months. I eat C1 Monday thru Friday, and on the weekends, I allow myself a few special things, but not more than 1 or 2 per day and in small quantities. I still have "trigger" foods; I don't think that will ever go away.

Best of luck and here to answer any of your questions.

Jane

Thanks Ladies... I really appreciate your continued support.

Jane, thanks for the breakdown. It helped me to understand the different phases of the 17DD. I have to be honest, I listened to a little of the audiobook over the weekend, but haven't read the book yet. So, I will keep in mind what you said about reading the intro chapters only. I'm going to take lots of notes and draft a meal plan for the first 17 days. I want to be well prepared before starting.

Does the book have an acceptable food list? I sure hope so. I wish I'd purchase a hard copy .

The hardcopy is easier to navigate than audio or ereader. I will post foods for C1 for you.

I also "eased" into C1 for about 7 days--starting with lemon water and green tea. Just be careful with the amount of fat you consume on LC. 17DD is low fat. I think if you eat too much fat on the days leading up to start, you may experience hunger...just a thought.

Yes, I agree. I think I'll visit the bookstore to purchase a hard copy. Thanks in advance for posting the foods for C1. I really appreciate it! I do have lemon and green tea on hand, so I'll start drinking those items tomorrow. Also, thanks for the tips about the fat! I'll keep that in mind.

My .02 as to what is written above:

Breakstone LiveActive only comes in 4 pack -4oz each container = 1 serving/1/2 cup.

Personally, I like Chobani Greek yogurt (all except the pomergranat--yuck). I think if you eat the fruit yogurt, you need to count the fruit as 1/2 fruit serving. Yes, there is added sugar in the Chobani, but I believe it is OK to eat any yogurt as long as it's under, I think, 13g of sugar. I eat Dannon Light & Fit Carb Control Vanilla yogurt.

Lemon water: you can drink it hot or cold, with or without sweetener. When I started, fresh lemons were going for .69 each, so I opted out for bottled lemon juice, which I still use (a couple of tablespoons (2) to 8 oz water). If you can't stand the lemon juice, you can also buy bottled unsweetened concentrated cranberry juice--I think Knudsens is one brand. Again, I think 2 tablespoons to 8 oz of water.

Green tea: unsweetened, flavored, hot or cold makes no difference; drink with each meal.

Chicken/turkey breasts or ground: make burgers, taco filling over green salad (a staple of mine), all sorts of good chicken recipes out there

Veggies: eat a lot of them and they will fill you up.

Healthy fats: you need them to keep your innards lubricated.

Water: Oh, totally forgot to mention that above. Drink 8 8oz glasses of water; coffee is negative water so you can't count that towards your daily total.

I eat breakfast/lunch at work. I eat all my food over the course of 6 hours and then I have my dinner about 6:30ish. I was rarely hungry. If I felt I wanted something sweet, I would grab an extra yogurt or an extra fruit, but that was rare.

This is a lot to remember; that's why I suggest concentrating on Cycle 1 only.

Oh, yeah....you need to eat your 2 servings of fruit before 2:00 p.m.

This is pretty much the basics. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I posted my weekly menus for C1 and C2 on my journal if you have enough patience to weed through it all. I try to post the ones that flopped too. Many I still make and are my "go to" weekday dinners. I work full time and commute, so dinners are sometimes more like a fire drill than a meal.

PS: note on veggies: for some reason, which I don't understand, zucchini/yellow summer squash is not allowed until C3. I think this is a mistake since it is low calorie and low glycemic index. Dr. M does include it on the speciality/ethnic section for C1.

PPS: note on lean protein: I don't understand why pork tenderloin is not allowed on C1 since it is a lean/white meat. I didn't eat it the first round of C1 but I included it on the second round of C1.

Jane, thank you so much for taking the time to post the information. I read parts of the book lastnight and this morning. I'm going to copy and paste the information above to a word document and study it like crazy.

17DD seems simple and easy to stick to. I'm excited and can't wait to start. This is the balance I was searching for... I wish I had started way back when Shari was following the plan.

Well, I'm off to shower and head to work. I'll be back later.

I carried around a "cheat" sheet with me every time I went grocery shopping! I've become an avid label reader and try and check all brands in the same category to get the best of the best. I try and buy one "new" item each week. Sometimes it's a new variety of fish, sometimes a new fruit, or a new seasoning/spice...just to mix things up and experiment.

This WOE works for me. I am not fond of meat (or turkey), but eat chicken and love fish (we have 2 fish meals every week). I love love love veggies/salad, so that is a big component of our diet. I really missed the fruit on LC, so eating 2/day on this plan is a big plus for me. I did eat yogurt on LC and there is that whole controversy of carb count vs probiotics. It didn't seem to bother me on LC, but now I can eat it and not wonder or worry about a stall.

Have a great day!

Jane, I just put together a quick guide including the information you posted above, as well as some information that I found on the net. I stuck it in the side of my hard cover journal to carry in my purse . I'm so glad I have your support. You are a wealth of information! Thank you so much!!

I'm going shopping this weekend to get everything I'll need to begin on Sunday. I'm excited. I'm not looking at this as a diet to lose weight, but an overall lifestyle change. I love low carbs, but I need to be able to eat a variety of foods which include low-sugar fruits, grains, and healthy fats! I love meat, but I can do without the "fatty" cuts for right now. It won't kill me (at least I hope it doesn't, lol). I think as long as I'm taking my CLO and occasional coconut oil, I'll be okay .

I'm heading to the gym around 1PM this afternoon. Gonna start off slow...

Gracie, did you and your sister start the 17DD yet?

Shari, Yes, please join me. I could really use your support as well!

No, I'm doing hcg Omaha plan right now. My sister had to have oral surgery yesterday so she won't be dieting in the next couple weeks. Maybe after I get through this round I will try the 17dd. It all sounds good. I just don't like chicken breast at all or tuna so my protein choices would be very limited. I think you are going to do GREAT!

Oh-okay. I hope your sister is not in too much pain after having oral surgery. OUCH! Best wishes during your new round. I'm sure you'll knock it out as always. I haven't checked your journal in a couple days... on my way there now to cheer you on .

Hey Meek,
I see ya with a new journal maybe I can keep up this time. I totally feel you on trying to figure out what to do. I am all over the place right now and it's so frustrating. Maybe starting a journal myself will help, who knows. Anyway I'm here to support you on your journey.
