Long Journey...First Step

I have about hit wrong bottom. Everyone is telling me if I don't lose weight I am going to have a very short life.

I just can't eat carbs like "normal" people. It makes my diabetes out of control. You should have seen what the diabetes diet was in the hospital. I could eat that all day. Pancakes, rolls, mashed potatoes... I didn't get it one bit....And yet they couldn't figure out why my blood sugar was still high?

So my nurse sister starts on me when I got out of the hospital. She said I should go on this Dukan Diet. It's like low fat Atkins as far as I can tell.

I think it goes a little nuts on the low fat. No salad dressings, oils, butter, mayo. OK. I can eat low fat buttt I am not giving up salad dressing and mayo. The only time I eat mayo is mixed with tuna. I have to use salad dressing. They recommend making some kind of yogurt /mustard salad dressing. No. Not doing that.

I can't stand cookied veggies. I like salad veggies. With salad dressing.

I don't see the big deal. If I can give up every carb food on the planet then I am having my salad dressing and mayo with tuna.

I love cheese. I can even give up cheese. I'm not giving up salad dressing.

Well, the first 10 days is meat only anyway and 1.5 Quarts of water. I can do that.

My daughter is going back to college in a month. I want to lose 100 lbs. Her school is on the quarter system, which is 10 weeks plus finals. So the first quarter is sept 21 to dec 8. I want to lose 33 lbs between now and then. That will be 15 weeks which gives me the classic 2 lbs per week goal.

Oh yeah, last night I saw "The Help". That movie was totally awesome!!

Congrats on getting started!

Have you looked through the information on the other plans? I don't know anything about Dukkan, but I know on Atkins I still eat salad dressing and mayo. In fact, I eat more mayo than ever...and I've lost 9.4 lbs in the last 3 weeks!

Whatever you decide, good luck! The first few days are hard, but it gets so much easier after that!

Well Day 2
I got a glimpse of a bag of white chocolate chips that I have in the baking part of the cupboard. Oh, that was bad. I was looking for boullion cubes b/c I am cooking chicken.

All I could think of was how goood it would feel to eat those chips. And then my mind wandered to binge eating - yeah that's my gig - i'm a binge eater - and how comfortable I would feel eating a bunch of stuff that will kill me eventually. It is amazing how fast your mind can go down the list. Twinkies. Bagels. Toast. Toasted Bagels. Toasted Bagels with lots of butter. Candy. Chocolate chip cookies. on and on

So then I closed the cupboard and ate a sugar free popsicle which upon further inspection actually says "NO SUGAR ADDED" and it has 1 gram of sugar. Marketing bastards.

I am in the protein only phase. But it's different then Atkins because it's low fat. So that means no cheese. UGH... All protein doesn't sound bad except I really don't eat a lot of meat when you get right down to it. So that makes me think what do I eat?

Hmmmm...

Fast food types of meat. That's processed meat. And fries. And junk food. And subs.

I like regular food but I don't feel like cooking it anymore.

Well that's changing. Today I cooked hamburgers, eggs, and now chicken. So I guess I'm hanging in there so far.

Amazing how you can eat a bunch of meat and all of a sudden the idea of a salad sound wonderful! The brain is so strange.

OH yeah, BTW, the Dukan Diet website said that my "TRUE WEIGHT" based on the most I ever weighed, the least I ever weighed, how many diets I have been on, and a few other factors is 180.

Screw that.

I could live on fast food meats so I feel your pain.

Good job on resisting the chips! I can not keep chocolate chips in my house...One handful turns into one bag!

It's Monnndayyyy. woo hoo. First day trying to keep on this diet at work.

Breakfast i had 3 eggs and slice of cheese. cheese is a cheat.
Ate hardboiled egg for lunch.
Lunch is chicken breast with some ranch dressing. dressing is a cheat.

So I am thinking that I can get some buollion cubes to and make a broth to put the chicken in. That way no ranch dressing.

In case anyone is reading this - yeah i know it's too many eggs. I can only do so much.

So far I am hanging in there.

I am not so much a fan of eggs, but I have been using the egg beaters, and with that I can eat scrambled eggs for breakfast and lunch and not tire of it. Not sure why I like that better...but I do. I add in some turkey crumbles (I think it is Jimmy Dean) and an ounce of cheese and I am good to go!!
