Hi guys!
I'm back from vacation and I gained...nothing!! I didn't lose anything either, but at least no gain, so I'm happy. We did a ton of walking everywhere we went so I think that was probably the biggest factor. The best part of the trip was to the crystal cave. We had a blast and even though I am claustrophobic and was worried that I would freak, I was fine and didn't feel panicky at all inside. It was so nice and cool and the crystal formations are amazing! The not so great part of our trip happened later in the week when DD stepped on glass in the hallway of our hotel. There were 4 large wine glasses just sitting on the side of the hallway and she plowed into them in her flip flops coming back from the pool. We spent 4 hours in the ER and she ended up with 3 stitches. Poor thing, she was such a trooper though. She still wanted to go to the character breakfast the next morning even though she was in pain and her foot was stiff. ![]() Anyhoo, it's back to reality and back to work tomorrow. DD will probably insist on going to camp even though she can't swim all week and it's supposed to get really hot again. I'll visit journals later today and tomorrow to see what you all have been up to while I was gone! |

Welcome back! Those Crytal Caves sound amazing! Hope your daughter heals quickly-- my lacerated and is just now getting back to normal function, but still hurts when pressed. Yuck!
Have a great day, Laura! |

Well, DD went off to camp today and guess what? It's bouncy castle day.
Poor baby can't bounce with the stitches in her foot, can't swim and I'm not sure about letting her go to the sand castle contest they are having on the beach later this week. Back at work today and trying to get back into the swing of things. Why is coming back from vacation always so hard? I have another vacation coming up at the end of next month but it can't get here soon enough for me. It's so hot and humid today. Calgon, take me away! ![]() |

That is a shame now she is limited for her activities. Good luck getting back to it, I would be thrilled to go away and not gain, LOL In fact I have no clue what that is like! LOL

Thanks, Janet. We go to the pediatrician Friday to have it looked at. I don't think the stitches look ready to come out yet but we're going to CT to visit my brother this weekend and I want to at least have it checked again before we go.

My turkey/zucchini meatloaf was the bomb! We had a brief storm that knocked the power out for about 15 minutes and I didn't realize the crockpot went off as well (duh!) so we ate a little later than expected but it came out great. I used the aluminum foil in the crockpot like the recipe said and it didn't fall apart or get mushy. Even my 16-year old stepson said it was awesome. Definitely making that one again.
So, the stepson is temporarily staying with us now because he isn't getting along with his mom and stepdad. We went through the same thing 2 years ago with his brother, who is now 18. Eventually it blew over but the stepdad is a PIA. He overstepped his bounds in my opinion by searching my stepson's room and backpack because he's been smoking cigarettes. I don't like the smoking either but I think it's up to his mom and dad to search his stuff. He leaves his backpack around our house all the time and I would never just pick it up and look through it and then start screaming at him if I found cigarettes and throw him out of the house. Idiot. |

Awww Laura! Hope DD is better soon and you're right about the overstepping boundaries!
The meatloaf sounds delic. Share please? I make mine with mushrooms to replace the bulk of bread (along with other veggies - read the recipe on the blog), but omg, the zucchini sounds fun too!!! It keeps stuff so moist, using the veg in it instead of bread! |

Amber, I got hooked at 13 myself and smoked for 11 years. Now at 45 I regret it but I also know kids experiment and you can't flip out and throw them out of the house. This kid has been down the drugs and alcohol road already and he's not a bad kid despite what the stepfather thinks. He had an underage drinking situation a few weeks ago that he still has to go to court for so he's in a ton of trouble as it is.

I think I was 11 when I first started smoking. Help and support are what that kid needs to not become a smoker!
BTW, I quit by the time I was 20. |

That's such a hard addiction to beat - K is a former smoker but is totally addicted to nicorrette gum.

I hope everyone had as nice a weekend as I did! We went to Connecticut for a bday party for one of my nephews and then the next day was the Christening for the other nephew. DH and I were the godparents. It was just a great weekend with family. We don't get up there much so it was nice to get together and see everyone and let the kids have fun with their cousins.
![]() I'm feeling horribly bloated today. I didn't overdo my food at all this weekend and haven't gained anything so I don't know what's going on but my tummy is all round and rumbling like Winnie the Pooh. It's going to be a loooong work day. ![]() |

OMG, it is hump day for sure. How can I be this tired on a Wednesday? I need the weekend to hurry up and get here!
I need some advice from my friends, because I do consider you all friends, and I trust you to give me good guidance. My DD has gained alot of weight recently--12 pounds since the last time I weighed her in May. She's very active but she sneaks junk food at camp and at home if it's around. I've been trying really hard to make sure she only has fruit for snacks and flavored water, no juice. Mostly I'm afraid of making a big deal of this and making her paranoid about her weight but at the same I don't want to ignore it and have her keep gaining and gaining. DH eats ALOT. He comes home from work and has about a dozen peanut butter cracker sandwiches and half a bottle of coke but he works outside all day and he doesn't have a weight problem. He will give her anything she asks for so I know part of the problem is that he has to get on board with me and agree not to give in to her when she asks for donuts on the weekends and dessert every night. I told her she can have frozen yogurt every other night but it's hard because he and his son sit there eating literally piles of candy and cookies right in front of her. I've learned not to let it bother me anymore and just leave the room when they haul out the dessert but she's only 7 and it's harder for her. The other night I gave her a nectarine while they were shovellng in Hershey kisses and I was like WTH? ![]() I was chubby myself from age 10 to about 14 and then my mom took me to Lean Line (anyone remember them?) and I lost 20 pounds the summer after 8th grade and kept it off. I don't want her to go through the pain of being teased for being the chubby kid. Am I being too sensitive?? This has been bothering me for a while and I just don't know what to do. |

Laura:
This is the worst of all parenting I think! Having been normal until I was 7, that is when I started to pack it on myself. I think your daughter is still too young to have the convo about weight and make sense. First and foremost you have to talk to your husband and get his support, this is hard since he is one of those skinny guys like Tony that never had to think about what he was eating. Your daughter will do what Daddy does, if he comes home and eats cookies she is going to want them if he comes home and sits downs and talks to her while he peels a peach or apple with her that is awesome. At 7 I would think she has an early bedtime, maybe stress to wait to eat the junk til she is in bed. I tell Bobby like it is but he is a boy, he is older and like way too mature for his years, I tell him you watched me struggle my whole life, you watched your Dad struggle with his weight, genes are not on your side!!! Kids want to eat junk it is the way it is nowadays all we can do is try to replace the junk as much as possible, let it be a treat with grandparents or something, and try to set a good example. Not having food in the house is the easiest thing, maybe you have hubby hide things if need be. It is so hard for girls, kids are so cruel and it is so hard being the chubby girl! I dont have answers but I would say start with hubby and all the junk food, that might help, and maybe if you think your daughter can handle it, tell her your story how you gained weight and now how you struggle, how you love her and never want her to go through it, kids are smart they get the drift! Hugs hun!!! Not an easy task!
