Time passes so quickly. It's now been two weeks since my competition. Those first few days following were a challenge, no doubt about it. I found that I had to summon ALL the strength within my mind, soul and body to restore a sense of balance within me.

Mission accomplished.

I have eaten very clean this week, and I've only tracked food one day. I've allowed myself to have things that were off limits during my prep, clean things, but off-limit things. My body has quit rebelling. The storm has finally quieted down.

I decided to weigh this morning, just to see how much damage I had left to overcome. Only 5 lbs over competition weight. Success!

Loving a new treat I discovered this week. Must share. Dannon plain yogurt, partially drained, with 2 Tbs of chocolate casein and a bit of s/f caramel Davinci's syrup. It's OH SO THICK AND CREAMY. Tastes just like icecream, but without the "poisons." YummmmmmmmmEEE!

Gonna do some cardio this morning. It's that time. Better get at it.

So glad it's Friday.

Most certainly!

(As you can see, shortly after changing into street clothes...? I didn't waste time!)

Lean---skinny---- she looks freaking small, LOL Its hard to believe all those muscles are under there!!!

Pilates- OMG I am in pain, that is no joke, total core and abs, my stomach is hurting already!!! Tonight was the first class, a bunch of peeps came late so that was good maybe they will keep offering it since she had a good turnout, it was a workout, like yoga has a few hard moments, but I am never sweaty or anything, this I was panting like dog and sweating like crazy, a good thing I think! And I thought it was never going to end it was like an hour and 15 minutes, I was like geez lady I am dying here, the instructor was really cool and made it fun though.

Emailed my trainer today and told her my game plan, she said she is fully behind me, she thought I ate too little, and she said I do think I lift heavy I am unclear what lifting heavy means, she said like the last set I am struggling to get the last few done, do you girls think that is correct, she has me do 15 reps, 3 sets--- should I try to do heavier and less reps? Usually the first set I get through, then the second I am feeling it, and the third the last few like 10-15 are just bearing it out???

heavy is relative to ea person.. but normally heavy is lower reps/wt vs higher reps/wt. If you lift lower reps, the wt goes up and vice versa.

Mornin', you guys.

Thanks, Amber, on the pic (I think?) ... but I gotta admit, I do prefer the word "lean" over "skinny." There IS a difference. But I know that you meant that in a good way ... ?

There is a girl who trains at our gym, and SHE is skinny. Okay, so she has a bit of definition in her arms. But when she turns sideways, she pretty much disappears. This has been a gradual thing, getting skinnier and skinner the last few months. I'm friends with her, so I bravely confronted her and told her outright: "Do you realize how SKINNY you are? Do you WANT to be this skinny? Really?" She has ZERO curves, and she's just boney and angular all over. Not good. I'm very concerned about her. Seriously. I've watched her train. She sort of "trains at it." If you wanna call it that. Cardio bunny for the most part. Never see her eat. Much. I won't let up on her...I am VERY worried about where she's headed.

Thanks, Ileen.

As for the lifting heavy thing, I agree with Ileen on the approach. I never do the same number of reps, nor the same number of sets. I change my program up ALL the time. For instance, I trained after work yesterday and I did pyramids on the leg press and leg extensions. As the weight moved up, the reps moved down. By that last set, I can usu do no more than 6 reps.

Not saying that lifting to failure at 15 reps x 3 sets is WRONG or ineffective, because it has its place. But I'd not train that way for every workout, every exercise, every muscle group. KWIM?

Glad you liked the Pilates. I've done them in the past. I'm a Callanetics addict, which is very similar. My heart remains true to Callanetics. It seems so easy, yet it's not, and yes, you DO work up a sweat with Callanetics, and you feel its effects almost immediately. Callanetics keeps me limber and loose, pain-free, and promotes better rest/sleep.

My plan today includes shopping for groceries, making returns, running errands, planning meals, making Dirt Balls for my son for Thanksgiving (I can make & freeze them), training at the gym, hopefully a run, and some house cleaning.

I have drug out some holiday music, favorite classic instrumental CD's that I've bought over the years. I look forward to listening to my music and smelling yummy candles as I try to get things accomplished around the house today. So relaxing and promotes the "happy" in me.

Speaking of music, a tech guy stopped by my office last week to install a piece of equipment that we need in our offices, and upon his arrival to my office, he says, "AllllRIGHT. We got another smooth jazz fan, do we?" Our conversation ensued about our mutual love for smooth jazz, and how bummed we both are that there are ZERO smooth jazz radio stations in our area. So we both rely on CD's and downloads pretty much, unless we are able to listen to Pandora -- which is blocked when I'm at the office. It's nice to meet other people who share my love for jazz. The new Boney James CD is on my Christmas Wish List.

T- of course it was a compliment!!! You are lean and ripped!! But you do look tiny is street clothes!!! LOL

We have a girl at my gym too that is so skinny, I am worried she has a problem! My cousin almost died of anorexia when we were 14, she was the first anoretic patient at our local hospital she ended up going to Philadlephia Children s Hopsital, she was 63 pounds the day she was transferred, losing hair and teeth, she could barely walk, it lead to her fertility problems, but she has 2 beautiful kids now and is healthy! It is a terrible disease and like when I see this girl I just want to talk to her but I dont know her. But she could barely be 80 pounds!!!

Feel like I was punched in the gut this morning, loving that pilates!!! That is no joke!!!

The trainer workouts are so different every time, I really want to get more focused on getting my arms defined and stuff, she throws in so many different mat exercises lots of pylometrics and stuff I hate that, LOL But she likes to get my heart rate up and then go lift then back to some terrible jumping thing, I will be curious to see her plan on Monday, I might add an extra session with her that would be 3x week with her, she definitely pushes me! I hate spending the extra money, but overall its the best money I spend! And remember I am still fat, you girls are already ripped out! LOL Fat burning-I got plenty to burn and spare!!!! The scale is not my friend, I am not sure what is going on, I have worked out harder than ever, so I am avoiding it and sticking to the plan!! And Thanksgiving will not be a carb fest for me, I am making LC and SF things and avoiding the crap!!!!

My program doesnt change week to week at all.. in fact ive done some for almost 4 months. biofeed from your body determines what changes it. The whole muscle confusion thing is a much 'discussed' subject. We train in all rep ranges, 4 days a week so it covers doing what some do changing ea work out.

Just saw one of those 'skinny' gals at the gym this.. sad! AND she's a spin trainer

I'd rather look like this (from this am)

Reminded today of people who have left lasting, loving impressions in my life.

It’s something about this season that ushers forth inescapable memories, speaking to me in a kaleidoscope of images…
a longing that is deep within my heart.

Closing my eyes, I summon cherished pieces of my past.

Hoping everyone is blessed by this beautiful season of thanksgiving.

This will be a short work week for me, making the drive in only on Monday and Tuesday, taking Wed through Friday off. I will be working some on those days anyway on transcripts, but as long as I have my laptop with me, which I always do, then it won't be necessary to make it to the office while getting those done. This will give me more time to do other things, enjoy the holiday, decorate, cook, chillax -- AND get some work done.

I woke up this morning down another pound from last week, so now only four pounds heavier than my weight the day I left for my competition. And that's after eating at a harvest potluck dinner at my church last night, and sneaking little bites of normally forbidden food. Limited little bites, but nonetheless. One of my girlfriends I hadn't seen for a while chatted with me at the dinner briefly, and her first comment as she walked up to me was, "Hey, girl! Can I feel your arms? I just gotta do this." She was very complimentary to the changes that have taken place since she'd last seen me, and was asking me how I manage to stay so fit at my age. Made me feel good. I did some elliptical cardio after I got home last night, along with a few sets of pushups, weighted ab work, and three sets of supine crossover tricep extensions -- my mini training-at-home workout.

Today I'll be at the gym after work, and I'm sure my son will want to go along with me. I've taught him several things, and he's catching on pretty quickly. At some point he's going to need the advice/supervision of a trainer to dial in on specific training to ready him for his upcoming track season. Speed, agility, endurance. Lots of plyo will be involved with that, something I can't be of any assistance on.

I have a stack of recipes I wanna prepare for Thanksgiving -- an unrealistic stack of recipes. Maybe if I were cooking for our whole neighborhood? That won't work out, since most of my neighbors are leaving (or have left) town for Thanksgiving, some to South Carolina, some to Connecticut, some to Pennsylvania. And even though my sons can put away a lot of food, trying to cook and then TRANSPORT "over the river and through the woods" all the food I'd LIKE to prepare, just won't be that easy. Besides, my biggest eater in the family (middle son) is trying to slim down for HIS upcoming track season, and he's eating very health conscious right now; and my oldest son doesn't NEED the coaxing or excuse to eat, since his appetite is normally off the charts and is working to his disadvantage.

But I DO LOVE to cook. And bake. And be creative in the kitchen.

I was able to prepare my youngest son's dirt balls w/o temptation to sample. But on Thanksgiving Day, I will allow myself a few indulgences, selectively chosen and hopefully with restraint.

I've discovered a new concoction that is yummy with a cup of coffee. I don't even know what to call it.

1 Tbs flax
1/2 Tbs coconut oil
1 Tbs powdered PB
1 tsp s/f Davinci's (caramel)

It makes a substitute "healthier" kind of peanut butter, if you will, and it's just enough to hit the spot. It gives me energy and satiety and I feel like I've had something illegal -- that yummy.

Rain on tap for today...the hunters won't like that a bit. I don't much care, since I'm not a hunter, and I won't be traveling. I would like to go for a run this morning, and at the moment the rain has stopped. Might give it a go. A little rain never hurt anyone anyway.

T- sounds like a good week ahead!!! I am ready for the holidays too, I love being with family and the kids, I am missing my son, he is with his Dad in Williamsburg, so I will focus on the nieces and nephews, I called the girls and told them to bring the strollers so I can take them for a walk after dinner!!! Playing with them outside hopefully is good exercise, LOL

Pylo work- ughghg my trainer is son into that stuff I hate it, but it does wear you out and build endurance and much more agility, I am not particurally graceful and I cant belive how much better I have gotten with that!

Feeling your arms, that has to be a great compliment, I am always saying that to my trainer, let me see this, or that!!!

Enjoy your holiday and your week, and days off, you deserve it!!! I am making LC items for Thanksgiving and going to try to reign it in!!! I am starting on the BFFM type plan that the fitness gal sent me, I was 205 this morning, considering I was as high as 211 this week after gross strays I am glad, I am hoping it will work, back to being a slave to ****** and making sure the percentages are exactly right! Luckily Thursday is a high day! I am going to watch the fat and focus on Mr. Turkey which is my fav anyway!

T i bet you can bake or cook something for a local shelter or pantry. Im sure they'd love something that you have put so much of yourself into.

Glad you are going to have some nice downtime, even if some of it is spent working.. at home at least your surrounded by comforts.

Our thanksgiving will be celebrated with 30 members of our family (all local). Always a huge get together and a blast. food, omgosh!

Amber, it would be great if you had some kind of a plan/spread sheet you can refer to and not have to punch numbers all the time. is your trainer not qualified to do a food plan?

My trainer is admittedly not a food person, she is an exercise nut, and she is always saying she has to take some nutritional classes, one of those naturally thin girls, you would think more people would be talking to her about weight loss, but like she said, many people hire a trainer and then disappear, and don't want to even exercise and come to the gym on a regular basis. She said I cant tell you how many people just cant stick with things. That is why she and I are talking about me getting the nutritional counseling and her doing the exercise, we get along well and the owner of the gym is behind us starting a weight loss class, but like I said I have to get to a good weight, I hate fat trainers and class teachers, LOL so I can't give counseling being fat until I get my own issues fixed!

Once I thought to go look back in ******, duh---- it wasn't so bad, I just want to try to be extra careful and stick to everything as best as I can with no deviation and see if I can really eat they way she says and lose! I am looking forward to seeing the new workouts my trainer is working on tonight.

My gym is not really fancy, and we don't really have a lot of physique or body builder competitors, now the guy in Lancaster that does the boot camp workouts, he is the one that trains the girls for the Tri Fitness and competitions, but my gym is cheap and only 2 miles from my house so I get there, and my trainer is $15/session which is way cheaper than like Tony's gym where he belongs is $40 a session, I would be broke! So I make the best of it, my trainer pushes me to do things I wouldn't do on my own so I know it will help, I need to get back my will power of steel I had going last year, I don't know what it is that makes you get complacent after some time, but that is what I am focusing on, how did I do it before for so long, I need to find that grit again. I think writing out my goals and stuff on paper was a good thing, I printed them out and I keep them posted around the house and office to remind myself, T-giving is my test, I am going to behave!!!!

Hey Ladies!
I have missed you! I was busy the last part of last week and out of town this weekend. I too am working on my eating plan like you Amber. I am trying to figure out how to do a plan with T's suggestions about 50-75 carbs. At 190 I need 1900 calories/day for weight loss right? And incorporating good carbs into this and lean protein....
Twyla and Ileen both of you have an awesome body. With the last few weeks that I have been going to the gym, I have noticed some extremelyskinny girls and then some fit girls... The fit girls look so much better. Since I am in a college town, the gym has a lot of fit and skinny girls!!! I am a little intimidated to do the free weight, but I decided the other day, to just go ahead and do some free weights. I truly felt like I had a good workout! As I was doing them, I remembered what you said Twyla, to make every rep count! I could hear all of your voices in my head!! (that may not be such a good thing.. but oh well!)

Kristi- that is awesome!!!!! I hid at the gym then slowly when I felt comfortable branched out, now I don't care who sees what, what they should see is me trying my best, and that is what it is all about!

Well use ****** and try to space your meals apart! That does get your engine running rather than eating 3 large meals or skipping meals! One thing I do notice doing that is I feel hungry when it is time to eat, so I feel like something is being burned in there, and burn is good!!!!
