Mornin' Jan...

Thinking of you, wondering what you're up to these days. Thanks for your post in my journal. I'm getting by one day at a time. Can't seem to shake the grief over my dog, DH is struggling as well and it's doubly painful to see him take it so hard.

Hi Friends!

Yes, I am still alive! My new job is excellent and overwhelming at the same time. I go to work and I sleep. That's about it!!! And, even with very long days, I can't get my work done...and I'd like to sleep more. LOL!

What's going on weight wise? I gained about 10-15 pounds this summer, and I eat more than 2000 calories a day. I could not deal with being hungry and the stress of my job at the same time. I hang out at about 148 which is not ok with me, but i will take care of the extra chubs around my middle in due time. I still weigh in morning and night. I still adjust my food intake according to the scale. If I'm up a little I eat a little less. I'm not using ****** any more.

What's going on diet wise? I eat quite low carb almost always. I eat too many nuts (thus the weight gain) because they are relatively LC and very easy. I eat meat, eggs cooked in butter and a little cheese. I have HWC in my coffee. I eat some veges. I don't eat sauces/gravies/dressings on food, but I also don't freak if I get a little teriyaki at a restaurant. I rarely have cravings any more, and if I do I have a bite of something. It doesn't usually taste as good as I had imagined. I am conscious of portion size but I'm not really restricting the amount of chicken, beef or fish I'm eating.

What's going on exercise wise? I am pretty active, but most irregular in getting real exercise in. (thus the soft in the middle chubs) Shapewear is my friend!

What's going on health wise? I just got my labs back and everything is just fine! I am thrilled! I don't need to talk about my food choices with anyone, but I do smile inside when I hear people talking about the dangers of fat intake.

I am very (very) slowly coming to believe that I will have to eat LC forever to keep the diabetes away. It's funny how I have been reading that here on LCF for a couple of years but only now, a year into "maintenance" am I coming to terms with it. (and I'm not THERE yet. LOLOL!) My blood sugars are totally normal these days...but I eat less than 50 g of carbohydrates a day. I have a colleague who eats cereal for breakfast then takes an extra metformin. Then she has a sandwich with fries for lunch and pasta or Chinese for dinner, and then takes extra pills with BS spikes. I do not want to manage that way. No fries for me. (I don't even want to find out if they taste good)

I do try to read what my friends have been up to but sadly I haven't been commenting much at all recently. (work/sleep/work/sleep) I hope that all of you are doing extremely well. Maybe it's time to beef up our conversations as the season of foodie holidays is quickly approaching! Let's chat!

Thank you all or your support and for checking in on me. I am well.

Jan

Watching Biggest Loser...and KNOWING that those people are JUST like I was such a short time ago. Such a nasty, nasty addiction, carbs I'm talking about.

It's a reality check for me to watch the contestants struggle with their obesity- poor esteem and poor health (tho they DO manage to work out like crazy!). I don't want to be there again!! Ever!!

Sleep sounds wonderful!

I hope everyone is well

yesterday i was talking with a man who was telling me about his newly diagnosed uncontrolled diabetes - 4 hospital stays in 4 months, organ damage, being to ill to work, a succession of medications to find something effective - he doesn't look well, and doesn't feel well. he's joined a diabetes group at a local hospital and is getting medical care. the rub for me? he's still eating carbs. he talked about whole wheat pasta and cutting back on bread and said that unlike some, he can have candy. ???? This man is an acquaintance so I just responded that we are all different and that I couldn't eat those things.

I'm frustrated with the medical advice that people are getting! I know that I was told that I could eat a lot more carbs than I do. A lot! And I can't.

Ive read many times that a Doctors' "nutritional" education is minimal. People need to educate themselves! I have a friend who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about a year and a half ago. She looks terrible and I've given her a couple of books to read regarding low carb eating, diabetes and weight loss with exercise. She's not interested. At all.

Jan Jan Jan! Hi Hi Hi!

How are you? Wanna talk food? Turkey? Bone-in Ham? What's for Thanksgiving Dinner?

I am totally squirel-y right now, taking prednisone for asthma symptoms...can't sleep at all! I was reading back over the last couple of pages...are things settling down at work? Have you been able to get more sleep?

I was looking at your stats and I don't think I knew how far you've come! 20 lbs shy of 300 lbs at the start and here you are! WOW! What was your motivating factor? Was it pre-diabetes or full on diabetes? How long have you been low-carbing? If I'm asking too many questions just ignore me, I'm hyper.

Thanks for the sweet comments in my journal. It means so much that you check in on me!

I am ready to "work for me" again! It's taken a really long time to get back in the "mode". My weight has "creeped". I have a slinky black dress that I want to wear with confidence at Christmastime. Superficial much? Whatever it takes!

11/28: 152.6, 1000 cals, 1.7 g carbs, 25 mins exercise, no diet soda
11/29: 152.2
11/30:
12/01:
12/02:
12/03:
12:04:

goals for today - increase water/decrease diet soda, exercise 20-30 minutes

I'm interested in seeing the effects of taking out diet soda are. Recently I've been drinking quite a lot. Hopefully, it will be an easy transition back to water and tea.

Hi Jan! I've found that diet soda makes a big difference in my weight loss...I do better without it. That said, sometimes I just NEED it and so I drink it if I want.

I'm off the prednisone, which made it nearly impossible to down day at all. I had my first real down day yesterday in ten days and mentally I feel better this morning for having made it through. I want to stay on the straight and narrow until Christmas Eve/Christmas so I'll take your little challenge!

I'm happy you're dedicating some energy to your self! How's the job? Getting any less stressful?

goals for today - increase water/no diet soda, exercise 20-30 minutes, grocery shop "clean" - for right now, i'm eating only meats and eggs. cutting out the nuts that i ate all summer is really only hard if i can see them! lol! i don't crave nuts right now and it's so easy to overeat, that i'm not going to buy these convenience foods today. i hope my faves are not on sale. a bargain increases the temptation. lol.

my carb count is a little deceptive because i do use sf chewing gum.

one of my biggest long term goals is to get back into the habit of regular exercise. i feel better after just 2 days of moderate/light workouts. i need to get connected with the nice people on lcf too.

yay blonde! let's make this mini challenge personal. what do you plan to accomplish in December?

oh, i have another goal...to learn how to post a pic here...cause i am going to wear that black dress (in public ) well, maybe, cause i actually bought it without trying it on.

hey Christine, Stacy, Danielle...and other Friends, Blonde and I are gearing up to conquer Christmas. Want to play?

My plan is simplicity itself! M-W-F downdays with a medium day on one of the weekend days. I'd like to get back to 195 and stay there by the end of December. That's 4lbs below where I am right now. I'd like to buy another size 16 jeans and be confident that I can let the last of my 18's go away without fear of needing them again.

Down day today!!

goals for today: keep on with the water and exercise. pack a lunch so I don't grab something (like a breaded chicken patty)

I only bought meat at the store and enjoyed salmon for dinner. I also made broth, and want to do that more, and learn more about the nutrients.

another goal is to "measure"...but I don't wanna I know it's the lack of exercise rather than exclusively my diet that has caused the bulgy waist. I have a lot, a lot of extra skin...and it is true that it looked a lot, a lot better with muscle underneath. I can't wait to see/feel that again :-)

It's Dec 1 and I'm already excited about the holidays! I won't get much if any time off this year. Plenty of celebrating to do tho!

Happy Thursday all!

take care all!

interesting...

1 large glazed doughnut = about 300 cals, 40 g. carbs and 5 g. protein

1 large serving of fish = about 300 cals, 0 g. carbs and 50 g. protein

I love fish! Yum! Salmon, tilapia, halibut. Mmm. I'm hungry, no food yet today!
