Very happy I was able to get around to some yoga tonight. Back's still not fully healed, but it's more of a mild inflammation awareness back there than tangible pain. I laid off the belt stretches, which tend to be the most extreme stretches I do...

A thought just came to me--Since fat enters the body via the lymphatic system, not the blood/circulatory system (chylomicrons enter the lymphatic system first, then eventually enter the blood circulation via lymph nodes), and the lymphatic system can't pump itself but relies on muscle work and movement, is it possible that a sedentary lifestyle effectively enforces a low-fat/calorie restricted metabolic state much of the time? Followed by occasional bursts of fat ingress when you move around...
Like much of the fat we eat literally pools up in the lymphatic system, maybe around our gut, waiting to catch a break and move through into our bloodstream? Might explain how my waist gained 1" in a week from no yoga, and since yoga is one of the best things for getting the lymph moving, maybe it's the perfect adjunct to a high-fat diet. I think getting the fat into the body where it can be used is crucial to making the diet work by keeping metabolism up. Last edited by spirilis; 02-06-2012 at 07:26 PM.. |

Major carb cheat yesterday, 3 large slices of pizza lol... Had an urge to wake up my metabolism with some carbs, but I don't think I'm going to be using wheat for that again. 3 hours later was nauseous, had indigestion, and was so tired I had to go to bed at 8PM. Wheat's some nasty ****. |

Ok awesome link I need to save here for more study-- Obesity starts in the brain*/* Getting Stronger
Got it from "CarbSane"'s twitter feed funny enough... I definitely have the intra-abdominal obesity, which this guy suggests Hypothalamic IR, and using shorter-chain saturated fats is the better idea. Hmm. Coconut oil instead of butter? Worth a try. Maybe a few more carbs to keep FFAs in check. |

Hmm, my abdominal fat is definitely subcutaneous but I still match the profile of the "intra-abdominal" guy. Definitely adding fish oil to my regime, might consider periodic additions of starch (while removing fat proportionately).

Based on lots of reading, I feel that a good experiment would be to replace (not add, replace) some of my fat calories with 2 cups of rice, every other day -- to jump out of ketosis for a day, then run on ketosis a day, then jump back out, back in, etc.
I think it's a worthwhile experiment. I'm going to work out the logistics and start tomorrow. |

Well today I tried replacing lunch with 2cup rice, no hunger 3 hr later but it did make me kinda cranky and off-feeling. Not that bad though. Maybe it's just a quick adjustment period.

I'll tell you one thing, the recent carb-cycling has left me with even less of an appetite (now 3 days into it...) and a markedly improved libido. LOL.
Ate the 2nd half of my omelette+goat cheese breakfast a half hour ago with the 2 cups of rice, and the combination filled me up pretty good! Was very very full when I was done. Got gluten-free soy sauce to go along with it too. |

I think a lot of this idea of "adding starch" back into my diet could be summed up by a simple idea--That carb count, and the insulin reduction it entails, is actually a bell-curve balancing point where high carb is bad (too high of insulin, fat gain from appetite caloric load in the context of insulin spikes, etc) but very-low-carb is bad too--due to the unchecked Free Fatty Acids flowing out of your fat cells, which as I've come to learn, causes an insulin response all by themselves in addition to the Insulin Resistance they produce in your tissues.
Seems to me that weight loss is about finding a balance--the center of the bell curve--between low carb and high carb, keeping carbs high enough that Free Fatty Acid release happens at a steady/manageable rate, but low enough that we don't get sustained insulin spikes all day long defeating it (storing fat, stimulating appetite). And this works into balancing the thyroid function too--keeping carbs *just* high enough to avoid the thyroid-slowing effect of long-term ketosis. Last edited by spirilis; 02-13-2012 at 06:01 PM.. |

Did a bike ride tonight, not too long but lots of hills. I can see the ketogenic advantage a bit--muscle soreness happened but it didn't result in rapid heartbeat and exhaustion, so long as I breathed deep through it. Very nice! I guess that was the Cori cycle happening? Maybe not since I wasn't doing that long but still.

Yesterday was a serious 2hr bicycle ride and rice&beans carb cheat evening so I'm not too surprised. |

ohhhhh Pork tenderloin you are some tasty meat.... first time cooking it tonight, wrapped the two pieces together in bacon (used almost a whole pack) and tied each bacon strip with butcher's twine, grilled over charcoal at ~350F dome temp until the thermo stuck in the end read 150F. My wife roasted some Ratatouille to go with it, and that was a worthy meal after a COLD 13mi bicycle ride today (C&O canal towpath, which is tamped gravel/dirt so kinda hard to go fast).
Some days are just perfect! Last edited by spirilis; 02-20-2012 at 03:42 PM.. |

Ehh well, here's an answer to why my waistline is probably expanding: Why Is My Waist Getting Bigger Now That I'm Exercising? | LIVESTRONG.COM
Abdominal muscles get plenty of use with that Crank-Forward bicycle of mine, so I shouldn't be too surprised. Not a bad thing! |
