I think caffeine might've helped me earlier this morning, note to self. I have some caffeine pill/supplements from the same company I get my vitamins, probably should try one next time...

OTOH, coffee with Caramel davinci syrup + HWC is EPIC. I mean, this at least matches any fru-fru stuff I've got from the coffee shops nearby. Now I really do have no reason to go out for coffee when I'm at work!

Cutting my fast short today as planned, at 12PM I'll have sausage & peppers for lunch along with some chocolate cake my wife made (made with stevia & almond meal predominantly, I think... forget which recipe she used but it's pretty good albeit a little dry)

Ketosis breath isn't as profound as it was last time, but I had a lot of issues with whatever I ate yesterday that lasted throughout the evening so I dunno maybe that set my metabolism off somehow. I can definitely deal with 18 hour fasts though, easy as pie!

I will have to try davinci. I put Toriani caramel in my iced coffee a few days ago and had to dump it out.

Dunno, I've never tried the syrup without HWC though. The davinci syrups have a very complex aroma, not just your standard flavor but one of those rich complexes of aromas that dominates the whole thing. Tastes great in coffee w/ cream though!

Yeah, that's what I couldn't understand. I always use HWC in my iced coffee, so I thought the flavors would be ideal. Now I wonder if it's just a brand issue or what.

man I got some kind of flu or something... haven't been fasting since yesterday lunchtime when I broke it, so I had dinner and breakfast and everything but I feel kinda dizzy/light-sensitivity/hard to concentrate, slightly nauseous. I've had plenty to eat today, bacon/eggs this morning then BBQ for lunch, then some pesto chicken salad for dinner (decided not to fast this weekend). Too tired to do anything, even though I got plenty of sleep last night. I might just be coming down with a legitimate flu or something, not necessarily metabolism-related.

Probably gonna skip breakfast tomorrow, that'll extend the nighttime fast a bit. I am definitely seeing a marked difference though in how my metabolism refuses to tank now after I eat... that is good.

Welp, at the recommendation of an old coworker I got a copy of Tim Ferriss's 4-Hour Body book. After reading through his Slow-Carb plan a bit, I am convinced it's time to use some of his theory as it's way more enticing than intermittent fasting (which I just can't stick with... failed to do so 3 times now lol)

1. The cheat day. He states it's important to have an all-out binge, ridiculous day of eating all kinds of crazy **** although he does offer some optimization tips such as eating a high-protein breakfast (basically an Atkins breakfast, to get your body started "right") before binging on carbs and delicious **** for the day. The rationale is to keep your thyroid from thinking it can get away with down-regulating your metabolism (I often wonder if that's the reason for half the hypothyroid stories I hear on LCF???) which will defeat you in the long run.
2. Cut out dairy, except on Cheat Day and cream can be used sparingly. He mentions a reference where dairy (probably the protein, I've heard something about this mentioned on Hyperlipid's blog) is more insulinogenic than even bread. That could very well be one of my biggest problems.
3. Cut out Aspartame, Acesulfame-K, Splenda. I forgot what his rationale was for aspartame but Acesulfame-K has an insulinogenic response and I think ****s with your metabolism somehow. I might dig deeper to find the details on this. Splenda was villified because it's been known to kill off some of the good gut bacteria? I haven't seen Stevia mentioned, and frankly I think Stevia is the only one that's truly safe to use. So that's how I'm gonna handle it.

So there ya go, my new plan alteration. Tim recommends you eat out as much as you can on Cheat Day to avoid having leftovers hanging around the house for the following day... Sounds good to me!

Side note- Decided to abort my fast tonight with 2 bowls of ice cream and 3 bowls of some peanut butter puffy cereal with whole milk. That not only filled me up, but I'm still too stuffed to think about food. It gave me quite a metabolic jolt too. I am very happy to see that I've at least fixed my metabolism to a certain extent! Tomorrow's goal will be to return to my normal ketogenic state lol... Also not yet sure which day of the week I want to make my cheat day, Saturday is the typical one but I dunno. Tim also recommends doing short high-intensity interval training before & after meals, supposedly it helps short-term improve insulin sensitivity (wakes up the GLUT-4 receptors in muscle cells?) for instance Air Squats.

Starting today with my wife's homemade quiche and 2 hardboiled eggs w/ darjeeling tea, followed by some milk chocolate bwahahaha... today will be cheat day. Lunch we've decided to go for some decadent pancakes.

Breakfast was freaking awesome, up until the scone with lemon curd I had; almost right away when the scone settled in my stomach, something didn't feel right. I must be really sensitive to bread/gluten!

holy shizzahht, I can't believe how full I am after a stack 4-tall of cinn-a-stack pancakes from IHOP. And how non-tired I feel after eating them too!

Man my metabolism's off the charts today... Just checked my BP-
131/91 heart rate 91bpm, that was resting for a while. (My BP's always been high-normal like that, used to be on meds but stopped after a while and my 2nd doc later agreed they weren't really necessary) What's interesting is the pulse-pressure, i.e. the difference between the numbers, is 40; quite normal, whereas in the past it's usually been 45-50 or so, which is usually indicative of hardened arteries or potential heart disease (although it can also indicate extra muscle mass, from what I read, so who knows).

But I ended up taking a short walk that turned into a long walk that ended in a jog, at which point I realized how out-of-shape I am! Time to get back to the yoga and start adding some jogging to my regimen... those back & hip muscles are tragically weak right now.

So let's see what all I've eaten today-
Breakfast:
2 hardboiled eggs
2 cups darjeeling tea w/ HWC
1 scone with lemon curd spread on top
1 whole bar of Green&Black's almond milk chocolate (2.5 servings)

Mid-morning snack:
10 pirouline sticks, stale (lol had to polish them off)
1 slice key lime pie
1 small square of low-carb quiche

Lunch:
IHOP - Cinn-A-Stack pancakes, 4 of them, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of 2% milk

More snacks:
1 can Zevia soda (no carbs/calories, wanted to try it as an alternative to all the aspartame-sweetened crap we have in the house right now)
1/3 a whole bar (so probably 1 serving) of Green&Black Peanut milk chocolate
2 bowls of some crunchy peanut buttery cereal w/ whole milk
2 more pieces of quiche

Another piece of key lime pie, chased down with some whole milk

Umm, not exactly hungry... going to a drive-in movie tonight, might get some snacks there if I am hungry. If not, then this is it! I weighed myself a couple hours ago and I was 243.6, so I'm expecting I'll be up maybe 3 pounds tomorrow morning? What will be interesting is how revved-up I am. I might have to look into getting a thermometer so I can do the metabolic checks they do for thyroid patients, might be an interesting addition to my data logging? I think they check it in the morning too, not sure.

Ended up having some nachos & cheese and a slice of pepperoni pizza (rather nasty pizza, unfortunately) and that was it.

well, in the spirit of upping my carbs a little (after some reading up suggesting that carb count alone can have a substantial bias on your thyroid function) I added 2 bowls of berries to my dinner, this time without cream (to remove dairy).

I gotta say, was expecting my weight to drop a little faster than this after the cheat day. I haven't done yoga in a while though, wonder what would happen if I did it...

Lol then again I need to remember, I've been doing long walks every evening and my leg muscles get a tad swolen with all the work... so it's probably just muscle water weight. Gotta do that yoga darnit!

Breakfast was a 2-egg omelette (no cheese) with remainder of some beef sausage from last night. Ketone breath is raging superhero-style. Typically the ketone breath is hit or miss this time of the morning; maybe the dairy really was stalling me?

Still gotta say, since cutting out dairy my raging ketone breath re-establishes itself quickly in the morning after I eat breakfast & drive/ride to work. Before it would be very mild... now it's as strong as it smells when I wake up or am fasting.
