Managed to get through the last of the holiday parties without a problem. Fortunately, there was lots of good food available for me: Fresh mozzarella, marinated mushrooms, prosciutto and cream cheese, chicken and mushrooms, and red wine.

Saw lots of people who haven't seen me regularly for awhile, and they were shocked by my transformation (not to mention that I was wearing a seriously flattering outfit. That always helps! ). It was funny to hear their reactions, who said that he didn't want to sound "inappropriate," but "you look amazing."

Final round of baking today, then packing for our trip out of town (we leave tomorrow morning). I hope everyone has plans for a wonderful holiday weekend!

Oh. My. God. My body had no time to burn any fat as I slept last night as I was up every half hour with DS who was puking his brains out!!! We think it's food poisoning from lunch (beef tacos), poor kid!!! We're supposed to be leaving today for our weekend out of town. I think we still will, but wow. He is going to be wrecked. Right now is the first time that more than 30 minutes has passed since a puking episode (we're at 40!). I feel awful for him; I know how that is.

Anyway, planning to stay "on plan" as usual this weekend! Lots of meat and vegetables for me. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

I shouldn't even post this weight, given that it's the result of my having the dreaded stomach virus since Saturday night!!! Turns out DS didn't have food poisoning after all but instead had a virus, which he in turn gifted to me. Can I get a receipt because I'd like something else instead. This was horrible.

I've eaten and I'm rehydrated, so I think today's weight is valid.

The stomach virus, in one way, turned out to be a blessing in disguise. On Saturday, I -- the woman who has never once knowingly gone off plan -- ate a few cookies, just to see what would happen. I thought that since this is going to be my lifestyle from now until the end of time, I need to know what I can and cannot do, nutritionally speaking. Would a few cookies send me into a tailspin?

By the late afternoon, I was feeling absolutely horrible, and I thought: WOW. NO MORE COOKIES. EVER. I was amazed at how just a few cookies made me terribly nauseous, only to learn within a couple of hours that the culprit was the virus, not the cookies. HOWEVER, my mental assocation is now cookies = . Therefore, I don't think I'll be eating cookies again for a long, long time.

(Even just thinking of them now makes me a little )

I know I won't wake up on Friday to see 180, but I'm really happy with the 2010 progress. So close to my "unofficial" 2010 goal! I have been thinking about my fitness goals for 2011, and I think I established a reasonable timline:

170 by mid-February (my birthday!)
155 by Memorial Day

And then figure out the rest from there. That accounts for a slower loss rate as I inch closer to goal but is still enough to keep me focused and motivated. Here's to progress in the new year!!

You never know Christine, you may wake up on Friday and see 179....it could happen!

I'm so glad you're better. I wanted to ask you about goal setting, since I've never done it in my life.....is 5lbs a month reasonable or am I aiming to low (or high)? What do you think?

Thanks, Blonde!! I think 5 lbs/month is totally reasonable. I've been setting mine at 10/month only because I know I'm a fast loser and I also know that it will motivate me. You might think about how you'll feel working toward a goal: Will it make you think, "Oh, it's only X pounds, so I don't have to be overly focused" (that's totally me, which is why I set high goals); will a higher goal disourage you? Will a goal serve to motivate you or just make you feel bad? Since you haven't set goals previously, it's important to do this kind of thinking so that you don't end up sabotaging your progress! I know that I am very motivated by goals -- the higher they are, the more motivated I am. Therefore, I use that to my advantage as much a possible.

You know that it's reasonable to lose 1-2 lbs/week, so anywhere from 5-8 lbs seems totally doable from a weightloss view!

No appetite yesterday. I ended up eating one oz. of cheese, 4 oz. cashews, and 1/2 a salad, plus two big mugs of tea and some water. I just wasn't feeling food. I woke up today craving hard-boiled eggs, though, for some reason; they're in the pot at this moment!

I haven't worked out at all this week. I expect that when I go back next week, my body will be shocked. I am looking forward to getting into the gym. I have to say: I'm not as excited about Zumba. Maybe it's because the last time I went, I left early because it was the day after my terrible stomach attack and I wasn't feeling up to finishing the class. I don't know. But I hope I can find my motivation somewhere. It certainly wasn't under the Christmas tree!!

Maybe some new workout clothes are in order.

It's difficult to get the water in. Out running around, or even here at home, it's just not easy to do when I'm not on a regular schedule. I need to really focus on that this weekend.

Just ordered the new Taubes book, if for no other reason than to loan it out as needed! But really, I think it's a nice way to begin the year, making sure my head stays in the game. The hardcover is on Amazon for thirteen bucks!

New Year's Eve: No big plans here. We'll DS is headed over to his dad's for the weekend, so we'll just probably have a low-key evening at home, DH and me. I seriously doubt we could even stay up until midnight at this point!

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Thanks for the great advice on goals! I think the 5-8 is reasonable at this point. I don't really know if I'm a fast or a slow loser yet. 10 a month seems ambitious for me but 8 seems doable. If I shoot for 8 and only lose 5, that's still really good, right? Hope your new year is happy and peaceful. I'm excited for you to reach the 170's!

Woke up feeling really thirsty and with some congestion/sore throat. I really need to push some fluids this weekend!

Last night, DH and I went to Kohl's and Old Navy. I need jeans in a big way, and he needs some pants and pajama bottoms. I ended up not buying anything at Kohl's, but I did try on a pair of 12s, and they fit! I couldn't pull the trigger on them because of the butt-grommets (I have a thing about decorated butts!) plus the fact that they were big in the waist.

Here's my little pants-rant: Why is it that I can't find the appropriately proportioned jeans? Jeans that fit me in the hip/butt area will always, always, always be too big in the waist (I am shaped like an hourglass). I can't move down to a 10 yet because I know they won't fit my butt (but they'll probably be fine in the waist). The best-fitting pair of jeans I had were from Lane Bryant because they used "shape" sizing: I could buy the "curvy" size and they fit beautifully in the waist AND the hips/butt. Why can't other companies use shape sizing? I'm smaller now but I haven't changed shape, so I think clothing manufacturers should recognize variation! We aren't all built like boys!

So anyway, we went to Old Navy where I had zero patience for trying on jeans, so I just bought a skirt without trying it on. Size 12. Too big.

I cannot even remember buying anything below a 14 in recent history.

And now here is it January 1 (Happy New Year, btw!), and I am planning on hitting 170 by 2/15. Reasonable? I think so.

You are doing an awesome job! I have had the sore throat, headaches galore, coughing going on for a week. I had the week off and spent it mostly miserable. I hope yours passes faster.

I also have the same issues with jeans and probably could go down one more size if it were not for my hips and butt. one place that has decent curvy jeans is Ann Taylor Loft. They are about fifty a pair, not cheap but not horrible either. Watch for coupons and you could get a good price on them.

i think that Pants Rage is something we can all understand!!! I can only find low waisted styles in my size. They look ok, but...NOT butt...they fall down!!!

here's a chuckle for you (i know because my daughters were there and laughed out loud)...yesterday, at the beach, my pants actually fell to my knees. i had a long coat on but still...pants on the ground is NOT my best look :blush::blush:

Christine or Dawn, i recall that one of you was going to send me some curves...2011 is a good time to share!

Happy New Year! Jan

OMG Jan that is funny! Too bad your daughter didn't get that on camera. I would gladly send you some curves as I am sure christine would too. Trust me I have enough hips to share even when there is not this later of fat on them. I was born with that nice german body and am built like my grandmother but fortunately not quite as large.

Oh, how funny, Jan!!! Pants on the ground!!! You need a belt, lady! I don't need a belt, as I've got the good German stock as well, and my hips hold up my pants! But a huge gap in the waistband 'round back is SO NOT ATTRACTIVE! I'll package up some of this extra and send it on over for ya.....quite happily!

Dawn, I hope you're feeling better soon!! I can't believe that nasty stuff is still hanging on.

Happy New Year Christine! I love your pic, it reminds me a little of Murphy Brown!

Wow, the pants rant! I can now take my jeans off without unbuttoning them...that could be a precursor to "pants around the knees"...Jan you are funny!!

To be in a 12 is fabulous! Congratulations! It's been many years (like 20) since I was in a Lane Bryant 14, and I'm not even close to there for awhile...probably another 30 or so pounds.

Aw, thanks, Blonde! DS took that pic with my phone. He loves to play with the camera, so I end up with about a thousand random pics on there: close-ups of the cats, his army men, etc!

I'm beyond excited to be in a 12, especially when I think back to July......I was wearing a 20!

Won't be long for you, either, Miss Big Loser! You are doing so well; I hope you are proud!

Their jeans are the curvy line. I bought the ones called curvy boot. They sit a little too low in the hip for me but finding jeans that go a little higher are hard to find. I used to like one true fit by lee but I dint think they make them anymore. I have a 11/12 that I have been wearing. They are a little big but not horribly seeing I have the hips to hold them up.

"seeing I have the hips to hold them up"

bragger...just shameless flaunting

This conversation is making me want to go find some great fitting jeans! For awhile I liked Levi's Simply Slimming that I got at Sears, but they don't have my size now.

Want to discuss pants that fit in the dressing room and for the first 10 minutes you wear them....then bag, sag and bunch? Nah, I didn't think so

I have an even harder time finding blouses btw. The criteria are: 1. must cover arm wings, 2. must be long enough to cover what low rise pants (previous rant) expose during movement, 3. must be modest at neckline during movement, 4. nothing with scratchy, flimsy or foo foo fabric, and 5. i don't iron. i don't think asking for shirts that cover me and that are comfortable, easy to take care of and attractive is too much to ask!!!

Pants are so hard to find without too much stretch in them anymore. I think that I read on here somewhere that there are still some Levi's that you can buy that don't have all that stretch in them and will stay the same way they were when you put them on.

I have a lot of the same criteria with shirts as you: #1 - not an issue as I don't wear short sleeves that often around here; #2 Right there with you; #3 I l don't like anything too constricting in the neckline, scoop or v necks I like best. I really do not like collared shirts #4 & 5 COMPLETELY agree!
