Popping in to say Christine! You're such a youngster I remember my 40's well. The 5k sounds like a cool plan but running it, now that is another story. I know you will do great!

Have a good day!

Thanks, Maggie!

Blonde, I need to start training NOW.

No, seriously. It's nine weeks away, and I'll need at least that much time to get in shape!! The program is pretty much 3x/week, progressively adding more running. So week one might be 20 minutes each day: 4 minutes walking, 1 minute running x 4. The next week might shift to 3 walk, 2 run, and so on and so forth until I'm running 25-30 minutes at a clip.

I don't know. I am hoping that if I enter and PAY FOR a race, that will motivate me to keep going. We'll see!

I have now recruited 2 friends to join me for the 5k. I think that will keep me motivated. Even though we won't be able to train together, knowing that I need to show up on the day of the race to face them will keep me motivated. I will not be the one to drag the group down!!! I refuse!

I spontaneously did the first day of C25k after work. I think that's the best way for me; less thinking, more doing. I hadn't planned on doing it (was going to start Monday), but I was near the gym and figured, what the heck. Let me just go bang this out. I downloaded an excellent app for the program; it basically tells me when to walk and when to run. Day one was 5 minutes of warm-up, then 20 minutes of alternating 60 seconds running with 90 seconds walking, and then a 5-minute cool-down. I did it with no problem.

Funny thing about running: It's never my lungs that give out; I always feel like my legs aren't strong enough, and that's what makes me want to stop. But really, it's probably my brain that isn't strong enough. I have this persistent thought that "I can't do this." I need to master the mental game.

Eating is taking care of itself these days. Huge lunch yesterday, and no dinner. I even sat here in the face of DH and DS eating pizza last night and had no problem refusing it. I just wasn't hungry. Yesterday:

B: BPC
S: Coffee, hwc
L: Steak, broccoli, wedge salad

Have a great Saturday!

Christine I am in awe....truly. If your lungs can take it, you're already there! You just need to build some strength and stamina and that will come to you in your training. I'm am sooo rooting for you! I think I may have told you all this a long time ago, but sometimes I have this glorious dream that I'm running...for fun! It feels so marvelous and I think it must be a memory from my childhood when I ran everywhere. I can't wait for you to kick the 5k's butt!

Sorry I missed your birthday! Hope it was a good one!!!

You'll do great with your run, that's great that you've got others to do it with. I've thought the same things as you regarding the legs vs the lungs.. I spend the whole time telling myself I can't and I don't...geez, what would Jillian Michaels scream at me if she heard me!

Haha, I know, right? She would tell you to stop listening to your BRAIN.

Thanks for the encouragement, Blonde. I've taken some steps that I hope will force me to stick with it this time. We shall see.

Christine- that is awesome then in May you can do the 5K mud run with me Seriously running is 90% mental, it truly is, my biggest hurdle is I cant keep going and then I walk, and I think I cant run faster, but now with this coach she had me running at an 8.0 on the treadmill so I know I can, but do I do it myself??????NO!!!! The C25K works you have exactly 9 weeks, you will be amazed, so what if you have to walk a little during the run it is about finishing it, that is all that matters, but no other thing works better than that C25K when you do it faithfully!!!! Also dont forget to stretch after to keep yourself from tightening up, that is important! You are getting older now

Amber. Mud run, no thanks. Finished W1, D2 yesterday. Easy so far, but I made it halfway through the program last time, so I'm sure that's why. I am looking forward to actually finishing this time!

Made something amazing last night. After I baked some chicken, I threw the skin back in the oven. I originally tried broiling some skin a few weeks ago and that was a disaster. But baking it? Perfect. Hard, crispy little chicken crackers! Delicious.

Yesterday's food:

B: Coffee and Huevos Rancheros (more carbs than I'd usually eat, but worth it)
L: Coffee, hwc
D: About 1/2 breast of baked chicken, chicken crackers

Came in well under my calorie allotment for the day, plus I got a workout in (c25k). Here's to a good week, everyone!

I will start week 2 next week then we can do it together from afar, I need accountability too but nothing should motivate more than to run from my mother once I am living with her, LOL My knees are my problem of late I am most likely due for another surgery but we will see how it goes!

Thanks, Danielle!

Finally got to eat at 12:30. Big ol salad for me.....with bacon! It was tasty.

DH has been struggling with locating full fat Greek yogurt in the store (they usually have only one flavor. WHAT is with all of the low/no fat crap?!?! My god. It's insane! How can they advertise Greek Yogurt as Non-fat?? That's not really Greek yogurt, then, now is it??), so we bought some labne at he Lebanese store, and I added honey and bourbon vanilla for him.

I almost died when I tasted it. So good! Clearly I need to stay away from it given my issues with Greek yogurt (i.e. eating the whole thing in one sitting!), but if you can handle it, I highly recommend it! So tasty, and much cheaper than pre-packaged yogurt.

Good morning, ladies! Nice low-calorie days twice in a row and still up .4. Haha, whatever. Yesterday:

B: BPC
L: Salad with bacon
D: Nada

I think I might need to drop coffee from my diet soon, unfortunately. I was reading a lot about hormone regulation, and it might be doing me more harm than good. I'll cut back a bit and see what happens.

Hope everyone has a happy hump day. Raining here.

I hear you, Danielle. I am trying to force myself to eat, but it's just not all that thrilling to me right now. I am tracking calories, though, and even though I'm in a calorie deficit, it's not a HUGE deficit. I'm attempting to employ mindful eating, whereby I eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not. I am hoping it will cut down on the MINDLESS eating I am so accustomed to!!!

Yesterday:

B: BPC
L: Some chicken salad
D: Taco salad

Thinking about heading out for c25k week 2, day 1 today. I'll make a decision once I get outside and see what the weather is like. This week is almost over....YAY!!!!

Did the c25k yesterday; it was pretty nice out! I'm so glad February is gone. I'm sick of winter and ready for some warmer temperatures.

I'm also starting to think that I might just be able to do this 5k thing. We'll see what happens when I get to week five of running 20 minutes straight. That's what made me turn back last time.

Food yesterday was not ideal, but not over calories:

B: BPC
L: Chef salad with bleu cheese
D: Homemade nachos (cheese, salsa, avocado, sour cream)

All in all, under 50g carbs, and no weight gain today, so I think as long as I stay under 50g, I'm good. I won't lose fast (but hey, I'm not losing when I eat 5g, either).

FRIDAY. Who has big plans for the weekend? None to speak of here. Maybe a trek to my favorite health food store tomorrow, but that's about it.

Hi Christine,
You have inspired me try C25K. A friend of mine did it and lost 30lbs and this is not an athletic girl! Hope you have a great weekend.

Yay, Tanya! So glad to hear it!!! Good for you. Please update on your progress! Are you signing up for a race? I find that it's really good motivation for me.

Blew through my calorie count last night.....ugh. Nachos and jordan almonds. It's interesting to note how my body reacts, though; I was definitely over full after just a bit of food, but I kept eating the nachos because they were good. I had to pack up the salad I ordered because I couldn't finish it (I barely started it: Two bites!).

Now this is a bad and good thing: It's bad because I really shouldn't have eaten all those nachos. But it's a good thing because in the past, I would have eaten the nachos AND the salad AND some dessert, too. This time, I limited myself to the nachos and some jordan almonds, which really isn't all that bad. And I was stuffed.

Did some unofficial running with DS today in the park; really just chasing each other and the nerf arrows we shot around. It's freezing out, though! Going to try for W2D2 of c25k tomorrow, but it might have to be on the treadmill.

Finished Week 2, Day 2 yesterday. It was cold and windy, but the running itself wasn't hard. I'm so glad it's going to start warming up, though! DS and I went out to the park on Saturday and ran around a bit but had to leave after a half hour. The wind in the face was just too much!

Hope everyone had a grand weekend. While Saturday was a nutritional disaster, yesterday was good:

B: BPC
L: Mexican omelet
D: Chicken breast, creamed cauliflower

Happy Monday.

Good for you for staying (and starting) w/ a 50g carb max. You'll need it for running and it will allow more variety of foods. Speaking only for myself, 5g of carbs was not cutting it for me and I was starting to feel really lousy doing NK and not losing any weight! What's with that??? Have a great week!
