I'm going to drop my protein shake for awhile and see what happens. I read that sometimes the whey protein powder can be a problem, and while it hasn't been a problem in the past, it might be influencing my ability to lose efficiently. So this morning, for example, I'm drinking a cup of coffee with HWC instead, and in an hour or so, I'll have some eggs and bacon (BTW, I bought a Keurig and LOVE IT: In particular, I love this dark roast coffee called Midnight Magic. I already mentioned that I like coffee dark and dirty, right? It's divine). Anyway, I want to work that breakfast plan for a week and see what happens.

I'm about to turn a big corner this week: On two occasions, I am having my picture taken. I have no pictures of me from the past six years because I have been way too embarrassed to be in front of the camera. But my Zumba instructor is doing a feature on me for her newsletter, and she needs a picture, so I'm going to ask my dad to take one tomorrow with his fancy camera. And then on Wednesday, one of my students is doing a fund-raiser: For 15 bucks, a professional photographer will take pictures and all of the proceeds will go to the cause. I'm going to take DS and have a nice portrait taken of us; I don't really have any good recent pictures of us together (obviously!), so I want to have one done for DH. Keep your fingers crossed that my big fat face doesn't look like....well, a big fat face.

Oh...I love pictures! Isnt it funny how critical we are with recent pictures and then when we look back at the same pictures 10 or 20 years later we cant get over how cute we were? What a great gift idea for your husband!

Well, an interesting thing happened today. We stopped to get some ice cream for DS who was dealing with a sore throat, and DH and I both had some as well. I haven't had ice cream since July.

I experienced the typical "crash," got a little crabby, drank some water, and came out of it to have a nice LC dinner. I was thinking that since I had ALREADY eaten something inappropriate, I might as well have something else, too! I gave myself full license: Whatever I wanted, I was going to have.

But the funny part is that I didn't want anything. Not one off-plan food appealed to me. I realize that *this* is the "normal eating" pattern I have always been looking for but unable to attain: The ability to eat a bit of what I want without going overboard.

FINALLY.

I'm so proud of you! The few times that I have eaten things that were "off plan" I felt the same way that things just did not seem appropriate. We had my family over in January for my mom's birthday and I remember when I was putting the dorrito's in the bowl that I gave myself permission to have a few because it had been well over a year since I had one. In the end I never even went by the bowl. A lot of that food has lost its appeal to me because I know what happens to my stomach after eating it.

My mom brought over carrot cake cupcakes yesterday, I was tempted to have one. Thankfully carrot cake is not one of those things that I go crazy for. I know without a doubt that I could have had one and not gone off plan after that but my brain kept saying "sugar = stomach ache" so I didn't have one.

Good Morning!

Great picture, btw!

Congrats on your accomplishment and on your insight. There's real progress in not throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Keep on practicing to give yourself permission, and then doing the right thing for your health and well being. I used to hate that saying "Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels". I think I like it better as "Nothing tastes as good as you think it will when you feel miserable". Good job taking care of YOU!!

Hi Christine
Hope you don't mind but I was reading through your journal (I just started my own) and just wanted to say: You have done amazingly well, congratulations on your progress and your stats look great. I also think cutting the protein shake may be the way to go, but nevethe less you have come a long way!!!

I can relate to the "carb crash," happened twice this week--once after eating what seemed like a low carb lunch at a german restaurant (I think the cole slaw had sugar in it and the BBQ sauce on the ribs was rather sweet too...), and once yesterday after having my wife's homemade quiche, crust included. Yuck!
Great pic btw

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate your comments!

Been terrifyingly busy this week and unable to post much. Weight is the same, everything is the same. Cut out the protein shake without much fanfare, but I did add two cups of coffee in the morning (well, technically one because I previously used one in my shake). Two cups sustain me until lunch, so if I don't want to eat first thing in the morning, I don't.

Made it to the gym S, M, T, and took a rest day today. I'll head back tomorrow for more heavy lifting. I'll make it to Zumba only once this week, maybe twice if I go on Saturday. I have to paint, so I'm not sure if I'll get there.

I'm going to take this opportunity to complain about something non-weightloss related.

My neighbors are making me crazy. They block the egress to our parking area and garage with their big pick-up as they unload piles and piles of scrap metal into their garage. Normally, this doesn't bother me. When the alley is blocked, I park in the front (even though I have to back out onto the street and maneuver around to do it).

So I came home from work today loaded down with DS's fund-raiser candy, my gym bag, briefcase, and DS.....complete with backpack and lunch box. I parked on the street and loaded our stuff inside.

DS asked if he could go out and play with annoying neighbor's kids. Fine.

DS came back in to do his homework and told me that one of the kids somehow ended up with dog poop on his shirt. He then said that he wiped the poop off on our fence.

At first I was like, whatever. How much could it be? DS said, "I tried to stop him but I couldn't, so I am sorry." Me: It's not your responsibility to police the actions of other kids, especially when his FATHER IS STANDING RIGHT THERE.

DS: You would have made me clean that off if I had done that.

(YES, YOU ARE GD RIGHT I WOULD HAVE!)

THEN I went to move my car after DH came home and the neighbors were gone, and I looked at the fence. Dog poop is SMEARED all over the fence.....about 10 feet worth!!! Are you kidding me???

A little while later they came back, and I was all set to go out there and have a word, until I realized that the only one out there was the father; no habla ingles y mi espanol no es bueno, especialmente cuando estoy enojada!!! (My spanish is not good when I am angry.) So now I'm going to see if the COUSIN is out there this weekend because I have pretty much had it.

I have a very high tolerance for nonsense, I really do. But the closer we get to moving (June 1), the less tolerant I am.

And I have no tolerance for POOP.

Extra hugs for you tonight Christine. The scenerio you described would send THE most patient person over the top. Is the young person involved a special needs child?

Ick. I've lived in my house 22 years and I've had some really good and really bad neighbors over the years. One guy had knock down scream fights with his part time girl friend and then NOISY makeup sex with the windows open...frankly he was so scary, I never called the police for fear of retaliation. Years later I found out he bought a "keg" of beer for my high school age daughter and her friend for a party...then told her if she got caught and ratted him out he would kill her. She believed him and told me many years later. I wish I had answers re: your fence. You could put DS out there with a bucket of soapy water and a broom and let him ask his friend to help clean up.

I'm happy you'll be in a new place soon. What do you know about those neighbors?

Thanks, ladies! The kid who did it is the oldest kid in the family (7th grade). My husband says they're "trouble," but I like to reserve judgment on such matters. But now....I don't know. I can't believe the father just let that happen.

Ah well. We're out of here soon! And it's raining now, so maybe that'll wash it off.

Scale still isn't moving, but I did notice something today. One of the most dreaded jobs in my life is changing the shower curtains. I have a cast iron tub with a shower extension thing, so I have curtains all the way around the tub. My arms used to get so tired taking those darned things off and then putting them back up! I would have to stop after every three rings in order to rest my arms.

I didn't realize it until after it was done, but I took them down and put new ones up without even stopping! Must be those push-ups.

But really, I have to say that it feels so nice to know I can depend on my body, that I don't have to worry about running out of steam or strength. I have a long way to go in the weight loss department; this I know to be true. But from a standpoint of strength and endurance, I feel really confident.

Even if I didn't lose another pound, I'd consider that a success.

But I had better lose another pound.....or forty!

Christine that is just awesome. May there come a time when all of our successes have nothing to do with the scale.

Thanks, Blonde! I'm going to start racking up some NSVs and stay away from the scale for awhile. I'm considering trying some Paleo eating for 30 days, and part of the challenge is to put away the scale! Hmmmmm. We'll see.

I don't know if I can part with my precious dairy, though. I love cheese. But I do know that it would be better for my body if I went without it. Decisions, decisions.

And while I am *thrilled* that DH is doing so well with this LC life, can I just tell you how much it irritates me that we can both eat the exact same things, he'll lose, and I'll gain?? DUDES!!!

Ah well. Here's to a new week. Gorgeous day today, summer dress-wearing weather! Picture attached, maybe. I'm going to try to make it bigger so that Dawn doesn't mock me. (ETA: It worked! Yessssssssss!)

(Dress: $5. I am an enormous bargain shopper. )

Go Christine! Love the dress! Oh and lmao re: the hubs losing more quickly .. I used to have to tell my hubs "not today" when he'd come bounding out of the bathroom after having a drop, not realizing I was up due to nothing but tom! He lost 60 lbs in the time it took me to lose 30.. but I kept it off.. ( I gotta give him a break , he was very sick last year and a lot of it was from steroids..yuck)

Have a wonderful day.. we are finally having a warm breeze up here!
