So on the one hand, yes....I feel strong. On the other hand, I feel terribly unfit. I have mastered the motivation issue by channeling the tagline of one of my least favorite companies: Just Do It. I find that thinking about doing it is so much worse than just actually doing it. Example: Back when I was swimming regularly (before the bitter cold of winter!), if I stopped to think about the HASSLE of it all (packing my clothes, dressing then undressing then redressing then showering then heading to work), I'd have never done it. So I didn't let myself think about doing it; I just made myself do it. Same with the gym. Sometimes I lose motivation (especially related to abs and push-ups), so I've developed a strategy: I do those things FIRST because I know that -- otherwise -- I could easily skip them and say I'll do them at home but never actually do them. I also try to think about how good I'll feel when I'm finished, that every push-up is another step closer to being FINISHED. So I guess, for me, it's a matter of mastering the mind...... ![]()

You are doing awesome! I know how you feel when you have lost the weight and have come so far. Then you get into the exercise and are faithful about it to only look down at our stomach's, saddle bags, thighs, bat wings, etc to realize that we have so far to go. I look at myself and wonder if I will ever be able to get a "flat" stomach and slim thighs or if it is a lost cause because of my age.
I have to keep the "Just Do It" in my mind too every single day when I really do not feel like taking the 20-25 minutes to do my Jillian Michaels Shred! I am half way through the month and although I know strength is being built I just am not seeing the changes I hoped to by now but I keep on "Just Doing It"!

Christine, you are amazing. Your mental attitude towards all of this is inspirational. They say that weight loss is 99% mental and you, my dear, have conquered it IMO.

Between this cold that has unleashed its fury on me and PMS, I'm sure I'm retaining all sorts of fluids right now. This cough has made me vacate my plan to hit the gym this morning. Ugh. |

But this cold has taken a serious turn for the worse. I have to give a presentation to 150 students and parents today; let's hope I don't cough all over them. |

Thanks, everyone.
I finally feel human again after a terrible weekend and a terrible Monday. I actually stayed home today, which is unusual but was definitely needed. For one thing, I didn't want to infect anyone else with this plague, and for another, I could barely stumble around coherently this morning. Honestly, I thought I had some sort of neurological disorder this morning! My head was splitting, and I could barely see straight. I couldn't even take DS to the bus, so DH got up and handled everything while I went back to bed.....and slept until 11:30. Oh my!!! I must have needed it, though, because I finally feel a bit better. I was 178.6 again this morning, and I expect to see a 5 lb loss tomorrow given the amount of fluid I have processed through my nose. YUCK! Stay healthy, everyone!! |

I don't think I mentioned that DH has hopped aboard the sugarless train. He's only about 15 lbs away from his fighting weight, but the bigger problem is his sugar addiction. This is a man who can easily put away a 2-liter of coke/day. It finally got to a point where I put my foot down. He also has a disease that is inflammatory in nature, which sugar clearly exacerbates. So he agree (with my not-so-gentle prodding) to reduce his sugar intake considerably, which he has done for two weeks with good success (though it was touch-and-go for a bit there! Very crabby withdrawal period!!). He does feel that he needs to make some substitutions, which I wouldn't deny him this early in the game. He is someone who needs to wean, as opposed to my cold-turkey tendencies. So he has his Coke Zero and s/f pudding, which both seem to help him stay the course. But he brought some evil into our lives over the weekend. I tried not to rely much on "products" this go-round, mostly because I'm cheap but also because I feel like they halt my progress a bit. So I stayed away from sugar alcohols as much as possible. HOWEVER, those Atkins Endulge PB Cups? I can't believe they're sugar free. I can't believe it! They taste incredible. I really need to step away! At least I have a "problem" with sugar alcohols and can't eat much; that should keep me honest! |

i'm thrilled that you broke the 180's...and it's sticking! and also glad you feel a tad better. body fluids are so out of whack when you're sick...for me, it's counterintuitive to not eat/drink lots less due to illness...and show a scale gain. not fair.
did you plan a reward for the 170s or was the excitement good enough? thank you for luvin on me in my new journal. no giving up, right? |

Thanks, Jan! And I'm so happy to have found your journal! Is today your last day before vacation? No reward for the 170s for me. Maybe at 170 I'll buy some new clothes. I realized today that I'm lucky it's still snowing out.....I have no spring/summer clothes that fit! ![]() ![]() ![]() So maybe I'll buy some basics but hold off on anything special until I hit 170, which was originally a big mental marker for me. I've since shifted that marker to 159, but 170 would still be a big deal! ![]() |

Good Morning Christine! Congrats on the 170's, hard fought and won. Sounds like you've been going through a rough patch with your health, I'm so sorry.
I agree with Jan, you've worked so hard and you deserve a reward of some kind. It'll come to you. Your healthy influence is reaching out to your DH. Perhaps that is a reward in itself. Dawn, all this talk about saddlebags and bat wings...it's so true for me. I haven't given exercise a second glance in so long...I don't know now if age prohibits my ever being smooth and supple. I just feel crepe-y and baggy. Hope you feel back to normal soon! ![]() Blonde~

reward clothes are essential!
but you know...there are reward trips and events and activities and accessories and hobbies...one could go really wild if one so chose to "reward" ![]() good for you to push so hard for that scale goal. i want to see your happy dance when you get to 159 ![]() |

i'm with you on wanting this day over!!! for you, is it because the day is going to be tough, or because after the regular stuff you've got something terrific planned? mine is actually both...last day stress and drama at work, then a long vacation!
