WOE: Atkins - 2 shakes per day/lc meal
Start Date: November 16, 2001
Delynmonet's Weightloss Journey . . .

I am starting this journal based upon the ups and down of my weightloss journey. I am an Atkins-ite to the T. But despite that, it's my personal experiences with the Atkins Plan on a yearly/monthly/weekly basis that I wanted to share with you all.

I had kept a written journal since November 16, 2001 which has become the story of my "travel". Currently, I am 159.4 lbs. and excited to reach 150 lbs. Any more weightloss than that will be a given.

I've done it before and will continue to do it again . . . for as long as it takes to stay healthy and reach my weightloss goal.

When I started the Atkins Plan, I was 176 lbs. on November 16, 2001, my lowest weight attained was 135 lbs. in November 2002. In 2003, I averaged 140's; in 2004, averaged 150's; in 2005, averaged 160's; in 2006, came down to 150's; in 2007 and mid-2008, averaged 140's; May 2008, averaged 150's; in 2009, 160's.

With a lot of stress in my life because of learning of my mother's bout with Alzheimer's in late 2004 (at that time it was described by the doctor dementia until diagnosed in early 2005), and from the time I moved her to New York from Philadelphia in 2005, I was partially or not focusing on my weight - I did a lot of nervous eating, or not eating at all, or eating hospital snacks, etc. She passed away in February 2010.

In December 2009, I experienced a back injury which immobilized my right leg to some extent and I walked with a cane . . . therefore, I could not exercise on my treadmill until May of this year . . .

My journey now begins ---- again . . .

WOE: Atkins - 2 shakes per day/lc meal
Start Date: November 16, 2001
My weight loss plan consists of low carb and low calorie combination - using the Atkin's Shakes (Chocolate is my favorite) - I restarted the October 31, 2006 plan of two-shakes a day and a well-balanced meal in the evening, consisting of protein, veggies and salad. It was successful as my starting weight then was at 160.2 and the lowest weight of 141 was achieved in September 26, 2007, by using that method. And, of course, I exercised on my treadmill 5-7 days a week.

On July 6, 2010, I restarted my Atkins Advantage Shakes Plan again. My weight was 168.4, I am now down to 159.6. Because of hormonal changes, I fluctuate up and down, which is to be expected. On an average, I am losing 1-2 lbs. within a week. This is truly an accomplishment as I am now able to fit into clothing that I couldn't even pull up and zip or button.

After analyzing my written journal, I came to the conclusion that I MUST weigh myself regularly in order to control my weight. Once I reach my goal, and I change my intake of food (adding omelets, more veggies, occasional treats like Carb Smart Ice Cream, etc.) I have to keep the shakes available. For instance, I plan to have shakes several times during the week (Monday-Thursday) and allow myself solid breakfast and lunch on the weekends, and low carb dinners. If I see any added weight - the shakes will allow me to get off what I put on.

By keeping a written journal for years has helped me to understand how MY body works. Therefore, this is to say that I truly know that what works for one person may, or may not, work for another. Everyone's physical and chemical makeup is different.

Tomorrow I am attending a catered event. I will have two shakes (breakfast and lunch) and make good food choices. Since I have a goal to reach, I cannot afford to sabotage it. I have gotten in the habit of having Seltzer with lemon . . . so, I don't miss alcoholic drinks at this stage. Before I started my plan again, I was constantly drinking Bacardi coolers. I have plenty left from my son's graduation party in May. I won't even l@@k at them at this point! I have to be strong with myself or I will go right back up - literally, I've noticed if I have any sugar in my body - I spike up overnight . . . one alcoholic drink (Bellini) on July 17th took me from 165.2 to 166.4 on July 18th. 1.2 lbs . . .that's all the convincing that I needed. Of course, I was back down to 165.8 on July 19th . . . thank goodness I didn't have two drinks!

I am ready for tomorrow . . .

This afternoon I will be attending a catered event. Last night was practice for a song we are singng, "Friends" by Dionne Warwick . . . I still don't know all of the words, except for the chorus . . . .

Anyway, the same as last week Friday at practice, there was plenty of cake and ice cream there --- and coaxing that "only one" plate of it won't hurt me . . . I didn't listen to that talk last Friday, nor this Friday ... I told someone I have a goal to reach of 158 by the end of August and I am too focused for any setbacks.

Felt good . . . .

Made it through yesterday's catered event - I had green salad with shrimp, chicken and pepper steak - no pasta, no cake and ice cream. Drank plenty of seltzer with lemon.

Came home and had a small piece of my Philly No Bake Cheesecake made with Splenda! This morning, I am down from 159.6 to 159.2 . . . can I "peek" at 158 this week? I hope so!

There is one more event left at the end of the month - but the hostess has lost a lot of weight and asked that we bring "healthy" dishes/desserts for the BBQ! That makes it easier . . .

This morning, I am at 159.8, up 0.6 from yesterday's 159.2. My body fat (BF) is lowering though. Yesterday it was 41.0%, today 40.0%. After walking on my treadmill this morning, my weight registered as 159.4 lbs.

Being used to fluctuations, I am now in day 6 of 159 up's and downs in the Ounces Department . . . which is not unusual for me. Looking back to June 2009, I spent 5 days in the 160's, then day 6 I went up to 161.4, then the following day I was down to 159.0.

What a rollercoaster ride then and now, but I'm holding on!

Last night, I ate a very hearty green salad with quite a bit of rotisserie chicken cut into chunks, olive oil and Mrs. Dash as dressing. I made a "low carb" pizza out of one slice of low carb bread, a tablespoon of pizza sauce, one slice of cheese and plenty of garlic powder and Mrs. Dash. It was delicious - I was so busy yesterday that I only had one Atkins Shake for breakfast - so I guess I made up for missing lunch at dinner time.

I am looking forward to reaching my goal of 158 lbs. by the end of August. I set a goal of losing one pound per week - that seems what I have been averaging. Any extra is a surprise. Don't want to over stress myself about it - as I do experience quite a bit of fluctuations - therefore, I allow room for it.

Progress - this morning, a pair of pants that I have been wearing for weeks has room to spare as I can now zip them up without holding in my tummy! Got a comment yesterday from a friend and today from a co-worker that I look like I am losing weight . . . felt good!

I hit goal of 158.8 on the 17th and 158.0 on the 20th. Today, I am 157.8 - now to maintain that number until the 30th! I feel great!!

Strangely enough, though, in June 2009, I spent 10 days in the 157 lb. syndrome, with ups in between to 158 several times . . . hope I don't do that this time!

Challenge Weekend coming up - but of a different nature . . . I REALLY like this one - a BBQ with healthy eats!! My friend has lost a LOT of weight and asked that we bring healthy food to her BBQ on Saturday. I have decided to bring two fresh fruit bowls and a rotisserie chicken. At least I will have a great selection to pick from!

Today, I am holding at 157.6 - will I see 156 before September 1? That would be nice. We will see . . .

This morning, I was 156.6! I survived another BBQ!!! Even though there were healthy choices ... somehow starches and sugary foods made their debut.

I had hors duerves - celery and carrot sticks with bleu cheese dressing/beef salami slices, cucumbers and cheese slices. Then dinner was a green salad, roast chicken, pepper steak, cole slaw, cabbage and carrot veggie mix and a small amount of hummus. Desserts galore - I had a piece of melon, a couple of strawberries and a tiny taste of strawberry shortcake (and I mean not enough to fit on a teaspoon). More cream and strawberries than sponge cake . . .

Having green tea right now and reminiscing about how happy I am that I stayed away from that delicious looking macaroni and cheese, and potato salad . . .

Went up 1.0 lb. to 157.6 due Fluctuation City!! No problem for me as I understand this is part of the journey! Total 4.2 lbs lost (actually 5 lbs on Saturday).

Goal is to reach 153 by end of September. My body fat dropped from 41.0% to 38.5% - a 2.5% loss! inches are just falling off . . . I am loving it.

I just noticed your WOE. So, you do 2 shakes and 1 LC meal per day?

Glad to hear from you, Meek! Hope all is well!!

Yes, that's it . . . 2 shakes and 1 LC meal. I might snack by having an Atkins Endulge Bar or pork rinds on occasion. I find that cashews sometimes stall me, so that's limited.

It's working for me as it has in the past. I am fitting in my size 10 suits again with no problem . . . I'm not even trying to purchase new clothes!

When I have challenging invites to BBQ's/dinners - I make a plan in advance that I am staying lc all the way - so I will stay on track. My final goal is to reach 150 by October (if not sooner), as I average about 1 lb. loss a week (give or take a few ounces).

WOW - your plan sounds great! I'm glad you found something that works for you. Kudos and congrats on fitting into old clothes. I bet you're so happy!!

Keep going...:kicking.

ETA: I use to work with a women who said she use to be very overweight. She lost a ton of weight after having her baby. By the time I met her, she was thin and trim. I worked with her for 3.5 years and notice she only had a shake for breakie and lunch. She told me that's all she did was 2 shakes + dinner to lose and maintain her weight.

Today, I reached 154.6 - got a 1 lb. Whoosh! That doesn't happen too often. Anyway, since the latter half of August, I lived in 157 Heaven, would not seem to get out of it and when I did, I went back into it. I just recently hit the 156's again (9/11).

Although I am overjoyed about hitting 154.6, I expect to creep up a few ounces to 155 again. I have been in Fluctuation City for a while. Can't complain though, as I am still losing, albeit slow as it is.

I reached 153.8 lbs. last week Wednesday, September 15th!! Since then I was doing really good maintaining in the 153's. I am now back up to 155 as Mr. TOM Sabotage, who I've hadn't met with in YEARS, crept back into my life.

Brief story: I have been on depoprovera shots for years and the dr. took me off of the depo as of last month - he said the numbers from my blood test indicated 100% in menopause. Well, Friday, Mr. TOM came by and miraculously by Sunday, I weighed in 2 lbs. heavier! The dr. has scheduled an appointment with me for another blood test to determine whether this (Mr. TOM) is a reaction because of the depo coming out of my system, or if my body is or is not in menopause . . .

I am hoping to be back to my 153's by the weekend. Realistically, that would take two Whooshes, which are very hard for me to come by. I only see those every once in a while.

Otherwise, my clothes are fitting really well, looser and more by my form. Even with TOM, yesterday I was able to wear a suit that I could not get into two weeks ago! WOO HOO!!!

Next month is the big challenge --- will I reach the high 140's? My goal is at least to lose 4 lbs per month. If I end up at 153, I am looking at 149 as a target for the end of October . . . wish me well!

And, the saga continues . . .

Congrats on reaching 153. You'll see it again in no time. I like that you are being realistic with your goals. Good job on still being able to wear your clothes comfortably with TOM being present. :apray:ing that you reach the 140's by the end of next month. I'm sure you will.

Keep Going

I ended October at 147.2 - reached my goal. This month's goal is to get to 140-145 and start the maintaining phase. My strategy is to continue weighing daily - if I see even 1 or 2 lbs. over 145, I will get back onto the Atkins Advantage Shakes Plan for a week or two and get it back off. That's why I LOVE the Daily Weigher Thread - it keeps me totally accountable.

That was my downfall in the past . . . I would ignore the "warning signs" - the extra weight! WHY? Because I stopped weighing - in. So, here goes . . . .

By the way, I am hoping you all who've posted are doing okay . . . please stop by for an update!

I have finally reached 145 lbs. My plan is to stay between 140 - 145 lbs. So, fluctuations are expected - if I go above 145 lbs., then I will take it off within a two-week span. That's why I MUST weigh myself every single day. That's my plan, and I am sticking to it.

Wow, it's been months since I've placed anything on my journal. Happy to say that my goal is to maintain between 140-145 and I've been holding on, particularly since I've been accountable on a daily basis with weighing!

I am on average 142-143 lbs. Still having Atkins Shakes on alternate days - also, an occasional egg, cheese and meat on low carb bread or flat bread, salads during lunch and a low carb meal.

Still exercising on the treadmill and have added Pilates and "cat" stretches daily to help relieve back pain. Well, glad to say, the back pain is subsiding and I am feeling great! Haven't taken any pain medication within the last three weeks. Exercise/stretching does work!

WOE: Atkins - 2 shakes per day/lc meal
Start Date: November 16, 2001
Wow - time is passing by quickly .... it's been a couple of months since I've logged anything in .... just got back from vacation and have been weighing in at 145/146 ... no problem as I took my scale with me and was able to keep a handle on my weight ...

I am determined to stay between 140-145 ... will continue my two Atkins drinks routine and return to the low 140's .....
