Tyrone Bill's Story/Ongoing Journey!

Hi my name is Bill. I'm a disabled veteran, who is confined to a wheelchair and I am/was a binge eater.

I started Protein Power back in May 2002. I was able to walk then utilizing two canes. At 5' 8" tall I weighed 370 pounds. I did well for a while, slipped up and gained back a few pounds. In July of 2005, I found Low Carb Friends. I restarted and over the next two and a half to years I cut my weight in half. I lost 185 pounds and was 15 pounds away from my original goal of 170 pounds.

It was at this time my wife Doy and I decided to take an extended trip to her birthplace in northeastern Thailand. While there my health started to deteriorate. It got to the point that I couldn't be on my feet for more than 5 or 10 minutes. The pain in my ankles, knees, hips and back was excruciating. I was also experiencing severe pain in my hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. It was next to impossible to use my canes anymore. My doctor told me I would need to start using a wheelchair. He added that it would be permanent and my condition was irreversible. It devastated me. This wasn't supposed to be happening. I was losing tons of weight. It should be getting easier for me to get around. But that wasn't the case and upon realizing it. I went into a deep depression and started binge eating again. It didn't take long for me to start gaining my weight back. Before I knew it I gained almost all my lost weight back. I realized I needed help. I received treatment for my depression. I made a few feeble attempts to restart my weightloss program. Finally on June 1st, 2009 I earnestly restarted and weighed in at 350 pounds. My July 6th weigh-in showed a 23 pound loss, August 3rd- 13 pounds and September 8th added another 9 pounds for a total of 45 pounds for my first three weigh-ins. I'm on my way back and this time I'm seeing it through to my final goal.

Comments on my story and progress are welcome.

Bill,
I enjoyed reading your story. Thanks for sharing. You are always a great source of information. It looks like you are on a great track.
Did you find out why your health changed so dramatically while on your trip to Thailand?
You are losing at a steady pace. Could you post some sample daily menus?
Linda

Kellbell, Bill, Donia and Linda thank you for your comments and encouragement.

Linda My disability is due to a serious injury I received while in the army. It caused irreversible nerve damage in my lower back and legs. While stationed in the far east I also contracted a flu-like virus that doesn't entirely leave the body. While in Thailand it reared its head again. It attacked my joints and caused arthritis-like damage. So with the nerve damage and joint damage I was no longer able to be on my feet for very long.

I will be posting my meals here daily. I also post my meal plans daily in the main lobby and the 300+ Support Group of the Century Club.

Here's the link to the Main Lobby Posting.

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ma...ing-today.html

Thanks again everybody.

Tamara Thank you. I decided to put out my story mainly as a warning to everybody. The warning being this: even if you're close to or at goal, be diligent in what you are doing. Stuff happens that can derail you and send you right back ground zero.

I just hope the message helps.

Sharon thank you so much. You don't know what it means to us Viet Nam era soldiers to hear that. Today communities put on parades and welcome home the troops with open arms as they should, I'm right there with them. Back in my time we got spat on and cursed out. It was heartbreaking. So thank you so much.

I will suceed this time. It helps when friends like praise and encourage me.

I was in late teens and early 20s during Vietnam era. I remember all the hurt; that's why I think so highly of all of you!

It's weird though. Our DS, now 28 did the year and a half deployment to Iraq. He was welcomed home, etc...............But it seems now that he hears a lot of rude comments about "those crazy PTSD vets" from the sand, etc. It really sucks, so he knows how all of you Vietnam vets feel. ...........OK, these vets fought for WHO? WHERE? WHY? So you can run off your stupid mouth! Don't get me going, I guess. I've lost too many friends at war in the past 44 years.

Love ya, Bill (and Doy).

Sorry for all the pain you live with, Bill ............I wish that wasn't one of your souveniers from serving our country. You deserve so much more in thanks.

As an aside, DS got the results from his MRI: herniated disc in upper back. Between #3 and #4. So, now, they'll be evaluating what kind of treatment will help the most. He was a medic in Iraq and the doc he saw over there when this happened has been in contact with him. It's so hard to see our kids in pain.

Best wishes for another successful week of Protein Power Plan, Bill. I haven't had the chance to post much this weekend, but still thinking of my friends here!

Nighty night.
