Dani's getting to GOAL

Ok, this just might the push I need to get to goal. Have lost close to 70 pounds following the South Beach plan since August 2007. I'm still debating what my final goal will be. I'm leaning toward changing it to 125-130, seeing as I'm only 5'3''. I need to work on toning up more and getting in more exercise.

Here is where I started at what I believe to be my heaviest circa June 2006.

Here's another one taken around July 2004.

And here is the new me...

[COLOR="DarkOrange"]Hey, Dani!

I think starting a journal will be
very instrumental to your progress.
It helps us to focus on our goals, our mistakes,
our tweaks, our successes, and more closely
on our nutrition.
It lends support and encouragement
when we need it most.

I wish you the very best.
I'll be peeking in regularly.

After work today I walked for 45 minutes. It was a nice and sunny and I got my heart rate up going over the hills in my neighborhood.

My goals for April:
- Do 3 hours of Callanetics a week
- Do 3 days of Cardio a week, minimum of 30 minutes each time (this will vary between walking, jogging, Wii Fit, and various cardio DVDs that I have)
- Continue to eat on plan (Phase 2 of South Beach)
- Weigh bi-weekly and continue to judge my progress by how my clothes fit
- Work toward getting my body beach ready...want to get into a two-piece this summer...which I haven't worn in over ten years!

Today has been a great day so far...thanks Rich for stopping by! (And encouraging me to journal)

This morning I ran into my neighbor that I rarely see because she works nights...she asked if I've lost more weight and said that my legs are looking so slim! I was so happy driving to work. My legs are definitely a work in progress...but doing callanetics more consistently is working!

I feel really energized. Eating has been good all day. I'm planning on getting in an hour of callanetics tonight and doing cardio tomorrow. Sunday will be rest day.

Today's menu:
B: 2 eggs, salsa, 2 pieces of turkey bacon
S: yogurt w/almonds, splenda
L: salad w/tuna
S: celery w/2 T. NPB
D: bbq chicken and coleslaw (both lc)

Scale had rewarded me for a good eating and exercising week...down 1.5 to 141.5. I'm so close to saying goodbye to the 140s.

Planned to take today off but it is so sunny and nice out I would like to get a short walk in.

I've been reading up more on interval training. I had forgotten that the South Beach: Supercharged book has a whole section in it about interval training. It seems to make sense to me, and I will be trying it out this week.

Just thinking back to when I got started almost 2 years ago I was mainly trying to get my eating and binging under control. Exercise was something I dreaded. I realize how key exercise is to all of this. I am actually enjoying exercising which seems so funny to me...definitely new way of thinking. My mood is so much better (Spring may have something to do with this too...I tend to battle dark moods in the Winter). I have a lot more energy which I really need at this time in the school year.

Planning on rejoining yoga class once a week during April vacation. My regular teacher has been over in the Netherlands for a few months visiting her family and I haven't been there since she left. Will be interesting to see how my form will be.

Dani, congrats on the weight loss! You put in the work, you get rewarded! That's how it works. Good job, girl!

As for your Q in my journal re the intervals, definitely give intervals a go. They're far more effective for burning fat than steady-state cardio. And I think they're less boring, actually. You're busting it on the intensity, then you recover, then repeat. It keeps it both interesting AND challenging.

You can incorporate interval cardio with most forms of cardio, just find something you like and give it a go.

Start small, and just increase your ratios. Warm up, find a ratio of interval/recovery you're comfortable with, and do this for at least 20 mins 2 or 3 x a week. Keep challenging yourself, pushing yourself. I think you'll find that it's very effective and dare I say....addictive?

Have a great week.

Thanks Twyla...I'm going to give this a go during my next workout. I never thought I'd find exercise addicting, but I'm starting to feel that way!

Yes, Rich compliments are GREAT!

Woke up energized this morning...which is rare for a Monday. Just had dinner and will do my callanetics in a little while.

Today:
B: 2 eggs, 2 pieces of turkey bacon
S: yogurt
L: leftover chicken and broccoli
S: almonds
D: two-bean chili

Dani,

It's my belief that journaling is empowering to our subconscious. By journaling, we're fueling our desires, setting them into action. Our best intentions -- our willingness to live out our commitments -- become affirmed. No negotiating once it's in black and white.

Keep it up! You're onto something, girl!

Had a better day. Was bummed yesterday to miss the Sox Opener, seeing as I was stuck in my afternoon grad class. The rainy weather the past few days didn't help either. Today at least it was sunny (even if a little cold) and I felt less stressed. Felt good after getting in 30 minutes of interval walking this evening. Did 5 minutes warm-up. Then 1 minute energized, then 2 minutes recovery...continued this pattern until the last 3 minutes for cool-down. Eating is going very well this week...no cravings to speak of.

Did not have a good evening. Some family drama erupted and I stupidly let my old friend food try to make me feel better. It did not. Had 2 pieces of pizza and a real coke. Very mad at myself right now. We'll see how much damage it did when I weigh-in tomorrow. Luckily the rest of the week was good and on-plan.

I am going to do some interval walking. Hopefully the endorphins will help.

Not as bad of a meltdown as I've had in my sinful streaks....

Hang in there, girl. Head up. No looking back. Seize the day, the moment, move forward.

Thank you Rich and Twyla for your support...you guys are the best! I gotta keep remembering "Progress not Perfection."

Tried to make the most out of the weekend. Family drama is still ongoing, but I'm choosing to stay out of it. Unfortunately, you can choose your friends, but not your family.

Lost a 1/2 pound this week. Could have been better, but I'm happy for the loss. Stayed pretty much on-plan today. I did have a small piece of angel food cake for dessert. The eclairs were tempting but I figured the angel food was probably the lesser of two evils.

Just completed an hour of 10 in 10. Looking forward to the week. I seem to do much better with routine.
