Also discovered the joy of adding pesto and vidalia onion to my scrambled eggs this morning. This tweak is a definite keeper!

Rich! Yes, it was a good weekend for the most part weather-wise...I spent a lot of time outside.

Went to a fun cookout/fireworks show yesterday. Eating was so-so. Back on my game today!!

The local bikram yoga studio is running a special, 2 weeks unlimited classes deal for $20, so I'm joining this afternoon. I practice a gentler style (Kripalu) once a week mainly for the flexibility and stress relief, but bikram (heated) yoga is supposed to do wonders for weight loss and detoxification of the body.

Here's me, mom and sister last night:

And here's some fireworks:

Dani.......stoppin' in to say hey, having returned from vacation.

SWAMPED at work, so I won't be posting much till I get things under control around here. When it rains, it pours.

Love your new avatar, girl! Very pretty.

Later on...........

Hi Twyla! Glad to have you back! Thanks for the compliment.

Oh my goodness...tonight's bikram class was the most intense yoga I've ever done. The room is heated to 105 degrees and 40% humidity and the workout is 90 minutes long. The instructor said I did a good job of keeping up with the group and resting when I needed to. When I first walked into the heat I was blown away, but after awhile...I think I got used to it. Wow, did the cold shower feel good afterwards! I brought a bottle of water and the studio gave me a free coconut water to try. They recommended going 5 times a week.

I plan on going again tomorrow morning.

Hi Dani,

I have heard of Bikram. I would imagine in that heat your muscles can really stretch out nicely. I used to love to play any sports in the heat because of that. Until i took a class at my gym a few years ago, I didn't realize how challenging yoga can be. I am excited for you!!

Hey Rich, yes...your muscles stretch very well in that heat. I was able to go farther in several poses last night than I can in my usual non-heated class. I think a lot of people have this impression that yoga is not very challenging...but it definitely is! Thanks! I'm really excited too!

Off to go get ready for bikram class...then spending the day with my younger sister.

Eating is good despite TOM.

WOW, the bikram yoga was even better yesterday. I could feel my heart rate going up during several times in the class...so I can see the cardio benefits too. The heat didn't bother me as much yesterday and they say it takes a few times before you barely notice it. I am going again this evening and I can't wait!!

Eating continues to be good...very on-plan despite TOM.

Yes, Houston, we have a problem with the heat.

You see, heat and I have never gotten along. My family, while growing up, was certain I had something wrong with me. I'd sleep with only a sheet in the dead of winter. As a teenager, I'd lie in front of a floor fan to read books or work on homework (no A/C then). It's why when I run in the sun, I suffer from VERY BAD headaches for the rest of the day; thus, I run early morning or just before dark.

What's up with THAT! I know, I'm a wimp. But it's either improvise and try to make adjustments to my environment, or run the risk of self-combustion.

God help me when the hot flashes begin to manifest.

I can be like that too...heat can bother me and then all of sudden I can get cold. DH likes to call me a broken thermostat. LOL

Well Twyla there are lots of non-heated yoga styles. A lot of times Callanetics feels yoga-like to me too.

Thanks Rich and G!

If I don't check-in much over the next few days, I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

The bikram yoga is really helping my appetite...not thinking about food at all and I'm eating well...not stuffing my face. Hoping that this will continue into the weekend. I'm going again to class this afternoon.

The sun is out here so I'm off to go be outside!

Went to bikram this morning. FEEL AMAZING! I am doing poses that I never thought I could do, my skin is so clear, my mind is so clear. I'm not thinking about food at all. Food is sustenance...I eat to fuel up...I'm not eating for the sake of eating. I really wish I could go again tomorrow (they recommend if you can fit it in that beginners go every day for the 1st month) but I am heading to the beach with my girlfriends and we need to leave early in the morning.

Capri pants that were tight on me Tuesday are now loose! Scale is the same, but I feel much tighter and firmer! Could I be losing fat and gaining muscle?! I wish I had taken measurements on Monday. I will take some at some point today.

My teacher said today that he dropped 67 pounds in his first year of doing bikram. He says he lost 8 inches off his waist in the first few months alone.

I really feel that the bikram is going to wonders for my body and self-esteem. It is already working. I'm not nervous about about being with my skinny friends in my bikini tomorrow.

Super C and Bikram? Wow, lady you're going to be a stick!
I just started a 30 day Bikram challenge - min 5X week. I'm excited. I measured yesterday so I have a baseline to see what "happens.."

Dani, the Bikram sounds very fascinating and tempting. But the heat thing...nah...can't cut it. I did a google for my area, and it's not offered here anyway. Like I need another activity to add to my calendar. But I'm inspired by your enthusiasm. Sounds like's it's WORKING for you. Great commitment!

Thanks Stella! I just really love both I guess...and maybe I'm a slight glutton for punishment! LOL

Hi Uma!

Wow, India...that is awesome! Wherebouts? I would love to travel to India one day. The birthplace of one of my passions...yoga! Good for you for starting the Callanetics...it is a great program. Are you doing the 10 in 10 video?

My advice for the tummy exercises is just do as many as you can do the right way. As you practice the exercises more and more your body will respond and you will find that you can add more repetitions. Or, you could stop the tape and slowly do the 100 at your pace. It is up to you. Don't worry, when I first started I could barely get thru 30 of the tummy exercises. With time and practice I was able to do it!

I am glad that my journal can be a source of motivation. Post anytime!

Yes, Twyla you are the energizer bunny and I'm sure you don't need another activity at the present moment! LOL

But...they say it is a good idea to change up exercise routines from time to time. So, while the heated yoga may not be up your alley...maybe one day you will try a non-heated class! There are literally thousands of styles. I've tried several: Kripalu, Iyengar etc. Just some food for thought.

Ok, I'm definitely not nearly this bad as this poor woman in the photo above...but I did get a little burn yesterday at the beach. Mainly on my forehead, chest and shoulders. Need to be better about re-applying sunscreen next time.

It was an absolutely beautiful day. Sunny, 80s, perfect ocean breeze. It felt almost surreal to be at the beach and not that self-conscious about my body.

Here is me pre-burn:

Eating was excellent all weekend. Very clean eating!

Tonight I am going to Bikram at 7:30.
