Losin' it!
I saw a picture of my September bridesmaid dress online this weekend and I have my motivation! I started Atkins for the first time in mid-March of '03 for my brother's wedding that September. I went from a size 18 to a size 6. Years later, I am right back to shopping at the big girl stores. I've been trying to get back on the wagon again for so long. Apparently I need weddings and the prospect of the horror of being the "big" bridesmaid of the party motivate me Looks like my husband is headed overseas again, and I think that is going to make it so much easier to do this again. It's going to be slow going for me and I need to be really strict because I have hashimotos thyroiditis and adrenal issues going on, but I'm not going to let that stop me!
|
I made it through Day 1!
Here's what I ate: B: Atkins granola bar S: Pure Protein shake L: KFC grilled chicken breast (bun thrown away) on a side salad with scant amt of caesar dressing (our team goes out to lunch every day at work, but I'll be okay) S: Atkins snack bar D: Pumpkin sausage soup (found the recipe yesterday in the main low carb lobby... the kids didn't really like all of the mushrooms, but I did. It was really tasty and different. I froze a bunch of it in individual containers for days I need something quick but have nothing) I did about an hour total of Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii... really about 2 hours, but there's so much loading time between songs. First time ever finally using it, and I like it. I was sweating. I am so out of shape Breakfast is hard for me. It would be easy if I had time to cook eggs and meat at home in the morning or eat eggs at a restaurant every morning, but I don't. I need to plan ahead more for this one so I can kick the processed bars. My husband is headed overseas again soon, so I'll get better with stocking the fridge/pantry. Also time to break out all of the low carb cookbooks. |
Day 2! I weighed for the first time on Monday, and it wasn't pretty. I weighed again this morning, and the scale says 3 lbs less. My weight really fluctuates, and I lose realllly slow because of the hashimoto's thyroid and adrenal things going on with me... I am an imbalanced mess. So I don't think I lost yet, but here's to hoping Better up than down even if it is a fluctuation thing.
Yesterday I ate: B: Atkins bar S: Pure Protein Shake L: 2 Wendy's burger patties w/cheese D: 1 Wendy's burger patty w/cheese and almost one cup of leftover pumpkin sausage soup Today we switched cars and my husband took off with my bars and shakes before I could get his attention.... I swung by McDonalds and got a side of eggs and a side of sausage a little while ago. McDonalds eggs are pretty nasty on their own. |
Actually, yesterday was Day 3. I was journaling about Day 2. Whoops :)
Today is Day 4 already. So far, so good still! Day 3: B: McDonalds side of sausage and side of eggs with cheese L: Steak salad at Chipotle (didn't use more than like 1 teaspoon of the dressing because I am sure it is "carby"). The salad had steak, lettuce, pico de gallo, and I asked for just a tiny bit of sour cream and cheese... that helped work as dressing. D: I ate an early dinner. Probably about 1/2 of the pkg of those store bought keilbasa/sausage things  with spicy brown mustard. I was really hungry and the sausage was really good in our new cast iron pan! I just kept going back and eating more. Things really do taste better cooked in cast iron. S: 1 triangle of laughing cow soft cheese and one coconut chocolate endulge bar (I'm going to try to stay away from these "treats" as much as possible I have since decided). I forgot to mention that I drink at least three cups of coffee a day, each with a 0.5 oz creamer and packet of Splenda. I also drink unsweetened iced tea with splenda and water with lemon. I don't really drink diet sodas unless unsweetened tea isn't available and I don't feel like drinking water. I didn't weigh this morning. I didn't exercise again last night. Our house is a huge mess right now with DH packing. He's been home when I get home from work, and that's really throwing me off. My "me time" is non-existent right now. I will do something tonight, even if I have to clear a small space so I can at least do crunches and leg lifts. Just something to keep me getting started. I didn't start using ****** yet, but I'm pretty sure I didn't need all of those calories yesterday. I need to do better with that. |
Today is day 6 and TOM is here. I'm not getting cravings so far, thank goodness!
I weighed yesterday and the scale "fluctuations" continue in a downward direction. If that's the case tomorrow morning (or Monday, depending on when I weigh again), I'm claiming it as a loss (a FIVE POUND loss so far). This is highly unusual for me to lose right off, so I'm a bit skeptical, LOL! Maybe my new thryroid supplement IS working after all. That would be so awesome to actually get results for hard work for a change! I'm trying to remember Day 4's menu... B: Peanut butter chocolate EAS low carb bar L: 4 frozen angus meatballs with about 3 T of Trader Joe's low carb sauce and about an ounce of shredded pizza cheese D: about 6 oz of roasted chicken with 1/2 c of canned green beans Day 5: B: 2-egg omlet with mushrooms and crumbled bacon with shredded cheese and 2 T of a Trader Joe's low carb sauce L: Atkins Chocolate Chip Granola Bar S: About 1/4 cup of chicken salad D: a 3-egg egg cream using about 1/4 of a chocolate atkins shake (my carb solutions protein powder hasn't arrived yet... love that stuff), about 1/4 c. of coconut milk, 1 T heavy cream, water, and ice). never tried these before. it was okay, but I need to buy a real blender Right now I'm sipping my newest find-- Yogi Mexican Sweet Chili tea (with a pkt of splenda and a tiny bit of heavy cream). Awesome stuff! I haven't been getting any sleep like I should and slept in today... waiting to get hungry because I can't decide what I'm in the mood for. |
Day 7 and down what looks like a total of 7 lbs! Tomorrow will be the start of Week 2 for me.
I think the loss can be attributed to either the egg creams or finally getting some sleep, LOL! AND it's TOM, and I still lost! I am just giddy over this. Today I am planning to head out in search of sugar free davinci/torani syrups and a magic bullet type blender. I want to replace the atkins bars I ate for breakfast last week with egg creams. Now if I can just wake up ten minutes earlier and actually keep up with making ice cubes. Day 6 menu: B: 2-egg cream L: 2-egg cream D: salmon patty S: about 1/2 cup of a coconut milk/splenda/cocoa creation... was almost like pudding, mmm! Oh, and plenty of hot sweet chili tea! and water. I haven't drank coffee since Thursday morning. Not intentionally, just haven't bothered brewing any :) |
Day 9!
The scale was up one pound yesterday morning. I'm wondering if that is because I went out to eat at a hibatchi grill place. I only ate the beef (about 5 oz), scallops (5 large), shrimp (2 medium), vegetables (1/2 cup), and miso soup (1/2 cup)... I didn't even eat the side salad since the dressing was already on there and I didn't want to chance hidden carbs in the dressing. Maybe there was a huge amount of salt, or maybe there was some hidden sugars in the meat? I really hope it was just salt. I really don't want to mess up my progress! I didn't get a chance to weigh this morning. I dropped DH off at base... probably won't see him for a year. We have been VERY busy getting stuff together. On Sunday, I ate: B- leftover omlet (probably about 1.5 eggs, mushroom, cheese, tiny bit of tomato and bacon crumbles L- 2 mcdonald burger patties with 1 slice of cheese D- hibatchi grill (detailed above) Monday (Day 8): B: 3-egg cream L: Dr. CarbRite Brownie bar D: about 5 slices of pepperoni, 4 oz of mexican frying cheese (saw it on the induction food porn thread and HAD to find it... and did, at Wal-mart!), and about 1/6 c of low carb trader joe's sauce to dip it in I'm going to weigh again tomorrow morning. I am working on about 2 hours of sleep last night, so I hope that doesn't mess things up. I plan to get a good night's sleep tonight. |
You are doing great chica! Keep rocking it!
What a pretty avi of you too. |
:hiya:
How are you? I need to find the pumpkin soup recipe...do you have it to post by chance? Another wedding huh? I am just trying to get ready for summer and shorts. |
Hi Bekki. I found the recipe in this thread: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...arb-soups.html
Low Carb Pumpkin Sausage Soup Ingredients 1 (12 ounce) package Jimmy Dean sausage 1/2 cup onion, minced 1 garlic clove, minced 1 tablespoon italian seasoning 1-2 cup fresh mushrooms, chopped 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin 4 cups chicken broth 1/2 cup heavy cream 1/2 cup water Directions 1Brown sausage, drain, then add the onion, garlic, Italian seasoning and mushrooms and sauté until done. Add pumpkin to this mixture and mix well. Then stir in the broth and mix well. Simmer 20-30 minutes. Stir in the heavy cream and water and simmer on low another 10-15 minute Taste and add salt& pepper as needed. |
Day 10
The scale is sitting at a total of 6 lbs lost. I'm hoping it's not the Dr. CarbRite bars stalling me (I looked, and they have sugar alcohols in them). I was realizing this as I was rushing down the highway eating one for breakfast this morning. I may have to cut them out and work harder to get up in enough time to have a non-processed food breakfast (like egg creams). Sleep won out this morning with that and with getting to work on time! I still need to buy a real blender. The immersion blender doesn't crush ice very quickly or well. Yesterday I ate: B: 3 oz turkey sausage, 1 egg L: Wendy's BLT salad (the lettuce, cucumbers, a scant amount of shredded cheese and crumbled bacon, and grilled chicken only, and with blue cheese dressing) (basically, minus tomatoes, croutons, and the dressing they give with it) S: Dr. CarbRite bar S: Just the Cheese crackers (1 bag) S: Dr. CarbRite bar As you can see, I just munched instead of taking time to cook myself dinner-- enough snacks for two dinners worth of food looking back at the menu. Yikes... that's not good. I'm trying to do damage control to my poor house from DH's packing, but he showed up in the middle of it... he snuck home for the night since they weren't flying out until the morning. So that really threw me off. Happily so, but still... Between that and getting no sleep, I guess it's no wonder the scale isn't going down more. I'll do better today :) Tomorrow I'm in DC for half the day, but I should be able to work around that nicely. |
:hiya: Matrigna..congrats on the loss so far..
Just wanted to pop in to cheer you on |
Hi Diane! Thanks for popping in to say hi and cheer me on!
I love the support I get on LCF-- I am so happy the boards are still here for me this time around :) They really do make all the difference. |
Oh... meant to post this before...
I found my web page from last time around: http://www.geocities.com/brwneyd_gur...sProgress.html. I also looked at my gallery pictures from last time around. Even though I've surpassed my "heaviest ever" this time around and have a longer way to go this time, it reminded me of how much of a change can happen in a short amount of time.... if I just stick to it! And how this time I know, through trial and error last time, what works and what does not work, what throws me off track and what helps. That definitely should count for something in helping me be even more successful this time, right? |

Ohh thanks for posting that soup recipe I have saved it to my computer and will get the fixings for it this weekend when I do our shopping.
I think its great to look at the past, you can see what worked good for you and what wasnt so great. Now you can be a more experienced low carber and you have that to your advantage! |

Bekki, it's very rich and has a different but very good flavor. I can't say it tastes like pumpkin at all with the chicken broth and seasonings. And it seems to freeze very well. And, like most things, it's better reheated the next day. It's pretty filling as well!
|
I was thinking I would leave out the mushrooms or put less in. Do you think I can use
1/2&1/2 instead of HWC? I bought half a gallon 1/2&1/2 instead of HWC. |
I don't see why you couldn't... I used a little guar gum to thicken mine up, so you could always do that to make it "creamier" if you wanted. Same for the mushrooms I'm sure. The kids didn't like the mushrooms in it very much, but I loved them-- they added to the flavor a lot too.

Or this is one of my favorite breakfast foods..and you can customize it to how you like http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...cotta-pie.html Better then Quiche, Ricotta pie Pre-heat oven to 350* Spray an 8 X 8 Glass pan with Pam. 4 eggs 15 oz container of ricotta 2 cups of Mozarella cheese 1/4 cup of grated parmensan cheese Small onion chopped and cooked in butter salt and pepper (add to the onions as you cook in butter) 6 slices of cooked bacon 2 table spoons of dried parsley flakes Mix the eggs, Mozarella, parmensan, Parsely flakes and ricotta. Cook the onions in butter (salt and pepper to taste) until the onions become translucent. Add to the egg and cheese mixture. Cook up 6 slices of bacon. Dry on a paper towel and crumble them. Add this also to the mixture. Spoon the mixture into the prepared glass pan. Bake at 350* for about 1/2 hour. Until the top is a light brown and the "Pie" is firm. Slice into 6 servings. |
Thanks for the quiche recipe, Diane. It looks really good!
Day 14 for me and I'm down a total of 9 lbs! I was starting to worry because the scale stayed the same for a few days there, but looks like I'm okay I've sorta slacked with posting my menu. I've been cleaning all weekend and really busy at work. Yesterday I had: B: black avocado w/1 T low carb italian dressing L: 3-egg cream D: Dr. Carbrite bar The day before: B: 2 sides of sausage and 2 sides of eggs with cheese at McD's (didn't eat all the eggs) L: grilled chicken chopped salad w/blue cheese dressing at Arby's D: burger w/o bun, mushrooms, swiss cheese, and side salad at Red Robin (no dressing) |
Just a quick menu rundown for today:
B: 2 pieces of prime rib beef jerky (late start, so didn't really eat breakfast I guess... just grabbed that on my way out) L: Grilled Chili Lime Buffalo Wings at Hard Times Cafe w/blue cheese & 3 small stalks of celery S: Americano w/ 1/2" heavy cream and SF Vanilla Syrup D: Dr Carbrite bar I did splurge on a few things for a sort-of reward-- Kim Harrison's new book and a Starbucks Travel Mug. I don't "feel" any smaller yet. My back rolls are looking more pronounced even though I'm losing weight. I've never had those before and do NOT like them. They MUST go! Maybe it's just sagging from the loss? In any case, it's not a very flattering look at all. Ick. Makes me all the more motivated to stick to this!! I am having the want to shower twice a day and other indicators that I remember from last time-- I'm pretty positive I'm in ketosis. Yay!! |

Day 15
I wanted to check in while I could this morning. I am happy to report that I did it-- I woke up in enough time to make an egg cream and have that on my way to work as breakfast in my new travel mug instead of a bar! I know I said I wanted a blender, but the immersion blender is crushing to ice okay for now. Eventually I want to wake up in enough time to do a little yoga to get my body moving AND make eggs creams before work. I have to do better with my sleep schedule first. In other news, the scale is still sitting at a total of 9 lbs lost. Same as yesterday. I am so happy with myself so far, as far as my willpower goes. I know I need to work in more activity, but I have been able to avoid low carb tortillas, dreamfields pasta, and all of the processed stuff (except atkins/dr carbrite bars) that threw me off track last time. I've been saying no to sugar free chocolate candy except for the one time too. I bought the kids Girl Scout cookies last night (Tag-a-longs no less) and didn't feel tempted... I did tell the kids to eat them fast though, just incase, LOL. I'm trying to plan ahead my menus better too. Tonight we'll have salmon with cucumber dill cream sauce and broccoli for dinner. I'll make some brown rice with it for the kids. |
Day 16
UGH!!! I gained back 2 lbs! :( It could have been one of three things that I can think of yesterday: 1. the chicken spiedini without the potatoes that I had at Olive Garden for lunch yesterday-- maybe there were hidden carbs in the seasoning? It was only chicken on a skewer and squash with Italian seasonings though. 2. I bought coconut oil, and I ate almost a tablespoon of the stuff. I figured since I am having so much success with egg creams and have thyroid trouble, well, maybe it will help to have the straight oil. I don't think this is it either. 3. Likely culprit-- "cookies" I made with Carb solutions shake mix, butter, eggs, and some peanut butter. I looked, and the shake mix has soy as the top ingredient. Also, maybe nuts are a problem for me. Even so, I only ate five small cookies. Surely that didn't cause me to gain 2 lbs back, could it? I made a huge batch, so I have a bunch in the freezer. I lived on this stuff last time when I had all of the success on low carb. Then again, I don't think I had the autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimotos) back then. They say soy is very bad for the thyroid. Coconut is supposed to be awesome. I sure hope it's not the soy, because I was looking forward to those shiritaki tofu noodles at some point when I start really losing. But I've been eating bars and they have soy. Who knows. *sigh* Then again it could be just because. I ate more than I usually do, but I probably don't eat enough calories in a day usually, so I figured it was okay. I am going to have to be more careful because I really want to lose this weight! Yesterday: B: 2-egg cream (used light coconut milk because that is all I could find at the store the night before-- definitely didn't taste as good OR fill me as long as usual... have found regular since and will feed remaining can of light to the children or use to cook chicken in or something) L: Olive Garden salad (basically ate just the lettuce, grated cheese, small slice of tomato, and vinaigrette dressing they use). about 6 oz chicken, zucchini, yellow squash (probably about 1/3 cup each). (this was the Chicken Spiedini at Olive Garden without the potatoes). S: 20 slices of pepperoni and 1 oz cheddar D: about 6 oz salmon with cream/dill/cucumber low carb sauce (didn't wind up eating the broccoli since I pretty much covered veggie intake for the day at lunch) S: about 5 shake mix peanut butter cookies (at about 1.1 g carbs each) |
I think it is a good idea to keep an eye on your menus, but you are weighing every day, so lets not forget about those dang scale fluctuation days okay..
Where do you get your Carb Solutions mix? I have gotten some from Amazon but that is the only place I find it. BTW, I have a really good chocolate crust using the chocolate carb solutions mix if you are interested I really give you credit for the way you track everything...I know I should as well but.... |
Okay. Called Olive Garden and ruled out the chicken. The seasoning is an Italian marinade of extra-virgin olive oil, rosemary, garlic, salt, and pepper. Then I looked online. Looks like the whole dish is 10 net grams of carbs (and that is with substituting broccoli for potatoes, which I didn't do, so I ate even less than this, especially considering I left like 1/2 c squash on my plate too).
Can you tell I'm obsessing about this? I'm just so bummed I gained back TWO pounds. I am bagging up those evil protein cookies and shoving them in the back of the freezer... will try them again once I get back down to what I was and test it out. If the same thing happens again, then I know for sure. |

Ya know......... I didnt mean to come here..... but I saw your post on Diane's page about the idea to motivate you for a mini-goal... well I didnt see it on her page
so I came here to lurk to see... well of course ya just cant help but to look around and read....haha... and I laughed when I read your post... Quote:
( Sugar Free ones ) and..well looked at the carb count...and sugar alcohols I thought...ok...for 5 of them 7 carbs...so...if I ate just 2...I would be ok... well...I ate 2 later ....and then 1 later..... Maaan Why why why did I buy those..!!! I even had a splurge meal of the week that night !! so was just.... shot for that night. So...I SOOO know what you are feeling like.... BUT I go up and down with 2 lbs all the time...No worries.. YOU know what you are eating.... what are you doing for exercise.???? hmmmm..??? You want motivation.......well this is the place to be..! Quote:
Ok... I dont know much other than what I read here... but.... Olive garden... ( even if you didnt have salad ..and not sure what you drank ( diet soda ?) I know there is a LOT of sodium in that chicken seasoning....the dressing and diet soda's And...to further your challenge....hashimoto's.... that is the hardest thing to fight against... ( I am no Dr. haha...but.. I have had to women in my life afflicted with that.. my Ex-wife and good friend of mine.. ) both weigh between 165 and 195 in their highs and lows over the years... and as you KNOW it is SOOO much easier to put it ON than to take it off.. they are both on Thyrolene... and have to be. But...they have to battle it with the diet...AND exercise... its a balance...and then it is STILL hard... and...lastly.. umm.. you are a girl...and well.... again from just knowing a few here and there on this WOE... you could be close to ....well..'water retention time of the month' your body holds onto the fat and the water just "before".... So........ those 2 lbs...you are dealing with perhaps just more than the Protein Cookies.. the sodium....( and not drinkin enough water to flush it last night after dinner ) the hashimoto's and...perhaps the last one. So........there ya go................ my 14 cents worth......... haha... |
