~DaisyHair’s Diary~

Well I have done very well, weight loss wise, over the last month. Actually a month exactly as of yesterday.

I have done Atkins very low carb (under 10carbs most days) and I am down 15#.

But the high fat (80% per fitday) and very high protein are really making me feel “off”.

I have had liver and gallbladder issues in the past and feel this is what is coming on again.

Last time this happened I totally went full blown veggie and had so many carbs (overdid the fruit on a liver cleanse) and all the fruit sugar along with some other issues (family oriented) caused me to go totally off track for a couple of months and gain almost 30# back.

I have to admit I feel a bit lost right this minute. It’s very frustrating as I really have low carb down and had a good groove going but I have to change things up for me. Somehow it just does not feel like what my body wants right now.

I have been doing vegetarian on and off for years.
I am researching ways to do veggie –low carb – medium fat.

A liver cleanse (again) is in my future also.

I have been surfing and reading allot today. There are several persons that are veggie here.. TaDa being one (have been reading her journal) and I feel like my body has always leaned more toward feeling this is me.

I think I will always eat some meat every now and again. Especially fish as I love it. I will have to see where this all leads me. I already feel better (was starting to get that pressure under my right rib I used to get – not full blown pain like I had with my gallbladder last time, just feeling “off”.

Last night we had fish and rice and veggies (my fav. sushi place) and cut way back on fat. (I got the recipe for their fantastic ginger dressing! yum)

I feel much better and today has been totally veggie. I did have some fat today (1 oz cheese and about 30 almonds for lunch) and it didn’t bother me.

Dinner is Basmati and Garbonzo’s Vindaloo style. One of my very fav. veggie meals..

Every day is new for me and I know I can handle anything that comes my way. I am looking forward to learning more about myself and continuing on my journey.

Good Morning Twyla,

Thank you so much for posting. It means so much to me.

I actually feel GREAT this morning. I was very careful to not add in carbs that I knew were triggers (cereals, particular types of fruit like bananas or melons or any type of bread YET)..

My food yesterday..

-Two apples (one type of fruit I know I never have any issues with AND very good for my liver) for breakfast (going to eat fruit in the AM only).

-I had Basmati brown rice and an apple with 1 oz cheese for lunch

-30 almonds as a snack around 4pm

-Dinner was Garbanzo beans, a little onion and Basmati brown rice with Vindaloo spice (Penzeys dot com - LOVE that place - good spices really can make a difference in your food). It was great.

Under 1000 cal (not enough I know - working on that - but I ate when I was hungry) and around 90 carbs (which I still consider fairly low carb)...

I know it's not enough protein and I am working on that.. thinking I will make some kind of egg casserole for lunches for the next few days.. have to figure it all out.

What is very interesting to me and also proof that I did the right thing is that I didn't gain ANY weight, actually it looks like I am down a half pound this morning.

This amazes me because I was stalled the last 12 days.

Thank you again for your thoughtful post.
You are an inspiration to me for sure.

Hi Daisy,

I am so happy to see you here

I have changed things up a bit and journaled about it. It is truly about listening to what resonates with each of us...in our own skin...ya know?

Your menu sounds delicious and very healthy! It reminds me of Fawn and how she eats.

Hugs Honey! I will follow your journey as long as you share it.

Peace

Hi Jaimie!

Oh it's so good to see you! Thank you for supporting me.
It helps me so much. I am very emotional about this so far. It's been heart wrenching and I was very afraid to change. I know that I was given signs I am doing the right thing. (energy better, mood good AND a half pound gone after a two week stall!)..
signs for sure.. that I am very thankful for.

Thank you dear,
Cary~

Wow,
Today was a fun trip to the store!

I loved how everyone looked at all the veggies in my cart and smiled!

I got several kinds of lettuce, fresh beets, turnips, red and green bell peppers, onions, shallots, cucumbers, zucchini, ginger, broccoli, lots of apples (10 pounds - for my cleanse), pink grapefruit, blueberries, parsley, green onions and artichokes. (love artichokes)..

I had one lady ask me if I was vegetarian.

I am making a large salad with roasted turnips and my homemade balsamic vinaigrette.. (Balsamic, lime juice, EVOO, crushed garlic, chopped fresh parsley, chopped shallots, salt, pepper and Dijon) trust me this is GREAT dressing! I got the recipe from an old Julia Childe cookbook in college.. it's still my all time fav.

I feel good. so far no cravings. I am actually not all that hungry.
having beets and avocado for lunch (sort of an Rx for my liver/gallbladder from my naturopath) want to use bread to make it a sandwich.. but waiting a while on adding Ezekiel.

I bought a couple more herb plants for my garden.. one thyme and a lemon balm.. love lemon balm in salads.

Wow, I feel good.

Wow,

My energy is REALLY coming! I can't believe how good I feel.
Around 3PM today I just felt like getting out and going on another walk..

I did my old 2.5mile route in 50 min! I am SO exhausted but I am so proud of myself.

That is 4.5miles today!
(did 2 this morning).

This is absolutely what I needed!

I have some greenbeans roasting in the oven to make those "Fries".. they are so good.
They are going to be my late afternoon snack. Need to actually ADD some fat so I added a T EVOO and tossed them in it.. yum.

Ok..

This is so strange..

I just got on the scale (not sure why - being that it's late in the day, just had a feeling like I wanted to) and I am down 2 pounds! Talk about divine!

This is amazing..
lots of exercise today, maybe that is what has done it - well actually it is just that I have energy! I am sure adding the complex carbs was exactly what I should have done, now. I have been stalled for almost 2 weeks!
can't wait to get on the scale in the AM! OMG!

Good Morning!

Well it's another wonderful morning. I can really also tell my mood is lifted.

Today is going to be a busy day, I already have my walk in and am thinking of working in a little Yoga this afternoon (good for my liver!).

I need to work on my herb garden a bit. I want some more Lemon Verena! I LOVE that herb in ice water in the summer. It's wonderful.

My food today is going to be light, I am really hardly hungry at all right now but I made myself eat my apple after my walk. (I am going to be doing allot of apples because the Maltic Acid helps dissolve gall stones.).

I bought beets to roast, I was going to do them yesterday (also for my liver) but I was a little worried that the sugar would be a problem. I need to do it so I will have them with the avocado today for lunch.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Jaimie!

Thank you dear! Hope your day is going grand as well.

I have to say my head is spinning. I have been reading and making notes all day. I am trying to decide rather to treat my candida or do a liver cleanse first.

There is so much info out there. I have done a liver diet/cleanse in the past with pretty good results but now I am pretty sure I have candida and since part of the liver diet is fruit and beets, well I just am confused what to do first.

I think I have found an answer on curezone dot com.
Everyone is saying to work on my liver and it will help the candida in the long run.

I know there is a candida forum here, I need to go say hi and read more but I just can't find time yet.

I have found I can buy Maltic Acid instead of eating all the apples which might help but there seems to be no way around the beets.. which I LOVE anyway. so....

I have been having fruit and dont' seem to have any problem with it but I know from the past things can change quickly for me.

Gearing up to start my four day cleanse on next Wed (so the flush falls on Sat)..
Hope to get the Maltic acid by then.

Well I think I have had a "WOW" moment.

I believe I just found out I am actually having bloating from die off of candida and NOT necessarily Liver/Gallbladder issues!

That is amazing!
Thank you Fawn!

I feel better.
Still gonna do a liver cleanse.. can't hurt - especially with the Candida dying off!

Good Morning!

And it is a great morning here. I took Sukiyaki for his walk

(he is NOT liking the leash or his harness at all - I am sure he will catch on soon enough - he is still so young).

It's so beautiful out. I feel great. I have this sort of calm feeling that I get when I am doing pretty much everything (food, spiritual, exercise, environment) right.

I am still doing more research on foods/herbs/help for my liver. I have decided I don't thin it was liver/gall bladder distress (I had bloating and this "full pressure" feeling) I was dealing with, I believe it was die off from my hitting the candida cleanse hard.

I am taking Oreganol oil, Coconut oil and Candigone and a good probiotic so I am sure I had some die off going on and one sure sign is bloating and feeling very uncomfortable.

I am glad now because I know I can go lower in carbs and higher in fat.

Before I get back into very low carb I am going to go ahead and do my liver cleanse since I have already geared up for it. I have my Maltic acid and ACV and lots of green veggies/lettuces and a ton of apples and beets and I am also making a veggie soup for the day after the gall/liver flush.

This is all going to be thru by next weekend so I will plan on looking at getting back on VLC probably in about a week and a half.

I did my salt water (Celtic Grey SeaSalt) flush this am and actually felt pretty ok. I did have good "results".

I am actually not sure I even have to go that very low.. I might actually get back on with OWL levels. Maybe shoot for 35-40 carbs a day and see how I do.

Man.. I know one thing! I sure MISS my espresso!~ Not sure how much longer I can hold out!

It's great you found what works for you!

We are all so different, the way we look, our personalities, what our bodies need to function optimally. You are eating wholesome, whole foods- the ones YOU need to look and feel your best.

It can be hard sometimes, to buck the tide and eat all the fruits and veggies and grains when some parts of the boards are filled with deep-fried-bacon recipes and people questioning whether a fresh tomato is too high carb (OK, I'm exagerating, a little).

I've been reading a marathon book lately, written by a man who has run 111 marathons and coached thousands of successful marathoners, so he knows his stuff. He kind of sneers at Atkins and recommends HUNDREDS of carbs a day. It niggles at you (am I doing the right thing? Maybe he's right?), but I know that wouldn't work for ME. I'd be tripping other runners 'cause I fell asleep by a water table.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I just saw your journal on the way to mine and wanted to say hi. great job on the running BTW.

Yesterday Cals/Carbs:
1406 - 133

Well so far today has been a very interesting day.

I did my first salt water flush this AM (gearing up for my liver/gall cleanse next week).

I used good salt so it was really not that bad (ok.. it sucks but it was WORSE last time with just normal seasalt).

This time I used a different salt - Redmond's RealSalt, it had a better taste.. more like very salty chicken broth, well without the chicken.

I did it a bit different than last time (drinking 32oz salt water) and made 16 oz with the same amt of salt (2 teaspoons - somewhat rounded) and had a large 18oz glass of ice water with.. Each time I would take a gulp of the salt water I would follow it with the ice water. This really helped much more this time. Last time I threw it up half way through.

Anyway.. it worked in about an hour and well.. there it is.

I am planning another one on Monday and then starting my 3 day cleanse on Tuesday (decided to go ahead and not wait till Wed.)..

I am already eating my apples and lots of veggies (well not today as I had to wait around 8 hours to eat).

Today at 2pm I had an apple.. I actually was surprised I was not very hungry.
Then about 2:30 I had an entire avocado - man it was GOOD!

I am very satisfied. (good fat!) and feel fine.

Didn’t weigh today.. will in the am…

It is interesting that I have not been very hungry BECAUSE I am supposed to get my TOM today.. I had no idea as I don't' keep track anymore, but normally I am UP in weight and having cravings for salty/sweet combo.

I was very surprised to see I am not!

How in the world am I not having PMS and crazy ass cravings? This is wonderful!

Wow.

Tonight is a salad and a bit of chicken breast.
Poor Patrick - he misses Atkins! (so do I).

Just a couple of weeks!

Hi Daisy!

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and see how you were doing. It looks like you've tweaked your WOE. Your menu looks pretty interesting and I'm glad that it's working for you. That extra energy is definitely a plus. I'm glad you're doing well though, and I'm jealous that you're eating fruit. I'm loving my Atkins results right now, but I am missing my fruit!

Take care and keep up the good work

BTW, that Sukiyaki is a cutie!

Hi everyone!
Thank you so much for dropping by! It made me smile and I needed it!

I am struggling so much!

Well the last two days have been very hard.
I am working on a liver cleanse (had started it and decided to go thru with it.. only two more days!).

I am drinking allot of apple juice and beet juice and it’s really making me crave.

Yesterday I was craving fat SO bad (have had almost 0 fat the last 4 days) that I made whipped cream and ate a HUGE (like ¾ C) amount of it on strawberries. It really helped and I was able to continue on with my veggie/fruit day. BUT all the fat probably set my cleanse back..

This has been such a viscous circle for me. I do so good in general on LC. Have controlled appetite, feel full quickly (all the fat and protein!), lose weight (albiet slowly BUT it is the only way I seem to be able to lose any weight any more.)..

I know I have had (probably still do) hyper-insulinemia. I used to have a beige ring around my neck that several years ago I realized was a condition called acanthosis nigricans and caused by too much insulin in my blood stream.. this pretty much cinched the LOW carb lifestyle for me.

I did so good for a long time.. lost a lot of weight but started having pain and bloating that I was pretty sure was my gallbladder/liver. All the fat I thought (now I am not sure.. could have been candida die off)..and I went on my liver cleanse (this was LAST time).. that lead to feeling better liver wise but I ended up having so many cravings from the fruit that I gained over 20# back.

Got back on LC did great (lost 15 of it) and then the liver (I thought/think) issues started again. SOOOO back on liver cleanse.. but this time I am NOT going to go crazy and gain all the weight back (have gained 3 but It is just water).. I am doing my flush Thurs. nite.. giving myself a few days to recover (eating lots of veggies for minerals) and then BACK on low carb.

I want to about eating a little lower fat.. (NOT low fat – just lower – with healthy fats) and less red meat.. more chicken and fish and avocados and nuts for my fat.

I am going to figure this out! I am never going to give up.

Hi Ya Cary

I love your "I am never going to give up" attitude! It is so important to have a positive outlook. I wish I had some sound advice for you, but I struggle so much myself, I don't think I have anything more informative to offer.

Do you feel good when you eat the lower fat meats like fish and chicken? There must be some "key" in each of our bodies as to what is the best way to fuel ourselves...I guess the journey is really about finding what that "key" is and using it to unlock the door to success!!

Hugs and encouragement

Ok.. so I have been off the Oil of Oregano, Coconut oil and Candigone for several days now and I still have discomfort and bloating in my liver area. (thought the bloating was die off of the candida - but I guess not).

I guess it is my liver/gallbladder after all. I have EVEN been pretty low fat.
Tomorrow nite is the flush (finally!) and it's been very difficult being so low fat and eating so much fruit (loved the fruit but not what it does to my hunger!)..

I have been eating Amy's organic veggie meals.

Tomorrow is a TOTALLY fat free day (fruit only till around 11:30 then a beet and veggie juice for lunch and then no food after 2pm until the Liver flush at around 10pm.

Last time I got relief almost immediately..
I am going to do another one in 3 weeks.. have to order some Phos drops.. and Maltic acid.. NOT eating all these apples next time.

Going back onto induction as soon as I can.. going to try to keep the fat somewhat down but will see.

Good night everyone!

Daisy,

I hope you feel better after your flush. You have amazing willpower to have completed the liver cleanse. I have a friend that does these occasionally and you must be very disciplined. I really hope that it relieves your bloating. I know you're anxious to get back to low carbing.

Hi Kia!

Thank you dear,
I am excited that it is finally going to be over.

Making sure to keep good notes!.

Liver Flush Day.. 3-26-09

This is my second liver flush. But I am counting it really as my first as the first one was almost a year ago..

I am planning on doing one every 4 weeks and going back and forth from LC to Liver diet each time.. staying on the liver diet for a week then doing my flush and getting back on LC for a month. I will do this until I get no more debris from my liver. Last time I had LOTS of debris and felt instantly better.

Going to make sure to take good notes so I can tweak it each time.

Had an apple first thing in the AM

Made apple juice (two apples) next and watered it down to drink

Around noon had a dry toasted Ezekiel Eng. Muffin..

Just chopped up some veggies.. was planning on eating them with a pita around 2pm for my last meal today but it’s already after 1pm and I am not hungry..

Started drinking (about 2 T) ACV in a little leftover watered down apple juice just now.. read it is good do to for several days to soften gallstones.. will have to do that next time.

I am looking forward to getting this one done.
Patrick is off tomorrow to take care of me! He offered foot rubs and to roast my sweet potato for lunch and to make my juices for the day (have to do lots of veggies and fruits for a couple of days after to make sure to replace any lost electrolytes)..

I am planning on going back to LC on Tues. or Wed. next week.. will do induction levels.

Have to go mix my fresh red grapefruit juice and Epsom. Yum (not).

Ha! Ya. it's NOT fun but it works and I felt so much better last time. I believe part of my problem with such slow weight loss is my liver not metabolising fat well enough. I have read so many cases of this being a problem and I have slightly elevated liver enzymes.

Thanks for the good luck wishes! I am going to be just fine.. actually can't wait for some freaking BACON and eggs!!!

Hi Jaimie!
