Hmmm. The only pics I have are the ones posted in my Journal already. Maybe I should do some others and see what happens. I don't think I want bikini shots on the nernernets though.

I did Callanetics once. It hurt. :|

Maybe I should get back into that.

I'm not good at sticking with a Challenge Group but I'm happy to update your (and my) Journals pretty much every day. Would that work for you? If not we can try a Challenge thread but I tend to be slack with those.

Cookie,

I think that you can find good snack ideas. Almonds, yogurt, things like that. I am not sure what is allowed on the south beach plan as I am not really on Southbeach anymore. My plan has changed a lot. Also, eating frequently is a good thing. I would ask Cindy or anyone on the south beach board for good on the go snack ideas.

Cookie, I need my afternoon snack as well...otherwise I overeat at dinner.

Here are some snacks I enjoy in the afternoon:
-hummus and veggies (like cucumber, pepper strips, baby carrots, celery, grape tomatoes)
-string cheese
-turkey or ham rolled up with a piece of low fat swiss
-roasted chickpeas
-celery w/ natural peanut butter
-a small apple w/natural pb
-a slice of whole wheat bread w/pb
-nuts
-yogurt with berries and/or nuts added in

I've been cutting the nighttime sweet snack lately. Every so often (usually around TOM time) I'll have the SB pb cup or some sf jello. I never really liked the ricotta cremes.

Let's get those beach bodies and peachy behinds together!

Rich - I think that your observation about inconsistent eating is very insightful and true. I tried to plan ahead some snacks for this week... stock up a desk drawer kind of thing... but I went off and left my pecans at home. Drat! No big, I'll go buy some more at lunch time.

Dani - I absolutely love peanut butter and find that one small spoonful is so satisfying. however, natural PB is not available here. I can get skippy creamy or crunchy. So is that still a good option if I am having max 1 tbsp? (Can't remember the allowance on that one.)

I didn't do bad at all this weekend. For the past week I got in 3 sessions of Callanetics and 2 cardio sessions. The goal was 3 and 3 but still, doing 5 workouts in the week is an improvement and I know that I can do it this week. Writing down my action plan helped a lot this weekend. I only had one minor slip but everything else I did according to my plan.

Cookie,

I hope that you have a great week! I am here in the states in one of my can't sleep modes. You and I are a few of the only people on the board right now.

Good snacks are key. You will get it down.

Hey Rich. I was wondering what you were doing up at "that time of the night" (whatever time that may have been in your time zone. You know what, I think you were dead on accurate about the inconsistent eating. I have been hungry and light headed this morning... my normal light breakfast just didn't cut it. So, I wrote down everything I ate in the past 3 days...

yesterday I was busy baking and skipped breakfast. Had a late lunch but a really good one (2 chicken fajitas on homemade whole wheat tortillas with salsa and a light sprinkling of lf shredded cheese). Then was busy getting ready for and jetting off to a party and skipped dinner. At the party I had a couple of beers (which kills any hunger sign) a handful of peanuts and 3 or 4 bites of cake using a little coffee spoon.

Today... FAMISHED!!! Well no wonder considering that I only ate one meal yesterday.

To finish the previous post...

Fortunately, I threw half my fridge into my bag this morning because I didn't feel like assembling my lunch this morning and therefore have enough for at least 2 lunches and a nice snack. So, after my yogurt & banana breakfast, I broke into some of the stuff that I brought for lunch and had a homemade whole wheat tortilla (they are much smaller when you make them yourself...and taste way better) with some lean roast beef.

Ahhhh... my tummy and my brain both feel much much better!

I'm pretty sure it is 2 T. natural PB per day, so I would do 1 T. of the Skippy brand. Once you are back in the states you can get the natural kind. Sometimes I just eat a spoonful of PB as a snack myself...filling and a good source of protein.

You did a great job on exercising this week. Keep up the great work!

That sounds like one of my morning stunts.

Somehow I can manage to take fortyeleven containers to work, but to assemble something before I leave home is just too bigger task.

I need to get my act together and be more prepared. This eating plan works so well when you are armed with the right stuff at the ready.

I didn't manage to work out at the weekend. //sloth I'm aiming to do a few half hour stints on my bike this week though.

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Ok... OW!

Was doing my Callanetics 10/10 on Monday. Truckin along just fine. somewhere towards the very end after the pelvic rotations and thigh stretch, my bum knee let me know that it was very unhappy with something I had done. Not sure exactly what... I think I may have over extended it during a stretch or tried to stretch deeper than my knee wanted me to...

Anyway so yesterday it was feeling a little hinky but I decided to take a walk and see how it felt jogging. Felt fine and got in a good run.

Today... BAD! BAD! BAD! Not as bad as when I totally blew it out and was off work for 2 weeks and restricted mobility for 6 weeks, but still bad enough that jogging or any other impact activity is off the menu. Walking is uncomfortable at this time. You know, it was this injury that brought me to Callanetics in the first place, so Callanetics is where I will stay... WITH THE MODIFICATIONS FOR MY BUM KNEE! I don't use them. I've been trying to strengthen my knee by doing the normal exercises, but I am not an exercise physiologist and shouldn't have tried to treat myself.

Live and learn.

I've done well on my eating plan this week. Am having my weekly wednesday lunch with Alice (my lovely Australian friend) at our fave italian place, but they have a nice chicken caesar salad and also a great dish that has shrimp and scallops on a bed of grilled veggies. A bit too much olive oil on the veggies, though. I know that olive oil is good for you, but I'm not sure about THAT amount of olive oil. Anyway, I will choose one of the two and enjoy it.

Cookie,

Make sure to take proper care of your knee before working it again. You may want to seek the advice of an orthopedic doc. Otherwise, it sounds like you are doing great, staying focused.

Rich - insomnia again?

I have a great doc here who is an orthopedist... I actually referred my marathon-running-triathalon-crazy-uber-fit-Irish friend to her. I will try to get in to see her before I return to the US just as a precaution.

Cookie, I don't know what the deal is. I have been crashing at 10pm and waking up wide awake at 4am. 6hrs isn't bad, I guess?

It is 4:30 now on the east coast.

I am glad that you are having your knee checked out.

Hey Cookie! Be careful with that knee of yours! I also have dodgey knees and have to watch what exercise I do.

Back in January I went on a road trip and climbed down to two waterfalls with about 400 steps at each one ... ouch. I knew it would hurt for weeks after - and it did.

The waterfalls were worth it though.

Cookie,

you may know. Are there any specific leg stretches that are good for the knees. I never stretch and am starting to feel a dull ache just under the knee cap. I need to start stretching.

How is everything going with you?

Rich - I don't know of an knee-specific stretches...but the ortho gave me leg exercises to strengthen the muscles supporting the knees. I know that you are doing a lot of lifting - probably heavy - so the first thing I would think of is to be really careful of your form on squats, lunges, etc. You may need to back off just a little (don't lunge or squat quite as deeply as normal) for a few days. And also, make sure you stretch your hamstrings and quadriceps. I know you will want to "work through it" anyway, but you don't want an injury to slam the breaks on your great momentum. Pull back a bit if you have to. I should have. See... went jogging anyway and wham-o! Learn from my mistakes, campers.

Got up this morning (had insomnia... was actually awake at 4:30... thanks Rich... must be contagious) and actually exercised. I did my hour of Callanetics 10/10. Must find some modifications for the exercises done on the knees.

Eating on plan so far. Dinner out with the girls tonight. We all bought new shoes this week, so we are doing a girly dressy-up night and going to dinner then dancing. 3 weeks till I leave.

Have been a bit blue today because it has started to hit that I am actually leaving. It's a good thing and I am very content with my decision, but there is one person that it is physically painful for me to leave and reality is setting in that I won't be able to just pop down to the pub and spend time with him anymore. We broke up a year ago, but leaving is difficult... necessary but difficult. It takes away the hope of "maybe someday". We are still so close and all of our friends still hope for "maybe someday" for us as well.

I've been having a pretty good day today. Yippee!

Did some housework. With the exception of some chocolate, I have eaten on plan and even exercised...

25 minutes of intervals on the bike, Cathe's Pyramid Upper Body - Up only premix (30 minutes) plus the abs section of Squeeze Stronger. Felt awesome!

I need to be careful because today has been a "not hungry" day which means that either tomorrow or Tuesday will be a ravenous day, so I will need to pre-prep some meals and snacks so that I don't stray. Thankfully tomorrow is a holiday here, so no work... which means that I can do an awesome workout (plan on Super Callanetics) and will have time to pre-prep this weeks meals and get the housework done without so many time constraints.

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful Sunday, whatever you may be up to...May it be filled with a feeling of peace, well-being, contentment, and joy.

Hi Cookie!
I've enjoyed reading your journal, thanks for sharing.

I am an expert with years of experience in feeling "not hungry" and then eating too much later. And I've been doing it lately! Try thinking this way: keep to your meals and snacks, even if you don't want 'em, so your metabolism doesn't slow down.

Emotional stress, too, it's tough. Got to re-center and try to be calm, eh? What are you finding that works?

XXOO - your progress pix have got to make you so proud!!

Laurie - thank you so much for your kind and encouraging message. As much as I hate my "before" pics, they really have been a source of inspiration. There are days when I feel like I will never get out of the "stall" I've been in and I look at the pics and see how far I've come already and they have given me the strength to keep trying and not give up.

This morning I have been sitting at my computer reading and was holding my head up with my hand. I looked over and saw this beautifully defined arm! On me! Hey looky there... it's a nicely rounded shoulder musle then a little dip and a fab bicep (from the angle I was sitting in, you could see the definition of how the muscles wraps around towards the underarm. I ignored the lingering batflap underneath) How cool. Me with muscles.

My son had a friend over yesterday just as I finished my upper body workout and he said "dude, you gotta come check out my mom's biceps". His friend once told him that he shouldn't mess around with his step dad (my ex) because of all the weights in our house. My son said "um, those are my mom's!" Kid said "you better be careful, she could kick your a°°" Hehehe

Ok, off to exercise.

Honestly? I cry.

Most nights lately, I have gone to bed and cried. I've also talked to my 2 closest girlfriends and one friend from high school about my true feelings. Most of us keep our true emotions hidden and put on a happy face. I do that most of the time. But I have chosen a couple of people to share my insecurities with. Most of the time I am really very calm and zen lately, which is nice, but emotions are so complex. Not very long ago Rich lost his dad. One of the things he said was to "feel what you're feeling". That's what I'm trying to do. Just allowing myself to feel what I feel.

Awesome! Feel what you feel. Cookie, it is great that you have chosen your two closest friends to share your feelings with. Stay in touch with your feelings. That is going to help you the most. You need an outlet and you need to stay in touch with your own feelings. A lot of people numb themselves out, not aware of what they are feeling and act out on them.
I am so happy that you have a support system and feel safe enough with your friends to share your feelings.

Hey there! I hope today is going well for you.

I kind of think as the weight peels away more issues are exposed because we no longer have the big weight elephant in front of us to concentrate on ... there is room to deal with other issues and it sometimes feels as though these other things (that have always been there) are now magnified.

At least that's what I have found when I've lost a lot of weight before. //allaboutme :|

Got up this morning and exercised.

25 minute interval cardio on the bike plus Pyramid Upper Body - Down Only premix. I can not imagine ever doing the entire pyramid (up then down... I'm dyin after the down only.)

Ate on plan yesterday. Have an on plan day planned for today.

Have a great week!
