JRod's Weight loss journal
Here I go....first post......... I am on this mission...... headed in the right path.... I suppose
that getting here to this weight was easy..... the hard part is getting out of it.... I lived my life heavier from 1995 to 2000 got up to 360 lbs.... then Found Atkins at the hype of time.... and I went to the gym and loved the way of life..in 11 mo lost 100 lbs.... then....the next 6 mo..lost the other 50... I struggled daily to stay at 200 lbs.... I ran 5 miles a day and biked 10.... on Sundays I would ride "for fun" 30 miles... my body ( at 6'2" ) wanted me to be about 220....I was happy there..... but Dualthon training lead and kept me at 200..... then one day 5 yrs later 2005....I got hit by a car while riding my bike on a country road.... 3 back surgeries and physical therapy later..... came chiropractic care.... I couldnt work out anymore.... I couldnt ride in that leaned forward position...I couldnt run.... I got depressed I ate.... I ate and gained... then..I got depressed and when I got depressed I ate....a bad cycle... for 2 yrs I gained back 70 lbs... and then I got the green light from my Dr's I could work out again.......... but by then.. I got lazy....... and well.... then attempted LC life again..... and...lost 20 lbs... and something came up here or there...I stopped and then eventually gained it back plus 10 more... Divorce...and dating life...and then re-married and job changes..... from 2006 to 2008... I put on more weight....so....as I weighed in in Jan 2009.... 348 lbs... it was time.. I dabbled in it for a month....and went to the gym here and there....dropped 10... and then End of Jan....another set-back in love relationships... so...... I said... THAT IS IT.... TIME FOR ME !!! So...my START date... was Jan 18 2009....and today my Day I am now here...... March 9th 2009 I have lost 26 lbs.... and going to the gym 5 days a week.... Strict now.... And... time to start a thread for ME..... my journal to a better Me. |

I put my initial Journal ( thread ) in the Lounge area....not the right place I think. should be here in the weight loss that is why I am here and to meet other LC peeps who are having the same issues I am ......... so..... here I BE.... |

I am freakin frustrated......... I am stalled....and not sure why......
Well I have dabbled with Flax bread buns and mini flax muffins..... has anyone used or heard of the Joseph's Lavash Bread ?? the only place I have seen it locally sold here in Houston is at the Deli area in Wal-Mart ( by the Hawiian bread ) I seen it here on Netrition.com ( Joseph's Middle East Bakery Lavash Bread ) Now this is reaalllllly good... Low carb high fiber perfect for wraps or anything really. 1 big piece has 100 cal and 4 net carbs....All fiber no sugar. now...... here is my delima.... I use 1/2 of these each day for lunch recently that going straight meat and cheese wraps... I now use a lil mayo and the 1/2 wrap.. So 50 cals and 2 net carbs..... it is made of flax, oat bran and whole wheat. My days of makin flax muffins or buns are over !! haha..... Just passing on some info in case no one has heard of them... now....my down fall ( cuz of the sodium ) is the 2 hand fulls of plain pork rinds I eat along to get "my crunch" factor w/ the wrap...... I THINK......though this new routine has slowed my losing..... I have been staying at the 25-26 lb loss mark ( in 50 days ( since Jan 18th ) for about 8 days.... but the logic is 2 net carbs and the 1 for the cheese slice and the 1 for the meat I am at 4 for lunch.... dinner is meat and salad.... breakfast is 2 boiled eggs and snack is a atkins choc protein shake.. soooo why my stall.......!! My Gym Cardio is the same....5 -6 miles and 10 swimming laps.... I should be still dropping the weight.... Ideas anyone ?? |

Just wanted to stop by and tell you welcome!
You are so right.. it IS TIME FOR YOU! I lost down to goal as well a couple of years ago and had some horrid things happen and gained it all back... You know how to do it! You will do it again. I love this site.. I actually have to try to stay away some during the day to get anything done in my business. (home based business).. I spend so much time here. Stalls came and went for me, I never really knew exactly what was causing them.. the KEY is not giving up and for me, when I had a stall more than 3 weeks, I cut all cheese and just did meat, eggs and salads. Also I would up my water and cut all diet sodas. Just keep on keepin' on!

Jarrod..I love those Joseph's Lavash wraps. There is a post in the recipe forum of wrapping it around a cooked hot dog and heat in a pan..reminds me of bagel dogs!!! If you are eating the pork rinds are you drinking water to flush out that sodium? Maybe try plugging in your foods into fitday and see where you are..carbs have a way of sneaking in on us. Kudos on the exercise as well!!! ![]() ![]() With the exercise how do your clothes feel? The scale isn't our only tool..so maybe you are losing some inches and the scale hasn't shown you yet. KUTGW

Well Wednesday ( or Humpday ) it is......... and I got up.... hit the scale..
begged it to be freakin nice to me today !! I hit the reset button... stepped on it as "lightly" as possible... haha ( does anyone else do that or just me...when you get on the scale do you just step up on it...or do you step real lightly as to not shock it ! ) haa... maybe its just me.....annnywho.... I got on it...and down 2 lbs....! But...those are the 2 lbs I gained last weekend.....having a Cheat Meal ..... So....I feel good there are 2 more good solid work out days left in the week.... I WILL be good this weekend... I WILL be good this weekend.... THE bad thing is......... BAD BAD BAD.... I have free tickets to a Suite Night concert With Clint Black... ( at the Houston Rodeo... ) now this Rodeo and livestock show isnt some lttle thing...it is TEXAS size and runs 2 weeks... google the dang thing to see all the concerts there are nightly.... well I seen Trace Adkins last week... was pretty good.. but this weekend its a private suite... so... there is chance to meet clint himself.. But...here is the bad part.. All the food and drink you want... ok......did you hear ( read ) that..?? ALL the food and drink you want.. I KNOW there will be food there I love...and cant eat...bbq.... and..there will be collllld beer...which I cant have........ this is like torture.. the 1 time I ever score a thing like this....a private suite tickets for 50 people.. and the concert... free parking...you name it.. VIP status..... I will be pickin at chicken with no bbq sauce....and drinkin water.... ( I do have to say I am not a big country fan.... but.. I like all kinds of music ) so.... I am good....plus did I mention it is a private suite with ALL the food and drink I want included.?? I will see how I negotiate this.....lil bbq a couple beers....and then to the gym on Sunday for a 60 min sweat workout and steam room treatment ! haha.. Ok........ to better things.... does anyone watch the Biggest Loser ?? I think my boy Filipe looked like the "biggest whinner" last night... I mean come on...it is a two way street w/ Jillian he has to meet her half way.. not ignore her as she did him....... oh well.... It all comes out at the end........ Diane........ ![]() hahaha i do the exact same thing with the scale... i step as delicately as i can on to it, thinking maybe i can trick it or something for some reason i always feel like a ton of bricks in the morning when i weigh myself, so i'm extra cautious lol.omg that suite concert sounds like the ultimate test of will power. i hope have fun in a low carb way ![]() |

This was my scale routine...sneak up on it, talking nicely to it then step on it ever so lightly with one foot then gradually step on with the other foot, then pray!!!! oy the things we do
You know Houston Rodeo is a big deal when the kids get a day off from school!!! Big Trace Adkins fan, although I like his ballads more than his silly songs. I think the suite sounds like FUN...just keep your goals in mind Jarrod..maybe eat before you go and NO BEER...you know it won't be worth it..think of all that time you spend in the gym...and you see what happened to those guys on Biggest Loser...they cheated and drank, and didn't lose too much. Maybe you will get to meet Lisa Hartman too.... Can't wait to hear all about it For hot dogs -- I hear ya..I usually get the Hebrew National or Nathans and I got some at Costco, I think Colemans, and they have no nitrates...but man were those things good. |

I know this site has for the last couple days...kept me more accountable in my routine...my food my exercise.... so.... by having new friends that are right there with me....... I am in ! I AM sooo glad most of us do the "step lightly" on the scale....as if we wont hurt it..so it will be good to us..!! ( I know this might be TMI ... but I also try to squeeze every ounce of pee outta me before I get on the scale....as if... that 1 oz extra will push me over...haha... Quote:

Good Morning anyone reading this....... Well....down a .5 lb...haha Hey...
My Health-o- something or other scale is accurate.... and digital...so when it says...321.5....I say.... .5 ! haha... then...I went to the gym.... worked out...4 mi on the elip trainer.... and then 1 mile ( jog/walk jog/ walk ) on the treadmill..... 52 min Cardio....goood sweat....then after shower....got on the scale at the gym...( which used to be off my like 1 lb... ( one of those Dr. Scales...) today....it said....310...!???? how did I lose 11 lbs of sweat.?? hahaa I KNOW that scale is not right.. ( OR..??? is mine at home messed up.. now wonder I been stuck around these 5 lbs for 2 weeks..!! ) haha... I dont know... Will be back later for visit !! |

haha I wish there was too something wrong with my house scale...as long as I keep seeing loss I am happy....but I KNOW that gym scale is off... there was a guy on it about 5 min after I was on it in the locker room... I was gonna ask him if it seemed
right to him..... but...kinda didnt wanna bother and talk to him when he was standing on it naked..! somethings....I just dont do...talk to naked men one of them ! haha... I gave into the lil test of nuked Pepperoni slices last night..and came out good...crispy.....bacon like flavor..I laid out 10....ate 10... while I was cookin my 2 pork chops.... I drank my water last night...but between the pepp chips and pork chops... I think I retained a lil water this morn....had a .5 loss. haha.... Today Meal B: 2 boiled eggs, 1 sausage patty L: one LC ham and provolone wrap Snack will be a protein shake.. D: hhmmm...chicken breast of some sort...havent figured it out yet. |

Lol@ stepping gently on to the scale! ![]() I do the same exact thing...as if it would really make a difference? And I don't know about everyone else, but I weigh multiple times. Something in my brain is telling me that maybe the scale will be kinder if I get off and then step right back on ![]() I really feel for you man, having a VIP suite for the Clint Black concert and being limited in your food/drink choices. I'm not going to sugarcoat things, that really sucks ![]() The good news is that while everybody else is scarfing down beer and bbq, you will STILL be losing weight! You can enjoy the night and still stay on plan. No worries. Also, good for you working out on the elliptical machine for 50 minutes. I hate that thing!!!

I just use the mcormick. It is only 3 carbs per serving. But I am not using that much so it doesn't add up. One of the packets lasts many breakfasts.

More About Me.......
Well I am a Foodie !! I love food... and I love the food I eat...the Low carb way. In the past to lose weight I have tried...Slim fast...and shakes.. Also Low Cal...and low fat... Nutri-system..( that works if you stick to the portions.. haha..) Of course I was never "happy" eating that stuff...always hungry and craved FOOD !. When I read the Atkins book that I can have...MEAT...and Cheese and eggs.....bacon...I was like..YEAH I AM IN !! This was in 2000.... ( oh...my story is too long ) but here it is... I got out of the Army after Desert Storm in 93 after 9 yrs in top shape.. I got a good job..and didnt work out any more.. I didnt "HAVE" too...SO I didnt. but ate like I did....... Well..a lil gain here....a lil gain there...by 1999....I got to 360 lbs... In Jan 2000 I read Atkins...and I was in.... gonna DO it ! I did LC WOE and the gym.... and dropped 150 lbs in 18 mo...kept it off (for 6 yrs) did Dualthons ( Run/Bike/Run ) events and races.. I stayed at 195-205.. then I stopped competing and maintained around 210.... In 2004.... I went through a divorce.... and then while training for a Tri-athlon...one sunday morn I was out on my bike...Ipod player in my ears..jammin on the pedals... country desolate road.....a guy pulled outta his driveway at 7am.. there was no cars EVER on that country road on a sunday at 7 am.. ( I used to ride 25-30 mile hard rides...just for "fun") Well this day Oct 05.... there was.. I couldnt avoid it.. we impacted.. and I flipped over the hood of his car...25 feet on my back... well 3 back surgeries later...physical therapy...chiropractic care... steriod injections into my spine... I couldnt ride I couldnt run.... and walking made my leg go numb after 1/4 mile......I had to heal.... So...I was depressed...I ate.... I gained weight ( I just have that DANG "Fat Gene" ) I ate cuz I was depressed about my weight... ugghh...just came back on sooo fast...by 2007...I was at 300.....and in the last 16 mo....the other 48 lbs.... came back.... Jan 2009 New Years Resolutions came... I KNEW I could do it... I got clearence to work out again my my Ortho Dr in 2007... so....I just needed to quit making excuses... But.. I love Mexican food.. I love Italian food.. I am an amazing cook.... ( 3 yrs cooking classes) and...Well I love to create and make food........ soooo...Duh.... Well...... it was time....NO more excuses..... So Gym Membership.... back to the LC way... but NOW...I found this site with all you people here so supportive of each other...and friendly...non-judgemental..... this IS what I need for accountabilty... FOR me ! So.... now I know this is LIFESTYLE..... a way of LIFE....not a "diet".... it is the way that works for me...not hungry....low cravings.... and every now and then when I get under 250...I can have 1 day a week 1 cheat meal... that is my goal... but til then....... its on ! I went through counseling for both during and after my divorce... pulled myself outta my depression of my past and things I been through in my life and done... I know only I....I can make me happy.... and I am here to do that. My life is good... no complaints two great healthy sport fanatic kids ( like I was in School ) my son is 19 in college...my daughter is a soccer freak plays in HS and in a city soccer league... so they motivate ME to be a better me.. So......... I am ready to do this journey....and I welcome anyone who wants to join in or hang out...or be beside me....as long as you want. I am here for you as you all are here for me... this part of My Way of life now is a blessing..... Well I am done rambling............. Jarrod Aka... JRod ! haha.. |

Ones that come to mind are the cauli pizza, taco soup, white castle pie, rev rolls, scalloped turnips, and many many more...Those are just some of my favorites! There's also a thing called Yam noodles that you can get in your local oriental store that you can use for pasta... Yummy, and close to no carbs for the Italian cravings!! I have discovered that you can turn almost any recipe into LC... Dig down way deep inside and pull out your creative side!! Or just ask, and we'll see what we can come up with... |

i feel like a lot of us low carbers are foodies, and that's why it works for us! i love trying new recipes and creating ones... definitely check out linda's recipe website... she lists the carb count and i love taking ideas from the recipes and running with them to create my own twists.

Howdy Ya'll...!! ( ok I dont talk like that... I just type like that ) haha..
I usually type the way I talk ( so I been told ) Well I have had a good day........... gym this morn... 2 miles elip trainer.. and 2 miles on the treadmill 13 min miles a nice good jog.... I am getting there.. ( Flipz... I am on your tail ! .. I too enjoy the prespective from a guy and is about the same size and weight... ( those 30 lbs you have on me..... I am gonnna catch you !! ) haha.... ok.. you are a mad man... probably not... but... will hit the same mile stones you have ! ) Well Breakfast was 2 eggs cheese and ham.... Lunch 1.5 chicken breats ( left over from last night ) Dinner.....ohhhh...not sure... will be hard at the concert tonight..!! haha My chicken I made last night... 4 boneless /. skinless breasts... 1/3 c Sour cream 1/3 c mayo seasonings as you line or want.. mix well.... Parm cheese place breasts in a baking dish ( I flatten mine to they are even not thick on one side to the other ) Place the mixture on the breasts.... and then top with parm cheese... bake at 350 for about 30-40 min....( the parm will brown a bit ) take out...eat ...enjoy........mmmmmm !! ( side salad with ranch dress........that is how I roll !! ) Well I hope all has a good weekend.......!! Jarrod |
