Nice to see you here! Nobody comes by, so I frequently just end up posting my weight then leaving.

Thanks for your comment on my blog wendy. Well, I thought I had it all figured out but I guess I didn't and I am back on raw foods only (fruits, veggies, greens, some nuts & seeds (soaked and/or sprouted) and some sprouted grains) and loving it. I feel so much better when I use plenty of greens in my smoothies and then have green juices, salads, fresh fruit in my hand and stop eating early in the day. It works best for me. I am getting all kinds of inspiration too from my new books from Tonya Zavasta who wrote "Your Right to be Beautiful - The Miracle of Raw Foods" as well as her book called "Quantum Eating" as well as her DVD. This woman is clever, very well educated, funny and just gorgeous and about the most healthy looking 50 something woman I've ever seen. So, I am becoming a Raw Foodist. I am thoroughly convinced this is the way for me to go - though no one ever said such a huge transition from SAD food (standard American diet) to the RAW FOOD lifestyle is easy. I have been eating junk food my whole life. I am determined now to be a shining example of what raw food can do for a person - even a 63 yr old like me. My family will be amazed and I am sure at least one of them - my daughter, will also join me. Let's say about 6 months from now I will check in here and update my journal.

Glad to hear your update. Like I said the other day, I think that it's essential to find what works for you. I don't think that what you do needs to be what I do, so please know that as long as I check in here, I'll encourage you in doing what makes you healthy!

Day number fifty-million of eating right while losing nothing.

OK, so I exaggerated.

It seems that I need to start measuring and calculating calories, again, to see if I really have a problem losing weight or not. I have lost 6 lbs in a month a few times while keeping my calories around 1300/day, but I wonder how much of that was me losing water weight due to not eating sugar and grains.

just a thought and yer gonna laugh...but are you tracking/measuring the ozs. of milk/carbs? carbs in drinks can sometimes wreck an otherwise faithful adherence to low carb and ppl never know what the problem is.....just an idea....

What in the world are you doing awake at this time of night?

Um...yeah...milk. Let's see...3 glasses/day...that shouldn't be TOO many calories nor carbs because it's liquid, so it's kind of like water, right?

I'm just kidding!

Thanks for the idea! While I HAVE been consuming a lot of milk this go-around, and I didn't even think about it (which is REALLY weird for me!! ), I didn't used to drink any, so I don't know what was going on previously.

Starting tomorrow...or Monday I will:
  • enter everything into ****** for 2 months--Sticking to my WOE for 2 months, rather than 1, will show me if I am really losing weight, or if the 6 lbs previously lost each month has only been from losing water weight from limiting simple carbs
  • I will do situps because I want to!
  • I will go to the gym twice/week
  • I will think about going one other time/week w/ family or friends

Hmmm...that's all that I thought of at the moment. Let me know if you think of anything else!

"Jersey milk is in many ways unique. As a product it contains; 18% more protein, 20% more
calcium and 25% more butterfat than average milk."

But I can't find how many more calories that makes. Since I'm counting calories, too, it would be good to know!

Trying to figure this.

1 cup conventional whole milk:
Calories 146
Fat 7.9 g. 71 cal.
Carbohydrate 11. g 44 cal.
Protein 7.9 g. 31 cal.

Jersey milk:
25% more fat..... 7.9 g x .25 = 2 more grams. 7.9 + 2 = 9.9 grams fat/cup
18% more protein ... 7.9 g x .18 = 1.4 more grams. 7.9 + 1.4 = 9.3 grams protein/cup

Fat calories:
If 7.9 g = 71 cal, then each gram = 8.99 cal. 9.3 g x 8.99 cal = 83.6 calories/cup from fat.

Protein calories:
If 7.9 g = 31 cal, then each gram = 3.92 cal. 9.9 g x 3.92 = 38.8 calories/cup from protein.

If the carb count remains the same, and I don't know if it does, then Jersey milk looks like this:

Calories 167
Fat 9.3 g. 84 cal.
Carbohydrate 11. g 44 cal.
Protein 9.9 g. 39 cal.

At least, that's how it appears w/ my midnight math going on! I'll have to recheck this tomorrow to see if it's right.

I am glad to know what you are doing. I thought you were counting carbs. an average tea glass is about 16oz right? so if you are pouring that milk into a tea glass without measuring you could be getting twice as much as you think....are you measuring your other foods or are you pretty good at eyeballing it by now? and it would be a great benefit to take 3 days and measure everything u eat if u have the time and patience.....sometimes I got comfy and sloppy with my portions on LC and needed to go back and refresh myself on what 2oz of cheese REALLY LOOKED LIKE. just some thoughts, no pressure or criticism.

167 per 8ozs then? pour yourself a glass like you've been drinking then pour that into a measuring glass and see what u get? at least you'll know if you have been undercounting the cals.,....or don't. I am not the boss of Wendy.

I REALLY appreciate any thoughts or ideas! Please and thank you!

I WAS doing Atkins Induction, but w/ only 12 or fewer carbs (including, not excluding, fiber) because it's the only way that I've lost while doing low-carb, but I quit losing that way, so I decided to try something closer to what my ND had recommended. Imagine that! Actually trying what the doctor said!

Here's my plan, per my ND

high-protein, moderate complex carb, low-fat diet and exercise w/

40% animal protein
50% low-gylcemic vegetables
10% fruits (preferably berries)/seeds/nuts

I haven't done the lowfat part because I don't think that it's necessary. My cholesterol went down while doing this WOE above (but w/ high fat) and I wasn't hungry, and I liked my food, so I haven't yet thought of a reason to change it to lowfat. (Any ideas about why I might want to consider it are appreciated!)

I almost never use artificial sweeteners, and most of my food is organic, whole, free range, and I try to find grass fed.

So...basically Atkins w/ a little berries, and w/o counting carbs, but w/ counting calories. I do keep track of them, and they're usually anywhere from 20ish to 80ish. With the MILK lately, though...who knows?! I haven't been tracking anything lately.

Oh, so when I have done the above thing, I have lost 6 lbs/month, but I've only done it for one month at a time, which has really led me to wonder if it really works for me, or if I've just lost water weight, you know?

Thanks for reading, and for giving me your ideas when you have them! Don't feel pressure to try to figure it out for me, though, OK? It's not your job! I just welcome any thoughts.

Today's weight
200 -- but I weighed later than usual, so it should've been lower than usual

Today's food
breakfast/lunch
2 duck eggs w/ half and half, erythritol, cinnamon, and vanilla in butter
466 calories, 40 gr fat, 11 carbs, 21 gr protein

11 carbs?! Oh yeah...erythritol has carbs, and half and half has more than HWC.
