Gained 8 lbs on prednisone--got upto 170.


Been on lc this week, but I ate bean-flour coated appetizers, pappadum (lentil flour), lentil soup, and some rice--oh, and then some mango ice cream & coconut ice cream --at an Indian restaurant on Tuesday. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Oh well, we all make mistakes!

YESTERDAY'S FOOD
breakfast
cubed steak coated w/ pork rinds fried in olive oil
HWC/cream cheese w/ sweetener

late snack
pepperoni w/ cream cheese
HWC/cream cheese w/ sweetener

dinner
chili rellenos (homemade)
salad w/ parmesan

after dinner
Diet Dr. Pepper
venti decaf SF caramel HWC latte
HWC/cream cheese w/ sweetener (at 2 AM)

168.5

Down 1.5 lbs!!!

And, yes, that was basically in one day. My weight has been 170 for several days, 169.5 a couple of times. Then today--168.5.

What is UP with my weight? This is nuts.

The differences in my food yesterday:
* I didn't have drinks w/ HWC until 3:00 because we were out of HWC. OTOH, we ran out on the 21st, so I'm not sure that I had much the day before yesterday, either.
* I ate a lot of Spinach Artichoke dip. While it has only 1 carb/serving, it wasn't homemade and contains eggs. Maybe one of those things is causing me to retain water?
* I HAD been eating HWC/cream cheese dessert in the mornings, but didn't have any yesterday.

I really don't know what's going on. The lower amount of diary fat and the higher amount of sodium (from the dip) are the only real changes that I can see. I'll see tomorrow if it was just water retention. I'm working to drink lots of water today.

I also ate really close to 2 of my thyroid med doses yesterday. I don't know that doing that for one day would cause a weight issue; although, I DID read somebody on lcf say that her weight goes up a couple of pounds if she forgets to take her thyroid medicine one day, so who knows?

I know...it's only one day, but this is what has been happening over and over and it's not usual for me. My weight is usually very steady unless it's going down from lc. My entire life it hasn't gone up and down.

I ate a lot of fat yesterday and drank 13 cups of water, 2 cups of tea, and an Italian soda. I feel like I have less water retention today, but only .5 pound less? How do we look SO puffy with that little extra water spread over our entire bodies?

Thanks, Stews!

Then it went back to 168 and is at 167. This is not working this time, and I really don't think that it's my food--unless I really, DO need to eat a TON of calories for my body to lose weight. I have lost on days when I eat a ton, but not on days when I don't. I'm calling my thyroid doctor. I had emailed him and he said that I have hyper and hypo-thyroid symptoms and to make an appt. I'm wondering if my weight keeps going up and down because of that.

Thanks, stews! I'm frustrated. I looked at some chocolate-covered raisins today and told DH that if I don't start losing some weight soon I'm going to have a really hard time sticking to my WOE. I know that I'm on this WOE for my health, too, but, honestly, weight is the primary focus for me and I forget about it being for my health, too.

I left a message for the dr. I will find out tomorrow if he wants me to come see him or if a phone consult sounds good to him.

I can now add "being warm" to my list of symptoms. That's a hyperthyroid symptom, and I've been hypothyroid for years. I'm used to being cold. This is weird, but I think (not positive) that it's typical for those with Hashimoto's to flip flop, which the dr thinks that I have.

Looking at my weights over the past 18 days

15 -- 170 (then 170 & 169 for days)
21 -- 168.5
22 -- 167.5
23 -- 169
24 -- 168.5
25 -- 167.5
26 -- 167.5 (then went to 168)
30 -- 167
31 -- 168
1 -- 167.5 (weighed late in AM)
2 -- 167 (weighed late in AM)

So, in 18 days, I DO seem to be down at least 2 lbs. That's better than NOT being down 2 lbs, but it's still a ridiculously low amount to lose.

Plus, my ND told me that usually the weight gained from prednisone is mostly water weight and will go away in a couple of weeks. I quit it 3 weeks ago, and I had gained 8 lbs.

I DO have a lot of water retention, and it's just not going away. I drank a TON of iced tea yesterday, but I'm still puffy today.

How to know when to put back a little carbohydrate:

Ask yourself:

Are the keto-stix still turning purple?
Am I still un-hungry?
Have I stopped eating at night?
Do I have more energy?
Am I still losing weight or inches nicely? [Remember, your tape measure is a lot better friend than your scale, not only more accurate, but better able to report on the actual fat (not just temporary water) losses this diet achieves.]

I had sugar on Father's Day and my weight went to 171, but I'm sure that it was from sugar-induced water retention. I've been on strict lc foods since Monday, so that's 4 days. If I hadn't eaten the sugar on Sunday to make my weight go up, I'd think that I've lost 3 lbs, but as it is, I don't feel that I've really lost anything. We'll see if it keeps going down or not.

I was kind of when I saw that weight, but now that I see that I'm actually down .5 lbs from yesterday I'm much more .

I'm not going to have a scale until Sunday so I'm a little freaked out. Trying to calm down about it. I like to weigh everyday because I feel that it helps me to see that I'm goofing up or not. Maybe I'll take some ketosticks. At least then I can something.
