Great job avoiding those things! Yes, it really helps me a lot when I'm losing!

Calories don't matter a whole lot, according to Dr. Atkins

I read something very interesting. I am not sure that I have read any of the Atkins' books entirely. I've read most of some of them, but I'm pretty sure that I've skipped chapters.

This morning, I was looking at the original book (1972) and came across the story of how Dr. Atkins came to try low-carb. What I find very interesting is that he ate more than he needed, and still lost weight. He shares examples of people who consumed very few carbs yet consumed 2500 or more calories per day and lost weight while doing it. He says that while a person would lose faster while consuming 1500 calories w/ 10 carbs than while consuming 2000 calories w/ 10 carbs, the point is to not feel so deprived that you don't stick w/ it, and that the rate of loss isn't significant. BUT the number of carbs is important.

A lot of people here on LCF talk about calories a lot. I tried counting calories w/ low carb and wasn't happy w/ it. I think that a lot of it was that I was hungry. I've frequently thought, but don't believe that I've said, that if (some) people would lower their carb intake, then maybe they could eat enough calories to be satisfied and still lose weight. It seems that I got that idea from Dr. Atkins.

That's a thought that I'm going to test on myself.
I found that when I got down to the last 10 or so pounds calories did matter. That's when I had to watch them. Up until then no problem at all!

Good to know!

And I reworded my post to make it mean more what I had intended to say.

Now that I think about it, when I wanted to lose 10 more pounds that time I was probably already the right size for me anyway. I wanted to be less than I should have been. I have a "fat" view of myself.

I'm sorry that you view yourself that way.

I have a skinny view of myself. It's nice, but at the same time, that's why I got so big!

I don't know why we do that! I did see a film of myself on the computer last night where the director taped the play rehearsal. I realized I have gained all my weight right around the middle. I used to gain it in my hips and butt some. That's from getting older I think. But you know, even though I didn't like the way I looked it gave me a "real" perspective with how to do it and motivation too.

So far today:

calories..........684
fat grams.........59.2
carb grams........4.9
protein grams...32.2

Not that I care about anything other than carbs; I just felt like posting it.

LUNCH
Singapore chicken thigh--deep fried
eggplant, deep-fried, topped w/ mozzarella and Parmesan, then baked
24 oz green tea

Eggplant REALLY soaks up the oil! I think that each slice contains a tsp of oil!

So...

I'm starting at the beginning of Atkins '72, again, and hoping (maybe I should add praying to that, because w/o prayer...) to be able to get back to losing 3 lbs +/- weekly, again. That was nice. I don't need those veggies right now as much as I need to lose this weight. I can eat them later!

NEW CHALLENGE

Just thought of a new challenge for myself:

Stay on plan until Valentine's Day. I mean...count carbs, see what my CCL is...

Eh, that was a short-lived desire. I already don't want to do it.

I just had a freak-out moment. I looked at my stats and saw "213.5" next to my "name" and wondered how I'd ever let myself get to that point--that's almost 100 pounds more than I weighed when I met DH. 100 pounds is a lot!

Well, I'm glad that I'm doing something about it.

WIT challenge. We use a quality in our animal to figure out how to achieve our goal and we report which quality we used that day

To accompish my food goal, I will use these:

Lion visionary, strong-willed

Otter enthusiastic

visionary--I can see how my life would be if I were thin and in shape. I will try to remember this when I want to eat foods that will NOT help me to reach this goal, and when I want to skip my exercise.

strong-willed--Helps me to ignore that popcorn!

enthusiastic--reminds me that I can do it!!

You are the first person I have ever really liked their journal enough to actually read it

You are doing GREAT! Hopefully I will also have great news to report soon! I started on Atkins TODAY! I am having to remind myself minute by minute to not absent-mindedly put the wrong food in my mouth! I was 170.5 this morning I had eggs with melted queso and 2 weiners chopped up in it this morning. I may try something different this time with the timing of meals. Since I am NOT hungry ever in the morning, I may drink my one cup of coffee when I get to work and have a good-sized breakfast about 10 or so then wait until mid-afternoon to have my second meal, then dinner about normal time for us, 6 to 8 depending on evening activities. I have to watch my hunger totally going away too. I remember having a hard time making myself eat when I was in induction.

Should I start my own journal? Or do you want to sort of encourage each other here? I don't mind either way.

I'm glad that you enjoy reading my journal; it makes it not so lonely here. Feel free to post here as often as you like. I don't mind sharing the space; it could be good encouragement for each other! If you decide that you want your own journal, though, I'll understand.

I know how it is when first starting...thinking about every bite and reminding myself that some things aren't OK. I've told myself that I'm still on induction even if I accidentally eat the wrong thing, because it happens, and I don't need to start all over the next day! Works for me, in case you need an idea.

As for eating breakfast late, if that's what works best for you, then do it! (I'll take that back if I remember a reason why that's not healthy. )

Go, Lucy, go!!

I am drinking only one cup of coffee a day. I found I can do that even with heavy cream but not more than one cup or it tends to stall me. I think I will wait on the seeds and nuts until the first 2 weeks is up. I KNOW I never get the salads I need because I honestly don't care for them. I TRY to make up for it with steamed green veggies (LOVE broccoli) but I am not great about doing that routinely either. At least I remember what I can have at all the restaurants and what tends to cause stalls for me since I did it for so long. I was SO set for Curves today and now of course I will go straight to the hospital if Angel is still there when I get off. Depending on how long I have I may go to Curves after that but if not, I will go tomorrow to make up for it. Thanks for letting me write here. Writing to MYSELF in a journal is okay but I wouldn't do it like I would here.

Oh and I am going to get measured when I do go to Curves. I am embarrassed to do it since I KNOW I have gained inches since joining. BUT I haven't measured in the past and I want to do it consistently this time. They do it once a month there but you have to ask them. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE DREAD!!!

That makes sense!!

If you would be eating iceberg lettuce for your salad then other veggies have more vitamins, anyway, so don't worry about eating something in place of salad, IMO. --Dr. Wendy

That's great that you know what causes you to stall. Awesome! I haven't yet figured that out. Too many carbs is all that I know.

You just reminded me that I'm "supposed" to start exercising today. I don't usually mind, but this time...I don't want to do it!
