Congratulation on second place! Now I understand why you work out like crazy, it all makes sense now.
![]() And...your daughter competes too, how does someone get into something like that? Very interesting. So...would I be out of line to take advantage of your knowledge and ask you about exercises/weights?? |

I got into strongman after seeing a pro-am in Kansas City a few years back. It looked like alot of fun and after signing up and doing the first one in 2005 I've been hooked. Most everyone I've met has been nothing but friendly and supportive, it's an amazing group of people.
Both my daughters started competing this year, my eldest started last year. When our local state chairman started adding in womens divisions. I don't know how much knowledge I really have, I'm still learning myself. But feel free to ask, I'm always glad to help when I can Jennifer. Last edited by Bobby; 09-21-2008 at 02:19 AM.. |

I think they are ok with it. I don't think she talks about it allot, but she doesn't hide it either.
I drank two beers this weekend, one on Saturday night after I got home from the contest and the last one last night. I also cheated last night, I had a handful of chocolate covered raisins. I'm back on plan so it's all good. Another up side to yesterday, I took the shepherd out for a walk last night too. We went about a mile is all, but it was good. She needs more time on the leash, she kept pulling like crazy. I slept 11 hours last night/today. I went to bed about 2:45am and woke up at 2pm this afternoon I had to pick up Shannon from school and go to work so no time to lift. I should be able to lift in the morning when I get home. I'm itching to try my new axle ![]() |

11 hours.....must be nice!!! If you do not mind me asking, are you married or is it just you and your daughter? Just being nosy, I know how hard overnights can be on the wives.
I do not even know what an axle is...I am assuming some new kind of weight lifting equipment? Do you know whatever happened to Raine?? |

It is nice, especially since I'd been having such a tough time sleeping with muscle spasms over the past couple of weeks.
![]() Yep, I'm married, we've been married 23 years. An axle is a barbell with roughly a two inch bar to hold onto. I've had a homemade one made of heavy duty pipe with collar stops welded on. But I was afraid to put much weight on it for things like deadlifts. This thing should be able to handle any weight I want to put on it. I don't know what happened to Raine either. I hope she's doing ok. |

Well, I just finished drinking 2 1/2 liters of water for the day. I doubt I drink much more unless I lift weights when I get home. I'm having some more coffee to keep me going.
Today I had.... 3 scrambled eggs and four slices of bacon for breakfast (2:15pm) hamburger patty and 4 egg/egg salad (5:45pm) 3 hamburger patties with mustard and green beans (9ish) 2 hamburger patties with mustard, vitamins and fish oil (1:30ish am) ETA: That works out to 3,000 calories, 221.8 grams of fat, 13.9 grams of carbs and 223.7 grams of protein. I'm at a 1550 calorie deficiet, so not too bad. If I lift weights I'll have a protein shake after then go to bed. I'll post it if I lift. Last edited by Bobby; 09-23-2008 at 03:04 AM.. |

Thanks D, I'll try. I'm feeling sleepy for some reason. Because I've been up 15 1/2 hours so far and have another 1 1/2 before I get home? Naaaah

Hey Jennifer, yes, when I have time.
Todays lifting... Dead Lifts (with new axle) 150x12 150x10 240x6 290x3 Used smaller belt, it's new and a pain to put on... 300x1 300x4 Lat Pull downs 160x6 160x6 Bent over Axle Rows 170x6 170x6 These are tough grip wise. Alt DB Curls 50x6 50x6 Axle Curls 110x6 110x6 Not going to wrist curls, axle work is plenty for now. Cable Crunches 2 sets of 15 Hypers BWx10 BWx10 First time using the GHR. I'll start adding these in once a week. Not a great workout, but it's something to get the ball rolling again. Using the axle really fries the forearms and makes gripping tough, I'll keep working these in, maybe not with my regular dead lift but use it more for the bent over rows. I probably aught to use the regular barbell for dead lifts so I can concentrate on lifting more weight. |

![]() I got to thinking on the way to work that maybe that was a pretty good workout today. I hadn't eaten breakfast before doing it and I usually do allot worse when I lift before eating so that's cool. Also only having 14 carbs yesterday probably held me back a bit too. Tho I didn't feel like I ran into a wall or anything like that. |

Well I had to stay a couple of hours after work to explain how I strained my left foot. I have some celebrex that is taking care of the pain.
Today I got up early to go get some leftover drainage tile that I had stored at the hobby farm. A young couple that my wife knows needed it to put along side a house that they want to buy. The owner doesn't have time to do the repairs that the mortgage agency said need to be done so they are doing little things to get it right before an inspector comes in tomorrow. I was told that they would be by the house around 3:30 so I went and got the tile so they could put it in. Well they show up at 6:30 and don't have a shovel or spade, hadn't gotten started on it before now and the inspector is coming tomorrow. Anyway, I helped dig (digging most of it myself) the trench and lay the tile. I'm not going to help any more until they get the dang [papers signed, and even then they better have more initiative or they are on their own. It wasn't hard work, but the skeeters were eating the crap out of me. Rant over. So I haven't lifted yet, I'll post if I do. |

Sounds like the digging was a good workout for your erectors, though. (I'm trying to find a positive here.)
Man! A stained foot!? What happened? Is your company as obsessed with safety as mine is? Will you get much unwanted attention with this, now? You okay? |

Not what I wanted or need to do, but it was something.Yes, my company is very concerned about our safety. I shouldn't get any unwanted attention. This is what I did today... Axle Overhead Press 60x12 bench press 95x10 10"Log 150x6 Bench Press 185x3 205x6 225x4 235x3 245x3 255x2 Incline DB Bench Press 60'sx10 60'sx10 10" Log 150x3 170x3 190x2 DB Side Lateral Raise 35'sx10 35'sx10 BB Shrug 265x4 dble over hand grip 265x6 alt grip Cable Tricep Pressdowns 115x6 90x10 Had to go pick up Shannon from school. I'll do abs later. Pretty happy getting the 255 bench press for 2 reps. I still haven't had breakfast yet, so I better get something in. |

As a friend suggested, I went outside and loaded my little 175 stone. Then did 5 reps from the lap to standing, no tacky. I'm going to try and do that a couple of times a week and work my way up to loading/repping 310 eventually. I'll used tacky on the others. I'm not sure if I should do it after the leg/squat day or the deadlift/back day. Today was the pressing/arms day and wasn't too bad, I just didn't want to fool with the tacky.

That sounds like a good idea D. Thanks!
I'm thnking of trying to do them on days I'm not training, but like you said it'd probably be too much back work, and leg work for that matter. We'll see how I do, I just know I need to play with the stones and log more. |

Reps with the 175 stone, a couple of singles and a 5 rep stand ups. Then did some reps with the 220ish stone, a couple of singles, and then 3 reps stand ups. Loaded the other 220ish stone and now have 3 of the four stones loaded on the platform. I still have the 310 stone on the ground, it'll be there a while I think. No tacky on the little stone. Then used a little tacky on the palms for the other stones. I forgot to put my belt on before putting the tacky on so no belt or support for all the reps.
Time to get ready for work. |

Breakfast was eggs, bacon and about 2 tablespoon of diced tomato
3 hamburger patties about 3 ounces of almonds, not measured the wings, drumsticks and half a breast from a rotisorie chicken I picked up on my way to work. 2 1/2 liters of water ETA: Fitday says that works out to 2,427 Calories, 173 grams of fat, 24 carbs and 193 grams of protein. Nine of those carbs should be fiber from the almonds. Pretty light on the eating, but not much of an appetite. I'll do better tomorrow. Last edited by Bobby; 09-27-2008 at 12:12 AM.. |
