Food good. Back killing me. Took Aleve and put on a hot patch before I could go exercise. Walked 3 1/2 miles.

Back laid me up for a few days. Hopefully I will be able to hit the gym tomorrow.
Ended up going low carb for the weekend again. Seems to work OK - 5 days of ME diet and then 2 days of low carb. Lost 2 lbs last week. Week 1 - 6 lbs Week 2 - 2 lbs Week 3 - 2 lbs ---------------- Total 10 lbs |

Was able to walk 3+ miles Tuesday and Wednesday. Had to take Aleve and put on an Icy Hot patch because back is still hurting. Started doing a few of the warmup exercises from Calinetics to see if that might help with my back.
Yesterday food was out of control. Have no idea what caused it. Back on track today with no cravings at all. Initial report from doctor said vitamin D is low again. Supplements don't seem to be enough to keep the level up. Had a shot last year to get level up to normal. Also mixed results with cholesterol. Waiting for them to email me copy of complete labs.

Walked 3 miles Thursday and 4 miles Friday. Also did 10 minutes on stationary bike both days. No back pain at all. Legs and hips still hurt, but not too bad.
Food good on Thursday and so far today. Trying to eat flax muffin in morning instead of bacon and eggs. Hoping the flax helps with triglycerides and large ldl. |

Ended up eating a little more than planned yesterday. Nothing bad, just a little too much.
Nurse from doctor's office gave me a summary of my lab results. Still waiting for them to send me a copy. Testosterone and T3 are both low. No joke. I knew that when I went there 2+ years ago. Went on testosterone for almost a year with no improvement. Stopped because of a high PSA reading. Now doctor is talking about medication for thyroid. So I did a little research and found some new information that says triclosan, found in some soaps and deodorants, may cause hormonal problems - specifically with thyroid. I have been using Old Spice deodorant, which contains triclosan, for over 30 years. So I am going to try a natural deodorant made from baking soda and cornstarch. I started checking out the ingredients in the soap I use, Irish Spring. Oh goody. Irish Spring contains triclocarban which may cause hormonal problems and an enlarged prostate. I have been using Irish Spring for about 30 years and have had an enlarged prostate for over 10 years. Going to replace the Irish Spring too. And while I'm at it, going to replace Head and Shoulders shampoo, with one made from baking soda and water, and replace toothpaste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Used push mower last night for really good sweat.
Walked 4 miles and did stationary bike for 20 minutes. Have been using a homemade deodorant instead of my old spice and I really sweat now. Probably more healthy. It is baking soda based so I haven't noticed that I smell really bad. Food good. |

Walked 5 miles and did 20 minutes on stationary bike. I'm full of pain killers which is probably why I was able to walk so far without much pain. Anyway, it felt good to be able to walk that far. Did 4 miles straight, then 20 minutes on bike, and then last mile. No breaks except to get a few sips of water.
Mainly protein shakes today. To much pain to chew on anything. A few bites of chicken. |

3 lb loss for the week. What is strange is that I gained a pound between Saturday morning and Monday morning and I didn't eat very much and ate on plan. I'm hoping that I am retaining fluid because of the pain pills I started taking Friday night. I think I can do without them now, so maybe I will see a quick drop of a couple of pounds.
Walked 5 miles and did 30 minutes on stationary bike. This was by far the most intense aerobic exercise I have done in years. Week 1 - 6 lbs Week 2 - 2 lbs Week 3 - 2 lbs Week 4 - 2 lbs Week 5 - 3 lbs ---------------- Total 15 lbs |

Stopped the pain pills yesterday and today it hurt to walk again. Was still able to walk 3 miles and do some weights.
I'm thinking the pound I gained back might be because I have been drinking something else in place of iced tea for the last few days. Ice tea is a diuretic, so most likely I just retained a little water. |

Body really aching since I stopped taking the pain pills. Also have had stomach problems for 2 days. Maybe its the infection working its way out, maybe the niacin I just started 2 days ago, or maybe something else.
Walked 3 1/2 miles today. Weight isn't coming off. Making sure I drink tea today. |

The pain seems to be back for good. Started walking pretty slowly and worked up to a moderate pace. Able to walk 4 miles. Last night cut about 1/2 acre with the push mower. Stopped when I ran over a yellow jacket nest.
Scale at gym was finally back down to what it read last Saturday. I think the iced tea helps. Had a pint of haagan dazs as my cheat for the week. This seems to help keep the cravings away. Plus the metabolic diet calls for a cheat meal and I just have a cheat ice cream. |

Usually I go very low carb on the weekend to make sure I get my 2 lb loss for the week. I tried something different this weekend. Flax.
For breakfast, I had 2 flax meal pancakes with da vinci maple syrup. I made it with no oil but put butter on the pancakes. Mixed in some walnuts and blueberries. Delicious. For lunch, I used flax meal and added some onion powder and made it a little dryer than the pancake batter. Cooked it like pancakes but flattened it out. Got 2 good sized pieces of flax bread from it. Used them for an egg sandwich. Then for dinner, I made 2 flax meal muffins. Used cinnamon and cherries to zing it up. And I was down 2 lbs this morning. Only problem is I feel like I am on a stimulant. Couldn't sleep (maybe 3 hours sleep) and felt flushed. Pulse is fine so not too worried. Going to try same thing today and see what happens. |

4 lb loss for the week thanks to flax meal! Two days of flax meal (all 3 meals on Sat and 2 meals on Sun) resulted in 4 lb loss in 2 days. I guess it is all the fat in flax that has me wired. Did a little research, and it looks like I need to keep flax meal at or under 6 tbls a day. So max 2 meals with flax meal from now on. Some days I will have just 1 and somedays 2.
Flax may help with PSA and preventing prostate cancer. Cyanide danger seems to be overblown. Walked 5 miles and did 20 minutes on stationary bike. Had some pain but not too bad. Week 1 - 6 lbs Week 2 - 2 lbs Week 3 - 2 lbs Week 4 - 2 lbs Week 5 - 3 lbs Week 6 - 4 lbs ---------------- Total 19 lbs |

Felt blah today. Might have been from ice cream yesterday. I had been eating the high fat ice cream with no problem, but this was the generic kind. Something to watch.
Food was OK yesterday and today. Didn't make it to gym today. Just felt like I needed a break. Ordered some supplements to hopefully help with cholesterol and blood pressure. I'm giving myself 2 months to get both in normal range or will take whatever doc recommends. BP is just a little high, so I think I can get that down. Taking slo-niacin for cholesterol and going to add garlic capsules and l-arginine. I'm pretty sure I can get cholesterol ratio down, but I had too much small density ldl and I'm not sure how to attack that other than to increase hdl and lower triglycerides. |

Forced myself to go to gym. Walked 4 miles. Pain is much less than it was a week ago. Food is OK.
Kind of dragging. Need to be real careful because I am at the point in time the cravings usually kick in - about 6 weeks in. This is the 7th week. If I don't snap out of it in a couple of days, I will up my calories by adding more fruit and vegetables. I've been around 1500-1700 calories most days so adding just 200-300 calories a day might help. |

Still dragging today. Walked 3 miles and did 20 minutes on bike.
Was really hungry yesterday and weight was up a lb or 2 this morning. Food today is OK so far. Body is starting to fight me. Been here too many times before. Going to start tracking blood glucose tomorrow and see if I can find a clue. |

Energy is a little better today, but still low. Did a lot of work around the house.
Doing a very low carb weekend. Need to make sure I lose at least a pound or 2 this week. Note: Order Himalayan sea salt. |

Walked 4 miles and did 20 minutes on stationary bike. Back is acting up - probably from pushing the mower for 2 hours.
Today is flax day. Two meals built around flax and a low carb meal. Week 1 - 6 lbs Week 2 - 2 lbs Week 3 - 2 lbs Week 4 - 2 lbs Week 5 - 3 lbs Week 6 - 4 lbs Week 7 - 3 lbs ---------------- Total 22 lbs |

Still got the blahs. Didn't make it to gym today. Stopped taking the slo-niacin. Something is raising my heart rate and keeping me awake at night. The only thing I can think might be related is the slo-niacin.
Food OK. Today was my ice cream treat for the week. I have found that the premium, high fat ice cream doesn't cause cravings, while the lower sugar or lower carb ice creams do. My body seems to like the one day of extra calories and gets right back to burning fat. |

More blahs. This is so like what always happens about 6 weeks in. This time it took until week 8. Ate a ton today, nothing bad, just way too much of everything. The problem seems to be that I need more calories and more carbs, so I had a semi-controlled break today.
The ME diet recommends a free meal once a week and I think I will do that from now on One day of higher carbs and calories may be enough to keep me from getting to this point. No exercise today. The real test is the next 2 or 3 days. |

Yesterday food was better. Think I am back on track today. Made it to the gym and walked 3 miles.
One symptom I have is a metallic taste in my mouth. This goes along with the blahs, fatigue, and cravings I get. Maybe the metallic taste is a clue. Will have to check that out. Weight up a couple of pounds but no big deal if I can get back on track. Problem is that at this point, I can usually only get back on track for a few days and then the symptoms are overwhelming again. |
