Lene' Today
Might as well start a journal here at this site, since I spend much more time her than I do anywhere else online.
![]() I'm basically doing a high-fat lowcarb diet, in the Barry Groves or PPLP form. I've recently decided to stop weighing myself for a while, since my weight has become stuck and it was screwing with me mentally. I'll focus more on simply eating well, and on keeping my blood glucose levels in line. I want to keep the damn diabetes from progressing as best I can. It's grey and damp here today, a bit on the cool side, which is fine by me. I'm taking it easy this afternoon, as my glasses broke a couple hours ago and I'm having to cope with one lens and one "covered with gauze" eye. (Tried just wearing the glasses with the one lens missing, but it was making me seriously dizzy, so I covered that eye with gauze.) When Jeff gets home, he can help me fix the bloody things, but for now, I'm about useless. Leftover ham for supper tonight, and some sort of veggies with butter. Breakfast was an omelet with two jumbo eggs, a tablespoon or two of butter, and lots of cheddar cheese, plus a mug of coffee with coconut oil and heavy cream. No lunch today, not hungry. Will probably have another coffee with cream later this afternoon. My FBG was 96 this morning, so not bad. I've been trying to get it to stay below 100. This is a boring, boring entry, but that's ok. I just wanted to get a start here, more than anything else. I'm going to be doing a 20 minute ride on the recumbent ex. bike this afternoon, as well as 10 minutes of stretching and abs work. This amounts to diddly, I know, but the main thing is that I'm doing *something*. I've been a terrible slug for a while now. I am almost always so bloody tired, and I allow it to keep me from doing even moderate amounts of exercise, which is sheer stupidity. I'm going to make an effort to be a bit smarter from now on! |

Hi,
I have a boring journal as well - but it is a place to ramble away. I do not weigh all the time - I started induction and weighed. Will weigh again on June 2nd. Have you tried Callanetics? 20 minutes of stretching and ab work is fine. Baby steps is a-ok. Talk to you again. Dior |

Hi Dior! I popped by your journal thread to reply... Thanks for coming by to welcome me to journaling!
FBG was fine this morning at 96. I slept late, for no reason I can discern. Just felt like it, I suppose. I plan to try a new recipe this afternoon, for the coconut flour cheddar garlic biscuits I found posted on this site. I have tons of coconut flour on hand, and need to find a new use for it. I also need to make a quick run into town today to pick up a few things at the grocery store, and to get a pile of books the library is holding for me. I usually don't go anywhere unless I have at least two or three errands to run, because I hate to use the gasoline just to run around aimlessly. Can't for the life of me think of anything else to post for now, so I'll shut up and go grab a late shower before going out. |

Hmmm... Am going to try tracking my calories again, to see if I can be sure to get my BMR on a daily basis, but not go much over that amount. I'll continue to shoot for high fat, and my protein will be the .36 per pound of body weight to get the basic needs met. See how this goes. The biggest trouble will simply be having to spend the time and go to the hassle of figuring out calories and other nutritional info for every darn thing I eat. I *hate* that! Fitday works great for some things, but when I use a new recipe or some such thing, I end up having to spend ages figuring out calories and such for the whole recipe, and then figuring out how many portions I ate of that food.
On an up note, the cheddar garlic biscuits with coconut flour turned out fantastic. I adapted the recipe very slightly, used 3 jumbo eggs, increased the salt and garlic powder slightly, and added 1 scoop whey protein powder to the batter before I added the shredded cheese. I glopped it out into the 6 wells of my new nonstick muffin top pan, and the dough spread in the oven to fill the wells perfectly. I ended up with 6 wonderful-looking and very tasty cheese bread rounds, perfect to use for hamburger buns. A big hit with the guys, too. Yay! Tonight is leftover ham, and some buttered veggies, and maybe some sugarfree ice cream later. I'll start using Fitday again tomorrow... Dr. Eades posted in his blog today that once people start to stall on LC, they may need to cut their calories a bit to start losing again. LC allows the fat cells to be open to losing fat, but if you are eating enough to support your body's needs, the fat cells have no reason to burn the fat for fuel. So, you won't gain weight on a true LC diet like this, but you won't be burning the fat on your body at that point, either. You need to eat enough calories not to screw up your metabolism, but not so many that your body sees no need to burn your fat as fuel -- yikes! In other words, I may be at a point where I have been eating outside my magic loss zone. I'm hoping that starting to eat to my BMR will allow me not to screw up my metabolism while also being low enough in calories to persuade my fat cells they need to let go of the fat so it can be used as fuel. I'm so weary of this crap... It's like a never-ending mathematical game, and I was always sucky at math. I wish someone could just give me a magic list of what to eat and what not to eat, and as long as I followed those rules, the fat would melt away. But that just ain't working for me any longer -- I can *do* LC happily, but darn it all, it seems now I have to also fiddlefart around constantly tracking calories and so on, trying to not only eat the right foods but in the exact right proportions. Aaaargh! My brain hurts... |

Well, I signed into fitday this morning, after a long while, and was sad to have to add 4 pounds to my weight from the last time I was there. But, I knew I'd had this small gain, and have stalled, which is why I'm giving the BMR a serious try.
Had one of the coconut flour cheddar rolls I made yesterday for breakfast, with 4 thick slices of bologna I get from a local farmer, fried. Also had a mug of hot tea sweetened with a spoon of erythritol, a few drops saccharine, and a few drops Fiberfit. (I find the combined sweeteners works best for my tea.) And since I know that I'll be having a light, late lunch this afternoon of a muf of coffee with an ounce of cream, and half an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter, I added those, as well. So far, my totals come to 1009 calories, 26 carbs (not deducting fiber), and 38 protein, of which only 20 grams are from actual meat. So, I have to get in about 595 more calories, and around 55 more grams of animal protein today... Not sure what supper will be except for knowing I want to make some lemon-ginger coleslaw. It's grey and rainy here today. So much so that at almost 9 AM, I am having trouble seeing the keyboard well enough to type this. (Our computer room has no light -- old house, no ceiling fixture, and the one wall socket is used to plug in the computers.) |

I've entered into fitday everything I've eaten today and what I plan to eat later, and I'll be about 200 calories *over* my BMR target today. LOL Not gonna worry about it, but will try to get closer to the target tomorrow. I think being a little high is better than being too low...
calories today -- 1793 carbs today -- 26 grams (22 net) for 5% for the day fat today -- 148 grams for 74% for the day protein today -- 92 grams (73 grams from meat and eggs and whey pp) for 21% for the day |

Calories for today will be 1804. Fat grams will be 138 (69% of calories.) Carbs will be 28 grams, not deducting fiber (5% of calories.) And protein will be 115 grams, (so 26% of calories.)
I entered what I've already had today into fitday, and then entered what I know I'll be having for supper. Then I added a couple slices of thick bologna and a cup of coffee to this afternoon, to get the protein up and to allow me my second cup of coffee. This is what I came up with. I prefer to do this rather than waiting til the day is over, because this way I know what I have left to eat and when I need to stop and just go for water. As it is, I'm still above my BMR by about 200 calories, although I hope I'm enough below my total caloric needs for the day that my body will let go of at least a little fat off my ass. Food for the day is a protein shake made from water with an ounce of cream in it, and two scoops whey protein powder. Then a mug of coffee with another ounce of cream. Later, the two slices bologna and another coffee with cream. And supper is where the most calories and "bang" comes from, as I promised Danny I'll make lowcarb pizza. I plan to use the recipe I tried the other day for the coconut flour and cheddar "muffins", adding Italian seasoning to the batter I'll spread it on a baking sheet lined with nonstick foil, and after it is baked, will top it with cheese and pepperoni. I know how much cheese and pepperoni I'll use, so I took the stats for the total pizza and figured out my portion -- I plan to have the equivalent of 3 of the muffins topped with 3 ounces cheese and an ounce of pepperoni. I'm not bothering to count the tomato sauce, as I use little enough of it and will be eating so little, it doesn't come to enough calories or carbs to worry about. This is a strange day in that most of the calories are coming in the evening, so it's all lopsided, but when supper is a meal like pizza, that's the breaks. Some other days will be balanced the other way, with lots of calories and fat in the earlier hours due to me having a lot of bacon, then eating lightly in the evening. In fact, Jeff got a great deal on bacon the other day, so we have several pkgs in both the freezer and fridge, so I plan to have bacon this weekend. It would probably be best if the calories and fat and protein were spread more evenly through the day all the time, but it just doesn't work out that way for me a lot of the time. I do make sure to keep the carbs per meal below 18 to 20, and usually much lower than that. Today is a low veggie day, I see. He also got a great deal on ground chicken recently, 99 cents a pound for really good stuff with no added liquid "solution" and last night got some good old-fashioned ring bologna that normally sells for $4 a pound for only 99 cents a pound, so he bought all they had left, which was 6 pounds. I love when he stops at the store on his way home from work, because he often comes across this great deals on meat, and is able to stock up on it. Dior, bless your hubby for cooking up a storm! Don't you love when you have plenty of "good" stuff on hand? Makes it easier to stay on plan, for sure. |

Just a quickie. I think eating to my BMR is working to break the stall I've been in -- I'm down 2 pounds in the four days I've been trying to eat at least my BMR, and no more than 300-400 calories over that amount. Keeping carbs low, of course. I hope it continues to work well for me.
I smashed my wedding ring finger on Friday night. I suspect I broke or cracked the bone in the first joint -- that joint has been a rather dark blue, and quite swollen, and the second joint is a lighter shade of blue. It still hurts. I didn't go to the doctor, since all the doc would do is x-ray it and tell me whether or not it is broken, then splint it and tell me to take Tylenol for pain. So, I had Jeff splint it, and I'm doing without the Tylenol. It is still painful and difficult to bend if I remove the splint, but the swelling has gone down quite a bit, so I think time will be all I need. Very annoying, though, and I feel a regular klutz, but that's common for me -- I've always been a klutz! Supper tonight will be BBQ burgers, and buttered green beans. I'm actually hungry, too which is unusual for me. I have no idea what I'll be cooking tomorrow... |

Weight is 196.5 this morning, as we start our Firecracker Challenge in the EFGT/Barry Groves group. The challenge ends on July 4, and I hope to lose at least 5 pounds between now and then, so hoping that on July 4 I'll be down to 191.5 or less.

Heh, slow darn going here. Weight is 196 this morning. Which is, I admit, better than the 199 I was seeing a while back.
My finger is a lot better -- no longer blue all over, and I can bend it and use it normally. But I still have some pain when I use it, just at the first joint, and there's also a strange numbness. We now suspect I didn't crack the bone, but busted a blood vessel (which would account for the terrible bruising) and may have slightly damaged a nerve. That would seem to account for the numbness, etc. Who knows? Just glad it works pretty much like normal, and I can live with a little pain and numbness. I've lived with *much* worse pain for years at a time. Dior, off to say hi in your journal... |

Oh drat. I'm sucky at keeping a journal. And it coulda been exciting, too, what with floods and all. But still, will pop in for a quickie today.
I've stopped screwing with BMR, despite thinking it sounds logical. Too much food, and too much work. LOL I now eat two meals a day -- breakfast and supper, and have coffee or water or iced tea between. Not hungry at all. I take my metformin with those two meals, which is why I settled on those two as opposed to lunch and supper. My weight is now down to 192.5 and I feel slimmer. I was so happy when I got into the pair of size 18 jeans I'm wearing now, after wearing a size 20 or 22 for so long. Once I got into the size 18, I ordered the same exact jeans online in a size 16. Tried them on the other day and found that now *they* fit me, although they are quite snug. Still, I can zip them up and even sit down in them so I'm happy. I kinda expect to be in those jeans by my birthday (Oct. 15) and will set these size 18 jeans aside then for sloppy around-the-house jeans. Since I was able to zip the size 16 pair, I went ahead and ordered the same jeans in a size 14, which I hope like heck to be able to get on and zip by the end of the year. They may still be tight, but I'd like to be able to at least zip them and sit down in them. Once I eventually am able to wear those and find them getting slightly loose, I'll have to actually go to a store and do jeans shopping, because the online store (Lane Bryant) doesn't carry them in sizes lower than a 14! Eeek! I guess by that point I'll be in "normal person" sized jeans?? I'll be thrilled to have gotten to that point, but also not thrilled -- I really *hate* shopping for jeans! They are so often cut so oddly, and I truly hate the really low rise jeans. They look like **** on even skinny little thangs, and aren't comfortable at all. I don't want the waist to come up to my armpits like granny jeans, but damn... Anyway, will cross that bridge if and when (please god, when) I come to it. For now, just happy to see my butt shrinking. Went to the local meat market and got some very nice steaks, so this weekend will be steak cooked out on the grill, and a small baked sweet potato with lots of butter and some salt and pepper. Yum! One of my favorite special treats. Can't think of anything else to say, so I guess this is it for another two months! LOL (No , I will *try * to post more often, but I obviously am piss-poor at it.) |
