Hello - I've seen you in the Callanetics thread and just wanted to say hi!

Funny, this morning I was looking at downloading Fitday to use on my laptop, but it is a Mac and won't run. Now I'll look into Mastercook or Accuchef - so thanks!

I'm slowly working to change my family's eating habits - we're pretty low carb, but need a better focus on organic and healthier foods, and my kids especially need to have alternatives to the junk. I've been battling to get HFCS out of our house, and haven't found a good substitute for ketchup that my kids will eat yet. Little by little. They are the only kids they know that don't get Gatorade, or those caffeine energy water drinks, or lunches that come in yellow boxes. Anything in a yellow box isn't food to me.

I'll pop in and get some great ideas from you, if you don't mind! I'm a little unsure about how to keep to low carb levels since I still need to lose about 30 lbs, but add the healthier foods in, like yogurt etc. Hopefully, the more I read the more I'll absorb!

Recipe Software

this is well worth the money and all updates are free for ever after purchase..
I can take any recipe and add it in then tell it to calculate the nutritional value per serving and it puts it right there in the recipe..

Accuchef looks similiar to Mastercook and I'm not sure but maybe you could import/export recipes back and forth to each version.

FYI re: Post to my Team 11:

Aloha Butterflies!!

Today is the end of our 12-day Induction Challenge!! How did everyone do??

OK, I cheated and weighed yesterday. Glad I did because yesterday I weighed 163. Today I weigh 166. Even tho my LCF stats say 163 ~ I started this Challenge at 166 ~ & apparently I’m still bouncing between the two. So I did NOT meet my Challenge Goal of 155. So I need to make some tweaks to my plan. Will do so by Monday. BUT I did notice on the scale that my Body Fat has gone from 30% to 25% so I must be doing something right ?? So that perfectly illustrates WHY we cannot always go by just our WEIGHT as our body comp is also CHANGING !! In a way, this is poetic justice because if you read back to Post #1 of this Thread, this was my point re: the scale.

1 – Please report your own progress/feedback on the Induction Challenge thread.

2 – After that, please switch to using this thread over the weekend:
~ Team 11 ~ Please Check-In 4 Upcoming MYResolution Challenge (Jun 2 to Dec 31) ~

3 – On Sunday evening ~ I'll create 3 new threads for us all to begin using on Monday, June 2:

a) Team 11 ~ Butterfly Stats ~ (for our stats/macros ONLY ~ there will be a simple "format" to follow)

b) Team 11 ~ Butterfly Chats ~ (for us to chit-chat & get to know each other & share health info/tips)

c) Team 11 ~ Butterfly Eats ~ (for us to post our daily/weekly menus & share recipes/food ideas)

Hi Hummingbird:

I've been a lurker on a couple of your threads

I'm noticing in the post I quoted that you mentioned Jay Robb protein powder and swelling -- might you be able to direct me to that original post? I'm trying to figure out if protein powders in general (any brand) do this to me.

Thanks!

i read that in Marsha's Journal: It my TIME

Kona Tiki Condo ~ June trip

Aloha! After my Big B'Day Bash on May 31 - we left for Kona on 6/6.

I returned on 6/15 w/ a nice virus that kept me pretty sick for a week.
AND eating "carby": LOTS of Ezekiel bread cinnamon toast + hot tea w/ honey.
FINALLY started feeling "human" again this weekend...

Here's to GETTING BACK ON TRACK w/ FOCUSED DAMAGE CONTROL MEASURES !!!!!
(for me, back to LC yesterday)

Brief "diet breaks" can be good for your metabolism. Btinc advised me to "shake it up" while I was "away": Alternate eating low/high calories on different days + eating at different times of day + Alternate days of high fat/low carb + low fat/high carb. I ate pretty LC (most days) but there were a LOT of "adult beverages"! And of course I did NOT track ANY of this! No time/No energy. In fact, I'm not gonna start tracking my “macros” again till July 1st. No time/No energy. (end of fiscal year at work…ugh)

Anyway, I think the “shake it up” approach is what helped me to basically eat/drink whatever/whenever I wanted, yet not gain any "real" weight over the 10 days while I was "away" (not even going to refer to it as "vacation" as we worked our ARSES off!) We're going back in November (over Thanksgiving w/ my MOM) to RELAX & ENJOY the fruits of our labor during this trip!

I came back on 6/15 at 171 lbs ~ but it was ALL lymph fluid - all 6 lbs!
Within a week, I'm back down to my profile weight of 165 lbs!
And determined to see 159 SOON !!!!!

XO,
HB

my 3-month assessment

well, I'm 45 and I look at it like this: I didn't gain it overnight and I'm not gonna lose it overnight either!

I've lost 10 lbs since March 24 … 3 months today!

LOTS of up/down fluctuations along the way, but I think I can safely say I'm at 165. Now on to 159...

I'd hoped for triple this amount of weight loss by now, but let's face it, I haven't been on plan the whole time! OK, let's say I stayed on plan for 2 out of 3 months. That sounds about right. So I've lost a little over 1 lb per week. Not so bad. Sounds about right for healthy weight loss. Fast doesn't always = Better.

And keep in mind that the closer you are to goal; the slower you will lose. Those with more weight to lose; lose a lot faster.

TIPS:

Be consistent. And track everything you eat.

Eat to your BMR. Too few calories is almost as bad as too many calories. Eat within your BMR daily calorie range; but every couple of days switch from eating at the low end to the high end. Don't let your body become complacent!

Don't "guess" at stuff like "maxing out at 1500 calories per day" & I don't think anyone should ever eat "less than 1200 calories per day". That is shooting yourself in the foot. Eating less than your BMR will simply slow down your metabolism & leptin levels so you WILL GAIN when you resume normal eating (and you will resume).

Calculate your Calorie Intake Range here:
BMR!!! Eating To your BMR... No Matter What!

Mine is 1600-1800 per day. Never below 1200. Never above 2200.

Try HIIT cardio and be sure to do resistance/weight training. If all you're doing is steady state cardio, you're not burning fat or building muscle (to burn calories).

If you've been Low Carbing for an extended period, take a brief diet break to trick your body. And/or try carb cycling. The human body is a very complex piece of machinery; it can guess what you are up to so you must go to great lengths not to let it suspect "diet"!

Last but not least, are you staying "on plan" ~ or are there too many little "cheats" here & there?

good luck everyone!
(including me!)
HB
