I am doing OK! Thanks for asking!

I want to get back into the habit of posting my Daily Macros, but since I don't use Fit Day, it's kind of a pain. But I'm going to re-start SOON!

btw, there are different kinds of Chromium. the super helpful nutritionist at my local Whole Foods recommended Solaray brand GTF Chromium (from organically bound, trivalent chromium yeast w/ glucose tolerance factor).
sweetheart, if you enjoy nutritional yeast, this is a component. My favorite way to eat it is in egg salad. It's interesting that grains have this natural component built in to regulate our blood sugar levels......

Fawn, I really don't know a thing about that stuff, please tell me more!

The first time I ever heard of it was on MySharona's "bee pollen thread" ~
which I take (cause of you) + I've been taking MySharona's advice and taking 1 tsp of bee pollen for Energy before Exercise ~ LOVE it!

a little update re: me

Mmmmmmm! Right now, we're making Grass-fed Beef Fajitas w/ LC tortillas + homemade Margaritas w/ fresh limes from our lime tree! (mine is sweetened w/ erythritol; his with "sugar-in-the-raw)

I'm doing a "carb-up" weekend! (Friday/Saturday)
Then VLC (again) Sun thru Thurs ~ then on Friday another "carb-up".

Last night, I had alcohol (1 vodka martini + 1/2 glass red wine) for the first time in weeks...and I was polluted...seriously! I fell asleep sitting up while we were watching LOST! (Season One via Netflix)

I still haven't officially started CTFLC; I'm kinda "doing my own thing" keeping a tight eye on my Calories/Carbs. Trying to spread-out my Protein (not go over 25g per meal) and keeping my Fat high on LC & VLC days and my Fat low on HC days ~ always trying to get more Fiber.

I might continue this way until I get back from Hawaii in mid-Feb (a very quick 4-day trip for a condo board meeting) and then officially start CTFLC at that time (after another Deplete of at least 3 days - 72 hours is all it really takes to "carb deplete")

I'm anxious for my latest Lymphedema flare-up to calm down so I can get an accurate reading from my scale...

AND I've ridden my stationary bike 4 times this week!

Gonna re-incorporate upper body weights (Cory Everson!) & Callanetics & The Firm 5-Day Abs, too.
I'm returning to Exercise, one baby-step at a time. (due to my knee/back issues)

I'm doing great with water intake (70 oz a day) + taking ALL of my zillions of supplements - YAY!

Oh and this morning, Hubby said I was "skin & bones"!!!!!! Of course, I'm NOT! He was feeling my arms & back; not my fat little tummy! But it made me feel good anyway. He's so sweet. I can't wait until I'm light enough for him to pick me up; he loves to do that when I'm "thin". He tries to do it anyway, but I won't let him do it when I'm "heavy". Would probably throw-out his back!!

KUTGW everyone !!!!!

"our knees"

Hey Daisy,

Didn't you see your orthopedic doc again the other day? What did s/he say?

I spoke to mine again on Friday; here's the deal re: me:

I have both a "bruised bone" AND "a small tear in the meniscus"

He said instead of the surgery -- that he would wait the full 12 weeks (approx another month) -- but if hasnít improved -- to come back and he would do another exam and another evaluation and talk about surgery...

So another month of pain. ugh. Let's hope it gets a LOT better!

So what's YOUR story, Morning Glory ????????

And Jaimie, how are you healing ?? When is your 2nd surgery ??

I know right!? This guy also said I shouldn't have been doing ANY repetitive-motion exercise with my knee swollen as it is. WTH?? I was Nordic Tracking, doing those stretches. Grr.

This doc (same clinic) was going on vacay so I opted to take his first availability. So no procrastination for me, which is my fav thing to do if you haven't noticed.

I'm hoping he was doing a CYA regarding the 33 percent. I cannot believe it won't be much better after this meniscus tear is repaired.

yep, I kinda figured your 2nd doc would NOT be happy w/ the Nordic Track

oh that sucks.

my ortho told me NO MORE JM 30-Day Shred + to avoid the Elliptical, too!

he told me I can use the stationary bike right now -- that's IT!

and of course I take my dogs for a walk every day (but no hikes right now)

up/down stairs absolutely kill my knee --- how about you ??
(I hate standing on escalators in The City - so embarassing!)

I'm so glad you're doing the surgery right away.
YES I'd prefer to get mine done & over with too!!
(I hate to wait) 4 more weeks . . . Sigh.

ITA (so does DH) - that's gotta be a "worst case".
You def have more of a 33% chance of "better".

Manifest it baby!! Tell the Universe that it WILL be 90% better!!

How's things? Have you checked out Tom Venuto's new book? It looks really good-covers emotional eating, covers healthy carbs and not overdoing calories and staying the long run on a WOE. I think I might get this.

He is attempting to go back to work tomorrow. The only issue he is having now is that his fentanyl pain patch wears off after 48 hrs-he can't make it the 72 as prescribed. He is in tears by the time we change it and then has to spend another 8-10 hrs in bed trying to catch up with the pain. He sees the pain specialist Tuesday afternoon and we will try to get thru to him-we don't like him much he's pushing for Ray to have an outdated procedure called a sympathetomy which is basicially burning the nerves in his spine in the sympathetic nervous system. His PCP recommended if he doesn't listen to us stop seeing him & request Dr. Barclay back-she's the doc who gave the definitive diagnosis of the RSD. Keep your fingers crossed things go well tomorrow! I have to do all the driving now as it is Ray's right leg that is affected but I keep repeating the mantra God doesn't burden you with more than you can handle-it will make me stronger.

Hi Ya HB!

Yikes, just reading all about everyone's knee problems give me a headache!

I am scheduled to have my left one done on February 12. I have to check with our HR person here to figure out the best way to take the time off.

I was very skeptical about getting it done on the 12th...but with my working at a school and limited paid days off...I really need to do it then. If I wait until April vacation, I may not be able to dance and teach for our big show in June, so my options are pretty limited.

I shouldn't complain though...we have good insurance, so that is one less worry.

Gotta run...very busy here at school today

Hugs

Hope the deplete went well and you had a good weekend. Just thought I'd let you know I took your advice oh wise one and started a thread and got some good advice already! Have also been reading up on egg creams too, they sound quite nice, and your name popped up there quite a bit too!!

Started LC properly today! GULP! Just wanted to know how do I place a link at the bottom of my posts to my thread? Would be grateful to know.

Have lots of triumphs this week and keep smiling!!

It is excellent material about the psychology of this WOE:

Why is low-carb is harder the second time around, part II | The Blog of Michael R. Eades, M.D.
that was great! esp this part:

The insight that Dr. Glasser had and that I recognized in myself and in my patients as soon as I read his book was that people spend all their time worrying and stressing about things they canít control and end up ceding control over the things that they can control completely.

Going back to our example at the start of this post, my patient who put her mother in the hospital didnít have any real control over any part of what was happening. She couldnít control her motherís disease, she couldnít really control much of anything that went on in the hospital. But she worried constantly about these things she couldnít control and abandoned her diet, over which she had total, 100 percent control.

People do this all the time. One of the very few things we have complete control over is what we put in our mouths. Unless someone hogs us down, pries open our jaws and force feeds us, we have total and complete control of our eating. Yet how many times have we heard people say (or have said ourselves), I just couldnít do the diet with all this going on. I lost all control.

Dr. Glasser understands about the rider and the elephant and the multiple warring selves, although he doesnít call them such. And he has a game plan for dealing with them, which puts the control squarely in our hands.

He explains that all behavior has four components. He doesnít explain these in dietary terms, but I will.

1. the physiological component
2. the feeling component
3. the thinking component
4. the doing component

We donít have any control over the first two and only partial control over the third. But we have total control over the fourth, the doing component. Letís look at how this all works with food.

Imagine youíre sitting in your office minding your own business when a co-worker comes in with a box of fresh, hot donuts, sticks the box in your face and says, ĎHave one.í What happens?

First, your physiology kicks in. Your pancreas says, uh oh, here comes some sugar. Better get a little insulin cranked out to get ready for it. You get a spurt of insulin and your blood sugar starts to fall.

Then, as your blood sugar falls, you start to feel hungry. And your stomach starts to churn as it gets ready. This is the feeling component. And you have no control over this. It all happens and it is totally beyond your control.

Then you think about how good a donut would taste. And you imagine it. And you say to yourself, hey, itís only one. What could it hurt? This is the thinking component, and you do have some control over it. But with the physiology and feeling components hard at work, itís difficult not to think about the donuts. Difficult, but not impossible.

And all the above happens in just a few seconds.

Then you grab a donut and eat it. The doing component. You have complete control over this component. You choose to eat the donut. All the other components are ragging on you and you cave. And you say you had no control, but you really did. If someone had told you they were going to shoot you if you ate one of the donuts, you wouldnít have eaten it. All the other three components (at least the first two) would have been acting the same, but you wouldnít touch the donuts. You can control the doing component if you want to. Problem is the other three components gang up on you, trying to disable your will.

But, this can all the dealt with.

Dr. Glasser realized that the physiology to feeling to thinking to doing progression could be reversed. Since you have complete control over only the doing component, youíve got to do something. And once you do, you can foil the progression. Because if you take different action, you can drive the progression the other way.

If you get up from your desk and say, No thanks, then leave your office and go involve yourself with something else all the components start to fall in line. Once you start doing something different, you start thinking about it, then your feelings of hunger go away and soon even your physiology falls into line. Your liver produces glucose to make up for that the little spurt of insulin knocked down, and soon youíre back to normal. And it doesnít take all that long.

So, basically, we can be driven by a progression over which we have no control to abdicate the one thing we do have control over, our actual active doing. Or we can use our ability to do something to reverse control all the components that we donít have direct control over.

Realizing that I had this ability to control the seemingly uncontrollable made a huge difference in my life years ago and continues to do so today. Knowing that I can control virtually any behavior, but especially my dietary behavior, by simply focusing my attention and effort onto a task or other activity has kept me on the straight and narrow multiple times when strong temptation fell in my path.

If the high-carb demon is goading you to go face down, telling you that you have uncontrollable cravings, just force yourself to go do something else. Soon the cravings will be gone. It takes a little practice, but it helps to repeat the mantra: I have 100 percent control of what goes in my mouth.

Take the advice of Dr. Glasser. Start worrying less over those things you canít control and accept that you have no control over them. And take back control of the things you can. If you do so, you will be a much happier person. And a much thinner person.

Hey Lisa,

I hope Hubby's transition to work (today?) was smooth?
How did the appt go w/ the pain specialist?
Yep, got to STAY AHEAD of that darn pain!

I read this quote and thought of you:

I just wish that He didn't trust me so much!"

Went very well and actually listened to us and saw us for about 40 minutes. Pretty good for a doc nowadays-course I didn't let him off the hook with my questions either. Ray will have another nerve block on Friday-these are not just for pain mgt but also to try to reset his body's sympathetic nervous system and hopefully trigger remission. The RSD has been caught early and now is the time to be aggressive with treatment as later well it may just be too late-we don't want the leg to atrophy. Doc is onboard with changing his fentanyl patch at 48 hrs instead of 72-said Ray is not sitting or laying around but has tried to be active from the get go and he needs pain relief to be at work. He also wants to do a femoral block because the neuro found some nerve damage as well and the pain doc wants to see how he responds but we have to get the ok from the neuro before he does this. He is tired and in pain but is pushing thru it-he still only sleeps 3-4 hours at a stretch. But that is a symptom of a pain disorder-disrupted sleeping. So far so good and he will also start therapy-the biggest fear again is atrophy of the leg and we want to do everything we can to prevent that. How are things with you?

Good morning HB. Just sending some love your way. You are a thoughtful and generous person and I appreciate all your insight into my own journey, which you have been through and learned so much from.

I have missed you, too.

The Blueberry Pancake lady is about to post an update on the CTFLC thread

What's goin' on with YOU ??

R U takin' a little break from CTFLC ??

ya know, the only Constant in Life is Change.

and our ability to Survive depends on our ability to Evolve

I know you know this; but I'm just sayin'.

Because you should NOT feel any "twinges" (of anything 'cept pure excitement) if you feel that you need to "try a new way" or "embark on a new path" or heck, knowing YOU: "blaze a new trail" !!!!!

I've been busy, in sort of a funk lately. I missed you though! I'm not sure what I'm doing. I'm missing fruit and my wine nightly. I love it on my carb up days but would love to have a glass every night to wind down and relax. I was looking at South Beach and Sonoma diets (I think I could skip that first stage in both) since I did my deplete week to the letter. Just don't know what to do. I'm going to give it one more cycle and if I'm still stalled I might venture on to new things. Love your support and openness.

You got it sister; anytime! This is what it's ALL about, no?

LisaB suggested SBD to me, too. Hmmm. Wine every night?

I've been doing very well sans wine, tho. Who'd a thought ??

In fact, I had a taste of Hubby's red wine the other night and BLECH!

am I losing my wine palette? arrrgg. took years to develop that!!

but it should be FUN developing my "taste for wine" again, eh?

let's stay in touch on what we ultimately decide to do ~ K?
and that's NOT the "royal we" ~ I mean, me too !!

I'm scanning so many books right now:

CTFLC
CALP
The Diet Cure
The Glycemic Load Diet

I should read SBD, too!

In the end, we know what to do. Thanks Btinc/Twyla! (for me)
and I have to say, CTFLC really "synthesized" it ALL for me.
Tho there are a few tidbits that I do not fully agree with...
All in All ~ I like the way Wendy ties it ALL together!
Much of what I have learned at LCF + other sources is validated in CTFLC.

BUT, I know that I'm not a "follow the rules" type person.

I WANT TO BE.

But I'm not.

But I pretty much already eat the way Wendy prescribes:

Varying my carbs high/low and eating any starches at Breaky or Lunch.

(usually never @ Dinner except on Pizza Night)

BUT will that get me to weight loss ??

I think so !!

Like the lady (Donna) that just posted in Twyla's Journal.

Read her siggy line. Something clicked for me when I read that.

We got the Nutrition & Exercise down. We already hold The Key!

I think we can do this without a restrictive "Plan" per se.

Tho the Guidelines DO guide & reinforce our knowledge.

With that said ... I do wanna take a shot at the 8 weeks!
After I post over there, please tell me if I'm done Depleting?

Either way, I am fine.
Because over the past month, I've mitigated much of the damage I did over the Holidaze.
And I've "tamed" several "demons": cravings for carbs; sugar; alcohol; nicotine; etc.
Plus even switched anti-depressants (Wellbutrin instead of Effexor)
And pain-meds (Vicodin instead of Percocet)

It is PROGRESS, no?

I FEEL GOOD about what I'm eating; even tho it may not reflect on the scale (yet).

I haven't been on the scale in at least 2 weeks. Gonna take a reading on Feb 1st.
(my Lymphedema/Ascites flare-ups better calm down by then (fluid = xtra weight)

so I can easily subtact 5-10 lbs from my "real weigh" in body fluid alone!

I'm working on that too, tracking down another supplement suggested by LisaB!

But for you, ya know -- maybe just a "Diet Break" in general, might be good ??
Maybe take a week or 2 & eat/drink what you want; exactly when you want.

And then start something NEW for the NEW YEAR!!
Or come back to CTFLC for another Cycle. But maybe a break?

btinc! R U reading this? what do YOU think?
