~~~Food Addict in Recovery~~~
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous
I attended my second meeting last night. The group reads from the AA big book but has its own pamphlets. Since I never do anything halfway I decided to get a sponsor, attend 4 meetings a week, and place myself squarely in their food plan of 3 measured meals a day with no snacks in between or after dinner. It is more food than I've eaten these past few weeks. There is no calorie counting or Fitday madness.
Today is my first day on the plan and I've been very involved with the stress of work. There is no desire to eat.
My sponsor, a young lady, named Mara is very strict and said the only way I can get her to help me is attend meetings, call her every day at 6am, as well as a few others on the phone list, and more importantly to have faith in His will.
Right now, I'm 135lbs. and my height is 5'6". Once a week I will have to weigh myself and see if the plan works and to adjust accordingly.
Also, it is killing two birds with one stone by also removing myself from alcohol.
Second Day on FAIRA Plan
I called my sponsor, Mara, this morning (after I did my 101 & 1 Crunches - Sorry, Conbofan, if you read this I really am enjoying this exercise and a little competition keeps me going! Thank you for the idea! ) and we went over my planned menu for today. The 3 measured meals are plentiful and do last between meals. I had a very stressful day yesterday but muddled through. I was tempted later in the evening but I prayed for Him to give me strength. I hope for the same strength today and every day afterwards.
Bless you~
Large FA Gathering Today
To any new readers
Today, I went to a Saturday meeting at my local hospital and was surprised and mostly shocked at the amount of people attending. If I'm not comfortable, I get nervous and feel embarrassed about meeting other people or speaking in front of people. I met some new wonderful people and they encourage you to call them when you feel the need to take a bite or simply to chat. I do not like talking to people about such a sensitive subject and I'd rather be humorous. My sponsor, Mara suggested I call people from the phone lists they gave to me at the meeting. "Hi, this is Lora, I'm a newbie, Mara asked me to call to say, "hello"? Maybe soon I can overcome this shyness.
BTW, FA follows AA guidelines and in fact reads from what they call "The Big Book" but substitute "alcohol" for "food". I should say we because I am in my full second day of abstinence. Everyone there no matter what background they have do have on thing in common and that is Food Addiction.
I am a Food Addict.
My 3 planned and measured meals as follows:
Breakfast: 6oz. lowfat yogurt, 6oz. strawberries, 1oz. oatmeal, 4oz. 1% Milk
Lunch: 4oz. Chicken Pattie, 6oz. Green Salad, 6oz. of Broccoli, 1tbs. of EVOO
Dinner: 4oz. Tuna, 6oz. waxed beans, 6oz. Green Salad, 4oz. Potato and 1tbs. of EVOO
Weekend Success!
I made it! I freed myself from binging but most importantly I realized if I am going to be away from home longer than expected than I have to bring my lunch and maybe even my dinner. I still pray for strength to help me between bites. I think my body is already starting to go through some adjustment because I feel every ache in my body! Tough workouts this weekend!
Here was my menu today:
Breakfast: 6oz. Lowfat Yogurt, 1 green apple, 1oz. Oatmeal, 4 oz. 1% Milk
Lunch: 4oz. Salmon, 6oz. Green Salad, 6oz. Broccoli, 1tbs. oil
Dinner: 4oz. Turkey Pattie, 6oz. Green Salad, 6oz. Asparagus, 4oz. Brown Rice, and 1tbs. oil
Hi Lora! First, thanks for stopping by my journal!
Second, you are such an inspiration! At times, I have wondered about my relationship with food. Good for you for taking the bull by the horns! Much continued success to you!!
One Week and Counting...
Thanks Fifi!
With meetings to attend, work, and going to the gym, I'm quite the busy lady these days. Yet it keeps me sane and I'm grateful to God for everything I have and the strength to keep on plan and not take the bite.
I'm on my 7th Day of Abstinence with 83 more days to go to complete the first 90 days of my Food Recovery Journey. Then I will get a chance to be more involved with helping others in FA and eventually after 180 days I can become a sponsor. Of course, that is in the future and I have to take one day at a time.
For instance, this morning after my 30 minutes of quiet time, I discovered my digital food scale had gone "kaput". With FA, 3 weighed and measured meals is the most vital part of the program and without the scale, oh, boy! Consider yourself doomed. How could I think of food when I was not a happy camper? I said the serenity prayer to myself and remained calm. My stress levels are at their highest right now with TOM and my job. The last thing I need is a flour and sugar product to screw up the good works I've done so far. 83 days to go to the first goal...
What day is this?
Being in the FA program isn't easy and tell you the truth I am pissed off! My sponsor suggested I move slower in my pursuit of becoming a Certified Physical Trainer and exercise less and "call" people and become more involved. I really don't know if this is helping my Binge Eating Disorder. I want to look a certain way and there is an obsessiveness that won't seem to go away. I have to try harder for me. I must but its so tough and praying to God and getting on my knees is even tougher.
I have met some wonderful people in the program at these meetings. They are an inspiration and in many ways motivating, but...but...there is something holding me back and I don't know how long I can be on this program without telling them to go jump in a lake.
My DB and I thought it would be best to seek other alternative measures to FA at this time.
I agree! I will never stop searching until I get to the root of the problem and live life normally and "free"!!
