Here's to Finally Getting it Right!

OK - This Time I'll Do It Right!

Well, here I am again. I've been struggling for the past 5 years keeping my weight off. Three times I've lost 30 lbs on Atkins and 3 times I've gained it (or most of it) back again.

So, now I'm trying to focus on exercise, and not following the diet to a T, hoping that I won't go through that rebellion after I loosen up the induction strings! I really need for this to turn into a lifetime habit - a true way of living for me. I'm trying to focus on healthy choices within low carb eating, rather than strict induction.

I've been so inspired reading the Callanetics threads here. I've ordered dvd's - 10 in 10 and Evolution. The 10 in 10 video I sold years ago in a garage sale - loved it then, but was just done I guess. Hopefully I'll see the same results in my mid-40's. I don't know, everything seems to be slowing down for me.

Otherwise I'm doing several dvds - WATP (various) and Ballet Conditioning mostly. I've bought myself a full library, trying to find the right combination so there will always be something there no matter what my mood is.

That's it for day 1. I've taken my measurements and we'll see my progress in a month.

I put this in a blog, but really wanted to start a journal. SO, here it is copied again for my first journal entry.

I just ordered callanetics 10 in 10. I have never even heard of it, but like you, became inspired after reading the boards. The book is amazing (have not actually started yet)

Good luck to you.

Hi - thanks for the warm welcome. Once I figure out how to visit your journals, I'll visit back! I guess I just click on your addresses in the signature. Which means I also have to figure out how to get mine in my signature!

OK, so I had a talk to myself. It's April 5th already, so I decided on that day to do induction or as close to it as possible for just the rest of this month. 25 days. After that, I'll decide if I'll continue on, or start adjusting my diet. Part of me is even considering low cal, and forgetting about the low carb. This goes against my thinking for the past 5 years, and I don't know if it would be a mistake, given that I might start eating the house. For now, I'll just focus on induction for this month, exercise for this month and that's it. Hopefully, I'll get a boost and the short duration might "trick" my mind into foregoing all the extras I can't seem to avoid right now. I might add fruit now and then, but that's all right now.

OK, for some reason I can't edit my signature correctly. I'll have to go to the sticky note section.

Today's exercise will be ballet conditioning. Callanetics arrives tomorrow (hopefully) so I'll start that on Tuesday.

Yesterday's food was spot on. Ate at Outback for dinner - had the filet and broccoli, and the blue cheese chopped salad. I suspect something might be added to the salad, but man was that good! Have to see if I can find a copycat recipe for that one!

Feeling discouraged today. Ate both peanut butter and about 12 potato chips yesterday, which definitely are not on induction! Woke up 3-1/2 lbs heavier. Can that be real?

Today I got right online and found a new thread on dvd workouts for April. Read and did my dvd Ballet Conditioning. It's really great to have the support. I haven't done a dvd for about 4 days in a row, so I wasn't sure I could gather the motivation to do one today.

I must remember what someone wrote here on one of the exercise threads - motivation doesn't happen to you. You have to get up and exercise and then it will continue. Must make exercise non-negotiable, like brushing your teeth! Just do it!

I'm discouraged because I'm not losing pounds or inches. I'm just sitting still. I'm not following the diet enough or exercising enough to make any positive changes. And here it is another grey and rainy day. Summer will pop on me and I'll be fat again.

Must make new goals:
1. Stick to induction until the end of the month.
2. Do an exercise dvd at least 5 days a week.
3. Climb the stairmaster or do aerobic dvd at least 3 times a week.

See where you are the last day of April to make adjustments. Perhaps I should get off the scale between now and then. I'm not sure I could do that! Maybe weigh in once a week. If I stick to the diet, I shouldn't have any worries. (I'm afraid I'll balloon up if I don't constantly monitor) Maybe I'm making too many rules! Think I'll focus on diet and exercise and worry about all the other details next month!

Hello!
I am the same way, I get very discouraged very easily. I think maybe if you try not to weigh everyday that will help. Lots of times you wont see it in the number on the scale, but you will feel it in your clothes.

OK, so after a good day of induction, plus drinking lots of water (which I haven't been doing) I'm down the 3-1/2 plus more. 159.4. It's ridiculous how happy I am seeing that number. I'm not going to count my weight as official except for once a week. Maybe Friday would be a good day. I've got to get off the scale number rollercoaster.

Got 2 Callenetics dvd's in the mail yesterday - I'm off to do 10 in 10 now. Feeling very good today. Woke up early 2 days in a row, to try to get myself more motivated in the morning. I'm going to keep trying this, so that I can get things accomplished while the kids sleep, although one son gets up at 6:30, so there's only so much I can get done before then!

Well, I'm keeping my word with the exercising - did Evolution today and 10 in 10 yesterday. I'm loving the Callanetics now - I'm not feeling like jumping/bouncing/sweating right now. I'm definitely feeling my muscles!

Yesterday was another great induction day, although I made more taco salad so I'd have something available for lunch. It always bloats me with the salt content, but I'm not going to get upset about the slight increase, since I know what it is. I want to focus on the exercise right now - long term health girl!

Was up late yesterday, and it was hard to get up early today. Still, I managed to fold laundry (left it in the dryer last night), start a new load, switch the dishwasher, and get everyone breakfast and lunch today. Feels good to have those things out of the way. Especially since DH has a list of things that need to be done that I have to do! Nothing big, but all time consuming. Well, the exercise came first, this journal second, then comes the shower and errands!

So you like the Callanetics 10 in 10? I have not started mine yet but was reading the book (in detail) in the car while waiting to pick up my daughter. Can you really feel a difference so soon?

The book is soo good, just reading about her background and how she got into Callanetics.

My butt is killing me today. Must have done the callanetics correctly yesterday!

Today will be only a cardio - one of the WATP dvd's. Don't know which one. Thursday mornings are busy, so I'll have to choose one later this afternoon. Scary - I don't want to get out of the habit of working out first thing - one mess up may ruin the whole thing! But, I guess it's my challenge today.

Yesterday I did another Callanetics dvd (10 in 10) and for some reason was starving. I kept it to low carb foods but definitely went over induction levels. I don't know why I was so hungry, but I was somewhat frustrated and nervous, so maybe that was the trigger?

Today I think I'll do Evolution dvd, but I have some embroidery to do, so I'll be sitting around alot today. Hunger wise, so far so good.

Finished my dvd - Evolution and feel so good doing it. I think right now I prefer the newer Callanetics dvd to the original because it gives the beginner positions, of which I obviously am! 10 in 10 is so hard for me sometimes since I can't always get into the proper positions, and I struggle with it. And mentally it's a challenge, since I know it will be hard. But, there are exercises on there that I do like so I'll keep switching it up with them.

I have to be honest in here and say I am a little disappointed. Today is day 6 and I've eaten pretty close to induction levels this week and I've exercised every day, and I'm hoping for a quick pull-in from Callanetics, and I'm seeing neither right now. I guess I was hoping for super quick results! I'm not giving up though, and hopefully in another 2 weeks I'll see something substantial, or at least noticable!

I had to rush off my post yesterday, due to kids. What I wanted to say was that I'm within about 1-1/2 lbs of my starting weight as of Monday, and I thought if I did induction I'd get a little better drop than this. Especially since I've been exercising.

But, today I feel good - I feel the exercise working inside me, even though there's no difference in my jeans yet. Too early. I do feel stronger and better stretched.

Today was a day off - no exercise. Back to it tomorrow.

Well, I dropped some weight! Down to 158.2. So glad I saw a little drop - it gives me some energy to continue!

I think I need to edit my signature - I've got all my goals in there right now and it's too messy. Guess I'll monitor my goal progress in my journal.

Will do Callanetics Evolution once my second guy is off to school.

I want to keep track of my exercise so later I can go back and see what I did, if I need to get back on track, or tweak something. So...

Last week:
Monday - Ballet Conditioning
Tuesday - Callanetics 10 in 10
Wednesday - Callanetics Evolution
Thursday - WATP
Friday - 10 in 10
Saturday - Evolution
Sunday - off

Weight Lost: 1.8 lbs (I'm going to ignore the 3-1/2 spike and just start at 160)
Size - 12, fairly tight

I'll try to post a recap every week to be able to find it easier.

This week:
Monday - Evolution
Tuesday - 10 in 10

I'm really impressing myself with how I'm sticking to the exercise. I haven't done this well in years. Literally. I guess I am hoping/knowing that going through these somewhat painful and definitely humbling exercises will pay off quite quickly - at least that's what everyone says - so I'm thinking it's worth it. I also find it very relaxing to do theses from the manner of the instructors and the quieting music, even though the actually exercises are tough. I know my stretching is already so much better - that makes your body feel so much better just walking around.

Today is a beautiful sunny day (not so warm, but sunny) and believe it or not DH wants me to run an errand to the bookstore, so my day will be a pleasure!

Lost another 0.6 lbs. I'm feeling very even keel about this go round at dieting/exercising. I'm crediting the exercising with making me feel better all round.

Down 0.2 lbs today - that's like a sneeze, right?

Today was busy with housework and errands - didn't even have time to exercise. I'm debating whether to give my body a day off or do something. It's so gorgeous out I'd like to walk, but didn't have time today and one of the boys have a playdate after school today. Maybe tonight.

Today I'm 155.6. What a lovely number!

Thursday was a no exercise day, yesterday was 10 in 10. Today I'll do Evolution, and since it is a gorgeous Saturday, hopefully I'll wind up having a nice walk somewhere.

Except for the potato chip/pb "incident" on the 6th, I've done quite well staying close to induction levels since the 5th. So actually, I guess I've started on the 7th, which is only 12 days ago. It seems longer when I don't account for my sloppy eating days. I guess about 5 lbs in 12 days is good, since I haven't been strictly induction anyway. 11 more days until the end of April, so we'll see where that gets me scalewise.

There's some talk on the Callanetics website about ditching your scale and just measuring yourself based on your clothing. I think that's a great idea AFTER I lose some more weight! Seriously, there's a long way to go before I feel good about changes in my clothing - I'll take the little drops on my scale along the way. I'm trying to envision at what level will I be happy just monitoring the way my clothes fit. Size 10? Maybe, if I'm strong enough in my diet and exercise to not need to monitor my daily progress.

I am going to start the Callanetics Sunday night. Still a little bit confused on where to begin. I agree about getting rid of the scale, just using the tape measure. Easier said than done.

This morning's weight was 155.8. In the past 2 weeks, I've lost about 5 lbs. I'll measure myself with tape, but don't really expect much over 2 weeks.

I'm at the whiny stage of doing 2 weeks of exercise and not seeing 6 months of results! I'll have to continue on, since the days will go by anyway, and hopefully by June will see some real results. We had one day of 80 degree weather which gave me a scare about putting this body into shorts! I can't fit into my smaller shorts of last summer yet, so I really need to buckle down and get serious!

I took yesterday (Monday) off from exercise, but really need to start doing cardio on those "off" days. Watch-Me-Shrink (Twyla) suggested I switch from 3 days of Callan to 2 days plus cardio, which I think I will do. I just so badly want to see the body changes that I hope to get from Callan!

Today I did 10 in 10 and did pretty well. I was stronger on the stomach exercises, and really felt the hip ones. Still not so great on those leg ones. The Evolution legs are easier for me to do, since I don't have to be up on my toes.

Today (Wednesday) I did Evolution. DS has half days this week so my time is rushed during the day.

I was pretty down today due to family issues. I wanted to dive into food, but stopped myself, so I guess I'll count a victory.

Recap of the weeks exercise:

Monday - off
Tuesday - Evolution
Wednesday - 10 in 10
Thursday - off
Friday - Evolution
Saturday - 10 in 10
Sunday - Evolution

Two days off this week, and still didn't do any cardio. I'm too lazy to put one in and sweat. I think I'll have to spring for CardioCallanetics since it's the only thing that's jazzing me up lately.

Today my weight is 155.8, and TOM has started. Kind of weird not an ounce gained. So, the scale will be wacky for a few days at least, so I'll try not to weigh or at least take my weight seriously until Thursday or so.

Yesterday one of my pants were loose on me. (The other pair fit fine, unfortunately) I can't remember the last time I felt like a pair of pants were loose. How sad. But, how happy now that it is happening and I'm finally moving back down, instead of up. I'm hoping in 2 weeks, all my pants are feeling loose, I can fit into my capris from last spring, and keep moving on downward!

Well, I guess I haven't been good about journalling my exercise. I think I remember:
Monday - Evolution
Tuesday - Off
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - 10 in 10

I got CardioCallanetics in the mail and tried to do it after 10 in 10, but my legs were so shaky I couldn't get through it. It's discouraging to be so out of shape. I keep reading about the awesome results some are getting on the callanetics thread, and I am just not having the same results. It's like that with atkins too - my weight just creeps down so slowly, but if I eat badly it piles back on so quickly. According to the scale, I was 157.4 today - how did I gain 2 lbs this week?

I've had a really strong TOM this week - I don't know if it's got me emotionally out of kilter, but I'm feeling really badly - like I want to chuck it all and just eat myself into oblivion. Sometimes I feel like I'll be fat forever - why bother? I guess this is turning into a big whine session, maybe I need one. I'm not eating off plan, and I did exercise today so I'm OK actually, just fighting that voice in my head.

Well, one of my goals was to stick to induction (or as close to it) as I could until the end of the month. Now I reassess. Should I continue on, or should I up the carbs? I'm not sure if I really lost the 5 lbs now, or if TOM is affecting the scale. I guess I should continue with keeping as low of carbs as possible. I am eating too many pistachio nuts, I know. I need to find a quick snack replacement for them. I guess I'll allow for some fruit, if the occasion arises or I want some. I'll try for the end of May, and then reassess again.

Today I tried the cauliflower pizza crust, but didn't have all the correct ingredients. I ate it - it was pretty good, but I'll try for lunch again to perfect it before I try it with the family. I think I need to get more adventurous with the recipes - I'm getting bored with some of my food. Trouble with some of them is that they try to resemble stuff I don't want to think about eating - like doughnuts. I'd rather learn to eat healthy stuff, not continue eating substitutes for bad stuff.

I need to be drinking alot more water. I haven't drank much for days. Hmmm, maybe that's why I'm gaining.
