Awww, thank you!
Oh, I slept GREAT. Last night I noticed my neighbor had some equipment. Oh-oh. That means a loud project. I slept good but woke up tired. Well, I am short some blood. I took my shower, had a snack, and we went to Foodtown. We came home and put up the stuff. I was really tired. Ron kept exclaiming over the computer room, I took him in there and we sat on the couch for a while. I showed him the bookcase I'd moved and he sorted out the scrabble and domino stuff. We are short 3 scrabble letters. - other than that, we're fine. I suggested getting a folding card table. We could use that for games, as we sat on the couch. Ron loved it. I put the games on the bookcase. We chatted for a while and I got ready to take my nap. I heard incredibly loud banging, yelling in Spanish, and knew I wouldn't get any sleep! HA! I have my OTHER bed now. I went into the computer room and unfolded it, and told Ron if he wanted to see it made up and spread out now was the time. He came in and asked if there was room for 2. Since I lost the weight, I could say yes. We snuggled and talked for a while, and then he left. He kept exclaiming how comfortable it was. Yup. I slept so hard, I dreamed I was sleeping in someone else's yard! I was in full-on drool nap. Oh, I slept GOOD! Now I'm up and ready to go after about an hour. Yes! I love my meds. I put up my newest one photo here, and now I'll go put up the 2 I took of my little nest. Oh, worth every penny. Ron said he'd pay for half but I don't care if I pay the whole $164. Worth, it, worth it, worth it.

Great job, Heather! Glad you'll be able to sleep, no matter what the neighbors are doing!
Cute little fold out! Nice price too! Q.: Can Ron actually "see" well enough to "see" your decorating? |

Nope. Completely blind since age 8. He had very little vision, but he can recall rainbows, blue, the color of grass, yellow, etc.
He cares more about texture, obviously. His only reqest was make the blanket hang down to the floor - easy to do. The sofa itself is dark grey. The pillows are mine. The pile of "stuff" at the base of the bookcase is the bedding, which I'm going to put in the closet. I told Ron I'm glad we have practical stuff, instead of "nice things" we are afraid to use. I have floor to ceiling curtains in turqoise lace, in the front room. They would probably be "too much" if he could see. Oh, and we decided to call this the game room. ![]() Last edited by Houston Heather; 10-17-2009 at 01:27 PM.. |

Ron wanted me to put some CD's (in those 50-count cases) on the bookcase in here. Cool. I'm glad he feels free using it.
I'm smoking cheddarburgers and a turkey thigh. Tons of meat and only 80 cents a pound. All I need to do with the other one is throw it in the crock pot with a little onion, bay leaf, and water - let it cook up into some stock. Then make turkey & veggie soup, freeze some, eat some. Ron and I are listening to music as I cook 'em up. Party next door - glad I have my fold-out bed! |

........80 cents a pound? For turkey???? That's a pretty good price. I'm coming down to shop! j/k
I just canned and pressure canned about a dozen quarts of turkey/veg/Dreamfields pasta SOUP. We had this carcus left from a 15 # turkey that DD won at a fundraiser. It made a lot of soup and I hate for everyone to get sick of it. Will NOT throw it away. So got DS's pressure canner and did it up. It will be nice, come the cold winter. When I first started reading, I thought you had found some new recreational smoking stuff he he he ...smoking cheddarburgers. Brain is slow today. You DO have some active neighbors, don't you?!

I would love to do some canning, Sharon. Foodtown has excellent prices on meats, though, so I can generally get a soup bone or something if I'm in the mood for soup. The smoked turkey thigh looks good, I'm going to freeze it.
Oh yeah. They like the cat. I told you about psycho teacher. Threatened to kill Bubba-cat 'cause he LOOKED at her. Almost beat me up one day when I asked her not to park in front of my house. She had a huge driveway that can park up to 6 cars. It was only her and her husband, 2 cars. She got so nasty I lost my temper. About the time she balled up her fist, she saw Ron stumble and almost fall. I yelled at her "If he falls it's YOUR FAULT." Then I went and helped him. She stopped parking in front of the house. They moved out a few weeks later. She hated cats THAT much. Just a scary, scary, woman. She was a teacher too, thank God I do not have children, especially children in her district. So, that's my benchmark "bad neighbor" - no one else has even come close to that. [shudder]I can handle rowdiness. I did tell the older boy (tonight), the one who kept losing his ball over the fence, it was "OK for you to get it". Meaning, I'm not playing fetch. After the second retrieval he decided to play another game. I am FOR SURE sleeping on the fold out tonight. Oh, there was a big fire on 1960 (a very busy thoroughfare lined with stores, miles and miles long) today. The whole street was shut down and they called out over 80 firemen. Thank God I did stay home. Whooo. Meds got me goofy today. |

I was given enough fresh red tomatoes (mostly roma) to cook and reduce to thickness.............14+ quarts of homemade garlicy spaghetti sauce. The grandbabies (all 3 of them) and DD chowed down on it at supper time. I have ground beef hamburger for the meat in it. What a blessing that will be this cold winter when it's snowing out!
I also received a big industrial sized can of cranberry sauce. I love cranberries but this is sweetened with HFC and sugar. My mom likes it though so I'm going to can it tomorrow in smallish jars for her! Her birthday is Halloween EVE. The anniversary of my dad's passing is on Halloween. I like to give her happy things the rest of this month just to cheer her up. |

You're a sweetie, Sharon.
One thing my (birth)Mom did that I loved - sending "just because" gift boxes. It might have clothes, jewelry. One time she sent me a pendant with a motivational message on it. They were so much fun. Next week ought to be fun - Ron and I are meeting my aunt and uncle in their neck of the woods. I ALWAYS enjoy seeing them. I watched a good scary movie and drank buckets of tea. I got hungry, so I ate more cheddarburgers. The neighbor's party is over, thank God. Bedtime... I'm sure tired. |

I slept great. I was so happy when I woke up. Ron had gotten out "Happy" - the yellow mix afghan I made him last year. It is 5 feet by 5 feet, solid garter stitch. Apparently, he got chilly. It did my heart good to know that he wants to reach for it, when he's cold..
Ron is 136.0 according to talking scale. He needs to eat some Kolaches! I haven't weighed in a while, but my jeans all fit great. I'm effectively happy where I am, but 10 more pounds would be nice. My aunt says I'm "solid" with very little flab. In a couple of hours, we go to Starbucks. It's a very nice day. I will probably go to the Christian bookstore and get another case of Bibles for work. Come home, grab a nap. Help Ron with some book-keeping. Yak at my sister at some point. Do some cooking - I have a pot roast and pork chops that still need cooking. Yum. Yum. Not to mention my delicious turkey & veggie soup. I'm going to put the crock pot in an ice bath, to rapidly chill the stock. Then put it in the fridge. |

I got Ron's old speakers out of the garage, playing some tunes. Later on I need to "do" some Bibles.
I would hate to get raptured (won't get into religious theory here), with a bunch of Bibles on the bookcase, where they did the "most good". ![]() |

Religious theory is okay by me. It might be an issue on the boards. Don't know. But, yes, get them "done" so you can hand them out. Seems like you're always in the right spot for witnessing!

Really, really, tired. I feel like no matter how much sleep I get it isn't "enough" - to me that says "Heather, you are running depressed." (Still?)
Anyway, got up. Our ride was really, really, late because a drunken driver drove into the side of a Tyson Chicken Big Rig. I could not make this up! I'm sorry for his family, if he has any. What a way to go to Jesus [snort]. I'd better watch my mocking or a Port-a-Potty is going to fall off a truck and get me one day. EEW. Our driver was really late, and had a few drop-offs before work. We only got 2 hours instead of 3. I hit the snack machines and filled them up. I also brought in the rest of my Bibles, minus 10 for handouts, to work. To restate, I took in about 38 complete Bibles and New Testaments. I also tossed in a devotional book I never read (gasp of horror). Let's hope they get loving new homes. The laid-off will have their last day on the 31st, so I have a limited window. I'll bring in as many as possible, until the Bibles start loafing around on the bookcase for a few days. I expect most of them to be gone tomorrow. Time for our pickup, we left. Then Walmart, I found a nice, complete Spanish Bible. It's the kind that had the reading plan in the back, which of course has me craving a whole case of these rascals. I'm trying to hunt some down - not much luck. If God wants me to have them, I will. He's a lot more powerful than me! I'm a little tired and draggy, but I'll make it. I may jump up a little on my lithium dose and take 450 mg instead of 300. I hate depressions. |

Yup, it's a NASTY little snip of depression.
I am listening to "Mirror" by Barlow Girl. I could also watch this: - Ron mowing the yard. You get a good look at his chest scars. Anyway, I just need to be strong for a little while until my double dose of lithium kicks in. I need to do some cooking, Bible study, etc. I was happy to read that the prez is going to stop going after medical marijuana now. It's not legal in Texas, but it's legal in other states. Ron would definitely qualify and it makes me happy to give big booze the "finger". I still carry resentment about the FAS. I'm not dumb enough to smoke or drink anything stronger than Diet Dr Pepper, and jack with my meds. God forbid! |

Homemade turkey soup - kept me busy, and a delicious dinner. By the time it was done the lithium was doing it's mood balancing thing. Just to make SURE, I nailed another one with dinner.
I also did dishes and got a pot roast started in my little crock pot. 2 pounds will hold us for quite a while. I saved 1 bowl of turkey soup for tomorrow and froze the rest. Yum, yum. There was so much meat on the thigh, I only used half of it. ![]() |

The pot roast smells so delicious even Ron, the king of the TV dinner, wants one. I just put 1 small can of tomato sauce and 4 ounces of red wine, with the meat.
Tonight I need to fry up the pork chops, then I'm done. I have plenty of food which makes me happy. I have a nice variety too. However, it's kind of hard not to beat myself up. I had an OK mood today, just pretty tired because I literally took double the lithium yesterday. I'm not depressed; just tired. I went to Sam's club and bought candy for the machines. The machines look pretty darned good considering. I realized I can stop with the Bibles - I still had a couple dozen in the giveaway box. I actually didn't give out a single Bible today. I'm OK with that. So, Sam's Club, then work. Going to Sam's our ride was late, and then we rode around for over an hour. Going to work, same deal. Going home, it was late, but then we had a straight trip. I managed to finish all the Bible reading for the day in one giant shot, waiting on my ride. Ideally, when I do all my Bible study - I am reading the Bible cover to cover every 4 months, a mixture of old and new Testament. That all takes about an hour - I will do 15 minutes later on, so I did at least 45 minutes. I also brought home the Halloween !andy so I can bag that up. I had a small snack when we got home, and then straight to bed - slept until after 4. It will be raining tomorrow - exciting weather. Not ideal for going out and buying tracts and maybe some wool yarn! AGH. Oh, funny thing. Ron is so uptight about the ketchup packets we put out (salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup, and splenda by the coffee machine), that he washes them off. Today he asked me to buy him a strainer so he can put them in the strainer and rinse them off under running water! Very funny! I had a great dream. I was working downtown at a coffeeshop, and I was looking forward to telling my Dad that I worked in the 300 block of downtown. I was also doing some writing. Now I'm up. I need to pick up anything that gets "trashed" today, take out the trash, eat, cook my pork chops, freeze pot roast and pork chops, maybe eat my soup for dinner... and then bag up the evil stuff for the trick or treaters. I want to find some tracts or something, to put into the bags... but I'll pray about it too. I am NOT feeling led to hand out bibles to the adults, right now He just wants me toting around a few New Testaments and a complete Spanish Bible. Someone will enjoy it; it even has one of those "read your bible in a year" plans. |

Ron hates the sticky texture on his "eyes".
Me, I'd just fling it out there, but Ron tenderly bathes them in warm, not hot, water. I had a leftover cheddarburger for dinner. I also got a check from a family member: "For your ministry". Huh. I never saw it like that. I will say, I'm going to have fun at the Christian bookstore tomorrow. I will pare as much as possible out of my backpack so I can carry my Bibles home safely. I also want to get some tracts for the kids, as I mentioned. |

Yup, Virginia, California, and Texas! I'm glad you got a kick out of us. I notice I still have some "Yankee" in the way I say the words "A-yam-bu-lance" and "War-der" (water). Sharon, I saw ANOTHER Wisconsin plate. He came into Starbucks and I told him "You're going to LOVE our winters!" He avoided meeting our eyes, but I figured he was just overwhelmed by the city. All Wisconsin transplants are going to die laughing over what we call "cold", though (below 60). Today was interesting. I woke up - Ron was really groggy. We are supposed to have severe weather today. I had figured out where a new (to me) Christian bookstore was located. I thought it might be fun to investigate. Ron had made a trip to Starbucks. We went and got him a snack, and both of us drinks. Then he LEFT me and went home. I checked out the new store. Huh. As soon as I walked in I had a very strong, negative vibe. I looked around a little - in the City of Houston, they didn't have one Spanish tract. I was not impressed. Bible says to preach the Gospel to ALL the nations, not just the ones that speak English. So, I left without spending one red cent. Now, if you have ever seen me in MY Christian bookstore, you would be shocked. I am generally scraping dollars out of the bottom of my pocket and all. I had been craving some yarn. I went and I looked. It didn't CALL me. So I went to the bus stop. I did some Bible study until the bus came. I managed to fumble and drop my Bible, but God let me know after the infamous water bottle incident that He'd rather I have a well-loved, abused Bible that I'm reading, than something pretty collecting dust on a bookshelf. I stuffed it back into it's ziplock. Then I decided to hit a few more stores. The sky is looking more and more ominous. I looked at Favorite Dollar, and didn't spend a penny. I looked at the other craft store and walked out empty-handed. I realized at the craft store that the depression was emerging again, and I had to kick it hard. I went to a fast food place and got a bucket of diet soda and a bunless burger. I took a lithium (quick release) and felt better by the time I finished. Last but not least, I went to the Christian bookstore. I loaded up: 50 New Testaments and 20 whole Bibles for what Mom sent me. I got some tracts for trick-or-treat. I got some more 10 commandments bookmarks, and a couple of clearance books. I could barely push the cart, it was so heavy. Obviously, I was taking a cab. I had this feeling in my head the whole day "YOU'RE TAKING A CAB HOME." The downpour kind of clinched that for me, it passed but I still didn't want to deal with it. Very strong feeling. So, I called a cab. A nice, snazzy Town Car showed up. Yeee-haw! I had budgeted for it. I gave him a Bible , and told him the story of how my bipolar disorder had saved my dad from being shot. Have I shared that? When I was 12, I had a very severe depression with the bipolar disorder. It was so bad I didn't even know the day of the week. My Dad was a workaholic. He never left work unless it was an emergency. He did leave on Feb 16, because my doctor said he had to meet with Dad re: putting me in a hospital. After Dad left, Richard Farley showed up with his weapons and began shooting up my Dad's building. My father would have died if I hadn't been severely depressed. You can read the account of the shooting in the link. Because I was born with this illness, my father, who was not born-again, was saved. He didn't die, and he turned his life over to Jesus. Now he works for a Christian non-profit in California. I KNOW God can use me, just the way I am. He needs me imperfect so His glory can be shown. So, I told the cab driver this and gave him a Bible. Then I came home. ![]() |

I'm very pleased with myself.
I love to do up little candy bags for trick-or-treaters. This year, I found themed baggies. Some of them have a spiderweb design, others have jack-o-lanterns and haunted houses, and the last type has TRICK OR TREAT written all over the bag. Lets hear it for the dollar store. Ron was kind enough to buy 3 massive bags of candy. They get 1 each of Mars candy, Hershey candy, and 5 pieces of assorted gumballs and such. Plus a tract. I bagged it all up - one tract, 7 pieces of candy. Times 50. All done. I was only led to get 2 packages of tracs so I assume the rest of the kids are "fine". I'll finish that another day. Tomorrow we meet THE BOSS at work - just a review Ron says, but I always get twitchy. After work, we go to the bank - and then Burger King. Yum, yum. |

We seldom get trick-or-treaters out here in the country. This year we'll be working the kids party at the village hall, sponsored by the fire dept.
Your bags sound neat and fun. Thinking I'm up too early. Back to bed. TTYL. |

I had a nightmare about our review, but it went well. Our boss is cool. I like him a lot. Wow, I had 4 trips today and each trip could not have been more different than the one before. *A note to remember, I do tend to get "Mama Bear" when I feel someone is making unreasonable demands on my husband "Well, I'm parked over THERE, he has to walk." Oh, NO he doesn't! It absolutely enrages me when someone makes physical demands on my husband because THEY are lazy and/or foolish.** I awoke to the sound of pouring hammering rain. Ah, Houston. During a good storm, we can get a couple of inches an hour. I knew it would be TOUGH getting to work. Our first ride, was, as expected, late. Fortunately he was a veteran driver. I felt completely comfortable getting into the cab with him. We rode for about an hour, streets were flooded or on the verge, all the bayous were topping their banks, usual severe weather mayhem. He was completely professional. I had 3 bottles of Diet Dr and drank them all just getting to work. As soon as I got to work, I ran down the hall! I did the food order, but I forgot to check the coffee cups. Ack. I hope we don't run out. Our pickup from work - had a little trouble finding us (the driveway marked "Entrance" is NOT the correct one to get us!), but once we got on board she was a very freindly, classy, driver. Excellent obedience to traffic laws. We called in a compliment because she was obviously new. Remember the star? Our next pickup, from the bank, carries one note "Pickup on street side", because Ron CAN'T WALK ACROSS THE BANK. It's too far for him to walk, and that's what I told the driver when she showed up with the frowny face and the "I'm out THERE" attitude. "I guess you didn't read your notes, then" I snapped. "He can't walk that far. We'll meet you out on the street side." Such a good Christian! I never, ever, want you to think I'm some kind of holy saint. I was PISSED. You may have read my posts where I talk about the complications of diabetes and how I see them. Two words: Diabetic Foot. Yup, out in the middle of the aisle, exposed to the air (I guess for healing), but it looked really, really . I told Ron "Diabetic foot over there, hang as close to the lift as you can, don't want to cause more damage." It is very sad, because the young man really is only about my age (35) and he's on dialysis and in danger of losing that foot. It was in some kind of walking brace... anyway, he moved it right quick when he saw the big blind feet coming. UGH. Not a good ride to Burger King. She just didn't have the street smarts to get us from A to B. I thanked God we were riding with her in the nice dry air. [shudder] One of those times I wonder, "Am I getting out of here under my own power, or will they have to cut me out?" When we finally got to Burger King I thanked God we arrived intact. I don't think she's going to make it, working for Metrolift. She would make a GREAT employee at a senior adult day program, helping people. Driver? No. We were so late getting there - THANK YOU - our NEXT driver was there. She couldn't have been nicer. We got her some lunch. She loved it. However, she is a cell phone addict, and will not last long. I loved her, she was a doll, very cheerful, great attitude, helpful, listened to directions, good (literal) street smarts, but she did not hang up the phone! When they catch her, that is an instant termination. Too bad. However, our second driver of the day was great and followed all the rules so I look forward to seeing her again. I was feeling kind of queasy so I took an extra lithium at lunch. I have to take my shower tonight and let my hair dry before bed. We'll have a low in the low 50's, freezing in Houston terms. I can tell I made the right call on the lithium because I feel "better" - across the board, better, than I did before lunch. The lithium helped ensure an awesome nap. Bubba joined me. We talked to Chuck and have a fun outing planned tomorrow after work. Oh, and at the bank Ron handed me a folded bill and said "Because you're YOU! I want you to have some FUN money!" He's a keeper. ![]() |

Ugh, a little pukey. I managed to eat (half an apple and some cheese), got the lithium and anti-flying-saucer pill down the hatch.
I'm drinking some herbal tea to help... and I need to get to bed! |

Hi Heather. You guys had a busy day!!!
I saw on the news where you were getting heavy rains. Hard to be outside in that. We were supposed to get a mix of rain and snow tonight, but I think it's coming as plain rain. Maybe a mix later tomorrow evening. No problem, as long as me and mine are cozy at home. I was thinking tomorrow was Saturday but I guess it's not.....oh well, no reason. Just had it in my head. You're such a great care-giver!! How does Ron determine one bill from another when dealing with money? Just wondering. Going to work a crossword and go to bed early (9 p.m.). Hoping I sleep through the night. TTYT Hugs. |

Oh, tomorrow's Saturday.
I got my junk food today - major screwup this morning - our pickup was an hour late. We were fine, got to work right after the vendor who has a car, in fact. Not so funny, right before the delivery, their son, who is also in vending, was robbed. It was the kind of job where they had to have been watching him, and Mom was utterly freaked. Dad was quiet, but I could tell it bothered him too. So, Mom and Dad ran off to tend to their son (who was physically unharmed), who's about my age. Poor things had to depend on ME to check in their order. I did a good job on both orders, but I was glad Ron had us down for a long day - they had 2 pallets and a mag-liner (folding cart), full of food. I had to check and make sure each item was on a pallet, and that it had a good code (I once got an item that had been expired for 6 weeks! ). I enjoy what I do, but I was happy for the backup from their employee. I got our junkfood into the stockroom, loaded all the "NOW!" items onto MY mag-liner, and stocked it pretty much right off the pallet. I am pretty happy with the snack machines right now. I still need to do crackers, though... About then it's sandwich time. I got the sandwiches, pulled the bad codes out of the machine, tossed them, moved the older stuff up, stocked new stuff, and put up the sandwich boxes. Whenever I work with the boxes I have to laugh. Ron had been wanting to get those 18 gallon plastic boxes, but I kept telling him they wouldn't work. We got recycled cardboard boxes instead, they might say EGGS or Turkey Loaf but they had our sandwiches. A big hassle for me, and a big hassle for them. Not to mention rain really screwed things up. Ron finally got a couple of these boxes, but I kept denigrating the idea. After a week I was begging him to buy more. Funniest of all, when Brian bought the company a few years back (right around when I re-inducted), he liked the idea so much he bought a couple dozen more and uses them for deliveries exclusively! I admit it, he was right, and I tell him every time I do sandwiches. After sandwiches it was back to unloading the pallet. I got that rascal stripped down to the pallet and gave that to the other vendors (we are always helping each other out). Ron needed help, I gave it. We did the Dr Pepper order, up at 2 AM on Monday, too. Nice thing about a longer day, I don't have to chose between my duties and assisting him. Chuck showed up around 10, and we left about 10:30. Oh, and the head of maintanance showed up with the pest-control guy. How to lose the business in 30 seconds. "Why did you call him? They aren't coming from OUR stockroom! No! I won't let you in there!" I only told Ron and the other vendor my little joke. Seriously, I keep the stockroom so she can drop in anytime and still feel like getting a bag of our trademark potato chips. I like her a lot - and I would NOT want to piss her off! She really admires Ron. So, all done, and Ron and Chuck said "Why not bring home that case of Diet Dr Pepper Bottles?" Why not? So I did. That saves me a trip to Foodtown. I can safely say I would like to wait until the Spanish New Testaments come, before I go - because most of the employees speak Spanish. I have plenty of food . I actually have a good stash of Bibles. I have a little fun money (thank you Ron!) to spend tomorrow and it should be glorious. Anyway, sodas went into Chuck's truck. Thank you, truck. Thank you Chuck! We went and tried a new BBQ place. It was actually very good - a lot better than I expected. The last couple times we've gone out the food was not memorable. This place was good! I was a little goofy and forgot to check that Ron had the ribs, so I had to get back INTO line and re-order them. They didn't charge us, I guess he didn't hear it. Anyway, by that time Ron had figured out he was in love with the jalapeno sausage and creamed corn. I got him a pound of sausage - probably take him all weekend to eat that! I got a half pound each of turkey and pulled pork. The pulled pork LOOKED revolting, but it was delicious. Ron loved it, too, when I gave him a bite. Chuck really seemed to enjoy the food and the company. Then he took us home. It was about 1 - up for 11 hours at this point, I fell into bed like a down tree. Total complete drool-down. Oh, it was a good nap. Not so bright - waking up and getting into my diet soda. I'm still not hungry, but when I am I have turkey. I also have some yummy cooked meats in the freezer, frozen veggies, and a monster block of cheese in the fridge. I even did all my Bible study for the day - I broke it up into 3 bites. Morning, noon, night. I'm done except for night. See, I'm sneaky. No computer until I do the "noon" study. I even got out my "done me wrong" list and prayed for them - God has been pushing me to do that. It's not so hard now. I actually can work up a decent sense of pity for them as I pray. Cool. Anyway, just brainless fun. The other vendor's wife loved the scarf I made her so much she put it on in the stockroom! Nice thing about Red Heart Yarn - glorious colors, and easy care. Yeee-haw. |
