Tired today, need to get up at 2:15 tomorrow. I had a horrible nightmare about Replicators from the Stargate TV series. I guess that was the beer?
Anyway, I got up early, took my shower, got ready for work. When our ride came, the driver already had 2 clients on board. When you take out the back row for a wheelchair, that means seating for 4 clients, if they are all slim. Two were, two weren't! The driver was very obese and very tall. He had the driver's seat back so far my legs were ALREADY squeezed between the back of his seat, and the edge of mine. He kept leaning back, restlessly, trying to get his belly out from under the steering wheel. As he did, my legs were trapped under the kneecaps and forcibly squeezed. When I got out, my legs had BRUISES from this. I finally said (we rode around like this for nearly an hour), "Remember I'm behind you every time you lean back" What? I told him "When you lean back, you're cutting off circulation to my legs... I can barely breathe." He made a joke about I shouldn't have grown so tall???? I am amazed he has passed his mandatory health exams (insulin and blood pressure). I feel very sad for him, he's a walking heart attack. I felt bad basically telling him he was too fat to have anyone sit behind him but he was. Ron didn't believe me until I finally got out, and as HE tried to slide out the driver leaned back again and he got stuck. He yelped, the driver realized what happened, and he leaned forward again. Ugh. No suprise I almost had a panic attack from being so cramped. The cab was FILTHY too, when I got out I rubbed myself down (as soon as I got inside) with sanitizer, hands, arms and legs too. It's too hot to wear jeans, I wore capris. My legs were rubbing against that dirty fabric for over an hour and I just felt like I was crawling. Did I also mention he kept rummaging in his bag for snacks, and veering into other lanes as he did so? But like I told Ron when he complained about the long trip to work, "It sucks to be disabled. It would be great to hop in our car and drive but that won't happen in our lifetime. All we can do is suck it up and enjoy what we have, because it's a LONG walk to work!" I was so glad to finally get to work. I gave the guys at work their cheddar burgers. I think they were afraid of them, me being white and all. They probably doubt my ability to season properly. I gave the other guy at work his Father's Day card from the cats. He loved it. I'm glad I wasn't a butt and forgave him when he apologized. Everyone's entitled to a crappy day. I didn't get a chance to give out any Bibles, everyone already either owned one or had been given one by me! I tallied up our food order, ran it by Ron, and called it in. I helped him, snacks didn't need much but I'll get what I can tomorrow. Sales are just down. We went to Starbucks after work, lots of room in a nice clean cab! We had about half an hour exactly before our ride home (what Ron had wanted). We made plans for tomorrow, too. Ron wants to go to Walmart. He wants to go to a seafood place nearby. Chuck has the week off from work, so we will go to work, Walmart, home. Chuck will pick us up and we'll try the seafood. After Ron called in the trips, we came home. I went straight to bed, no stops, and slept 3 hours. I was pretty goofy at work, medication and mania fighting it out. Really severe heat (upper 90's) tends to make me manic, I've noticed. I'll stay up for another hour and a half, then go to bed.

Bedtime. I made myself a protein shake for the next couple days - pitcher is in the fridge. I want to eat up some of my protein powders before I go buying more. I have a lot of the harder-to-mix ones, but they're fine in the blender, so why not make a pitcher?
I'm actually off to pour some leftovers from my cup, back into the pitcher. I'm full! |

I just love reading about yours and Ron's day! And how you accept public transportation cuz........it just is! I hope you don't mind me looking you up every day. You inspire me to no end and I always go away smarter and happier.
You're a fine Christian witness and I'm glad to know you. Personal question: When it's hot and humid like it is now, do you think I'd do better with a protein shake rather than making meals? (I'm failing with the portion control thing.) I've kept almost 50 pounds off but not losing anything in months. Just wondering what your take on the drinks are. thanks. P.S. How's the Bubba doing?

Bub's is in the window meowing at birds... kind of bleating at them... Meh! meh!
Too hot to chase 'em. I'd go with a low carb protein shake or a cold meat, and nice crispy cold salad. I haven't seen any salad mix that I'd buy just yet, but if you see something nice grab it! A nice cold tuna or chicken salad (the kind with mayo) will make sure your ratios are good, without being too heavy. Today was pretty fun, even with getting up at 2:30 AM. We went to work, filled 'em up, went to Walmart. We got a new battery for Ron's watch and the jewelry lady came by. She knows I am doing Atkins and always tells me how proud she is of my weight loss. That's awesome. I got my vitamins (I have bloodwork coming due and I want to be as healthy as possible), and Ron got some stuff. We use the sit and shop style wheelchair, it's a manual (push type) wheelchair with a big basket on front. I had some trouble finding my charcoal chimney starter, but a nice lady from lawn and garden walked all the way across the store to help me. Chuck met us, and Ron wanted to go to Frenchy's. They are well known for chicken. Ron "can't" do chicken right now, but they put a 3 piece wing meal in with his pork chop (by accident) and he gobbled it. He was very surprised he could eat it. It's not 100% yet but it's better. Better is great! I wanted my stacker, so we got it, then we came home. Chuck left and I ate my stacker (and my value onion rings, 17 g carbs instead of the 37 I ate the other day!). I had gotten a big jug of sweet, sugarfree tea. I'm a happy clam. Oh, and I started my period, every 28 days! Anyway, I started it. Cramps were pretty horrible so I took a couple of tylenol. They make me more toxic - raise my lithium, but I was a little wound up anyway. I could stand a higher level. Starting to feel GOOFY. Naptime! ![]() |

I keep thinking about cookie dough thanks to that damn recall. Ugh. The other day at work, I watched someone eat my favorite pastry and I was drooling, even though I was full. AGH. Then I remind myself, I'm virtually at goal. I'm healthy. I'm in a size 10.
But I still have the taste of the icing in my head! Part of it is fatigue. I'm tired. I got up at 2:30. Why am I still up? Because I married a man with a head injury. While Ron and I had been "together" (and decided to count every day as married) for 11 years on the day we got married, I actually married a blind man with a head injury, who barely got out of the wheelchair to stand up and marry me. He got back in the wheelchair for the honeymoon! Anyway, he runs forgetful. He forgot his long white cane (it collapses into a tube about a foot long, and a little over an inch in diameter) in a cab. They brought it to him at work. A few days later, he forgot it again! I wasn't with him to remind him/check the seat. I'm thrilled Ron goes out on his own, even if it's "only" Starbucks. Not so thrilled he forgot it. It looked like he'd have to go downtown to Yellow Cab, in one of the WORST parts of Houston, to get his "stick". But a supervisor will drop it off tonight... sometime. I have to stay up and get it. Mr. Hit-by-a-truck is snoring away in the other room. I love him, so I'll stay up and get his stick. Happily, he figured out a memnonic to remind him to check his Cane/Cell/Keys. CCK - everytime he gets out. Hopefully it won't happen again. |

I need to get this out of my system or it will FESTER all day long. It's my day off, I'm healthy and I have some money in my pocket, so I refuse to let that happen.
Anyway, back in 1996 Ron was on a telephone dating line "They're so interesting, Heather, you wouldn't believe what this couple wants!" He started talking to someone. He worked about 12 hours a day, slept 8, hour to get ready for work, and he was spending 1-2 hours a night talking to this woman every night! I got pissed. I said something. He told me "Nothing was going to happen, just friends, blah blah." One night he tells me she got thrown out of her living situation. She worked as a live-in child care provider. The family was out of town. She drove the car without permission and wrecked it, then lied about it. They threw her out. "Heather, I'm going to go meet her tonight... she's going to sleep on the street! Her and her cat!" Long story short, Ron moves her in. We had a contract, you look for work, you pay rent, you clean up your own mess, etc. This woman, if she'd had HER way, would have had me waiting on her hand and foot. All she did is sleep and eat our food - against the contract. When we told her no more or you're out on the street, OH, OK, she went to the food bank. She was filthy, lazy, a liar, and rude. She also got something going with Ron. They each tried to out-use the other, sneaking behind my back. Really revolting when I think about it. Ron got drunk one night and told me ALL the details. It's a miracle I ever felt desire for him again. UGH. It was one of those "We can't stand each other but isn't it fun to get one over on HER" deals. I was unmedicated at the time, I wasn't easy, but I deserved a hell of a lot better than that. She used our computer and pissed someone off, and he force-downloaded a virus to our computer. We wrote a computer program so she couldn't use the computer anymore. She ran off with some guy she met on the internet in the middle of December, a minor no less. Then she got hooked up with some thug who impregnated her... etc. Anyway, times best forgotten. So, what do I find in my in-box the other day? A message from her... remember me, I gave you a cat... etc. She wanted me to make her a "friend" in Facebook! HELL NO! I told Ron about this, and my decision. OH, what was her last name Heather? I might want to talk to her, just to see how she's doing. ![]() I told him, no. This morning he says, I wish I were not writing this: "Oh, I know you can't be a foot, and she can't be a hand..." paraphrasing the Bible here, of all things, "But she was SUCH a bad girl, and you're not. I wish she lived with us, and I could turn her on and off. I'd keep her turned off when I didn't want her, and turn her on when I did. You're not like that now." ![]() If he didn't have head trauma, if I didn't REALLY understand that he probably has no clue why this would upset me, I'd... Well, that would be making threats. I am LIVID. Bad enough to call me a sexual dud. It's true.. the antidepressant makes it hard. Bad enough to remind me I used to be a "bad girl" for him back when we first got together... I've told him time and time again, STOP REMINDING ME OF IT, IT MAKES ME FEEL AWFUL. IT EMBARRASSES ME. He doesn't seem to care enough to remember. I've reminded him repeatedly... but then to compare me to that [loud cough] and then say you WISHED SHE LIVED HERE? She was so much BETTER than me? No, screwing Heather over is what made her so "hot" and "bad" - I'm not an idiot. If I'd been sitting there in the living room reading a book when this all went on they never would have done it. After that, I needed to think. I needed a shower, as well. Ron starts wailing about his old computer, I need to help him. I told him, I need to take a shower and my pills. I need to eat so I don't puke them up. Afterwards, I went in and helped him with the computer. All I said that could even be remotely contrued as judgemental or "mean" was when I asked him "How many times do you want to do this, just so we're clear? I have plans for today." We tried it a few times. I've reminded him repeatedly, back up your old files. Now he says he didn't. I did all I could do. It was pretty hard to sit there and help him with the computer, when all I wanted to do was take the keyboard and whack him over the head with it, again and again, for daring to compare me to that and then whining about our sex life. It's a 2 way street, that's all I say about his end of things. Thank you. I feel MUCH better. Last edited by Houston Heather; 06-20-2009 at 07:17 AM.. |

I didn't want you to think all day was bad.
1. I talked to Ron. I told him, pretend we're in old Egypt. Every woman you have "known" has been obliterated and her memory is erased. At least when you and I talk. 2. I explained I was not going to contact whats-her-name for him under any circumstances. Why go looking for trouble? 3. I also explained how I felt when he would spend the little amount of free time he had listening to everyone but me. 4. He got it. So, I took my cart and went out to have some fun. I got a hot dog and plenty of diet soda at the gas station, and went off to the sporting goods store. I found a cute pair of shorts. The last time I went there, even the size 20/XXL pants didn't fit. Today, I fit comfortably into their version of a 14, or a size L. You know, that's fine! I'm within a few inches of goal. If that means a "Large" or a 14 at that store, that's fine! I'm healthy, that's what matters! Taking that healthy attitude, I left the store. My cart died. The wheel kept falling off and I ended up using some very bad language and leaving it at a McDonald's with a sign that said "If you fix me, I'm yours". I went to Walmart, and found some AWESOME skorts for $12. The 10 wasn't happening, but the 12 fit great. I'm not getting fatter per my measurements, but different items are sized differently. Again, healthy attitude. I bought one in black and one in denim. I also got some sardines for something you'll hear about later. I'd told Ron about the cart, and he wanted me to go get another one. So I did, but not the same version. It was fine at first, but fell apart on my way home from Foodtown. ![]() AGH. So, after the new cart I met Ron at Starbucks. We arrived at the same time, the bus and the Metrolift. We had a good "visit" and he left. They rode him around for half an hour before taking him home. By that time, I was at Foodtown buying charcoal and cheese. I got hassled by a bum, he kept asking for money. I finally said "I TOLD YOU NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Everyone stared at us and he left. Ron's right... creeps do not want public scrutiny. If you are assertive and "Xichy" then they will leave you alone. I don't feel bad at all, and I would do it again. I've lived in some terrible neighborhoods, my husband worked in the worst part of San Francisco (Tenderloin) and I used to meet him all the time after work. If I didn't know how to protect myself, I'd have been eaten years ago! No, I don't have a dollar, and I woudln't give it to you to rot your liver anyway. I rode home, the new cart fell apart halfway through the subdivision, more bad language, a search for the receipt, and we're exchanging it on Monday. Oh, and I came home and started some ribs. Ron was quite the gentleman, nibbling on the carbonized ribs the other time, so I wanted to make him something mouthwatering! |

Good news, no more sun allergy, gradually I've built up a tolerance and I'm good 'till next year.
Bad news, sunburn! I don't hurt yet, just itchy. I'm a bright pink and will probably hurt some tomorrow... but I have aloe on hand. My face is OK, but my arms and knee are are pretty - vivid. Last year in Galveston I got a nasty burn on my cleavage. That really hurt. Hopefully not that bad this time. HEATHER WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN! Agh. It was supposed to be partly cloudy! Edit: I STILL HAD A GOOD DAY OFF! |

Not!
I love it! I'm taking it in for an exchange tomorrow. I'm willing to give it another shot before I demand Ron gets a refund (I have a credit card in his name, he said to use it). I tend to forget that I have limits! 1. I got upset. 2. Walking around in the sun cooking my brain. 3. More stress from stupid cart. Today I was very, unusually tired. I came home after work and went straight to bed, and woke up about an hour later... with a migraine. It wasn't as bad as it could have been but the pain's still a good 4 on a 1-10. I always ask myself, "What was I doing 24 hours before the pain hit?" and that's my answer. Walking around in the heat! It was a feels like of about 100, even though I stayed hydrated maybe that wasn't very smart. Shooting pains down into my neck, even. UGH. Good news,no family called to talk when the pain was bad. Also good news, Ron knows how to get to the Starbucks and get around IN the Starbucks, so he still got to have his fun trip without me. I managed to eat and get my meds onboard, but I'll be taking one of my phenergans tonight if the pain isn't better. It takes the pain some, and helps me sleep, even though technically it's "only" for nausea. Oh, I didn't burn. I have some Native American if you go back a few generations, and I truly believe a "pure 100% white" person doesn't exist, especially since both sides of my family come from the South! Anyway, my genetic heritage protected me. No pain, no peeling, just very pink yesterday, tan today... and a migraine! It's hard to imagine how many migraines I used to get before low carb...at least several a month. Now it's one every couple months, generally when I am under physical and mental stress. I think Jesus will understand why I skipped the Bible study today. I did yesterday's at the bus stop. On the way home from work, the driver was listening to Gospel music. I said "Here's something to go with your music!" and handed her a Bible. She thanked me. ![]() |

Thanks. Another driver today got a call that a freind's brother had died. He agreed to give his buddy a Bible for me.
Horrible migraine nightmares all night. Horrible migraine all night. Bloated, too. Blood sugar was OK at 88, but I felt like crap. Looked like it too - even the shower hurt my head. I took my phenergan and went to work; and got stood up by the donut man. Hardly anything to do, sales are dead. Exchanged my cart, got a better one. Went to Burger King - head still hurts but not as bad. I told Ron, this is one of THE MOST PERSISTENT I've had in a long time. I could somewhat function with the phenergan on board, but just really groggy and fuzzy. The pain was bad enough that I took half a phenergan with lunch, and I'm going to lie down again. |

Ugh. Ron had to run to work; he left a machine open.
On the way home, Ron offered the driver a can of soda. "Oh, I don't drink dark sodas, they'll ruin your kidneys!" No, the corn syrup in ANY soda will ruin your kidneys. "Dark" sodas, having phosphoric acid, are harder for dialysis patients to process, so they tell the driver that the dark sodas are bad; implying that the clear sodas aren't. No, they're all bad. It's the same faulty reasoning as "Dialysis patients can't eat much meat or salt, therefore protein and salt are bad for your kidneys". No, they're only bad when the kidneys are SHOT, from eating too much sugar and carbs! All sodas are bad, not just dark ones; unless they are diet. Meat and salt are fine for most people to consume to taste. Last edited by Houston Heather; 06-22-2009 at 07:12 PM.. |

Galveston sounds like a beautiful vacation spot! How long are you going for? From where I live, that would be a major vacation!!! How far is it from you? Do you have favorite sites to see while there?
Praying your headache is a thing of the past and not to return, EVER! Have a great day. Make God smile. |

Galveston is about an hour from downtown. Say, about an hour to get to downtown on Metrolift, and an hour to get to Galveston on Greyhound.
We plan to take the wheelchair, it'll be a lot of fun. It'll be a very DRY trip if I don't get some Diet Dr's! More later.. |

Just hanging inside today. Too hot and humid outside for me and my fat self.
My 'treat' beverage of choice is diet A&W root beer. With a spash of heavy cream, it tastes like a root beer float. I really like diet Dr. Pepper too though. When you take a short trip like Galveston, do you take low carb foods along? |

I can hardly wait to hear about Galveston as you two hit town for a holiday! I'm finally online and am catching up as best I can from a hospice bed in Poway (hills northeast of San Diego, CA) where I am adapting to living at a slow pace and to giving thanks to the folks who choose hospice as a career. Tough job.

I love your handle, Polly!
[screeching] ZEEEEER! I MISSED you! Sharon, I ALWAYS bring low-carb snacks. We sell excellent meat sticks at work. I love them. They're lowcarb and don't mess me up. I brought a big handful of them, and about a dozen individually wrapped cheese sticks. Since I was less than a block away from 3 grocery stores, and 2 blocks from a SuperWalmart, I felt pretty comfortable traveling pretty light. Besides, in my estimation, one purpose of the trip was spending money in Galveston and helping the economy. I did so. ![]() OK, photo time! This is the whole month album, scroll down for the new ones. Picasa Web Albums - Heather - June 2009 |

I'm still a little wound up so I'll post until I crash out.
So, we got up early Wednesday, good ride to Greyhound. Icky, icky bathroom. No TP - but someone left the door unlocked so SOMEONE made a raid! I was terrified I'd get caught but you should have seen the women when I walked in with 2 rolls of paper on my arm! I was a hero... for a moment. Then I got back in line with Ron and listened to "White trash theater" as a woman called a friend and told him "I yelled at your daughter last night, because she was texting me all kinds of -stool- about you. I saved them, if you don't believe me, but she said terrible things... I'm really mad at her..." Then it was trying to get a ride home from the tinytown bus station between here and Galveston. Then it was trying to get her kid up for school, then getting him a ride to school. "Yeah, he'll fail if he doesn't make it today, but it won't be your fault if he doesn't make it in to school." Anyway, we had a nice driver, she liked us. The wheelchair got stuffed underneath and extracted OK. It did acquire a dent but that's why we call it Ironsides. When Ron got back in his "good" wheelchair today he sighed "Oh, Softsides!" I had a 6 pack of diet dr bottles and I drank most of them in the Greyhound (20 ounce soda, from an unreliable vending machine, $2.25 - Foodtown, six half-liters, 3 liters total $2.49). We were there almost 2 hours but that's how you gotta play the game. Short ride to Galveston, almost fell over a cab when we arrived. He was HAPPY to get our business. The motel was busy, but that's why I only brought a backpack and a tote bag. We rolled off to the Waffle House, and then the grocery store, they called us and we checked in. Yay! Naptime! After our nap we went to Starbucks, and then the jetty. The fishing pier of last year's fun is gone. Hopefully they'll rebuild. Anyway, that's where I got the first batch of photos, Ron, the loaf of bread, and the seagulls. Then we went to Walmart and Ron bought me all the junk I collected, saying "We came to spend money, right?" We did, we want to help Galveston out and spending money on the island is the best way to do it! Ron bought me a wonderful 1 ounce purse sized Lysol. I love it. I used it several times. So, he paid for my spice tea, sunglasses that go over the regular glasses, etc. He also bought me berries and cream - important because I was faced with THIS: SUGAR WARNING SUGAR AHEAD! I had to wait next to this EVIL EVIL THING: Picasa Web Albums - Heather Why? Because Ron wanted Tortuga - Mexican seafood. They do a lot of enchilada, chicken, and shrimp. But shrimp gives me MIGRAINES! We discussed this in Walmart, so I got a sausage on a stick, less than $2. I took my lithium and ate that. We went to Tortuga, and Ron got the coconut shrimp. He said they were OK, but not what he remembered. Curse the Bactrim. He said, if you could get anything right now what would you get ('cause I sure wasn't signing up for carb-fest at Tortuga!)? I said I'd love some fried Calamari from Landry's. I got it to go, and it was a good thing. A bratty child was having a loud tantrum in the restaurant. They are a very expensive restaurant and I was happy to get my food to go. It tasted great in the hotel room. Anyway, they said "Wait over there" and over there was right next to the dessert tray! AGGGGH. I told myself "You have berries and cream back in the room" Thank God. I ate 3 bowls of berries and cream, almost ate myself sick on them (blackberries!), but I did not eat the bad things. We went to bed. The next morning, Thursday, Ron said very clearly, I want to loaf around. OK. I said let's get breakfast and then I'll bring you back. You can hang out while I go walking/exploring. He loved it. That's what we did. I walked over 40 blocks, exploring, buying fancy picture frames, a keychain, and such (I spent over $60, including the things I got for Ron). I got a free tote bag, even. I had to go to 3 different shaved ice places to get the blue coconut sugarfree ice treat. It was worth it, though. It was a feels like of about 100 so I enjoyed it! I also bought and drank buckets of Diet Dr. I actually had Diet Rootbeer, too. So, I went back to the hotel, sweaty and covered in sand and salt and sunscreen. Shower, nap. Wake up, Starbucks. Grocery store, more bread. Seagulls. Photos. Golden Corral for dinner, because Ron thought they sounded good. I felt like we got a good meal for our money, and Ron was delighted with the foods I brought him. I did eat about 2/3 cup of bread pudding for dessert, and my fasting blood sugar was one point below diabetic this morning! WHOA. No sugar in MY future. I figured as much, but confirmation was a shock. Anyway, I got off lucky, no headache either, and we went back to the room. Didn't sleep great either night, but we had a blast. Both of us want to do it again, soon. He loved the size of the motel room and the price ($50 a night). I was a good economical date, happy with my Diet Dr's from the grocery store, Waffle House Omlettes ($5.35 each), and the sausage on a stick. Today I got a little buggo but didn't show it, I just ate a couple of meat sticks and took one of my "little" lithiums! Now that the house is nice and cool, I plan to lie down. After we got back to Houston, we went to work, and filled 'em up. The machines didn't miss us. One or two people did and I told them aliens abducted us and left us in Galveston. They liked that. After work, a straight trip home. Bubba greeted us as we got out of the vehicle, and he didn't bring home anything either. Ron left the a/c off, so it was pretty miserable, but it's great now. Anyway, nap or bedtime. |

Heather, it looks like you and Ron had a wonderful, relaxing time in Galveston!! What a nice treat for two hard workers like you.
Great pictures too! I've never been there but looks like a nice place to visit. My parents went there a couple of times and really, really liked it! Thank your aunt for posting for you. Welcome back ![]() |
