Some photos from my neighborhood, within a 2 block area of my home:
That roof is covered in black plastic. This house is right across the street from me! The water damage was bad enough that they're living in a hotel. ![]() |

Another view; you can see how one house after another was damaged:

Thanks Penny!
All the heavy lifting at work and pushing Ron in the wheelchair's my workout now! I got smart, on my last day off I cooked a bunch of beef & onions sauteed things. I froze them. I took one out and ate it for lunch. ![]() Now I'm going to finish that afghan for Mrs. Ron - the donut guy's wife. ![]() |

Thank you Sandy!
My weight and measurements were about the same this morning but I had some good news regardless. Today at work, BUSY! I was running around, lifting cases, moving things into the fridge, stocking big heavy things, you name it. The repairman came and FINALLY fixed my 2 dead snack machines. He also got the coffee machine. Coffee-less Postal Workers can be scary. I told Ron I needed 4 hours. I did. I used every single minute. He was a good boy and mostly stayed in the wheelchair. I did all the standing/lifting/heavy work. I got smart and brought in some food I'd like to eat - snacks and stuff. I didn't even have time to eat at work but I had an Atkins bar while waiting on our ride. We just came straight home. Today, I noticed my new jeans were kind of loose (the blue jeans), especially in the butt and crotch. I kept yanking them up. I'm used to a medium rise but this was unusual. My big test on if I need new jeans, can I pull them off without unbuttoning and unzipping them? I did a little test in the stockroom and they came off! Oops! I put them back on (without having to unbutton and unzip the already fastened jeans) and decided to go to Walmart. That was fast! I hardly got these a month ago! Ron said he'll buy me a pair (he was quite happy to hear they're only $16) on Saturday. He needs more peanut butter anyway. Someone ate it all. I hope the "plain" 12's fit me now. These are "eased fit" which is more like 12 and a half. One of the many, many things I did today was call in our order for tomorrow. We will be getting sandwiches and junk food tomorrow. I have to get up at 2:45. I'm nicely tired from my medication so I should sleep OK. I just need to do a load of laundry, fix some dinner, and take out the trash. Ron needs me, brb. OK, I found the thing he was looking for and started the laundry. Oh, Bubba vomited in my bed after I left for work. What a nice present when I was ready for my nap! It's a good thing I love him! Frosty says hi, he was a precious baby. I'm going to eat a salad with some chicken on top and then do some crocheting! I'm not depressed today and I "aim" to keep it that way! ![]()

Today we had to raise prices at work. We need to do it, our wholesale cost on the candy bars is 50 cents and we're selling then for 75. The quarter barely pays our sales tax, and not my labor to put it in the machine. So everything basically went up a nickel in the snack machines.
Pastries, chips, cookies, candy, peanuts, crackers, etc. Also sodas went up a nickel. Sodas are our big money-maker. The nice thing, we won't have to keep putting nickels into the change banks; if it's 75 cents (which it is) that means they can just stick in 3 quarters, or a dollar, and get the soda. It will always have lots of quarters in the change bank. No more filling it up, again and again with nickels! Nice. It's pretty easy to program the snack machines. I go into programming mode and tell it either #1 is 65 cents, #2 is 70 cents, etc until I'm done (that's my snack #2, 3, and 4), or I can tell it all of these (1-20) are 65 cents, and 20-30 are 70 cents (snack 1). When we got to the sodas I decided why should I wait around on the other vendor to do it? They always try to tell me, I never get it, and I get the "Are you really that stupid?" look. I do very well with visual, and there's a manual printed inside the machine. It took me a minute to figure it out, but then I was cooking with gas! Bam, bam! I got two machines. The other 2 are wierd, old machines with no discernable way to change prices. Dr Pepper's going to come fix them - even the other vendor couldn't figure them out! Speaking of the other vendor, I had another one of those wonderful FAS moments today. They kept asking me for a check at the WORST possible moments, like when I had a delivery waiting outside. I figure, we've never "screwed" these guys, we ALWAYS pay them, we never bounce a check, I'll get it to you before we leave. Don't worry! We're good for it. Then when I was ready to write the stupid check I couldn't find a pen. I told him "I'll be happy to write it but I can't find a pen. Could I borrow a pen please?" They couldn't find a pen either so I laughed and said "I can't write it in blood! I'll see if Ron has a pen." Apparently I had a nasty tone to my voice and the other guy was really, really pissed. Like, furious. I had Ron go in and talk to him (not wanting to make things worse) and Ron said basically, her brain is fried, she doesn't know she does it and it drives me nuts too! I also apologized and he forgave me, but I know it's because I've got a messed up brain! Agh! More than once people have taken great exception to a tone of voice when I thought I was being pleasant. Very frustrating to make mistakes like that, mistakes that I can't seem to prevent. Another mistake: I packed a lunch, and left it at home. AGH! Thank God I had my slimfast low carbs. I drank 2, ate a peanut butter cup (literally, a plastic cup filled with peanut butter), and also ate a bag of peanuts. I took a dose of lithium. I was a little lightheaded but Ron has mentioned I am a little overly chatty - a sign I am slightly up. We had so much going on we had to put our ride on hold, then wait outside for an hour to get picked up. Ron got hungry so I whipped out the baggie of cheerios I'd stuck in my bag for him. I'd asked him if he wanted some milk while we were at work and he said no, then changed his mind when we were outside. 'Most every driver really likes us, and Ron in particular. It's really tough when we see a driver we haven't seen in a few months. It always starts with "What are you doing in a wheelchair?" and ends with "Oh, God, that's terrible!" I hate being reminded he wasn't always like this. They want to know when he'll get better, and we have to tell them we don't know. Then they carry on a little more about how awful it is. It is, and I hate hearing it. I would never, ever, try to stop a driver from caring about Ron but the whole shock and "Oh, so terrible" reactions are kind of wearing. Yes, I know it sucks. I know it blows. I don't even know what I want them to do. The nice ones make sure I'm taking care of myself but I don't hear much of that. I'm not whining, really. I just wish I could get it all over with at once rather than hearing it a dozen times a week. That's what's wearing on me. We have tomorrow off. Yay! Ron's giving me an advance (he wants to pay me Tuesday instead of Monday, which is another off day), so I should have some fun. My black jeans fit good today, but the blue ones are still too loose. Off in the Salvation Army Pile you go. I'll get another pair of jeans tomorrow. I'm getting tired of all the rose-pink bedding in the bedroom so I got out the pumpkin sheets. I'm washing them now, and then I'll get my yellow and red comforter cover and put it on my comforter - out in the garage I think. Then it'll be red-gold-yellow-orange. Very nice and warm. Oh, I've been wanting a nice wool blanket someone else made for at least a couple years, but they're "too expensive". I'd been considering a navy colored one for about $30. I wasn't committed to it yet but if someone gave me a $500 gift card I'd probably get it. I love bright colors - I always wear a brightly colored T-shirt every day. I found some really pretty red wool blankets for $100. So pretty but too much money! I kept looking around. Gray. Army green. Taupe (gack!). Red. Price $6.99. With shipping, $14. SOLD! I had $30 in my internet fun moeny account, a check from Mom and Dad for my birthday. Yay! Yay! Yay! That made my whole week. If I like it, I'll buy another and put it in the living room (the front of the house has a combo den/kitchen/eating area/living room and then we have the 3 separate bedrooms, laundry room, and then the bathroom). Fun! It'll go great in the bedroom now with all the warm fall colors. I know I have to hand-wash it. I have some Eucelan somewhere which is a really good wool wash. Still, I don't mind. It's not a bad thing to have around in the disaster kit, either. ![]() Ron wants music downloads, so I'm off to help! Everyone |

I got up this morning, dreading the scale.
One seventy-nine and a half! Whoo-hoo! Ron was kind of depressed but I'm still happy. I went to Walmart and tried on jeans. The last time I went, about a month ago I think , only the "eased fit" 12's fit. My blue "eased fits" were falling off the other day so I figured I might be able to fit into a size 12 in the blue jeans. Interesting fact, black jeans are cut tighter than blue jeans. That's why blue jeans in a size can fit, where the black ones don't. My black ones still fit great, I wore them today with a purple t-shirt and a purple bandana stuck in a belt loop. I love purple, thank God it's "back" in fashion. My Lexapro (antidepressant) can cause excessive sweating so it's very easy to yank out the bandana, mop up, and stick it back on my belt. I find it mildly embarrassing. Anyway... I picked out 3 pairs of jeans. One in a black, one in a blue, and one in a lighter blue, "classic fit". No eased fits! All "regular". The dark blue ones fit best. They are 99% cotton, 1% spandex. I love natural fibers so I ended up buying them. The black ones fit great, but I already have black jeans. I want a little variety. Besides, they had like 15% polyester. The light blue ones didn't button. I had about an inch gap. It was so awesome, though, to put on pair after pair and they fit great! I pranced around in front of the mirror, admiring the large 12 price tag blazoned on my thigh. I also got a $5 pair of leggings to wear under a cute, but short, gray dress I got a while back. I want to feel comfortable when I wear it. I can also wear them as long underwear, under jeans, if it gets really cold this year. Ron was freezing on his commute to work and wore a pair of my leggings under his slacks one day, thinking they were long underwear. They worked great but I didn't want them back. Last year I got a really cute quilted nylon jacket for about $15. It was hot pink, a 2X and fit snugly. They are getting the vests in, and a burnt-orange colored jacket. Hopefully more colors by next week. I tried on the XL and it was a very roomy fit. I tried on the L and it was a little snug. I'll probably get the XL because I like a bigger jacket anyway. I got the cat food, totally forgot my slimfast lowcarbs, a little bit of candy for trick or treaters (if I get a little every time I go I won't scream over the total), and some cute yarn to make a hat for my 1 yo nephew. I'm thinking to make him a little "jester" hat in this: ![]() I'm in a "hat" mood and I want to make that hat. My brother will love it. He is definitely a doting daddy . Hats also travel well in my bag. I work them on a circular needle. I spent hours of time and probably $30 making Ron a "gourmet" ski mask with no eye holes, but he never wears it. Oh well, I made it. It was fun. The bedroom looks so cute in the reds/yellow/oranges. I'm glad I changed things up. I got a couple of duvets at Ikea on clearance, one in blues and one in this. It makes me happy. I threw the afghan I made myself (the only one) in fall colors on top and . Lousy movies on the sci-fi channel today. Bummer. I got kind of toxic today from my lithium, time to reduce my dose to 3 tablets a day for a while. I tend to get very foggy, lightheaded, feel like I'm not in my body, realize I'm toxic, and notice all the other symptoms. Hey, the stuff works. You couldn't pay me to go off my pills. It's easy to fix, 3 pills a day for a while. If I start going up, take 4. My doctor is fine with this, and I see him on the 23rd. I saw a guy at Walmart who was manic. It was awful to watch. He kept talking and talking and moving around and you couldn't have paid him to stop talking. I was dying to give him a lithium tablet but he probably would have "gone off". Ugh. And I'm sure I looked just like that when I was sick, which is why I take my pills. Not to mention, I have "mixed" espisodes (see manic link, and scroll down), which are truly horrible. Anyway, I'm going to go eat, take a nap, take ONE lithium tablet, watch some TV, and work in my knitting/crocheting. I may finish that afghan for the donut man's wife. We're going in on Monday so I could give it to him, even though he won't be there for our delivery. He delivers to the other people once a week, we're twice a month. We'll see what I feel like doing. I try not to force myself to work on a project if I'm not feeling interested. It's supposed to be fun. The kitchen's a mess but I cleaned the bathroom and did most of my laundry. Yay. I can hardly wait to see what I weigh tomorrow! ![]() |

I finished most of the afghan, just working on my edging now. It looks great. I'll take a picture or two before I give it away.
I called Mom and Dad and answered them honestly when they asked how I was doing - feeling a little strain. I cooked up 6 cube steaks and ate one. Tasty. I washed most of the laundry and caught up on the dishes. When I hung up my "No dryer" bedspread on the shower curtain rod, it fell down. The shower curtain was disgusting anyway so I threw out the old one, put on the new one, and mounted it. Hopefully it holds. It's sure nice having 2 days off in a row, and no trips tomorrow. I don't have to get up early if I don't feel like it. If I sleep too late, I actually have a nightmare where I can't find my lithium. That's my body's way of telling me "Wake up and take your pills!". I also need to spray for fire ants. They're getting in the house and biting me. Ouch. |

I woke up today, FIFTY POUNDS lighter than when I started!
Whooo-hooo! I had a cube steak for breakfast to celebrate. I really think if I try to eat more early in the day I'll keep losing like this. Right now, I'm starting to get a little hungry so I'll have a Slimfast low-carb. 177.5. So. Awesome! |

Overall, today was a great day. I ate good, nourishing food, had a great nap with Bubba, and did all my chores.
The worst thing that happened to me was a vertigo attack. My ears get clogged and I get the attacks. Ugh. I feel like the whole room is spinning! I had to hold my nose and swallow frantically to clear my ears while waiting on the decongestant to work! Queasy! Dizzy! Hot! After I felt better I was so ready to take my nap. Now I'm just doing some laundry. When I get hungry I'll have some sauteed beef (I figure since I'm donating blood as often as possible I ought to be eating more red meat), broccoli, and some sugar snap peas. I may have a pudding cup but I don't know yet. I want to go up to about 30 or so carbs for the day. Oh, reminds me, I need to put Fitday back into my signature. More later. |

The hurricane trash pickup people came by. Poor guys are working on Sunday night! I opened up the door and hollered "Thank you!". They were shocked, but very happy to be appreciated.
I ate a great dinner and even had some no sugar added tapioca for dessert! All this for only 35 net carbs! I feel so spoiled! I'm going to stick it at 35 this week, and see how it goes. I won't eat the sugarfree puddings every day until I see how they work. I'd probably get sick of them every day. Eventually I plan to add in some no sugar added applesauce cups, and some fruit cups (canned in juice) - they have about 10 carbs each. I feel so spoiled eating 35 carbs a day. ![]() |

This morning did not start off well. I retained 4 pound's worth of water! Ick! Lots of running around, and I forgot Ron's snack at home. He did not feel loved. ACK. The wrapper had come off a chili cheese dog (we sell them in the cold food vendors) so he ate one. I'm shocked. He said it "Wasn't too bad". He had a carton of milk, too. I asked him to give me 4 hours at work so he did. I had plenty of time to do everything. Yay! I brought myself a frozen omlette, sugar snap peas, and cheese sticks for my snack. I was hungry and ate all of it. I'm actually getting hungry in the morning which I think is an excellent thing. Then we went to Walmart, after waiting outside for an hour. I was kind of lightheaded. I still am. I may be about to whoosh. At Walmart, I went straight to McDonalds and got a couple of chicken breasts (dinner) and a no-bun hamburger. The manager mentioned my weight loss, and I thanked him for helping me out (by selling items ala carte). He liked that. They had the winter coats! Yes! I got one in a cute red. I got my Slimfast low-carbs (one for home, one for work), another jar of natural PB - chunky, and some baby carrots. 1/2 cup only has 6 grams of carbs. I ate some. I ate loads of veggies today and 6 T of peanut butter, and I'm still under 30 grams of carbs! I need to take my nap so I'm off. It was a wild and crazy ride home but we got home an hour late. ![]() |

I took my nap and I'm still tired.
I'm not hungry but I need to eat so I can take my nightime pills. Let's all pray for a good number on the scale tomorrow. The 4 pound thing really freaked me out. |

Half pound gain!
I think I'm retaining water and all that fiber is still hanging around...if you know what I mean. My body'll figure it out. I ate the last of Jar #1 of peanut butter and I won't open the next one until after I start my period - about 2 weeks. That ought to help. Today was another baaaad Tuesday. Ugh. Ron only planned on 2 hours at work - NOT ENOUGH TIME! We had a down vending machine, I had to help a repairman, I had to get a delivery, Ron knocked over a soda and I had to mop it up, I had to escort repairman in and out of our area, and I had to get the milk delivery. Our ride to work? LATE! The other client on board was developmentally disabled. The workshop he attends is on a very busy street. When we got there, it wasn't open yet. She was 15 minutes late, and we had to sit and wait because they can't leave the poor guy all alone on a busy street. AGGGH. Then the driver wanted to do the whole "Why is Ron in a wheelchair now" routine. I'm starting a comeback of "I caught him with another woman" which I used for a while after the accident. It was really funny to see them take me seriously for a few seconds. One driver today asked Ron if "It was worth it?" and Ron said yes. Of course I eventually tell them but I want to make up cards or something. It gets depressing to say "He took an antibiotic in August and it really screwed him up. He has nerve disease now. It hurts to walk, and we don't know when/if he'll get better." Wednesday is our day off but not this week - Luis, our repairman, can come fix the food machine. It makes about $1,000 a month so we GOTTA get it fixed. Not to mention it's full of food and we can't rotate it to take the food out. I know what it is - a lockbar solenoid. I'm an engineer's daughter. He can come in tomorrow so we have to be there. Not bad, though, another 2 hour day (Ack!). Then we just come home. We had bad trips today (a total of about 3 hours waiting on 3 pickups) because Ron's using a wheelchair AND it rained. People cannot drive in the rain. Our pickup from work was so late we missed our trip home (it was work-bank-home). The bank doesn't have a public bathroom (I can't blame them, really) and if we're waiting for any period of time that's not good. I asked Ron if we could move it over to the mall (across a parking lot). He agreed. It also meant I got something besides a bag of peanuts for lunch. I have lost consistently eating 1-3 ounces of nuts every day so I'm keeping them. I got paid at the bank, we rolled over to the mall, and through the mall. Purple is one of my favorite colors EVER. I love purple. Purple is "in" this year. I saw cute purple accessories everywhere. I can't remember the last time I bought a belt or something. I have a cute little A-line dress I'm going to wear over leggings and I wanted a belt. Ron was very irritable (I'm not responsible for his moods). He said no shopping, just go to the bathroom, get something to eat, and we'd call to get picked up. Well, our pickup was so late I had PLENTY of time to go back to that store. I got a cute purple belt with cut-out hearts and a big heart shaped sparkly buckle, 2 cute scarves in my other favorite colors (hot pink, and turquoise), and a chain belt with purple accents. All for $20. The most awesome thing about the belt is the fact that I'm already on the second-to-last hole. I also got a calzone and ate the insides (I figured out how to do it in fitday) and I also got some cooked blackened chicken. No breading or anything. Yummy. I ate them and admired my new toys. Then lots of waiting with an increasingly cranky husband. I am not responsible for his moods. I don't think he slept well last night. Anyway, I was kind of stressed out by the time the driver came, but he was a nice guy and helped lighten my mood. We came home and Ron said he was cold - it was hot! He had me push the thermostat above 90 and I did it. I don't always notice the temperature anyway. I really wonder about his thyroid. I had a great, long nap with 2 sweet kitties. Mommy loves them, yes I do. Ron just woke up and said "I wanted it like this? Never do that again!" I officially absolved him. Interesting highlights of the day: 1. Taking out the milk bottle at the mall, and it's nice and frosty for Ron. I freeze about an inch in the bottle before adding cold milk and putting it in the lunch bag. 2. A guy hitting on me at the loading dock. I've seen him many times and I honestly thought he needed help because he kept looking at me. I told him I was sorry I couldn't help him, but I'm married to the blind vendor. I forget what he said but the gist of it was I was interested in you. Huh. Good thing I mentioned the married part. 3. Ron playing his tunes as we went to the bank, all 3 of us (Ron, me, driver) singing along as he tears down the highway. 4. The guy wearing the fancy suit who held the door open for us at the bank. It's really hard to get a wheelchair through a door without help. I'm not bad at it but I always appreciate a helping hand! Oh, and a pimple on my chin. What am I, 12? Ugh. Tomorrow will be better. ![]() |

I had 1/4 of an apple and some cheddar cheese for dessert. I'm interested to see how things work out on the scale tomorrow.

181. But....
I am retaining water in my "chest" - big time, that's about 2 pounds there. And I'm a little gassy so I think the rest of the gain is, um, there. I already "moved" one pound. I'm sorry, I hope you're not too disgusted. I'm eating a healthy amount of carbs - about 30 a day. I refuse to believe the 4 pounds came from upping my carbs by 8 or so grams. It would also help to get rid of the aspartame and caffiene. I may focus on that next. Tomorrow I go to the grocery store and get some more healthy, low glycemic veggies. Ron just told me to get more Jiffy Cornbread mix. I made him some muffins just now and he loved them. Good. Cornbread + milk is a complete protein. He hardly eats anything so it's a huge deal to find him something that works. Today wasn't too bad at work, except for the part where we had to spend $200 on the repair. Ouch! But the food machine is up and running and selling. Good. Tomorrow's an off day. I want to go to a grocery store and get some new veggies, I'm not stressing over the number on the scale. I feel good, my measurements are consistent with PMS. My moods are good. I'm going to focus on eating smart, drinking my water, and staying active. The rest will come with time. I've heard too many horror stories in the main lobby "I stayed on Induction too long". |

I'm battling a major depression/desperation/helplessness today.
Ron woke up a LOT worse. He felt so bad he didn't even want a 1 hour trip to the grocery store. I told him that was fine, the grocery store was on the bus route. "But how will you carry it home?" I told him I'd take my wheeled cart. It looks a lot like this: ![]() And it can hold up to 50 pounds or so. I got my cart, decided to take my large zipped "cold bag" - it's insulated and keeps cold food cold - I got mine at Sam's club. If you shop there you've seen them. I stuck it in my cart, added a backpack, a couple of sodas, and off I went. I have to walk about a mile to the bus stop. I took my thrift store "Polartec" jacket. It was nice and toasty. I got to the bus stop and waited about 10 minutes. The bus came and the driver was very nice. He let down the step so I could get on and off easily. I told him he'd spoil me. ![]() I went to the Dollar store first. I wanted to get a gift bag for the afghan. If I had to, I'd give it in a Walmart bag but that's kind of icky. I found a gorgous metallic sparkly gift bag - the afghan fits great (I didn't bring it but I guessed and was right). I also got a 50 cent "Thinking of You" card. ![]() Off I went to the grocery store. It is a cheaper grocery store, cheaper than Walmart, that appeals to people on a tight budget. I loaded up my cart for $50. Not bad! I got 2 pounds of bulk sausage, a bag of salad mix, some Jonagold apples, a "tuna" - cactus fruit, various jars of spices, a half gallon of organic milk, 18 eggs, 3 boxes of Jiffy Cornbread mix, Honey Nut Cheerios, muffin trays, you get the idea. I also got Ron a 24 count case of his favorite bottled water (Deja Blue, with the sport top). When he finishes the water, I refill them with milk and a little bit of splenda. He loves them. I got some evil hydrogenated crunchy peanut butter during a weak moment. I had a lot of fun shopping. I really do need to get out and do fun things, but it's so hard to know Ron's suffering. He called the neurologist begging for answers today, and also told his primary care doctor that he thinks he still has the bladder infection. She wants him to come in tomorrow. Ron hates going to the doctor. So do I. I loaded up my cart and decided since it was almost 11, I love a certain BBQ place. It has wonderful links. I called Ron and asked if he wanted anything. he did, but it tasted awful and I ended up feeding it to the cat. The cat sure loves me. I got a half pound of links. I rolled my cart over to the bus stop and rode home. Some creep piled his remodeling debris on the sidewalk and I had to walk in the street. Nice! When I got home I ate some salad, some broccoli, and some links. I think I'll take the rest of the links with us tomorrow. It is so hard to watch him suffer! I'm going to take a nap. |

Slept about 3 hours, woke up, still tired.
I have the horrible feeling Ron's going to end up in the hospital tomorrow. I really, really, hope I'm wrong. I went a little nuts with the peanut butter. I gave it to Ron to put in his closet. It's a good place for it. While at the grocery store earlier, I saw some big 25 pound buckets of lard. I picked one up and got the attention of a stocker. "I've lost 2 of these since March!" ![]() |
