Dear Krysta,

Wow, it is so great to have you back here.

I'll share with you that I had 3 miscarriages. 1 before DD13, one in between DSs and one 2years ago. The last one I had, I ended up with a D and C because my body wasn't doing what it should on its own. Please call your Doc to make sure all is well with you. Sometimes a simple vaginal ultrasound is all that is necessary to make a determination.

You are a LC inspiration friend! Thanks for journaling and sharing your menus.

Hugs!

I would call my doctor about the bleeding. I know you can bleed for a while afterwards but I would just check in with them and let them know. They can maybe check to see if your uterus is returning to normal and your cervix is closing. That's what the cramping is all about. Take care of yourself and rest. Your body has been through a lot and you have to remind yourself of that. Your iron may be low as well due to all the bleeding. Take your vitamins. If you go into the doctor's office have them check it for you. I will say a prayer for you.

Ok, so I had written this huge long post on Saturday and then our internet went down and i lost it. I didn't feel like retyping anything and then our friends came down from Raleigh, so that was the end of that.

I have been slowly going up all week...yesterday I was 140.6 for the second day in a row, and today I was fluctuating between 140.8 and 141.0. Up until this morning I have been strictly Induction, but I doubt the gain has anything to do with my food. I have been bleeding more and more and last night I had pretty noticable cramps. I have had cramps this whole time, but they have been more like a mild ache that comes and goes. Last night and today they are very noticeable and a lot more strong, and I have been really bloated, as well. So I have an appointment with the Dr this afternoon.

I decided to get out of ketosis before I go, if I can, because if he draws blood (which I'm sure he will) I don't want him finding ketones and thinking I have spent this whole time in Ketosis and thats why I had the miscarriage. So this morning I had oatmeal w/SF peaches, splenda, CC, butter, cream, protein powder and apple pie spice. That was only like 25 carbs, and I'm trying to get the extra carbs only with healthy, non-refined sugar/flour etc. carbs, so I had a clementine, thinking that would put me up over 50 carbs (which is usually where I get out of ketosis) but then I looked up Clementines and they are only like 7 carbs! So I still have to eat at least 20 carbs before I go. I hope the ketones get all out of my system quickly! I'm going to drink a lot of water to flush them out, too. Then today I will just go easy on the fat and go back to the regular plan tomorrow. Maybe I'm dumb, but I dont want tobe explaining my LC diet to my OBGYN when I already know perfectly well I'm not supposed to be in ketosis if I'm going to get pregnant. But I've already got my plan and I dont feel like explaining it to him, especially if hes not a LC person, you know? I mean, my Endo was, but thats to be expected, she studies the hormones. An OBGYN...I doubt they are as up on diets and what they do to the hormones, you know?

Anyway, I'm sure the weight gain is bloating, hormones and/or water retention from my body going through whatever it is going through. I just hope the Dr. can give me some answers. Its been 3 weeks now and I just don't think this is normal. But since when has my medical history been normal? Sigh. I'll let you all know what's up when I get back.

Hey Krysta,

Praying that everything goes well with you today at the doctors. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but DH and I are TTC as well. I started Atkins again, in hopes to shed some weight before that time comes.

Is it ok for me to follow Induction while TTC?

I hope everything goes well with the gyno today. What you're going through does not sound normal.

I'm sure you haven't put on fat, but your hormones are really out of whack, thus the gain. Don't worry about getting off plan for a day or two. You need to get the medical care first before you worry about taking off weight.

Will check back later.

Well, things are not good. I found out yesterday that I am having an ectopic pregnancy. So technically I am still pregnant, but the Dr. can't do anything until he officially gets the numbers back from my blood test to confirm it, but I know in my gut that is what it is. I am very concerned because there is a possibility that it could rupture my tube, or that part or all of my tube will have to be removed, so I am on pins and needles waiting for the Dr. to call back. I cried all day yesterday...it was like finding out that I was losing the baby all over again, but worse, because of the fear of what could happen to my future chances if things go bad. I am kicking myself for not going in a week ago...I suspected something was wrong then, but I thought I would give it a couple more days to see if it stopped by itself. Now I just hope I didnt wait too long. I am just taking it easy until the Dr. calls, but I am praying that he calls soon.

Well, nothing new to report yet, except that oddly, the bleeding has lessened quite a bit. I don't know if that is good or bad I am waiting for the Dr. to call today. I just want to hurry up and go in and get whatever has to happen over with so that I can move on and get over it, you know? I'll let you know what's going on when I know more. Thanks for all the concern, prayers and hugs...I really need them

Well, I got a call from the Dr. office saying he wanted me to come in for another blood test, because, I am assuming, my hcg levels were too low to positively confirm that it's ectopic. I guess he wants to see if it is going up, staying the same, or going down. So i went in this morning for the test and they said I should get the results tomorrow I hope it's tomorrow, because I can't take much more of this not knowing! It's all I can think about all day. So hopfully tomorrow I will get some more news. Until then, I'm just waiting nervously

I don't really understand what you mean about the hcg levels, Krysta. I know that hcg is a hormone that can be detected in the urine when you are pregnant, but what does that have to do with determining whether the pregnancy was ectopic or not? Just my ignorance, I guess.

Praying for peace for you today.

Sue, I guess if the hcg is 1600 or above, that means the baby is still growing, but obviously not in my uterus, because he did an ultrasound of my uterus and there was nothing in it. If it is 1500 or less, I guess that is not a high enough amount of the hcg for it to still be growing at this point, so he would know that it is a miscarriage rather than an ectopic. So if the numbers go DOWN from here, it means it was just a regular miscarriage and that the hormone is just being really slow in leaving my body. If it goes UP from here, it means that the baby is still in there somewhere and growing. So we are hoping it goes way DOWN.

Hello! I came across your journal....hope thats okay. In march of 2004 I had a horrible miscarraige, the hardest thing I have ever been through....I too bled for weeks, they had to do a second d&c because there was still "tissue" inside, so it may be worth calling your doctor. (I have since had two pregnancies since then, does not make the loss any easier, but it helps in its own way)

O.K., I get it. When I had my miscarriage, I think it was just normal operating procedure to to a D & C right away. I felt a little violated because I, of course, was devastated by the miscarriage, but would sometimes hope that maybe they were wrong, but then remember that I'd had a D & C. I decided that I wouldn't have one again if I had another miscarriage. Maybe irrational feelings at the time, but that's how I felt.

Lots of love

well, finally, after an entire week, I have some good news, I guess. My hcg from my second test came back at 34, which was down from the previous test, so obviously it is NOT ectopic, just a regular miscarriage that seems to be taking its sweet time resolving itself. I guess anything under 5 is considered negative, so I have to go in again next week to have another test to make sure it keeps going down until it is under 5. I guess your body won't even prepare to ovulate again until after you are in the negative range again.
I am just SO grateful that things are "normal" and that there is nothing to worry about as far as my body. I'm a little mad at my Dr. for even scaring me about the ectopic without knowing for sure, but at the same time, I guess he had to warn me so that if it WAS ectopic and I started having pains, I wou ld know what it was and get help for it, but still...this whole week was spent worying for nothing. Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and thoughts and love. I really appreciate it.
And now I can get back on plan, too, now that I am not stressed totally out of my mind and know that it is ok as far as my body goes. But I think I might only stay on Induction long enough to get into ketosis and then go to OWL. I want to be eating enough variety of foods that my body can be its healthiest for the next little while, you know?

Oh Krysta, I am so glad to hear you are getting your health back.

You know, when I had a miscarriage in between my boys, I remember being so sad and empty. DH and I were so happy and scared when I got pregnant with DS2 only 1 month after the mis. Almost everyday I look at Timothy and think, "if I didn't have a miscarriage, I wouldn't have Tim." I don't know if my words can help in anyway...I know everyone's experiences are different...BUT, I believe that God's plan is at work. It can be so hard to be patient and open to it, or to even recognize it, but I know in my heart He has great blessings prepared for you and Will.

Hugs

What Jaimie said!

After having a miscarriage, then having three beautiful children, I have felt so blessed. I know that miscarriages are normal and most ladies have had one even if they didn't know it, but the babies that come afterward really eases that pain.
