Diana,

Offering some hugs and encouragement for a wonderful, on plan, blessed Thursday!

Forgive me if I should know this...have you read Atkins 72? It is a very clean plan that seems to be very effective.

I think you are right to just focus on eating simple things and letting the other factors fade away...like the weight you will drop

Love you

Sorry about your melt down, Diana. I think things like this happen out of frustration when we don't see a lot of success with what we're doing; then outside stresses can really trigger a cheat. I've had too many diet melt-downs to count.

Why was it so easy when we first started? Maybe because we just followed the book and didn't have all the wonderful recipes or tweaks that can set us off course?

You'll find your way, dear friend.

Hi Jaimie,
I actually do have the book and have read it, skimmed through it and that's about it. I did read the DANDR book, that's what I was doing orginally when I lost. I will have re-read A72 again, just to re-fresh my memory.
I laugh when I see alot others say for the newbies to read the book because they tweak lc and can't lose.
I guess I laugh cuz I see myself!!

You're right Sue, that was a built up of everything and normally I've controlled my eating by just thinking how miserable I'll be if I eat something I shouldn't. That always gets me to not go there.

I also say with me, I get hyped in the beginning because my sister was doing it with me and it was easy then.
It's still easy, but I make it hard on myself.

Thanks Ladies!!!

I hope you don't mind if I post this here, but this is from last year when I was doing the A72 challenge on the challenge board. Here's what I would post at the beginning of each month or week (don't remember).

This is a challenge for anyone who is interested in following Dr. Atkins original diet published in 1972. It is a great way to get into ketosis fast, cut the cravings and lose a little faster.

Dr. Atkins says that the more you eat the first week, the more you lose (page 141 of my book), so eat up people!

Eat as much as you want of the following items, but remember to count full carbs. This is not a net carb diet: I think it ends up being around 8-10 total carbs the first week.

Protein
Any kind of meat in any quantities (but avoid any meat with fillers like hot dogs, packaged cold cuts, etc.)
Fish (except oysters, clams, mussels, scallops and pickled fish)
eggs

Salads
Two small green salads a day (each less than one cupful, loosely packed) made with leafy greens, celery or cukes and radishes. Dressings with finegar, oil, dry spices, herbs, grated cheeese or anchovies.

Cheese
Four ounces a day of any hard, aged cheese. No cream cheese or cheese spreads.

Fats
Butter, oils, mayonnaise, fats that have no carbs

Juice
Juice of one lemon or lime

Heavy Cream
Four teaspoons a day

Drinks
Water, club soda, beef or chicken broth, bouillon, sugar-free diet sodas, coffee/tea

1. Don't count calories
2. Eat as much of the allowed foods as you need to avoid hunger
3. Don't eat when not hungry
4. Don't feel you must finish everything on your plate just because it's there.
5. Drink as much water or caloric-free beverages as thirst requires. Not necessary to force fluids
6. Freguent small meals are preferable.
7. If weakness results from rapid weight loss, you may need salt.
8. Every day take a high-strength miltivitimin.
9. Read the labels on "low-calorie" drinks, syrups, desserts. Only those with no carb content are allowed.

After the first week, you can add 5 carbs per week, but not more than that. He doesn't list an order for what to add in first. He says to add in what you are missing most, whether it be cream, salad, veggies, etc...

Vegetables to add in:
Asparagus
Avocado
Bamboo Shoots
Beam Sprouts
Beet Greens
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Chard
Chinese Cabbage
Eggplant
Kale
Kohlrabi
Mushrooms
Okra
Onions
Peppers
Pumpkin
Rhubarb
Sauerkraut
Snow peas
Spinach
String Beans
Summer Squash
Tomatoes
Turnips
Water Chestnuts
Wax Beans
Zucchini Squash

Salad Material
Celery
Chicory
Chinese Cabbage
Chives
Cukes
Endive
Escarole
Fennel
Lettuce
Olives
Onions
Pickles
Parsley
Peppers
Radishes
Scallions
Watercress

Salad Garnishes
Crumbled Crisp Bacon
Fried Pork Rinds
Grated Cheese
Minced hard boiled eggs
Sour cream
Minced Sauteed Mushrooms

Appetizers or snacks
Pork rinds
cheese
chicken wings
chicken drumsticks
meatballs (no fillers)
Pate
sardines
cocktail sausages
smoked salmon

Hi Jaimie!

Yep, I'm off today. I'm going to be doing some baking for others today.

I"m doing good, I had a high carb breakfast this morning, don't know why, but it could be my mood.
All I know is I need to get a grip on this and not go backwards. I'll eat lc the rest of the day and from here on out!!

I hope you all have a great day too!!!

Love Ya!

Hi Sweet Diana,

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words in my journal. It is a talk that was long overdue with DH, and as much as I dreaded it, I am glad we had it and now can move ahead.

Hope you had a great weekend

Love you

Well, it's another saga to my lc woe!
I did not eat on plan all weekend, well actually here and there. The only consolation was I did gain 4lbs, because I thouht it was going to be more than that.

Anyway, I had got my nails done on Friday, I went to a person who I went to high school with and hadn't seen her since I got my nails done by her about 2 years ago.
Well, when she saw me, she said I looked great! She was so amazed at how much I had changed and lost. I was really happy about that, which I needed to give me that extra boost I was lacking.

So as I was reading A72 book, I saw some things in it that I never saw before.
For instance, the dr said that if we are resistant that we should not be watcing our calorie. So if it's harder for us to lose, then we should just be eating and not worry about how many calories we are consuming and to eat around 3000 cals. But if we can lose weight easy, he said we should eat around 1400 or so.

I thought that was interesting and it makes sense because we should be eating on this plan and not starving ourselves.

I remember and I think I mentioned this, that I was eating and didn't count anything but carbs and didn't even worry about how much I ate.

That's what I'm going to do. And like I said in previous posts here, I'm eating clean and not worry about quantity, but about the carbs and going up the ladder correctly. I know this plan works, it's just that I didn't do it right.

My menu:
B- 1 fatty hamburger patty, 3 slices thin cut bacon, 1 egg fried in butter, coffee w/hc
L- cheeseburger patty w/mayo wrapped in lots of lettuce.
D- 3 chicken drumsticks, salad w/ cucumbers
Water- 100oz
Ex- none

Hi Jaime!
You're so welcome!!!! I know it will all work out!!!

I love A72 and wish I could eat that way. I know that when I ate plenty, did not worry about calories, just carbs, it totally killed my hunger and I lost. I didn't lose a ton every week, but more than I did on A92, and without the cravings.

Eat up, friend.

Hi!

I'm going good today! I'm down 3lbs this morning, I'm sure it's water, but I'm still happy!!
I ate mostly fat and protein with little carbs and felt very satisfied. So I'll do the same thing again and see what happens. I also wasn't shy with the food, I'm not worried about cals bmr or anything like that. I'm just focusing on the carbs.

Here's my menu:
B- 1 egg fried in butter, 3 thin slices of bacon, 1 hamburger patty
L- 2 hb eggs w/mayo and chili sauce wrapped in lettuce leaves, pork rinds
D- 2 chicken drumsticks, dipped in mayo and chili sauce
S- hamburger patty, if hungry
Water- 100oz
Ex- none yet

That's my day, I'm going to do the best I can!!

TTYL!!

That's the way to do it, Diana. Just worry about the carbs and EAT. Yummy, your menu looks good.

So what if it's water weight; it just feels good to be down three whole pounds, doens't it?

Hello!!!

I'm doing great, Thank you Sue, and Jaimie!!

I know I would have had more of a loss today, but yesterday I did get into the cream cheese clouds I had made and I know in induction cream cheese is not allowed. But boy were they good!!

I did manage to lose a 1/2 lb so I'll take that. I'll be doing good today and no getting into the CCC!!

Here's my menu:
B- 1 egg fried in butter, hamburger patty with cheddar cheese
L- maybe tuna w/mayo, celery, and pork rinds.
D- fish w/ a mayo sauce of some kind and a small lettuce salad.
S- hamburger patty if hungry
Water- 100oz
Ex- none yet

That's it! I've been feeling pretty good with my eating, physically! I remember scarfing down almost a whole bag of pork rinds in a day and still lost. I don't know why I ever changed the way I ate from before. But I'm doing A72 by the book and next week I will add one more thing for the carb ladder and eat that for a week to see how it affects me.

It sure is helping me to read the book again, I feel like I'm doing it for the first time!!

Love ya!!

Well, my body is funny! I lose when I eat alot and I lost when I eat a little! I weighed myself today and I'm now down to 204!!

I didn't eat a lot yesterday and to be honest my lunch consisted of mixed nuts. Not an induction food for this week, but in the circumstance I was in, that's what I did. Dinner was a quick hamburger patty with cheddar cheese, and a few sausage slices.

Yesterday was also a hectic day. My dad had knee surgery to repair something that was torn, not really sure what it was, but I picked him up afterwards, dropped him and my mom off at home, and not more than 10 minutes they call me up saying that his knee was bleeding.

I rushed over there and took him to the ER where he did get in right away. But 4 hours later, he was able to go home.

He's a tough cookie, that's for sure!!

Thank God, Thank God, he's doing fine!!!
