Dear Diana,
Thanks for feeling able to share your frustrations. I know you are always the "cheer leader" but everyone needs a boost from time to time, so here we are, boosting you up and encouraging you on. LC works. It may be on it's own schedule, but it works. The exercise will help your metabolism even if the scale is a big, fat LIAR! Plus, I think when the peri-menopause crud starts to happen, the exercise is key. Your family is so blessed by you and your generous heart! So are we ![]() Hugs |

Hi Diana,
1 - I agree with Livywilltim-mom: the scale IS a big fat liar! Don't believe the numbers on the scale or even measurements (can be inaccurate). Just like our age, it's JUST numbers! Go by how your clothes, underwear & bra fit - period! Try not to weigh every day either as it is SO DISCOURAGING! There are so many factors that contribute to weight; don't be a slave to the scale! 2 - What type of Exercise are you doing? Whatever it is, keep it up, because it IS key and highly beneficial. 3 - If you've been lowcarbing for an entire year, you may want to think about kick-starting your metabolism w/ carb & calorie cycling (see the articles below). I got 'em from Watch-Me-Shrink (Twyla) - here's some other stuff she told me: Twyla told that too much "steady state" Cardio (ie Level 3 on the Elliptical every day as I was doing) can be a waste of time, at least fat-burning wise. Because just like anything else (low cal; low fat; low carb WOE) our super smart bodies learn to adapt pretty quickly and then "hang on" to the fat we're trying to lose! So with Cardio, the more we do, the more we HAVE to do, in order to keep burning fat in the most efficient manner. Consequently, we must keep increasing our Cardio time in order to trick our bodies into releasing fat calories! Whereas with Strength Training, the muscle we build burns more calories JUST SITTING THERE! That's why they say to spend more time Strength Training than on lots of steady-state Cardio. I use 3; 5; 8; 10 lbs free weights (ONLY) to strengthen, tone & define my upper body muscles (no bulk). I do Cory Everson's Get Hard Arms Video 3 x's a week. It's a great, fast workout! HIIT = High Intensity Interval (Cardio) Training is the exception. Apparantly it keeps things "shook up" so that our bodies can't get too comfortable and learn to adapt/compensate and burn more fat/calories. ![]() More later (I'm at work) but with regard to your posted menu, IMHO, you really need to add some veggies to your menu! Learning to incorporate veggie carbs along with the protein & fat & grain carbs is a huge part of healthy & permanent weight loss. And Diana – you’re already halfway to your weight-loss goals!! B- 2 sausage muffins, 2 oopsie rolls, coffee w/hc, splenda packet, sf davinci l- 2 tuna muffins - consider adding Linda's Every Day Side Salad d- steak - consider making this a Steak Salad or Taco Salad Water 6-8 tall glasses (or more) per day I start each day (on empty stomach before coffee) w/ a tall glass of warm water flavored w/ approx 2 TBSP fresh lemon juice + 1000mg of L-Carnitine (+ I take 500mg more each evening for total of 1500mg daily) 45 min on elliptical= 2 miles (do HIIT 2 x's per week and steady state 2 x's per week) Add Upper Body Strength Training w/ 3 lb and 5 lb free weights 2 x's per week. (strength training will build/tone muscle & muscle burns calories, even at rest!) Atkins promotes the use of L-carnitine: 1000-1500mg daily to aid weight loss. He says L-carnitine can help break up a weight loss logjam (stall) AND help nutritionally deficient overweight people get into lipolysis and ketosis. Also, he suggests Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) - says he often prescribes to people over 40, usually in a dose of 100 mg per day. Says it works in collaboration with L-carnitine (& chromium) to mobilize fat. PS: are you using any organic virgin coconut oil? XO, HB Last edited by hummingbird11 : 04-29-2008 at 12:15 PM. |

My husband bought mine last year as a because gift. I used it at that time, then grew weary of it.
Then just last week I got back on it. I would do it for about 20 minutes when I first got it because that was all I could do. But last week, I started doing the resistance program where it start at a low resistance then it goes up higher and higher, then back down. Today I did the 5k program but could only do 2 miles, since I didn't have time to complete it. At the later part of last week, I switched to Pilates, that lasts about 35 to 40 min. I usually do this in the morning. It's too hard for me at night because I don't like getting sweaty and having to take another shower at night. I know lazy!! ![]() |

Nah, I don't think that's lazy - I think it's smart! I've been trying to motivate myself to work-out in the AM for about 6 weeks! Heck, make that 6 months! But I'm such a terrible procrastinator that I end up doing it late, or worse, not at all.
But over the past couple of weeks I've gotten MUCH BETTER and I'm getting a workout of some kind in almost every day. I am shooting for cardio 4 x's a week; strength training 3 x's a week; callanetics 3 x's a week and daily dog romps. (I have 4 dogs! 3 shelties and 1 border collie!) Like you, I started at 20 min on the elliptical, then up to 25, then 30. But on HIIT days - still just 20 min. Today was my first time to do HIIT and I could really feel the difference! Much better workout and it's supposed to burn a lot more calories and fat too - yay! Your resistance program sounds good - much better than steady state for sure! Pilates is super good for you! I have the Rapid Results Pilates DVD and I love it even tho it kicks my arse for an entire week every time I do it! ![]() Oh and what's a "because gift"? Good Morning Lovely Ladies!
(Of course you can Jen!!! I have no problem with anyone coming in a conversation here. I woke up draggin this morning, and I think it's because of my pity party yesterday that caused me to fire up them high carb foods! Well I didn't eat alot, but enough to get my body in shock! I had some doritos and a sweet and salty bar, a pack of cheese crackers hash browns, and hmm, let me see what else, oh yeah a sf ice cream bar. Well that was it! I feel like poop today and I'm just sick of this hormonal thing. Eh! I guess I did eat alot!! I can't wait to get to the dr and see what he's going to do for me. I didn't get to exercise this morning, so I WILL have to do it tonight. No if, ands or big butts! But my pants feel loser today, which is strange. DH hugged me before he left for work and said, you feel smaller. I told him, don't tell me what I want to hear. In a nice tone, mind you! LOL, and he say's no really, beause I always measure when I hug you. I thought, okay! He measures me!! So I'm not going to feel sorry for myself, I'm just going to go through my day and I'll be eating clean of course. But I'm sorry Ladies, I'm going to be doing Stillmans. I know you're going to object to it, but I really need to shed these last few lbs. Can I just do this and go back to Atkins? Please!!! I love you Ladies and I really treasure your thoughts and comments, because I know you care, but I just need to do this for me and get past this, other wise I'll just be miserable. I appreciate your support while I do this. Thank You!!! I love You!!! ![]() Here's my menu: B- 3 hb eggs, sip of coffee! Yep I threw it out. S- 2 hb eggs L- steak D- hamburger patties Tons of water!! Elliptical, hopefully the HIIT!!! Talk to you all soon!!! ![]() Last edited by Determinedtolose : 04-30-2008 at 08:52 AM. |

Ancient Hispanic secret, hmmm? LOL!!
I am a morning person normally. I was made as a teen to wake up early and not waste the day, I have been doing that ever since. I wake up usually every morning around 4 am or 5 depending. If I sleep in, it's only till 6 am. But I am just that way. Another thing is I don't have any children, so it's a little different for me. I so appreciate those who do have children and I still am hoping one day I will. That's it! It's me just hearing my dads voice in my head telling me to wake up. LOL, just kidding! I wake up on my own now!! |

I know I can do this on Stillmans. I got down to 202 and then got a little cocky and drank some wine and I have been at 205 ever since. Red wine and Prosecco are my weakness! I really enjoy drinking both, and when I got down to 202, I thought I was safe. Not!! I drank some red wine and didn't think about anything else. I did notice that when I drank the wine, my skin felt really dry. My lips, hands, face and feet. It was strange! |

Good morning Diana.
I had a bad day yesterday also. Hey, we're here to support you, not be critical of how you choose to lose. And, you have found that you lose more on Stillmans, so don't be ashamed of that. ![]() I'm tempted to do that myself. I have lots of chicken and cottage cheese around here and a good day of stillmans might help me out. But, I'm not promising anything. Glad you're feeling better. ![]() Oh, and that was very sweet of your DH this morning. Looser pants and the comment by DH do show that you are losing. ![]()

HI LADIES! I'M THINKING OF SWITCHING TO THIS:
per Tom Venuto of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle & Fit over 40: If you do choose to go on a low carb regimen, there is a much better and healthier way to do it than to simply keep a strict cap on carbs all the time. A far more effective approach is the BURN THE FAT method of "Carb Cycling." I would recommend you stay on your low carbs for 3 days and then take a "re-feed" or "carb up" day every 4th day which contains more carbs and more calories. The 4th day |
