11/14/2007; 200
So far so good Last night I did not eat dinner; I ate one scrambled egg and 3 strips of turkey bacon but other than that.............I'm on point. My mom made a comment yesterday about my fingers and neck looking slimmer. I must admit they are smaller as well as my tummy. It's rare that I bloat because I don't have the monthly visitor often (maybe three times in a year) so what I see is usually what it is (flabby tummy); but I have also seen a difference in my midsection. My waist has always been defined but it's more defined now. Deb, Yep, I'm in the valley of Two-tervill now (200). Oh thanks, but I am no poster child. As a matter of fact and surprisingly, I've been on point with my eating (South Beach menu) and as usual I can tell the difference in my energy and belly but I know a fall is on the way and I hate predicting my fall but this is pre meditated ......................a hazelnut cappucino. And the funniest thing is once I take a few sips of it, I'm fine. I may not even drink the whole cup so there you have it.....................changed your mind yet Deb ? My question afterwards is this; "Was it really worth it?" Then I get mad with myself . Thanks Deb, I no longer want that cappucino . I'll drink coffee and call it quits. Girl, I need to sit on your couch more often. The check is in the mail for this session .Minor change: Instead of scrambled eggs this morning I ate 2 boiled eggs along with my bacon and coffee. I've also drank 10 oz of water already. I love turkey bacon.

Hey Lady
Thanks for everything! I think I'm back all the way this time in terms of my journal. Looks like you've been making it happen over here. I'm truely impressed by the menu planning. It looks great! Are you still exercising? I was in the gym yesterday but I'm averaging once a week right now. I think I saw some dust on my T-Tapp video yesterday too I think another week and I'll be back spending time with Ms. Theresa Tapp.Keep up the good work over here! |

Mstamika,
I'm so glad you came to visit my journal. I've missed you. Now that I know you are working through, I feel better. I am still praying for and with you. Just know this if you need to take a break from journaling we totally understand; but know we are here for you as you've been for us. You stuck with us through our losses and gains. You've always had inspiring and motivational insights for us all whether you did well that particular week or not; you've never decided that because someone lost and you did not that you would just drop us; never that!! Thanks for being real. Glad to "see" you back. Hey, that's right, your name is TAMIKA !! Tamika, yes I am doing at least 45 minutes to one hour of biking per night. Your one day a week is better than no days a week. I need to blow the dust off of my DVDs as well. I just know that you'll be T-Tapping in no time at all. Lulu Belle, The "guts" I found to finally stick with my plan was the "gut" that was hanging over my pants; my flabby belly. Sticking to what is written is a task within itself. As for the party, bring it on to Charleston.............Hmmmmmmm? Lowcarbfriends Summer 2008 sounds great!!! |

How do you like the southbeach plan?
Have you heard about the candida diet? Someone lost 29 pounds in two weeks. The basic framework seems similar to lowcarbing. |

Not Hungry
2nd day at 200
B: 1 egg & 2 slices of turkey bacon S: Sugar free jello L: Tomato & tuna salad S: Tomato & cucumber slices D: Stir fry chicken & vegs S: Sugar free jello I made just a few changes yesterday evening and today: Yesterday evening when I got home I was not hungry so I ate 1 bolied egg and 4 strips of bacon and 10oz of water. I was not hungry again today!!!! ![]() I had no snack after breakfast today. I did not eat all of my lunch but I did eat half of it. For my snack after lunch I had a spicy beef stick. OK, here goes................Confession Time I went to the canteen with a friend of mine to buy a Dasani Lemon Water (I mix my fruit punch crystal light in it and boy is it good!) and a bag of pistachios for tomorrow's snack. I said "Oh, Sharon look at this walnut brownie.". She said, "Hmmmm, that looks good, I wonder if it's dry?". And as usual I had a sassy answer for her. I came back with "It won't be once it gets in your mouth." So of course she asked if I would share it with her and out of habit I said yes. When we got back in the department she split the brownie and I looked right over it. My son (Marqui) called from Charlotte with very good news and guess what I did? Right, I reached for the 1/2 brownie and ate the dickens out of it. I popped a piece off of it and realized that it was not good but I kept eating it. So there you have it. I am so disappointed with myself. It was no one's fault but mine. And I'm not only disappointed because I ate it but because............check out the title; I was not hungry! Oh, by the way, on yesterday I posted that I do not have a monthly visitor, it's more like a quarterly visitor. Well, not even 1 hour after posting that, guess what? Yep, there was a knock at the door. I never saw it coming; no signs, no warnings. Well anyway with all of that going on, I still weighed in at the posted weight. I'm not one to air my dirty laundry (no pun intended) but I just thought I would put that out there. Jan, I too enjoyed our conversation last night . As I said, it was so nice to put a voice with the name. Congrats on the loss!!!!!! I did get the information and will act on it Deb, Ok, Ok, I will change my profile.................TOMORROW; how's that? Just don't put me back on the couch. I laughed when I read Tamika's journal. I said, Oh-oh, Look out Tamika, Deb is going to put you on the couch. You won't see it coming. . Hopefully, my weight will be the same considering my issue (for a lack of a better word). Deviled egg and cheesecake pudding........sounds great. Bring it on to Charleston.Shirl, I'm in wonderland alright, just not in "ONEDERLAND". I'm not physically in the 190's yet, but I receive it. It's spoken and I receive it! thanks, girlie. I may get my daughter to take a few pics and post them. I love the Southbeach eating plan. I've only heard about the candida diet but I don't now how it works. I'm going to research it. Tamika, You are a blessing; Get ready, there's an "And Suddenly" coming your way !!! You'll never know how much YOU contributed to my losing weight. Your will and determination was soooooooo.....undescribable. And if you think this is a bunch of bull just take some time and read your own journal. I have found that not only has other's journals blessed me, my own journal has blessed me and that is why I have no problem with my long postin in my journal because it's MY journal and everyone else is just visiting. Think about it; a journal is personal, this journal just happens to be in cyberspace and others are allowed to voice their opinion because they have access and also because the internet is a place of PUBLIC ACCESSS!!! So I have treated it as such and post what I think is appropriate. One thing is true I'm glad for my lowcarbfriends visiting!!!! ![]() |

Thanks Lulu Belle. I've got a looooong way to go. I'm trying. I really am. I'm no poster child (as you can see from today's post) but I'm going to reach my goal. Don't want no pitty party and really don't mind being corrected if need be. Just tired of the weight but talking and not doing is getting so old to me, I try not to talk about it and just be about it; so I just do it and keep going.
I forgot to post this one thing: I have soooooo much energy!!! ![]() |

Another day, another day and I'm at....................WORK!
This is my weekend off but I'm working overtime because we are really working with a skeleton crew; but it's all good. I'll be here today (11/17) and tomorrow (11/18) 12-hour shifts and won't be off again until Thursday; Thanksgiving Day (my mom's b-day ) and then back to work again that Friday, Saturday and Sunday and finally off that Monday and Tuesday (I think) . At any rate, I thank God for my job and the ability to pick up as much overtime as needed considering all the projects I have coming up within the next few months. I have not been hungry for the last 3-4 days but I have eaten mostly out of need (outside of my slip ups) and not want and I guess that is good in some cases but it's a task (believe it or not) forcing myself to eat. Thursday 11/15/07 (evening) When I got home I did not eat as planned. I was not hungry so I just ate a boiled egg and 2 strips of bacon along with 10 oz of water and called it a night. I was kind of down because my intentions were to go to Bible Study after work but I got off late due to a late intubation at work .11/16/07 200 I think I can go ahead and change my profile now (DEB ).I was surprised when my weight had not moved especially since I have this unwanted visitor but I weighed in exactly the same as 11/15 ("dry, naked and all" ). I woke with a headache to kill!! And of course because I don't have them that often I had only one more pill. I took that and within 10 minutes I was GOOD!! But that was my last pill.....and that was not good. Anyway, I ate awful on this day. Because this was my only day off for the next 5 days, SO and I decided that we would spend the greater part of the day together. I was not worried about my headache messing the day up because once I pop that pill for my migraines........it's a wrap. I'm like a new woman. The plan was for us to meet at the movie theater after he had lunch with a potential client. I got up early that morning (headache and all), drank an orange swirl protein shake, went to my nail appointment, picked up my migraine prescription (Bupap), ran some errands, checked in at the office and then met him at the movie theater to see American Gangsta. Very good movie!! Needless to say I ate maybe 1 cup of EXTRA buttered popcorn (did not want) and a box of chocolate covered raisins (did not want OR need) and drank the crystal light water that I took with me. Yes, I took my own drink and not only did I take my own drink, I took mozarella cheese strings with me to eat instead of popcorn. So why did I eat the popcorn? Maybe, because it was there. And to top things off I did not want the popcorn, chocolate covered raisins or even the mozarella strings. I just was not hungry. And all the butter in the popcorn made me nauseated . Although it was not much popcorn that I ate, I should not have eaten it. For dinner I ate a Jr. cheeseburger from Bessinger's without the bread while my SO pigged out on barbecue hash, rice, ribs, onion rings, coleslaw and banana pudding. Of course it's hard for him to separate business with a complete day of fun so as we were sitting at my desk at my house going over some paperwork, I politely reached over and rubbed his stomach and asked the "crystal belly" what the future holds because that belly is pertuding (and it's no mystery why). And to think there is a 20- pound wager on the table FOR ME!!!! I think there may be one on the table for him in the very near future.Today; 11/17/07 201 Same ole' story. I'm not hungry and yet another day of waking up with a headache!! Before coming to work I drank a protein shake, took my medication and ate 3 strips of turkey bacon (I love them) and once I got to work (after rounds with the docs), I ate 1 of the 5 turkey wraps I brought to work today (of course I gave my coworker one). His eating style is low fat so he enjoyed the wrap because each wrap consists of turkey breast, boston lettuce, a cucumber slice, a strip of red pepper, scallion onion and cilantro mayo. So he really enjoyed it; I must admit, they are fresh and delicious. For lunch I will eat the remaining 3 wraps along with water and dinner is up in the air. I'm in a cooking mood so I may make chili meatloaf tonight. My weekly menu is up and my plans were to prepare next week's menu but should I not feel hungry, I may make next week a shake week (except for Thursday). Today is not my regular tour day and this particular crew is the eating crew. I work with them on a regular basis because when I pick up overtime, I'm with them. They literally cook complete meals while at work (croc pots, pressure cookers, table top grills, etc.) so when I walked through the unit during rounds the first thing they asked was what's for lunch? I mean it was 8:00 this morning and lunch was on their minds already. I can not judge because they only asked because they are accustomed to me taking lunch orders the minute I got in to work . I would literally think about a meal while eating the meal before. I just thought that was funny. B: Protein shake, 3 strips of turkey bacon S: 1 turkey wrap L: 3 turkey wraps S: mozarella cheese string D: Chilli meatloaf S: Protein shake |

This Week's Observations And Needed Changes; Accountability for myself
I have got some crazy energy!! ![]() I hope I still have it when I get off at 8:00pm. After looking at what I should and should not have on the Southbeach plan and looking at what I've done the 1st 7 days, I 've noiced that I did not do as bad as I thought. I did have slip ups but all in all I did OK. I thought about doing shakes next week but what I'll do is use my same plan for next week and should I not feel hungry during any particular meal then I'll substitute that meal with a shake. Findings: I have been eating TOO MANY pieces of turkey bacon. My limit is 2 slices per day. There have been days when I have almost tripled that. It's written in my plan as such but on the days when I was not really hungry I would eat more bacon. I will have to stick to the plan when it comes to the bacon. In the area of meat I've really only been eating chicken breasts although I have a variety of meats to choose from. I've done well in the cheese area. I've only eaten Mozarella cheese strings and mozarella cheese with the mozarella and tomato salad or when I would buy a salad from the hospital it would have some cheddar cheese garnished on it. Not bad there. I'm allotted 2-3 cups of milk per day including yogurt. The only known milk I've had has been in my capuccino . I have eaten yogurt and it has been fat-free as allowed but I'm only to have the plain yogurt and I will tell the world Tamekia has NOT been eating plain yogurt. More like Strawberry, Peach and Blueberry yogurt. I am going to buy the plain yogurt and sweeten it (as recommended) should I have a taste for yogurt.I've done well in the vegetable area also. I've been eating broccoli, spinach, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, pepprs, scallions and tomatoes. I must resume with the grounded flax seed. I've used it before in my yogurts, salads and soups. Should I use the flax seed, it will be my nuts and seeds serving for the day. On the days that I do not use the grounded flax seed I can snack on the pistachios, cashews or other nuts. The benefits are out of this world in terms of belly fat! I still take the flax seed oil gelcap but I stopped using the grounded flax seed. Seasonings and Spices I love seasonings and spices. I have a cabinet just for spices and seasonings. I just have to make sure what I use does not have added sugar. NO KETCHUP OR COCTAIL SAUCE; not a problem they aren't a must have! When I feel like something sweet I will implement light whipped topping (2TBSP). I presently eat hard sugar free hard candy, gum, popsicles and fudgsicles. I only drink diet, sugar free, decaffeinated drinks although 1-2 servings per day of caffeined drinks are allowed. Substitution is not bad at all. I bought General Foods International Sugar free French Vanilla Cafe (2carbs per serving) as a sustitute for Starbuck's cappucino and it's close (but no cigar). It will definitely do for the goal I want to achieve. I had the sugar free decaffeinated in my hand but bought the sugar free only container. Next time I'll double check. I've pretty much strayed from the things that I'm not supposed to have for the 1st 14 days such as: Liver; I love liver and gravy with onions Chicken wings and legs Turkey meat (dark); I will have to eat only the breast on Turkey Day Honey baked ham; what can I say???; it's only 7 more daysPork rinds ( last serving on the 9th) I miss them, too I have not had (but miss) corn, green peas, any type potatoes and Turkey day will be hard because yams are a no-no the 1st 14 days Breads of any type (croutons included), cereal, oatmeal, rice and pasta are on the no-no list for the 1st 14 days and last but definitely not least I scream, you scream, we all scream for................ Ice Cream!!! Although it's only 7 more days, I think I may do 2 more weeks. I'm not committing yet but I'm thinking real hard about it. |

Hi! Wanted to pop in for a sec to say Hi!
A couple of products that I have found helpful to add in things you like, legally: 1. Heinz low carb ketchup. I have been buying this at Walmart, and sometimes carry a little with me for eating out! 1 carb per serving, no added sugar or corn syrup. About 1.99 a bottle. It sure helps out on a fast food burger, scrambled eggs when you have no meat, and even makes a mean dressing mixed w/mayo and pickles! It has blue on the lable and is usually next to the organic w/the green lable. 2. Dannon "Light and Fit" Carb & Sugar Control yogurt. 3 carbs per serving. Splenda sweetened. Good flavors (strawberry, blueberry, vanilla, peach). If you look at my menus, you'll see I use this ALOT! Not as sweet as what we are used to, but I can't even tell now! Good as dessert too! It comes in a 4 pack, of 4 oz containers, and they have it at all of the grocery stores. Just read the package carefully, it is easy to confuse w/the regular Light & Fit w/sugar. DANNON I know some people think these are both a little "franken-foody", but I swear that having them around keep me from reaching for things MUCH worse! Oh, and I'm sorry you missed bible study, but God understands and I applaud you for staying late to intubate that patient. You do more good than you realize, little girl!

There you go again! You'll never know what your posting does to my motivation level. Thank you for the tips; ESPECIALLY the yogurt tip!! When you mentioned carrying your own items to fast food restaurants, I can relate because being focused has now made me a "carrier". It's a good thing I love large pocketbooks because at any given time I have a snack with me; be it pistachios, mozarella sticks, sugar free gum/candy or sugar free jello. This sways me from my old habits; if I saw it and wanted it, I bought it and ate it.
Hmmmm...I wonder if that will work on clothes and shoes? And as for others considering this being "franken-foody": I'd rather be "franken-foody" than to continue to walk around with my big ole' boody!!!! I don't know where that came from but, nonetheless it's true!!Deb, thanks for the encouraging word pertaining to my choice to stay and intubate versus leaving for Bible Study. That was an "on time Word" with a capital W (not just any word but The Word)!!! |

HEy Tamika.
Ii read that you take med's for migraine's.I started getting migraine's when I was 10 years old.The same year that my periods started. After years of tests and med's I have found my cure(kinda). #1..I see that you drink crystal light. That is the #1 thing that used to trigger my migraine's.The bottled kind did not only the powdered kind.I also got migraines from eating the following foods. Hotdogs(nitrates) Pineapple Red wine. Chinesse food(MSG) Powdered protein drinks. I went to a food allergist and he showed me how to pinpoint which foods where causing my migraines.I also get them from Changes in sleep patterns and changes in the weather. I am CRAZY about finding cures for migraines, they have taken too many good days from me where I have to go home and lay in a dark quiet room. I am CONVINCED that migraines have EVERYTHING to do with processed foods, and our hormone levels. My friend cured his migraines by only eating brown rice(macrobiotic diet). I have low levels of estrogen and my periods have stopped.I have not had a single migraine since my estrogen levels went down.My obgyn tried to give me estrogen pills and the migraines returned,so I stopped taking them. ALSO once women reach menopause their migraines usually stop on their own. O.K prescriptions are expensive and I have taken them all(for migraines) Imitrex was helpful for a while. The VERY BEST thing that worked for me is the herb feverfew. You buy it at whole foods. You can take it daily to prevent migrains but I just take 5 pills at the onset and I am usually pain free in about 30 minutes without all of the "side effects" of the migraines like nausea and sensitivity to light. If your migraines are affecting the quality of your life try going to a allergist or a natural doctor... ![]() |

Beautiful,
Thanks sweetie. I thought I was the only research freak ! I am not a sickly person by no stretch of the imagination but Lord knows I would rather have a baby than to have 1. a toothache and 2. a migraine headache. I've had them (headaches, not babies ) for over 30 years (started at the age of 6). My allergist could find no consumption of foods or ingested chemicals that really triggered them. But he has been successful in pinpointing some things that do trigger them (of course with a hefty price tag). What's funny is the "lack of" triggers mine. Sometimes I feel like I "want" something salty or sweet and should I go a long periods of time with that "feeling"....Look out. Ms. Sassy (migraine) is on the way. My allergist calls it Ms. Sassy. He says only a woman can cause pain like that and make you just want to sit still in a dark room all alone . And as strange as it seems if I satisfy what my body says it needs (salt or sugar) at the ONSET of the headache, I will find relief. If I wait too long, forget it. This is not often that this happens but it does. The other thing that will trigger them is tampons but my physician came to the conclusion that wearing them will tilt me right on over into TSS (toxic shock syndrome). So that's a definite no-no. My mother suffered with migraines and thus..................my daughter and I both were given this precious gift!! We all get them during our menstrual cycle (of course, my mom does not have them anymore) or when we have a lack of sleep. All this week I have been under the influence of BOTH!!! I only have the "visitor" naturally 3 times a year at the most and when I do......................I am miserable. The only medication that works for me is BUPAP. I've tried more than a few and they bring no quick relief. They bring relief, but anyone who suffers from migraines know that when you feel it coming on (and you know the difference between a "headache" and a "migraine") you want relief right then and those other meds has to be taken right then in order for it to BEGIN to work. With BUPAP (only 1 pill needed) I don't necessarily have to take it at the onset and it will work still within minutes. With the others if I don't take it when I feel it coming on (onset).....forget it. I'm going to suffer for more than a few minutes. So I definitely agree that as well as processed foods for some, it is also hormonal. And everything I've listed that triggers mine are all hormonal including the lack of a regular menstrual cycle. I am going to look into herb feverfew so if you have any information you can PM it to me or even post it here if you'd like. Beautiful, you are a smart cookie. Thanks for the information and please pass more on!! |

Man that menu looks GOOD!
I'll eat pretty much anything with pesto or cilantro on it! (Love mixing a bit of pesto w/mayo and spreading on grilled chicken!) KUTGW! I think you owe it to yourself (and your co-workers) to invest in some new scrubs! |

Hey ladies. I missed you all on yesterday but after getting off at 8:00am yesterday morning instead of the oringinally scheduled 8:00pm SUNDAY evening (yes, a 24 hour work schedule), I was zonked. Zonked but wired. I got home and started cooking and cleaning. Working with a skeleton crew this time of year when staff and their children tend to get sick is really getting on my last nerve. Venting session is officially over. Hopefully everyone had a good yesterday.
11/19/2007 when I got off I started cooking dinner, cheese spinach meatloaf. And it turned out very good. B: chocolate cafe protein shake & 2 strips of turkey bacon S: slice of cheese spinach meatloaf L: swiss mocha protein shake S: 17 pepperoni slices (chips; crisped in the oven) Yummy!!! D: cucumber and tomatoes with caesar delight salad dressing (3 sprays) OK, here is where it gets sticky. I made the children and SO broccoli cheese rice to go with their meatloaf. Magdalyn, my daughter, and I went to pick my son up from basketball practice and after that we were to buy some glazed walnuts for SO and we did but then Mag was explaining to me how the Pringle's stacks are tastier than the regular Pringles. So what did I do? I bought a can of Salt & Vinegar Pringles Stacks. Once we got in the truck I asked her to read the nutritional facts and after finding out that 12 chips was a serving she counted out the chips and gave them to me. My son decided that he wanted a thickburger from Hardee's so when I pulled up to order I made his order and my daughter (who should be watching what she eats also because "baby got back" and more than a little "junk in the trunk") decided she wanted an apple pie, make that two and then I ordered SO and his crystal ball (big belly) a hand scooped ice cream (chocolate). Once I got home....I ate the extra pie. So there it goes....The truth. The whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God!!! ![]() 11/20/2007 Dance...ooooh ooooh dance, boogie "ONEDERLAND!!" 198!!! ![]() I am finally out of the valley of two-terville and just past the state line of Onederland. Man, on man! What a journey and my lunch box is empty!!! When I touched the memory button on the scale, I did not see 11/19's weight on there and by right........I did not weigh on yesterday. When I made my shakes on yesterday I realized I was at the bottom of the can so I immediately called my doc and made sure there was a supply there so I could pick up a can TODAY!! Yes, I'm at work but I WILL go purchase my Figure8 during my lunch break TODAY!! I have some whey protein shake powder but when I tried it with my ingredients to "dolly" my shakes up, it was hitting on NOTHING!! With all of this said, today's menu has been altered a tad; only today's menu. The rest of the week will go as planned. Continued meal planning will be the key for my weight loss goal; at least until I have reached a certain weight and have "food matured". So the adjustments for today are as follows: B: 2 boiled eggs & 2 strips of turkey bacon S: 8 cashews L: cheddar-spinach meatloaf and a green salad S: sliced cucumber slices & pepperoni chips D: cinnamon yogurt protein shake S: sugar free jello Hey Meekness, Yep, my journal has started and is well on its way. Thanks for visiting my house of honesty. mstamika, Thanks for coming by. I'm ALWAYS glad to "see" you. Thanks for continuing to encourage me. Yep, I'm making it through the ups and downs, the dos and the don'ts but guess what? I'm making it and ......You will too!!!!! I Just got your message; will holla at you later. Deb, I love the "smokey" taste of cilantro. I think......No, I know you're right. I do deserve a new pair of scrubs and it does not make any difference that I'm always buying a "piece" of a scrub pair. How often you ask? . too often. This is why I forget about the scrubs that were too tight for me until I go to the back of the closet (newer scrubs up front). I will tell you this, not only do I deserve (another word for want) a new pair of scrubs I believe I should have a new pair of danskos also and I'll name them WO. My new WOs (Weight off shoes). Lulu Belle, Hot little bod!! I'll take that!! Thanks girlie. |
