What a fun Journal this is. Back in the day I played rugby, and I think if roller derby had been around I would have done that...I'm feeling old at the moment b/c I just realized I'm 38 and I played prop for our college team 20 years ago! Cripes.

Is 38 too old to skate? Will I break a hip?

Also--Baindegael--I lost 50 lbs in 2002-2003 doing LC and then over the last 4 years have gained it back since quitting smoking. Wobbled, then gained, then lost, wobbled, gained....long story short all the weight is back. Quitting smoking really changes your metabolism! It isn't just that food suddenly tastes fantastic, it's that suddenly you no longer have this lovely psychostimulant coursing thru your veins to rev up the metabolism. Sigh.

I still dream about smoking. I allow myself a couple of smoke-fests a year when I'm w/friends. I still have a hard time consuming alcohol past 1-2 drinks without hitting people up for OPCs! I'm sure if I got all hard-core and never allowed myself a smoke I'd have an easier time of it, but the only way I can stay smoke-free 358 days out of the year is if I allow myself the occasional puff. Sigh. It's tough.

More power to you, though! I have a couple of suggestions....drink lots of water...cut down on red meat if you haven't already b/c it binds w/nicotine and makes withdrawal more painful. Try sunflower seeds in the shell--substance in there mimics nicotinic effects in the body. If you're a menthol smoker (like me! no, wait, I'm a non-smoker, right?), get some sugar-free mints or gum to mimic that awesome cool mouth-feeling.

Ok, enough from me! I wish you the best.

Oh, and p.s. my avatar pic is about 30 lbs ago, around 235.

well... not a lot has been going on... no more weight loss, I'm eating well. Not working out as much as I should... and I work. A LOT. I usually come home and eat and crash and get up to do it all over again.... I did however have the day off and worked on a few Stinky pics. Aiden is well, he's in jiu jitsu again and loving it and has lost a few pounds, I'm really proud of him!

I had to share. I made eggplant lasagna and it was sooo good. I sliced the eggplant into rounds, put a little olive oil on them and grilled them on the grill outside. When they were done, I used them as the noodles for a lasagna. (And then I made a regular lasagna for everyone else). I was surprised at how good it was!

That's not a dumb question at all! It is just a preferential thing, I leave it on bc I'm lazy. And I used a no sugar added sauce from Hunt's, but I used the ricotta and the sauce very sparingly bc eggplant can get mushy. I had the leftovers today, and it was even better.

I'm back, it's been a long time since I've written anything here!!

So. I quit smoking 09/01/2008. to prevent any weight gain, I've started to exercise and I'm inducting. I'm not weighing though. It messes with my head so for at least 6 weeks, I'm going by measurements only. So far, so good. In the last week, I've lost 2 inches off of my hips and an inch off of my arms and 2 inches off of my chest (I"m bigger in the chest, so I don't really worry about losing there.... if only it would go from my double chin!).

I've been working out in the am (5) and tomorrow starts a new circuit.

Going strong still. I did weigh, and as I suspected, I wasn't happy with the number that I saw. It totally deflated me and I still worked out, but not with the same amount of vigor. So, no more. No more to the scale. I'm busting butt everyday, eating lots of veggies and protein, lots of activity... well, maybe not a lot, but a lot more than I ever have in my life.

I'm down a jeans size! I was an 18, I'm a 16. I wore an XL shirt, I'm now down to L. I'm a little larger on the bottom.... well, a lot larger. When people say that J-Lo or Beyonce have a large rear, I chuckle. They have no clue... and in fact, I'm losing strangley back there.... it's going down, almost like squeezing a tube of toothpaste....

Wow. Long time no posty for me!

What's going on? Well. I went to the WL doc starting May 8th... yes that WL doc. The one that gives the B12 shots in the rump. And the pills. Best decision that I've ever made.

Why? Well, because the diet that they put me on is LC and LF. I had been considering switching to that for some time but didn't know where to start. I got a book and I've been given portion sizes. Now that I'm measuring, I can see, plain as day and I couldn't before, that I had NO clue on portion sizes. Want a burger no bun? Sure! Give me 3!

I thought about this for a long time prior to going. I saw at work that a lot of people went, lost weight quickly, looked awesome for a week and then gained it all back. I also noticed that these same folks are eating potato chips, fries, chicken strips from the cafeteria at work. I've not eaten that stuff since 2003, so I'm confident that I can keep it off.

I'm awful at taking the pills. Terrible. I forget most of the time and I have various full bottles, so I know that the pills aren't helping me. I am taking the vitamins, the same ones that Dr. A recommends for the most part. I don't know that I feel better with the shot... not a clue.

What I can say is that since July 6th, 2006, I haven't been able to get below 213 for any length of time and I am currently weigh 207 (weird, I looked at the clock right now and it says 2:07).

I've picked up a new habit. Jogging. Who knew?! I mean, I am the worst athlete. When I was a kid, I didn't do sports. I had two left feet at everything. Here is a confession only May knows, when I was about 10 or 11, I had to have "Special Physical Education" because I was so lousy at running and jumping and flipping like the other kids. They had a special gym teacher work with me because I was soooo terrible. Shameful.

And now, 24 years later, I can jog 2.5 miles. And I'm building that up, that's not where it will end! I have goals. My first goal was to be able to job 25 mins straight (not worrying about distance yet) at 4 MPH. I got there about 2 weeks ago. Now that I'm there, the next goal is to be able to run 25 mins at 4.3 MPH and then build from there to 5 MPH.

It's fun! I was getting to a point where I dreaded jogging. I would put on the music and then cover the timer with a towel, but now I have started to change things around. Do 4 mins at this speed, 3 mins at this speed and so forth. It's totally helped with the boredom. I've even moved the treadmill around to face the TV so that I'm not bored with the music (I'm getting bored with the music).

I picked up the Body for Life book for the exercise and found the site. I'm going to do the 18 week challenge. I lift weights too, although the WL doc says that I shouldn't do more than 3 lbs. I am doing more, which could contribute to the fact that I am losing slower than other patients, but I want to keep this GD weight off for good and I want to look as toned as I possibly can.

Until Thursday I'm protein only; my last weigh in I was retaining water, maybe too much sodium? Not sure, but I'm doing the protein only for 3 days and then, I can add my beloved raw spinach back in.

Upper body weights done! And my arms are shaking like a leaf...

Going to peruse the internet and then get zee child up for camp. Lunch will be easy to pack since I'm on protein only for 2 more days.

I ran this morinng, more intensely than I have in the past. But my heart wasn't in it. Last night with Aiden's therapist was pretty devastating to me... so I am not going to beat myself up. I am going to keep going on auto pilot for the next few days so that I don't quit.
