You had me laughing and cringing at the same time about Momma Betty! She does sound like a scamp, and I love nothing more than a sweet but ornery older person. But I worry about all that sugar! As I know you do!

I agree with you. Why would you want to limit any time spent with her at this point in her life. You love her, and she enjoys the visiting and attention. Enjoy every second you can with her - she won't be here forever, and honestly, none of us know what our future is. You sound so loving and caring!

You're going to be in Onederland SOON! I can't wait to celebrate it with you!

Thank you Carol - that was such a sweet thing to say. Some of Pup's sisters think me a huge pain in the rear, but that's okay. I have opinions! And I'm with you and Monica - she won't be here forever and let's enjoy her scampiness! lolol

Carol - I look at your journey/stats all the time and I am constantly inspired. I am anxious to join you in Onederland!

I don't know how tomorrow morning will be, but tonight I cracked into 1.0 on the ketone meter. I rubbed my eyes to make certain I read it right!

Good job, good job - I ran out of sticks so tomorrow will be scale only (maybe Wednesday), but I hope to have them here by Wednesday pm for Thursday. I think am doing pretty good, but feeling really bloated from dinner. Nothing a few large glasses of water won't cure!

Do you have an innate stubbornness that is carrying over to that darn ketone meter?

Well, let me toss an idea to you (like tossing a bone ) - maybe consider a fat fast to see how dramatically your body ketones add up.

But, most important, you are still losing - which is good.

I'm sorry your reading isn't what you were hoping. But sticking with it is the only option with LC or NK, isn't it? No little cheats allowed if you want the holy grail of ketosis. You can do it!

You are so right Carol. I'm going to have to figure out what it is that is keeping me out. I think I might try a fat fast for a bit. I did one day last week, but maybe I need longer.

It has been one week and two days since I've been entirely compliant so maybe I just haven't reached that level just yet!

Well, there you go! Or there I go! Uniformed and impatient. This is what I get for the vacation derailment.

That's comforting to tell the truth. I will take a chill-pill.

What?

Heh!

Today's keto meter reading is .6

Really? Now I have a question for Sbarr if she wanders in here: I had absent-mindedly taken a sip of my morning coffee that contains stevia and HWC. Could that have skewed my reading that quickly? It had only been a minute or so.

Oh the science here! lol

I was a bit shocked to see that reading no matter the sip of coffee or not. Yesterday was a huge fail regarding a fat fast. Life yes?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had a Momma Betty confab last evening with a few of the siblings.
Again - rambling thoughts coming up - feel free to scroll . . .
Momma Betty is not my momma. She is not what you'd call a warm and fuzzy-type person. She's more introverted and Pup's family are not what you'd call good communicators. My family is nothing but communicators. To a fault. We will beat a horse good and dead. Always.
Pup's family don't really talk TO each other, but rather talk sorta at each other. It's hard to explain.
For instance, when I met his family at a Memorial day bbq after we had been dating a couple of months, NO ONE said ONE word to me. No one asked me any questions. No one looked at me. It was the weirdest thing. They talked kinda around me. I would be mentioned in passing, "Oh I met her last week - Pup brought her over for a minute - so I met her first." Stuff like that. I even went in the bathroom to call my bff to say WTheck??
Except for Pup's daddy - who passed about a year later. He was the warmest, friendliest guy.
Anyway, this is just their family dynamic. I'm a bit used to it now. Kinda.
Cut to last evening. Momma Betty went to emergency with Pup and Pup's sister. This is the 4th time is about 3 weeks. Nothing wrong with her just like all the last times. Except for dehydration, elevated blood sugar, etc.
So, Sister decides to have a meeting at Momma Betty's apartment. Only the three sibs that are involved with Momma came to the meeting. And me. And a brother-in-law. To be fair, of the 8 sibs, two live out of state. So three refuse to be involved. Hey, what can you do? I believe we shouldn't tilt at windmills or however that saying goes.
Supposedly the meeting was to talk to Momma about her eating and hydration. It turned into typical family yapping AROUND her, not TO her. I watched her simply shut down after a while. There was lots of useless talking about sidebar issues; I wanted to wring everyone's neck.
I stayed in the kitchen area, but could hear and see everyone. Super tiny apartment. So I did dishes and pulled Pup aside to ask, "Why are we so off track??" He's the second youngest and the oldest daughter was running the show as she always does so, again, family dynamics. Pup simply isn't too used to having a voice in this stuff.
But I was so proud when he vetoed a crazy idea the Sister had (some complicated stuff I won't even go into). Seriously PROUD! He is just mad and concerned enough to not let her run ragged over everyone else.
. . . and . . . even though I had promised myself to keep my yap shut, I didn't and voiced my opinion. They all looked at me like I had two heads. That's okay. My opinion was simply to try to not be mad at Momma. That she is, after all, 84 and can't we have a little compassion? That she isn't being calculating or strategic in all of this. Oye vey
I really am a PITA. I don't care. I loves me some Momma Betty.
Here is a small example of the damage the older Sister can do: she decided that Momma needs an anti-anxiety med and pushed the doc HARD. Grr. So Momma is on that. Why?? And she decided on her own to mess with a laxative medication the doc has prescribed. She upped the dosage on her own. Seriously?? So poor Momma had an episode when we were at her apartment. Humiliating. I want to punch someone I swear.
The Sister #2 stood outside the bathroom while Momma is in there asking over and over, "Are you okay? Are you coming out?" Please! A moment of privacy please people! Sheesh and grr.
So Pup and I are going to continue with our plan. Help her help her help her. Stop in and have breakfast with her. Involve her with more family stuff we do. Begin going to church. We'll see how it goes.
If you actually read any of that - thank you! Writing all my thoughts down always helps me see things in a better light.
Smooches to all my LCF's.
That blood reading is ALL YOURS - coffee and a bit of HWC won't change your ketone levels immediately, I don't think anything will.
Mine was 0.6 also, this morning!
Wow, what a scenario with that poor Momma Betty....poor lady! Stay sane, continue with your good stuff with her! Gosh, if I were that poor woman being harassed through the door of the bathroom - I would probably have yelled: STFU, give me a moment of peace.
Thanks for sharing - you're sort of like my new Dave Barry for the mornings!
FAMILY = DRAMA, plain and simple!
I pray that as my parents age, my sister and I handle things better. I know when my Grandmother's were aging, my Dad's Mom...was handled with him and his brother and sister and it was a MESS! With my Mom's Mom, she, being the only daughter, pretty much handled it. Her brothers did as she thought was best.
I love that you/Pup are showing her empathy and respect. Anxiety meds??? REALLY??? I think you are doing great. KEEP IT UP!
Poor Momma Betty. I don't get the anxiety meds either. Is that just to get her to be less assertive about she wants, and more compliant with what sis wants? Awful. You guys are doing the right thing. Can't control anyone else.
Wow. Families can be crazy.
You and Pup are very kind, giving and nurturing people. I'm glad Momma Betty has you two, because older sis sounds like a piece of work.
And congrats on not strangling anyone. I'm not sure I would have had the ability to hold back.
You guys are all so sweet! I was glad to see the agreement from y'all. When I get looked at like I'm crazy I start to believe I'm crazy! We hung out with her yesterday morning, made her breakfast, and brought her a new coffee pot. We wore her out with a little walk around the place. She couldn't wait to get back to her chair. Ha!
Memorial Day Weekend!
We're having a small gathering here at our house. Just Momma Betty, my daughter Bella along with Spud, maybe crazy SIL #2 and her son. If she shows up. My money is she won't. It's hard to get her out of the house lately. I'm not going to go into her craziness because you guys would say I'm making stuff up!
201
.01 ketone reading (that's me - chillin')
Yesterday's Stats
1149 calories
Macros
5% carbs
79% fat
16% protein
Ya. I'm chillin' like a villain.
