Peeking in to visit you Daisy! Wow, you have been journaling here for a long time - I'm impressed! I read the first page (50 posts) and the last. I'll never be able to catch up with the rest, but how cool to have such a long record of your journey!

I've been taking DE regularly for several months and I think my skin is clearer, but the big difference I have is that I have much less hair falling out. I was getting a big handful every morning, and now just a tiny little bit.

Do I understand correctly that you are lifting heavy? I'm so interested in hearing women's experiences with that.

Have a great day!

We are accounting and tax professionals. That's directly from my biz card. Yes, we have clients we do monthly accounting for and now that things are settling down I'm getting back into my marketing mode. I need to get us more monthly clients. I need to earn my keep! lol

What type of accounting do you guys do?

Oh don't read the whole thing! I've been yapping for years! I'm really not that interesting! lol

All of the things that can happen because of this DE is very exciting.

I lift at the club, but I wouldn't call it heavy. I was checking out the app you were talking about. It sounds interesting!

Me I manage a conglomerate of businesses. I do the accounting/payroll/basically everything except for the annual IRS taxes. So my stuff goes on all year long.

How is everything going? How's that grandbaby?

Monica - Pup is training me on payroll. I've been doing the payroll for a few clients the past couple of months. A strain for this right-brained individual! lol

You guys sound like us, but much bigger. We're tiny. Pup is face-to-face with many clients all the time.

baby is fantastic! Bella (DD1) said I can give him some avocado today!

Focus

. . . I struggle with it . . .

I'm not in ketosis just yet. Every day my morning reading is .1 or .2

203 - weight
.1 - ketone reading

Yesterday's Stats
1213 calories
19 carbs
99 fat
48 protein

Macros
7% carbs
77% fat
16% protein

Yesterday I was too low on fat and too high on protein. I went to Trader Joe's and picked up some chicken salad that I had heard praised on another keto site. Meh! I like mine much better. Lesson: cook girl!

I'm just out of the habit of cooking and maybe getting lazy about it? I used to LOVE cooking. I remember the very first time I went low carb back in 2002 my two girls loved it so because I was making crazy stuff all the time and they got to benefit.

I was always cooking like that back in those days - trying recipes on the family because my Wasband would eat literally anything and if the recipe was good, it was added to the family bank.

I loves my Pup, but last night I made him a bologna sandwich on white bread with butter and he was happy as hell. Yuck! Not to be selfish, but I need to cook for me and just not worry about him. He's a big boy and will figure out what he wants. Is that selfish?

Okay - I'm going to shoot for 85 fat 12 protein and 3 carbs today. 1200 calories.

Ready - set - go!

I love to cook too, but when I was in a VERY stressful job situation, I wanted no part of it. I guess I just didn't have any energy - physical or mental - left for much else. If you can make it better, and you don't mind doing it, then enjoy your own cooking!

So you have the blood ketone testing thingy? I'm so curious about those. Not that I'm doing LC at the moment, but when I have I've really wondered about it. How expensive are they and the strips?

You were asking about good protein bars. Here's another. I just buy it at Kroger here in town. They are typically $1 each.

The meter itself wasn't very expensive, but the strips are. On the recommendation of a fellow LCF's peep I bought the strips for about $2 each.

So far I am not in ketosis though.

I bought Pure Protein bars just yesterday to try and I wasn't a fan. Maybe it was the flavor I picked out? They tasted kinda chalky. I'm going to try the Quest bars next. The problem will be that Momma Betty won't like the taste and then won't eat them. She eats so many sweets that she has skewed tastes a bit. It's a problem. I just don't know what we are going to do.

Sbarr gave me the recipe for a Chai tea that I am rather addicted to at the moment. I had one midmorning yesterday and another one at bedtime. I magic-bullet Chai cocoa tea with HWC, liquid Stevia (no carbs), MTC (only because I have a bottle I bought when I first discovered bulletproof coffee), and a large scoop of coconut oil.

It froths lovely and it is delicious. And full of fat. Did I say delicious? I had that for breakfast along with the regular coffee I have when I first get up. Lunch was baby carrots left over from Mother's Day dipped in Manzetti's dressing along with a few cubes of cream cheese shaken in a bag of sugar-free Jello powder. A great, quick fat bomb if you will.

Supper was 3 hardboiled eggs mushed with mayo and some tapenade I got at Trader Joe's on a recommendation. It's good, but I won't get again. Why do I think I couldn't chop up my own olives? Heh!

A fat filled day! Not really planned as a fat fast day, but I'll take it.

Ketosis, please don't ignore me!

Oh and I dropped that crappy pound. Oh yes!

Phew - I just caught up with everything. I seem to have lost my subscription which notified me when there were new posts. Was getting ready to send out a search party. Of course, I didn't have the common sense to check the thread - I was waiting for the new post notification.

Jamaica sounds wonderful - I remember what it was like getting hit up on the beach. I got my hair done right away, bought some cheap jewelry and then then left me alone for the rest of the week. That was a fun trip - oh so long ago!

Re: low blood ketone readings. I know it's a waste of a strip, but if you're finding that your morning levels are really low, you might want to try an afternoon reading to see if the ketone level goes up, which it should. Morning is usually the lowest so it might be nice to know what you CAN get to. My morning used to be higher a month ago, but now it's hovering around 0.6 - 0.8, but later in the day, can go as high as 2.4 and up.

Have a great weekend!

Here's the good news for yesterday's stats - the macros are spot on with my goal macros. That is just crazy! Totally appeals to the control freak in me.

Here's the bad news. I gained that pound back and look at that ketosis level. Oh the sadness.

I took Sbarr's advice and did an evening reading just before bed, but before my evening tea. I got an .06. I was eager to take it this morning! And .01. Crapski.

In for a penny in for a pound. Damn that pound. That vacation messed with me more than I realized. I've been compliant with ketoing only since Monday last week. Since returning. This has set me back is my thought.

Too bad! I'm on it now. In fact yesterday I was SO cognizant of eating too much protein I only had a 4 oz delicious Julia Child Biftek Haché ą la Lyonnaise which is mainly butter and egg added to good ground chuck. I bought my ground beef at Trader Joe's and wow - last night's burger was even delicious enough for Pup to mention it. Seasoned with only cracked pepper and cracked sea salt. We grilled.

I had to leave out the onions because, because, well, Pup won't eat onions. Oh sad face here.

But that bunless burger dolloped with mayo was the highlight of my day.

I finally added my evening tea to my daily stats. Why did I think the evening tea didn't count? doofus

I did have a LOT of HWC yesterday.

Okay - enough analyzing. Ketosis can't ignore me forever.

But, you know that your ketones rise over the 0.5 minimum for ketosis - that should be reassuring!

WTH?? I have NO explanation. I don't care for the explanation. Obviously yesterday's pound was water/my imagination or whatever! And another tagged along.

No matter. We had a very weird day yesterday. We were running around town erranding and in the afternoon during a break in the backyard my husband was eating a treat I decided to enjoy a few of his potato chips dipped in sour cream. Lovely! A choice. We had a fantastic breakfast of buttery scrambled eggs. And for dinner we had Pup's niece and Momma over for PIZZA, baseball watching, and outside for a bonfire. I ate the toppings off of 4 little squares. The place the pizza was purchased from cuts it on the square. Tons of tiny squares. I fed the crust that was left to my dog George so I wouldn't throw caution to the winds and eat them.

So not a very planful day, but something shifted? Again, who cares? I am not going to overanalyze.

We were at the Home Depot two times yesterday! I got in over 10,000 steps just walking around that horrible place. I'm joking - it's not horrible. I haven't bought any flowers just yet because it is still dipping into the 30s around here at night. But soon!

How's everyone's Sunday?

Oh and Sandra? I totally was dying to take my readings last night after pizza-supper, but couldn't get away from the company. I am so curious what it might have been since this morning I am at .3.

.3 feels like a victory!

Wooo hoooo - 0.3! If you were 0.3 this morning, you would have been higher last night - I doubt a few pizza toppings would break the bank - I wish I knew what the magic number was, what the level should be. I've read 0.5 to 3.0 as ideal range - but, I'm still trying to get my little brain around whether it's better to have more ketones or not - if the carbs are super low, maybe the body is just efficient and doesn't need as many ketones. We have such a "bigger is better" mentality, that I'm assuming higher is better, but... not sure I guess as long as the scale keeps moving!

I'm holding the door for 199 for you - it's a real mental shift. For the past few weeks, I still put the weight at 20X, instead of 19X.

Back up that pound. I'm not fretting it. Even though my ketone levels are lower again this morning.

I have not smelled that weird smell when I pee either. It's just taking some time to get there. It is one week only today that I've been compliant since my vacation. What a derail!

That's okay. I'm on the path.

It was tough to stay in my macro range this weekend. Lots of family and eating out so much! But it was a fun weekend.

Plan for today is fat fat fat. A fat day. I do want to make that meter reading SING!

Update on the DE - still taking it. Way too early still to know if it's doing anything. My husband thinks I've jumped into the dark side. He knows how nutty I am.

~~~~~~~~~~
Update on Momma Betty re: eating - My niece and I found a meal replacement shake Boost. Low sugar, lowish carbs, good protein. And rather tasty. The trick will be to get her to eat it.
I'm going to let some thoughts out here only because no one in my family knows anything about this journal or my writing it:
Momma Betty is 84. She just might be reaching out to any of us with all of this drama because she wants attention. Pup and I see her once or twice a week. Pup has seven brothers and sisters and some see her weekly and some see her never. That's just the way it is.
One sister that does a lot, but acts the martyr about it, and I had a talk because I feel if Momma Betty wants attention why not give it? My own momma died when she was only 68 so I see their momma being here only as a blessing.
Pup and I want to start stopping in to see her in the morning a few times a week. I can do it on Tuesdays and Wednesdays before I go to the office. Pup can do it on Fridays. We thought we could just stop in and see if she's taken her meds, scramble her a quick egg, visit a bit, walk her down to the common area. Just hang with her for a half hour or so.
This sister thinks is a great mistake. She says if Momma starts depending on us she'll never do any of this on her own. I say who the hell cares?
Pup and I are going to do what we want. Starting tomorrow morning. I'd go every day, but I watch my Spud Mon, Thurs, Fri.
Funny side note - yesterday we discovered what might be the key factor to Momma Betty's always feeling so crappy of late. We discovered that she has been drinking a large glass of orange juice with SUGAR in it when she gets up. Oye vey! Her blood sugar must shoot up with that and make her feel horrible. Somehow she has it in her head that her doctor told her to do this.
At least that's what I thought . . .
At dinner last night with the whole family, the afore mentioned sister was scolding Momma Betty about the sugar/oj and Momma Betty turned to me and winked. I laughed out loud! That little scamp.
I'm giving her all the attention she deserves.
OH Girl, that is a funny story! Why not try to spend more time with momma Betty?? I don't know why that Sister would care. Maybe the poor lady is lonely? At her age, more friends are dead then alive. I say do it! Spend the time and love every minute of it. Make the woman feel like the QUEEN she is! SHe has earned it in her long life!
You can always eat asparagus if you want stinky pee!
For the DE: I've long been the crazy one trying things, so this fit right up my alley.
Families are such adventures!
That is a fantastic idea! I'll trick my body into thinking it's in ketosis! One way or another I'm getting there!
