Could swore I posted that one last night? <scratching head>
Woke up with killer headache. Now - if I put my Twyla hat on; what could all of this be telling me? The headache, the crabbiness (it's really bad!). Frankly - when I look at my totals from the past couple of days I see my protein is way low. I'll up that today. Balance it out with the rest of my macros. |

Tues, Apr 7
9:00 a.m. Just made a protein shake. 1 egg 1 oz half and half 2 oz cold coffee 1 scoop whey protein powder 6 ice cubes Whipped it up in my Bullet. The ice even crushed. It was kinda good. I’m going to see if that’s a good thing to have before going to the gym. That’s where I’m headed now. Will check in later. 1:16 p.m. My workout was fantastic! But get this: as I was looking for a place to park I nearly drove back home! I tell you; the little voice in my head is really getting on my nerves. The parking lot was very crowded and it INTIMATED ME! Good grief. I went in and cornered a counter-dude about when I’m going to get a call to set up my training session. He took my number and promises to pass it on. Yay. Hit the incumbent bike. Did 25 minutes at a level three and steady pace. I think I did over 10 miles, but I forget right now. Kept the heart rate up. I was only going to do 20, but kept going. Then I did: 3x12x30 triceps 3x12x10 bicep curl 3x12x30 chest press 3x12x15 inclined press and I forget the last one I did, some sort of press for triceps and shoulders 3x8x20 Then I walked a lap to cool down. Tuesday mornings at the gym are interesting. I’m guessing this is the crowd I will see all the time on the weekday mornings. Older crowd. I was pretty much the young ‘un on the floor except for one guy my age or a bit younger that made a point of finding me several times to tell me to have a nice day. I must be the new young ‘un meat! Me! Ha! Made me feel good in a weird way yes? Hey! Just goes to show you, I must have a little something left. It was nice to feel cute again. I've felt so not cute of late. I feel so good! I will post stats later.

If DD2 does not get the SF job she is waiting to hear about, I'm flying out at the beginning of May to drive back with her to Minnesota. We are already planning our road trip and how we will eat healthy and use the hotel gyms on the road. She is going to join the gym when she is living with us and we can go together in the mornings.
I'm planning on us picking up picnic-type foods we can take in a cooler so we don't have to stop all the time for dinners. Get some easy and healthy stuff to nosh on. She doesn't necessarily embrace the low carb life, but always enjoys what I eat and knows carbs aren't all that good. I hope she gets the job in SF, but I can't lie; it would be so great to have her back home. Last edited by DaisyGG; 04-07-2009 at 12:44 PM.. |

I've read repeatedly in past months the health benefits of Vitamin D (article below), but most importantly for me is its effect on my moods. I find, esp since I've gotten older, that sunlight really does have a bearing on my moods. The article explains why. Plus there are other benefits to getting our D. The best, most preferred way, of course, is good ol' fashioned sunshine! Bring it on! Enuf with winter already! Vitamin D and depression Another area of vitamin D research is its relationship to depression. Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, is a situational mood disorder brought on by decreasing daylight in the winter months. High doses of vitamin D during these months have proven to be a very effective natural remedy for SAD, leading most practitioners to believe that normal neurotransmitter function depends in part on adequate vitamin D synthesis. Vitamin D levels are inversely related to those of melatonin, another mood-regulating hormone. Melatonin helps modulate your circadian rhythms, with darkness triggering melatonin secretion by the pineal gland within your brain, bringing you down gently at night for sleep. Insomnia, mood swings and food cravings are influenced by melatonin. Sunlight shuts melatonin production off, while triggering release of vitamin D — that’s why doctors recommend getting outdoors as a remedy for jet lag. Most of us can sense the positive influence of sunlight in our own lives by the immediate lift we get from taking a walk outdoors on a beautiful sunny day. Now there may be many factors at work that brighten our mood in such cases, but sun exposure is almost certainly a critical piece. Soaking in the warmth of the sun is one of the most relaxing activities we share with all living creatures — just watch a cat dozing in a beam of sunligh Here's the link to the entire article: Preventing vitamin D deficiency — the new breakthrough in women’s health?

Hi Daisy,
Glad you didn't turn around in the parking lot. Looks like a good workout, wonder if you'll be sore tomorrow? I'm really interested in all this Vit D talk as I was told to start taking it by a doctor. |

Oh I totally agree with that! I am sick sick of winter. I totally know I am effected by sun/no sun. My crabbiness of late has maybe been from that although yesterday it was sunny. Mine is probably combos of stuff. What I didn't know is we can take the D as a supplement. That's good news since there will be no reclining in the sun for a few weeks. Here anyway. I need a list of the things I've read about on this board and decide which ones to take. So many supplements! |

Just read the article. So many of the symptoms in that list correspond with D deficiency. And they correspond with other things too. My age, hormones, adrenals.
D does seem like the new black in nutrition-world. Time to try? |

Supplements should definitely be considered, IMO.
But my butt is in the sun every chance I get, cold & windy, no matter. I crave the sun. I can almost feel its warmth and power sucking the blues/gloom/doom right of me. ![]() |

Sweet Daisy,
I was sure I posted here yesterday...??? Yes, yes, yes!! Vitamin D deficiency sounds about right. My DH has Crohn's disease and has had 2 collectomies. His intenstines don't absorb vitamins and minerals well since there isn't much of the intestines left! Anyhow...B vitamins and D are big concerns for his well being both physically and emotionally. Great job exercising! Wow! How are your knees? Hugs honey ![]() |

I know most headaches are the result of not enough water. I need to pay attention to getting more.
The grocery store had SmartWater on sale. Those bottles are ginormous! I picked up a few. Seriously huge. |

I drink 32 oz by the time I get to work....... then I have 32 from 7:30 til noon..... and well...from noon til 4:30... I will do another 32.... then with dinner...and cooking....and drinkin before dinner for the "fuller feeling" I will poish off 32 oz between 5 and 9 pm.... so there ya go ... a gallon... hahaa... |

Hi there Daisy,
Could be you need more water. Are you a big coffee drinker and have you cut down in the last few days? I had a laugh about the smoker on the machine next to you. Maybe all the cardio counteracts the cigs?? When I lived in Japan, there was a smoking area at the gym I went to ![]() |

Went to the gym this morning around 9:00. Forgot to eat breakfast! <hitting head> WTH?? Luckily I had had coffee. I just wanted to go to do cardio on the incline bike. Got in 30 minutes. Tried to read the newspaper, but I can tell you cannot concentrate on your workout if you’re reading. I won’t try that again. It’s fun just sitting there people watching so that’s what I did. When I got home I was starving! I made a 2-egg scramble with cheese, half and half, salsa and put it on a spinach tortilla with a dollop of sour cream. Had six mini-links on the side and I was super-craving OJ so I had 6 oz of that. Breakfast came to 691 calories!! Holy crapinoli. I weighed myself this morning. Nothing lost. Same same same. I can deal with that. It probably isn’t a good idea to weigh twice a week. I should do it once a week. I remember reading, and have probably mentioned this before, that while losing weight you should weigh no more than once a week. When you are in maintenance you should weigh every day to catch anything immediately and nip it in the bud. Or butt as my case might be. Again – dinner was a bust. Wound up having wasa crackers and French onion dip. ☹ I need to plan dinners much better. I’ll like it when Pupcake is done with tax season and is home for dinner. I miss him at night and don’t eat proper suppers.
